summary . y/n keeps getting detention from student council pres winter over the dumbest shit, but turns out she just likes them.
pairing . kim minjeong x gender neutral reader
Tumblr media
y/n had exactly three minutes of peace every morning before the student council president descended from the heavens (or, more accurately, the third-floor council room) to ruin their day.
three minutes. that’s all they got before—
“your tie is crooked.”
y/n closed their locker door to see none other than kim minjeong, aka winter, aka the demon personally assigned to make their life hell. she was standing there with her arms crossed, radiating authority and judgment, like a CEO about to fire an employee for breathing wrong.
before y/n could even protest, a neatly folded detention slip was slammed into their chest.
“bro.” y/n blinked. “are you serious right now?”
winter gave them a once-over, eyes filled with the usual disgust she reserved just for them. “rules are rules.”
y/n glanced down. their tie was, at most, 0.0000001 centimeters off-center.
“you’re joking.”
“i don’t joke.” winter clicked her pen, which was basically the school equivalent of cocking a gun.
y/n groaned, snatched the slip, and dramatically shoved it into their pocket. “you just like giving me detentions, don’t you?”
winter tilted her head like a malicious Victorian cat. “if you followed the rules, you wouldn’t be my problem.”
“oh yeah? what about last time? when you wrote me up because my shoelace was untied?”
“someone could have tripped over it.”
“and the time you gave me a warning for having my hands in my pockets?”
“poor posture. reflects badly on the school.”
“AND WHEN YOU THREATENED TO SUSPEND ME FOR BREATHING TOO LOUDLY!?”
winter blinked. “i don’t recall that one.”
y/n narrowed their eyes. “because i made it up.”
winter’s lips twitched.
SHE ALMOST SMILED.
ALMOST.
y/n’s brain short-circuited. had they just… witnessed a human emotion from the student council terminator??? no. impossible. she was built in a lab to maintain order and hand out unnecessary punishments.
winter smoothed out her blazer. “fix your tie before the next time i see you,” she said before disappearing like a well-dressed cryptid.
-
naturally, y/n did not fix their tie.
so when lunch rolled around, winter materialized at their table before they could even take a bite of their food.
she didn’t even say anything. just placed another detention slip in front of them like she was serving them divorce papers.
y/n slammed their hands on the table. “YOU’RE OBSESSED WITH ME.”
winter crossed her arms. “don’t flatter yourself.”
“then why am i the only one you terrorize? huh? why not mark or jeno? they break rules all the time!”
winter shrugged. “they’re not my problem.”
“but i am?”
winter smirked. “unfortunately.”
y/n blacked out for a second.
did minjeong just smirk at them?
no. no, no, no. that was illegal.
they squinted at her. “are you enjoying this?”
winter raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow. “you’ll never know.”
then she turned and walked away, hair bouncing with every step like she was in a shampoo commercial.
y/n stared after her.
there was no way.
no way in hell.
…but did minjeong like them???
-
detention.
y/n sat at the back of the empty classroom, arms crossed, waiting for their punishment.
the door creaked open, and in walked winter—alone.
y/n’s jaw dropped. “YOU’RE MY DETENTION SUPERVISOR!?”
winter set her clipboard down. “no. i’m here because i also have detention.”
y/n blinked. “for what? excessive micromanaging? tax fraud?”
winter gave them a look. “the teacher said i was ‘abusing my power.’”
y/n grinned. evil. “so even they think you have a personal vendetta against me.”
winter sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “just shut up and start cleaning.”
y/n smirked, picking up a broom. “yes, ma’am.”
for the next twenty minutes, they swept the classroom in silence—well, almost silence, if you ignored y/n humming the mario kart theme every time winter walked past them.
finally, as y/n wiped down the whiteboard, they caught winter staring at them.
like actually staring.
“what,” y/n said, raising an eyebrow.
winter looked away, suddenly interested in the floor. “nothing.”
y/n leaned against the desk. “you think i’m hot, don’t you?”
winter scoffed. “absolutely not.”
“you totally do.”
“shut up.”
“just admit it.”
“i’m giving you another detention.”
y/n laughed. “you literally can’t, you just got stripped of your power.”
winter gritted her teeth.
y/n took a step closer. “sooo,” they dragged out. “if you don’t actually hate me, then why do you keep picking on me?”
winter didn’t say anything. just glared at the floor.
y/n’s smugness disappeared.
“…wait.” they blinked. “do you actually like me?”
silence.
more silence.
and then—
”…shut up.”
y/n almost dropped dead.
THERE WAS NO WAY.
“OH MY GOD.” they gasped. “YOU DO.”
