History of Man: Prologue
My Brother & I Almost Die in a Car Crash
Description: Helen Snow has spent ten years at Camp Half-Blood, and yet the gods remain silent. Unclaimed and overlooked, her resentment toward them has only grown. Despite her bitterness, she would never betray them—until she becomes the one held responsible for a betrayal she didn’t intend to commit. Now, Helen finds herself tangled in a web of fate, echoing the tragic history of her infamous namesake. As the weight of prophecy looms over her, she wonders: can she carve out a life of her own before destiny catches up to her? Or is history doomed to repeat itself? In a world where gods pull the strings and mortals bear the consequences, Helen must decide if she will fight her fate or surrender to it. Word Count: 528 Warnings: Mentions of Death
Have you ever known that something was going to go bad before it happened?
Had a sinking feeling about getting in a car or on a plane?
Wanted to stay home not for any reason other than a gut feeling?
Well, ever since I was a kid I've had these feelings more than anyone else I know.
People usually listened to them. Small town Montana meant people learnt quickly when to listen to me when it came to my premonitions.
Really it all started when I refused to leave the church after my father’s funeral when I was three because something was going to happen. And two minutes later the tornado sirens went off and everyone was ushered back into the church and into the basement.
From that day on people learnt that if I thought there was trouble brewing to listen to me, which is why when I refused to get into my brother’s beat up Bronco to go to my grandparents before he deployed, and he made me I knew we were in deep trouble.
I now know that he thought I refused to get in the car because I didn’t want him to leave, and how I wished my life was simple enough that my biggest worry about getting in that car was to stop my brother from leaving, but it never had been. And that day had proven that point to both me and my brother.
The drive had been doomed from the start but when Nick slowed the car down and let out a quiet ‘shit’ at the giant snake in the middle of the road, with ram horns that was coming straight at us.
After the initial sighting and shockingly good defensive driving from my brother, the rest was a blur.
I remember him calling his commanding officer asking for the ability to report two days late so that he could drop me off with family friends as our grandparents couldn’t take care of me.
I remember the long drive from Montana to Long Island, mixed in with diversions and dangerous driving to get away from other monsters.
I remember being a terrified 9 year old being met by Mr D and a sweet girl my age, who I know call my best friend, under a tree and my brother saying he couldn’t come with me past the tree.
I remember getting a call from my brother when he arrived in Miramar telling me that my grandparents thought I was at a summer camp, and that he’d come and visit when he could but he wasn’t sure if I would be able to leave Camp Half Blood.
I remember making friends and watching them get claimed wondering when it would happen to me and it never happening.
In all honesty I think I’m still in that survival mode, not entirely sure if 11 years later if I ever left it.
I know now that Cerastes wasn’t the first monster to attack.
I know now why Cerastes attacked.
I know now that my brother has been fighting for my survival since he was 18 and I was 3 when he didn’t have to.

history of man: characters
Helen Snow
Bio: Helen was born in Nottinghill in London in January 2004. She is the daughter of an unknown god and Nick Snow, a professor of cultural anthropology. She was raised in London until she was 9 years old and her father decided it would be safer for her at Camp Half-Blood, taking a job offer he'd gotten at NYU to be closer to her.
Weapon of Choice: Trident. Helen's weapon of choice is a Trident, which she was gifted by Poseidon after being the only camper willing to help one of his hippocampi who had washed ashore after a storm. However, she prefers mental warfare to physical violence as she believes it is more effective, though she has had to be reminded that some of her preferred techniques could be classed as against the Geneva Conventions.
Cabin: Having not been claimed for the past 11 years Helen has racked up a considerable time in Cabin 11, having solidly earned herself one of the coveted bunks. However, over the years Cabin 6, Cabin 10, and Cabin 12 have offered her a place to call home given her close friendship with members of these cabins. As of the beginning of the summer this year Helen has taken Mr D and Chiron's offer of her own room in the Big House.
Fun Fact: When she was 11 she drove almost half the camp insane during a game of Capture the Flag, and has since been a moderator of the game with Chiron and Mr D instead of participating.
