“Retail Evil: A Resident Evil Story” (Fanfic)
Note: My friend, @yourgentlegirlfriend, is the queen of writing Leon in a hot and delightful manner and I certainly will not compete with that. 🤣 Instead, I want to throw our good man into a world even crazier than post-apocalyptic Raccoon City: the world of retail. In this unusual story, we follow Leon through a typical day in the life of the average retail worker. Enjoy this wacky concept and let me know if you want more! 😂🙏🏽
This is not how I imagined my first day…
Rush hour was well underway. Customers poured through the door trying to get hands on anything on sale that day. It never mattered if they had practical uses for it; to them, if it was cheap, they may as well buy it.
Leon had been with the company for about a week, but today was his first real day on the floor after going through orientation and computer training. He quickly paced to an available register and logged on to the sales program.
“I can assist the next guest!” Leon exclaimed as he gestured someone from the crowd to walk to his register.
An older man with a basket containing only a few items approached Leon and placed it next to the register. Using what he learned from the training videos, the rookie cashier began taking items out one by one, scanning each barcode with the scan gun. Though he still lacked experience, Leon was getting through the basket at a decent pace. With one more item to go, he faced the barcode to his vision and pulled the trigger on the scan gun.
Item not found.
“Uh, sorry, give me just a sec,” Leon nervously spoke as he cleared the error off the screen and scanned the item again.
Item not found.
Leon felt a warmth forming in his face. The sales program could not recognize the barcode being scanned. The customer began to look perplexed.
“Is there a problem?” The customer asked curiously.
“It’s saying that it can’t find the item,” Leon answered.
“Ah, so I guess that means it’s free, right?” The customer chuckled and a satisfied grin stretched across his face.
Leon laughed, but he secretly found it unfunny.
This is bad, Leon thought. It’s getting more and more backed up!
“Is something wrong?” A familiar voice appeared behind him.
Leon darted his attention to the voice. Ada, his coworker and assigned trainer, was behind him and looking at the computer screen.
“Yeah, I can’t get the item to scan,” Leon answered, his voice covered in defeat and embarrassment.
Ada grabbed the scan gun and scanned the barcode.
The item appeared on the screen.
Leon was stunned.
“Alright, sir, was that everything for your purchase?” Ada asked the customer in a nurturing tone.
“That’ll do it, ma’am,” the customer responded as he inserted his bank card into the card reader.
How did she get it to work?! God, I feel so stupid!
Leon snapped back into reality as the sound of paper ejecting from the receipt printer entered his ears. Ada pulled the receipt from the machine and handed it to the customer.
“Here’s your receipt, sir,” Ada said. Thank you for shopping with us and enjoy the rest of your day!”
“You, too!” The customer waved goodbye and left through the exit of the store.
Too embarrassed to look at her directly, Leon scratched the back of his head and kept his focus on the computer screen.
“H-how did you…” Leon muttered.
“You were accidentally scanning the QR code next to the barcode,” Ada answered as she playfully rubbed her hand on Leon’s shoulder to console him. “Not your fault, it’s a bit of a dick move on the manufacturer for doing that.”
Leon felt a bit at ease to know that he wasn’t completely responsible for the hassle he caused, though he still felt ashamed for not figuring it out sooner.
“Let me know if you need anything, okay, Leon?” Ada requested as she walked away from the register.
“Got it, thank you!” Leon replied, still feeling as though he had egg on his face for letting such an error get the better of him. Still, given that it was his first day on the floor, he reminded himself that he was still a novice. Experience could only be obtained with repetition and learning.
No matter the challenge, Leon was ready to become a better employee.