“no, i don’t.”
“YOU TOTALLY DO.”
“i literally don’t.”
y/n took another step forward, eyes gleaming. “so if i asked you out right now, you’d say no?”
winter looked like she was going through all seven stages of grief.
“…hypothetically,” she muttered. “i would say yes.”
y/n exploded internally.
but on the outside, they just grinned.
“cool,” they said, picking up their bag. “then i’ll pick you up after school.”
winter’s face was so red she looked like a walking fire hazard.
“SHUT UP.”
y/n just laughed.
as y/n walked toward the door, they couldn’t resist.
right next to the light switch, glowing in all its forbidden glory, was the big red emergency button.
the one that, when pressed, would blare an ungodly alarm across the entire school.
y/n stared at it.
it stared back.
and in that moment, their intrusive thoughts won.
click.
the room was immediately filled with the most ear-splitting, soul-crushing, brain-cell-destroying siren known to mankind.
winter whipped around so fast she could’ve gotten whiplash.
“ARE YOU INSANE?!” she shouted over the blaring noise.
y/n, tears in their eyes from laughter, bolted out the door. “SEE YOU AT OUR DATE, BABE!!!”
they made it five steps before—
“Y/N.”
y/n froze.
slowly, they turned around.
winter stood in the doorway, a fresh detention slip in hand, looking like she was about to end their bloodline.
“another. fucking. detention.”
y/n just grinned.
“worth it.”

When Bucky tried to think about the beginning, his mind always drew a blank.
It had been five years since the first time destiny orchestrated your paths to cross, six if one were to count the one-year cryogenic sleep that Bucky spent in Wakanda. The Soldat met you first, back when you, Steve, Sam, and Nat fought him on that highway shoot-out that revealed his identity. After that, you were everywhere—in Bucharest with Steve to coax him out of hiding, on the tarmac battle where you went against half of your own family for his sake, and even in Wakanda, where your eyes became one of the last pairs he saw before his body succumbed to the unforgiving clutches of darkness.
And when he was finally woken up, you were there, too, waiting for him.
Since then, Bucky struggled to remember a time when you weren't there. You supervised his deprogramming in Wakanda, becoming Steve's eyes and ears while the Captain roamed the world as both a fugitive and a vigilante. When the Sokovia Accords turned void, and the scientists in Wakanda assured Bucky that his mind wasn't going to betray his heart anymore, you took him back to New York, offering solace in the form of your warmth pressing against his side on the plane ride to the States.
Even once the two of you landed on the compound's grounds, you never strayed too far—standing between Bucky and a begrudging Tony as if you were ready to launch yourself forward should the billionaire try to do anything untoward. As if the ruthless Winter Soldier needed a human shield to prevent him from shattering into fragile little pieces.
Before Bucky knew it, his entire routine—his entire life—became you.
From your morning spar sessions in the gym, the long walks around Brooklyn in the afternoon, to the weekly movie nights that you roped him into in the name of reacquainting him with pop culture—everything in Bucky’s life started to shape and smell like you.
It was a constant.
You were Bucky’s new constant.
And somewhere along the way, Bucky’s little troublemaker of a heart decided, once and for all, to anchor itself to yours.
True to his fashion, Steve was the first person to notice. All of the lingering touches and longing glances, the hard-etched lines of Bucky’s countenance that seemed to soften every time you were near—they spoke of an affection beyond a mere loyalty one might harbor for their teammate. It spoke of love, one that was so unadulteratedly pure and raw that Steve was sure there was no room left in the crevices of Bucky’s heart where a piece of you didn’t reside in.
“You’ve gotta say something, Buck,” Steve said to Bucky one evening.
The two of them were standing in the convention hall of a lavish hotel deep in the heart of Manhattan, surrounded by a guestlist of people that Bucky was assured were some of the most influential figures of the twenty-first century. People tried to swarm him since the moment he entered the party, shoving business cards to his face and dropping names that Bucky knew should have meant something to him. He paid none of them any mind—not when his eyes immediately found you in that sea of ties and ball gowns, just like a moth enticed to a flame.
You were all dolled up for the night, wearing a fancy little number that screams you if only with a little bit of additional sparkles sprinkled on top. Bucky watched you move through the ocean of people, confidence oozing out of every step, a blinding smile as you received each handshake with an indisputable poise. Bucky’s head whipped towards your direction at every echo of laughter, searching for the source, drinking in your infectious glee as if it were the only way to sustain the rhythmic beating of his heart.
