I wasn’t gonna write about Ralph Breaks the Internet in detail but now I’m going to because I noticed something.
Spoilers ahead:
With the exception of my son, who’s 6, every male who I’ve explained the plot of the movie to becomes incredibly uncomfortable. Almost every one of them has immediately jumped to Ralph’s defense, saying it “didn’t seem like him” and he was “just trying to be supportive” when that’s the point? When me and my step sister left the theater she looked at me and said, “I didn’t really like Ralph in this movie. He was super clingy.” And then we had a discussion about it. From his first scene with her Ralph is possessive. Not in the “I’m the only one who can have her” kind of way (that comes later, much later) much in the “she’s the only one I have.” At the end of the first movie Ralph says he can’t be a bad guy because that kid likes him. Vanellope makes him feel good about himself. She makes him this medal and because of her kindness he sees her as the only good thing in his life. To Ralph, her friendship is the only thing that makes him valuable. So much so, that he actually fucks up in the beginning by trying to be her “hero,” building her a track and distracting her from her game.
The entire movie he holds onto that medal for dear life and clearly takes it seriously. Vanellope wants something new? I’ll build a track for her. Vanellope wants to be able to race? I’ll fix her game. We need money for the part? I’ll earn it. At one point he reads the comments online saying he’s dumb and he’s ugly and he looks at his medal and goes, “All that matters is what Vanellope thinks of me.” And when he hears that she doesn’t wanna go back and he might be alone for the first time in six years he sabotages the game she’s in.
Of course, his intent isn’t to hurt Vanellope but he does, because the only way he could see value for himself was through this relationship. When Vanellope finds out of course she freaks, takes the medal she made and throws it off the cliff. And in Ralph’s defense, when Vanellope tells him to go away he does. Then his insecurity about having to be without her literally manifests itself as a virus that attempts to track her down and force her to be it’s friend. It’s creepy as all hell and such a male thing to do. Which isn’t to say no one else does this but the language that’s used and the way his insecurity manifests is just very...male.
He’s literally smothering her with his desire to be her hero.
It’s entirely in Ralph’s character to do this considering he spent his entire first movie trying to be a hero. It makes sense that he’d cling to the first friend he made and go out of his way to continue being useful to her so that he always felt needed and wanted. Of course he didn’t want to hurt Vanellope, but he did. And when I’ve explained this the men I’ve talked to have become downright offended and said they’d prefer to watch the first movie where Ralph is her indefinite hero, which kind of tells you a lot about how men see themselves in relationships. Ralph isn’t a bad guy, but it’s very clear that his insecurity and inability to see Vanellope as separate from his sense of self, would’ve lead to him trying to force the friendship to stay as it was.

Alright but how adorable would it be if we got a short with the release of Ralph Breaks the Internet on DVD where it's Felix and Calhoun managing the 15 Sugar Rush kids??
A little sad that we didn't see too much of them in the new film which is understandable but wouldn't it be awesome if we got something similar to Auntie Edna from Incredibles 2??
In the film we didn't see all the shenanigans with Edna and Jack Jack when Bob Parr brought him to E's. BUT with the release of the Incredibles 2 on DVD we get a short film about everything that happened during that time period we didn't see!
If we got something similar to that with WIR2 I think the perfect opportunity would be Felix and Calhoun's first time parenting with 15 out of control children. Since the story was focused on Ralph and Venellope, this short would fill in the fun details on how both of them got the sugar rush kids to behave nicely at the end of the film.
Just image all the fun opportunities it could be, first time parenting, both parents have different perspectives, 15 CRAZY CHILDREN?
Felix and Calhoun are good parents you can't change my mind

Tiana’s appearance is modified from the trailer. Bigger nose. Darker skin.
Want to point that out. Looks like fandom intervention along with Anika Noni Rose going directly to the source helped. A lot. She knew the importance of this, and Tiana’s appearance heavily comes from Anika. Changing that in the first place was pretty ridiculous.
Seeing Tiana’s updated appearance, revealing a better blend of 2D to CGI means when someone says Disney can’t, they undoubtedly can.

Ralph Breaks the Internet honestly feels like a much better version of the stuff with Mabel at the end of Gravity Falls. Both have an immature codependent goofball freaking out and doing something incredibly destructive when they learn a loved one wants to move away from them to pursue their dreams, but while Gravity Falls rewards Mabel for her awful behavior by having Dipper abandon his future to make Mabel happy, Ralph is rightfully called out for being possessive and has to learn that sometimes friends take different paths in life and that he has to let Vanellope go. It’s honestly a much better and more mature message.

The only thing I don't like about the Disney Princess scene (aside from it being too short, but I heard there'll be a longer version on the Blu-Ray) is that it's very, very obvious which Princesses the movie prefers.
Like, some Princesses get like a vast supply of dialog and close-up shots, while other Princesses get one or two if they're Lucky.