Rosa Garcia
Bio: Rosa was born and raised in Greenwich Village, her mother is a guitarist for With the Band (a world-famous band in this world). She grew up raised by a hodgepodge group of rockstars and women that made up her mother's found family. She first attended camp when she was 7, her mother believing it would be safer for her and her brother than being on the road with her for the summer, and ever since they've come back like clockwork despite not being the biggest magnets for monsters.
Weapon of Choice: A baseball bat. Rosa's weapon of choice is an oak and celestial bronze baseball bat that she had growing up and she used to kill her first monster when she was 12.
Cabin: Rosa has always known her father was Mr D and has been attending Camp Half-Blood in the summer since she was 7 with her twin brother Juan, they make up two of four campers in Cabin 12.
Fun Fact: Rosa not so infrequently turns some of the ends of the season and not-quite-good enough strawberries into wine for her and Helen to enjoy on summer evenings by the lake. Though her father hasn't caught on to it being alcoholic yet.
Juan Garcia
Bio: Juan was born and raised in Greenwich Village, his mother is a guitarist for With the Band (a world-famous band in this world). He grew up raised by a hodgepodge group of rockstars and women that made up his mother's found family. He first attended camp when he was 7, his mother believing it would be safer for him and his sister than being on the road with her for the summer, and ever since they've come back like clockwork despite not being the biggest magnets for monsters.
Weapon of Choice: Daggers. Juan's weapon of choice is a pair of celestial bronze daggers that he was gifted for his 16th birthday by his father after losing his previous dagger.
Cabin: Juan has always known her father was Mr D and has been attending Camp Half-Blood in the summer since he was 7 with his twin sister Rosa, they make up two of four campers in Cabin 12.
Fun Fact: The Stoll brothers often call upon Juan to bless their attempts at making alcohol so that they don't accidentally poison anyone, each time he actually prays that his father will never find out about the toilet moonshine.
Ava Gupta
Bio: Ava was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina by her mother and stepfather. She has always been her parents' little princess so when she said she wanted to go to Camp Half-Blood having heard about it from one of her friends, her parents were shocked but agreed. Both of her parents had had a fling with Aphrodite when they were engaged, and as a wedding gift, Aphrodite blessed them with Ava.
Weapon of Choice: Fans. Ava's weapon of choice is a set of celestial bronze fans that Aphrodite gifted her. The fans have a sharp edge that can be used to cut like a knife, they also look very stylish. She also has a bow and arrow that she uses on occasion, as well as the ribbons in her hair being made of woven celestial bronze that can be used as weapons.
Cabin: Ava is one of the Head Campers of Cabin 10 and at 18 became a year-round camper to save on tuition as she goes to NYU, using a car the Stolls definitely didn't steal to commute.
Fun Fact: While Ava may look like she's never even thought about touching dirt she is one of the only people at camp who could find their way out of the woods with their eyes closed, having helped Annabeth map out the woods a few years ago.
Nick Snow
Bio: Nick was born in Santiago, Chile but his family left when he was less than a year old due to the Pinochet regime. He has since been based in London where he met Helen's mother and raised Helen until they were attacked by monsters on a train and he relocated to New York to be close to his daughter at Camp Half-Blood. Nick is a Professor of Cultural Anthropology at NYU, where he specialises in marriage, relationship and love rituals but has gained a large interest in anything ancient Greek since Helen's birth.
Fun Fact: Nick will never admit this to his daughter but he's happy that her mother hasn't claimed her, as he believes it makes her life a lot less complicated.
Rowan Chastain
Bio: Rowan was born in the Sunshine Coast, Australia. His mother unfortunately passed away when he was 2, he was then taken in by his father and was raised by a collection of Satyrs and his father in the Minatour's Labyrinth occasionally venturing out to go on quests and to explore the mortal world.
Weapon of Choice: Pan flute. Rowan has a pan flute from his father that can be used to calm monsters and bring animals to help him. He does travel with a hunting knife and bow and arrows but tries not to harm any creature unless he absolutely needs to.
Cabin: While Pan does not have a cabin at Camp once he joins the Camp he is offered either a place in either Cabin 4 or one of the guest rooms in the Big House, choosing the latter option after talking to Helen about her experience in the Cabins.
Fun Fact: Rowan was raised by his father as his mother died when he was two, making him one of the only demigods in history to have been raised by their godly parent rather than their mortal one.