Bucky shifted in his feet, Steve’s unprompted advice forcing him to tear his eyes away from where you were standing by Natasha’s side. The blond beside him smiled knowingly, a teasing yet sincere tilt in his voice as he added, “You’ve gotta tell at some point, pal. Better sooner rather than later.”
The line in Bucky’s jaw ticked. He brought the glass of champagne to his lips, tipping the drink back as though the liquid stood a chance against his enhanced metabolism. “Don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Steve rolled his eyes. “Buck.”
“Punk.”
The Captain sighed, reaching for a drink of his own. “At least ask for a dance, will you?”
Before Bucky could register what was happening, Steve had shoved Bucky forward, sending him stumbling forth towards the direction of your canorous laughter. Steve hid his amused smile behind his drink when Bucky flipped him the finger, the latter continuing his steps on wobbly feet, trying to ignore the pounding travelling up his bloodstreams.
“Hey, Bucky,” you greeted as soon as he had reached you. The smile on your face could rival the sun even on its brightest day, and Bucky prayed to every divine being in the universe that he could be on the receiving end of that smile for the rest of his days.
“Barnes.” Natasha nodded.
“Hey, guys. What’s up?” Bucky attempted a smile, tugging at the ridiculous material of his bow tie that Tony had insisted him to wear. In fact, Tony was the one who forced Bucky to attend this whole shindig in the first place—something about showing a united front to prove to the public that there was no bad blood within the Avengers’ team.
It was a shit ton of bullshit, in Bucky’s opinion.
But at least, the party gave him a chance to see you all dressed up to the nines.
“Nothing much.” You shrugged, tilting your head slightly to the side. “Did you need something?”
“No. I mean, I do. I was, um, wondering—” Bucky cleared his throat, “—I actually wanted to see if you’d care to join me for a dance?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Bucky saw Natasha’s eyes widen slightly. The redhead immediately scurried to the side, feigning interest in the tower of chocolate fondue just a couple of feet away.
Bucky’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest when you extended your palm towards him. “I would love to, Buck. Lead the way.”
Your fingers emitted warmth inside his hand, and for a moment, Bucky faltered. He kept his composure enough to guide you through the sea of couples on the dancefloor, willing the erratic thumping in his chest to quieten down as he pulled you flush against his body. The scent of your perfume slithered through the air, filling Bucky’s lungs, attacking each part of his senses until everything Bucky saw, heard, smelled, and felt was you.
“You look beautiful tonight, Sugar.”
The admission tumbled from his lips before Bucky had a chance to stop them, before he could thoroughly process the implications of such candor. You didn’t seem to mind, though. Instead, your persistent smile widened ever so slightly, your eyes twinkling under the glimmering lights of the chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
“Why, you look plenty dashing yourself, Bucky.” You hummed appreciatively, raking your eyes up and down Bucky’s suit-clad figure. “I must say, I was sad to see your long hair gone, but this looks great as well.”
Your fingers skimmed the hard contour of Bucky’s shoulder, leaving goosebumps on their wake, before sneaking through the short tendrils on the nape of his neck. He fought off a groan at the contact, the heavenly feeling of your fingers tugging at his hair sending shivers all throughout his body. Meanwhile, you were still smiling up at him all sweetly, completely oblivious to the rush of heat that you delivered through Bucky’s entire being.
“Sugar,” the nickname fell off Bucky’s lips in a low grunt, and for the first time that night, your composure staggered.
Your breath hitched around a squeak when Bucky managed to tug you closer, circling his arms around your waist until there was barely room for air between both of your bodies. All around you, the world ceased to exist. The only thing that remained were your bated breaths, a raucous disruption through the electric field buzzing between where you and Bucky were pressed against one another.
“I need to tell you something,” Bucky revealed, his voice low and sheer, stripped by unease and something akin to fear.
Your forehead furrowed, undoubtedly sensing the trepidation shining out of the blue of Bucky’s eyes. “What’s the matter, Buck?”
Your palm landed on his stubbled cheek, and Bucky had to fight the urge to lean in, to chase more of your warmth like you were an oasis in the middle of his desert of a life. He grappled for the confession to come, for the feelings in his chest to solidify into something comprehensible. All Bucky had to do was open his mouth and seize the moment.
But just as quickly as it had arrived, the moment splintered through his fingertips.
“Good evening, everyone!”
Bucky's whole body jerked in surprise, his accusatory eyes instantly finding the MC standing on the stage at the front of the room. The music had stopped, replaced by the MC's welcoming remarks addressed towards a dozen supposedly prominent names that Bucky couldn't care less about.
“Hey, let's go find a seat,” you suggested, circling your tender fingers around Bucky's wrist before leading him through the maze of tables.
