🤔What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
🛠Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
❤️Not a question, just a second kudos to send.
Aww, thanks for the ask AND the second kudos!
What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
There's a few, but two especially come to mind; La Última En Pie, which is a prequel to Silva's Hope, detailing Silva's (or as she referred to herself at the time, Sylvester) life with her young daughter Persephone, her reunion with her adoptive father Paul Yellowjack, and how that lead Silva to travel around the globe chasing after Paul and his "Apostles of Zachariah" as they kidnapped Persephone in a rather dubious attempt to get her to join their cult by witnessing the evils they commit firsthand. It pretty much explains how my future Junior Deputy shed the meek "Sylvester" identity to adopt the stronger "Silva" identity.
The other WIP I want to write is The Omniscient Rule: Dark Omen. Mostly because I want to write how three relatively minor characters (Jeff Hopper, Lisa Cobalt and Fizzer) significantly impact The UnTitledverse's plot and characters (especially the likes of Joaquin's arc) going forward, as well as get their time to shine. It's by far been one of my favorite WIPs from The UnTitledverse series to daydream about.
Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
Well with this question I give three answers; a scene (or rather a whole sequence, LOL) I am struggling with in one WIP as of this time would be the Apex's eventual escape from Malvolio's influence in Sonya's Push. I already got the before and after down, with the before being Jennifer failing at seducing Malvolio so she can assassinate him because she doesn't know he's NOT human, she gets pushed around by him and his bodyguard Denise, and then she goes to the bar to recover after Dicko and Malvolio clear up the "misunderstanding", and the after being the Apex murders almost everyone in the illegal underground arena and is chasing after Jennifer (as well as Dicko). The middle is muddled though: I've got the general idea (someone, preferably Jennifer, releases the Apex from both her stasis chamber and Malvolio's influence, and Malvolio gets out of dodge while Dicko runs for his life leaving Jennifer with a really pissed off Apex), I'm just trying to figure out how and why it comes into play (Why does Jennifer release the Apex, especially from the Beastie's master's control? What benefit does this serve in getting Jennifer in future scenes to want to go after Malvolio for revenge? How does the growing animosity between Dicko and Jennifer come into play here?, etc, etc).
Another thing I struggle with is capturing the evil of my antagonist OCs. With canon antagonists it's really easy; watch/read the antagonist and their thoughts and speeches and actions and go from there, read some meta posts, get authors/creators words on the character and their narrative and then vola! (NOTE: This isn't as easy as I make it sound, but it's easier than my own thoughts). But with my own, I'm having to deal with my own scatterbrained notes and details here. Especially when it comes to getting inside their minds. For example! Father Adam Omar (a major antagonist in Silva's life as he's her homicidal father and abuser) is not going to receive as much POV focus (especially from inside his own thoughts) as everyone else. In fact I've only planned one chapter that entirely focuses on his POV, which is a struggle because he's a batshit insane religious puritan fundamentalist Prophet with delusions of grandeur, a fascist dictator dead-set on colonizing the world after the Collapse happens with his heavily militarized army and an abusive piece of shit father whose a serial killer to his own children, all rolled into one horrible evil human being. With his main character trait being hypocrisy incarnate. (So pretty much I made a copy of the heavily demonized Fanon interpretation of Joseph Seed that strips him of his complexity and even virtuous qualities while making him out to be the worst bastard alive, but crank that shit from zero up to ELEVEN for Adam). The main struggle with writing the perspective of a character like this is to keep in mind that his thoughts must reflect his established character thus far but also his main character trait; which I've mentioned to be hypocrisy. This is not just for human antagonists either; Sir Enigma Malvolio, the main antagonist of Life, Despair & Monsters, is an intelligent creature from another dimension taking on the disguise of a human. With him I have to write a character who not only can't think like a human, but also cannot understand humans to a fault, while wanting to "improve" and "evolve" them while taking enjoyment in mutilating them without caring to understand why that's unethical.
Lastly, comes my number one enemy; romantic relationships. There are various types, and each one is more-or-less different for each couple, especially for the pairs (or more) of characters that are in that relationship. I want to ensure that each romance can be differentiated from the rest, because ironically, for someone who's somewhat disinterested, I've made the romances I have essential to the plot and the arcs of each character (e.g. Silva and Faith's arcs cannot progress without their very important relationship shattering their status quos and initial goals). Problem is, I'm not at all experienced with this stuff, so I rely on what I've seen between people in my personal life, media interpretations, fanfiction and hyperfixating on studies/research on this matter to help me. Especially for the really messy romances (e.g. Sonya and Jennifer).
SOoooo... yeah. That's what I deal with... but I love every second of it. Anyway, thanks for the ask! Don't be afraid to ask for more; I don't bite, but I do like to ramble!