The Ultimate Guide to POS Systems: Streamlining Operations for Theme Parks, Retail, Delis, Spas, and Fuel Stations
Have you ever stopped to wonder what keeps a bustling theme park, deli, or spa running like clockwork? Behind the scenes, businesses of all kinds rely on a key piece of technology – POS (Point of Sale) systems. From quick transactions to real-time inventory management, these systems are the unsung heroes. Today, we’ll dive into the ins and outs of Theme Parks POS systems, Deli POS systems, Spa POS systems, and Fuel POS systems. Plus, we’ll answer a burning question for retail businesses: how much does a retail POS system cost?
If you’re considering upgrading or implementing a POS system, this guide will help you choose the right one for your business.
What Exactly is a POS System?
First off, let’s clarify what we’re talking about. A POS system is essentially the hub where all your sales, transactions, and inventory management come together. It’s the combination of hardware (like a cash register or tablet) and software that helps businesses process sales, track stock, manage customer data, and even run reports to improve operations.
Whether you're running a high-traffic theme park or a small deli, your POS system keeps everything running smoothly.
Theme Parks POS Systems: Creating Magical Experiences
Imagine it’s a busy day at your theme park. Families are lining up for food, buying souvenirs, and eagerly waiting to get on the next ride. Handling such high volumes of transactions is no easy task. That’s where a Theme Parks POS system steps in.
Why Theme Parks Need a POS System
A theme park is a vast and complex operation. From ticketing to restaurants and gift shops, every point of interaction involves a transaction. A tailored POS system ensures fast and efficient service.
Key Benefits:
Faster Transactions: Nobody wants to wait in long queues. A POS system reduces the waiting time, keeping customers happy.
Multiple Payment Options: Cash, card, mobile payment – a good POS system handles it all seamlessly.
Real-Time Data: From managing inventory to tracking daily sales, everything is updated in real time.
Customer Data Insights: Understand customer behaviours and preferences to tailor marketing and improve guest experiences.
What to Look for in a Theme Park POS System
When choosing a POS system for your theme park, make sure it offers:
User-friendly Interface: The system should be easy for staff to use, even under pressure.
Customizable Features: Each theme park has unique needs, so the system should adapt to various departments.
Inventory Tracking: Never run out of those Mickey Mouse plushies! Real-time stock management is essential.
How Much Does a Retail POS System Cost?
If you own or manage a retail store, the question how much does a retail POS system cost is probably at the top of your mind. But let me tell you, the price varies depending on several factors.
What Influences the Cost?
Type of POS System: Are you looking for a traditional on-site system or a cloud-based solution? Cloud-based systems often have lower upfront costs but come with monthly fees.
Number of Users: Larger businesses with more employees will need more licenses, which can increase costs.
Hardware Requirements: Depending on your setup, you might need cash registers, card readers, receipt printers, and barcode scanners – all of which add to the cost.
Additional Features: Features like advanced reporting, multi-store management, and customer loyalty programs will also affect the overall price.
Cost Breakdown
Here’s a rough estimate of what you can expect to pay:
Basic POS Systems: £30 to £50 per month for smaller businesses.
Advanced Systems: £100 to £300 per month for larger stores.
Hardware Costs: These can range from £500 to over £3,000 depending on your setup.
Remember, while upfront costs might seem steep, investing in a quality POS system can save you money in the long run by improving efficiency and reducing errors.
Deli POS Systems: Keeping Things Fresh and Fast
Running a deli comes with its own set of challenges – fast service, managing fresh ingredients, and tracking custom orders. A Deli POS system is designed to help streamline operations while ensuring customers get their food quickly.
Why Deli Owners Love POS Systems
Delis are all about speed. People are often in a rush and want their food ASAP. A POS system ensures that transactions are smooth and that orders are processed correctly and quickly.
Top Benefits:
Customisable Orders: Let’s face it, deli orders are never simple. A good POS system will handle all those customisations – no lettuce, extra sauce, gluten-free bread – without breaking a sweat.
Inventory Tracking: Know when you’re running low on ingredients to prevent disappointed customers.
Sales Tracking: Find out which sandwiches are flying off the shelf and which ones are duds.
Features to Look For:
Fast Checkout Process: This is crucial for delis where customers expect speedy service.
Real-time Inventory: Keep track of perishable goods so you can restock when necessary.
Mobile Integration: Some deli POS systems offer mobile apps that allow customers to place orders before they arrive.
Spa POS Systems: Pampering Customers and Operations
Running a spa means creating a serene and smooth experience for your clients. Your Spa POS system should enhance this relaxation, not disrupt it.
Why Spas Need a POS System
When clients book treatments, they want a hassle-free experience. From managing appointments to handling payments for services and retail products, a Spa POS system is essential.
Key Features:
Appointment Scheduling: The ability to schedule and manage bookings without double-booking clients.
Membership Management: Track regular clients and their preferences, offering them personalised services.
Retail Sales Integration: Sell spa products like lotions, oils, and skincare through the same system.
What to Look for in a Spa POS System
Ease of Use: It should be easy for your staff to use and navigate, especially during busy times.
Customised Client Profiles: Keep track of your customers' favourite treatments, preferred therapists, and payment methods.
Gift Cards and Memberships: A flexible system should allow clients to use gift cards or pay for memberships easily.

Fuel stations face unique operational challenges. From high-volume transactions to fuel tracking, a Fuel POS system helps keep the entire process running efficiently.
Why Fuel Stations Need a POS System

The Future of POS Systems: What’s Next?
POS systems are evolving quickly. Here’s what to expect in the coming years:
Cloud-Based Systems: More businesses are adopting cloud-based solutions due to their flexibility and lower upfront costs.
Mobile POS: Mobile devices are increasingly being used for transactions, particularly in retail and hospitality settings.
AI and Machine Learning: AI-powered POS systems can predict customer behaviour, suggest upsells, and even automate inventory orders.