The two of you sat down just in time for Tony to deliver his opening speech as a representative of the Avengers. You glanced at Bucky in the middle of Tony's heartfelt sentiment about “shaping the future”, your hand finding Bucky's flesh one on his thigh, unaware of the kind of turmoil you have summoned from a single touch.
“You okay, Bucky?” you asked, squeezing his hand. “What was it that you wanted to tell me?”
I wanted to tell you that I love you, Bucky's heart echoed. I don't know when it started, and I don't know how, all I know is that you're every good thing that I have going on in my life.
Bucky's throat tightened.
He never ended up saying the words out loud. Instead, he smiled thinly. “It's not important, sweetheart. I'll tell you later.”
You assessed him curiously before offering him a small smile and directing your attention back towards the stage. Bucky sighed in the aftermath, feeling the wild beating of his heart settled to a normal one.
And just like that, the truth died on the tip of his tongue.
Tumblr media
Weeks passed, and between countless briefings, missions, and reports, Bucky was forced to push all matters concerning his heart to the side. It wasn't easy, not when you occupied every facet of Bucky's otherwise monotone life. Every waking moment was a painful reminder that you were always within reach, but never close enough for him to have.
Following a successful infiltration into an illegal bio-weapon factory in the outskirts of Poland, the team had landed their jet on one of the safehouse grounds somewhere near the border of Poland and Germany. Natasha and Clint disappeared inside the house immediately upon landing, while Sam and Steve stayed on the quinjet to go over a few intels they had managed to gather from the factory.
Bucky's boots scraped softly against the grass as he crossed the distance towards the small lake just a few yards left to the safehouse. The surrounding trees rustled in the wind, a symphony of reds and oranges beneath the solemn autumn sky. On the shore of the lake, Bucky found you sitting, a rare serene look on your face as you closed your eyes to welcome the impending breeze.
“Hi, Bucky,” you greeted, eyes still shut tightly.
“How'd you know it was me, Sugar?”
“I always know when it's you.”
The moment your eyes opened, Bucky's heart stuttered in its cage. The smile you rewarded him was soft, embellished with a tenderness that a man of his repute would never deserve. He knew he should have looked away, but the selfish part of him wanted to hold your stare in place, to relish in your kindness no matter how much he believed he wasn't worthy of it.
“Come on, sit with me.”
You patted the ground next to you, and Bucky obeyed without further questions. He lowered himself on the grass, damp from the lingering chill of autumn air, and stretched his legs out. For a while, neither of you spoke, opting to enjoy the sound of water lapping lazily against the shore, a stark tranquility to the horrors you faced during the mission earlier.
The sky dimmed a tad darker as the sun ducked behind the cover of trees, leaving behind streaks of purple and gold on the horizon. Beside him, you heaved out a sigh, the remnants of sun casting your skin in an ethereal glow.
“Sometimes I wish moments like this could last forever,” you murmured.
Bucky's eyes slid towards you, studying the contours of your face like a historian would an ancient scripture. His fingers twitched, itching to feel every soft and hard edge of your features under the brush of his touch.
You're the only thing in this world I want forever with.
The words resonated in his head and all the way down to his chest, settling like stone sinking underwater, slow and heavy. He almost said it out loud—nearly laid his heart bare for you to judge and scrutinize. But at last, he fabricated a grin and nudged his shoulder playfully to yours.
“You always get sentimental when you're tired,” he joked.
You laughed heartily at his jab, a melodic thing that wrested at every coil of Bucky's heartstrings. The two of you proceeded to watch the sunset together, the silence stretching between you, warm and comfortable. The sky burned in more explosions of hues, casting its reflection upon the lake like a dream neither of you dared to disturb.
If Bucky were a braver man, a better man—one that wasn't weighed down by his history and remorse—maybe he would have told you. Maybe, in another life, Bucky would have charmed you at first sight, claiming you as his before the day could even end. But for now, Bucky was glad to settle for this—for sharing a quiet moment with you, and to bask in your company as though he were worthy of even a fraction of your attention.
For now, Bucky would let the four-letter word wither inside him, locked in a hidden fissure somewhere within his chest, keeping it safe from ever seeing any light of day.
Tumblr media
Days flew by, and it was getting increasingly harder for Bucky to ignore the way his heart gravitated towards yours, to ignore the fact that you were always the first person he searched for in the morning and the last one he wanted to talk to before falling asleep. To pretend like the mere mention of your name didn't send a jolt that revived his entire being. Every single day was a battle between wish and logic—the unruly desire to make you his, and the rational reluctance of dragging you into the mess that was his life.
“This is getting ridiculous, Buck,” Steve said as he leaned back against the bar right next to Bucky, following the latter's eyesight to find you standing at the end of it. “You're just gonna avoid it forever? An eternal silent treatment? The two of you need to talk, whether you like it or not.”
Bucky inhaled a long breath, swirling the Asgardian mead in his glass without ever taking his eyes off you. It was your birthday—a joyous occasion that called for this merry yet intimate celebration with the entire team. The common room of the compound had been transformed into something warm and inviting, lit by the soft glow of string lights draped along the walls. A cake sat on the counter, half-eaten, its candles long blown out, but the remnants of your laughter from when you made your wish still lingered in the air.
From across the room, Bucky watched as Sam teased you about getting older, earning the bird-man a playful swat on his arm. Wanda handed you a small, neatly wrapped gift, and your eyes lit up in a way that made Bucky’s chest ache. He didn’t know what was in the box. He didn’t really care. All he knew was that he wanted to be the reason behind that breathtaking smile of yours.
And then, your eyes lifted.
The eye contact was fleeting. Brief. Gone by the time Bucky realized what was happening and forced his gaze away. Even then, Bucky still caught the hint of surprise as your eyes found his, replaced almost immediately by a longing that Bucky understood all too well. It clutched onto his heart, sinking its sharp nails until the life organ in his chest was bruised and brutally torn apart.
The Captain sighed. “You're being an idiot, pal.”
Bucky knew Steve was right—he was being an idiot. A coward, even. It was his own damn foolishness that had kept him avoiding you for weeks, skipping your morning spars, slipping out of any room you occupied before you could even notice his presence. All because he couldn’t handle the feelings that had taken root in his chest, the one that was growing stronger by the minute, infiltrating deeper into his system every time you so much as looked his way.
The party was still in full swing by the time Bucky decided to retire for the night, forgoing the goodbyes, heading straight to the elevator that took him back to his quarters. It was a few hours later when a clumsy knock sounded against his door, breaking through the quiet that had settled in his room.
“Sugar?”
Bucky's hand clenched around the door handle, his eyebrows knitting together at the sight of you in front of his bedroom.
“Hi, Buckyyy,” you greeted, your words slurring into uncontrollable giggles.
Understanding dawned on Bucky's shoulders. “Sweetheart, are you drunk?”
“Am not!” You huffed, pushing past a stunned Bucky to enter the bedroom.
You looked around for a moment, humming to yourself every time you came across a familiar token that decorated Bucky's room. There was a photo of you and him on the nightsand, a sketch of the Brooklyn Bridge courtesy of Steve hanging on the wall, and a few vinyl records stacked neatly on the shelf, gifted by various members of the team. At last, your steps halted beside the bed, and without a warning, you dove head first into the mattress, chuckling to yourself as you attempted to make snow angels with his blankets.
“This is sooo niceee,” you mused, burying youself deeper into one of Bucky's pillows. “Smells like you, Buck.”
The super soldier tried not to dwell too much on the sight of you lying on his bed, looking like you had always belonged in the same place that Bucky took his rest. A shiver ran down Bucky's spine as he closed the door behind him, his feet quiet against the carpeted floor before he took a tentative seat on the edge of the bed.
“Sugar?” Bucky took your shoulders in his grasp, turning you around until his eyes locked with yours. His heart staggered. “You wanna get back to your room? I could take you.”
His offer made you sit up in seconds, so fast that Bucky feared you might have given yourself a whiplash. He stared at you as your lips trembled, your whole body turning away from him until you were just a breadth out of his reach.
His fingers contracted in grief.
“Hey, Sugar? What's—”
“Why do you hate me?”
Silence.
Bucky's forehead creased in confusion.
“Hate you?” Bucky tasted the accusation on his tongue—the word being so foreign and farfetched from anything he could associate with you that Bucky had to wonder if he had misheard what you spoke. “Sweetheart, I don't hate you.”
“Liar.” You scoffed, scooting towards the foot of the bed, seemingly adamant to draw as much distance as possible between Bucky and yourself. “You have been avoiding me for weeks. You don't want to talk to me, or do anything with me. You hate me.”
Bucky blinked, stunned into momentary silence before shaking his head as if trying to rid himself of the sheer absurdity of your words. “That’s not true,” he murmured, his voice rough with something that sounded dangerously close to regret.
You laughed at his response—a wry, sarcastic laugh that was void of even the smallest hint of your usual warmth. “Then what other possible reason could you have for avoiding me, Bucky? Hm?” Your head turned towards him, and for the first time that night, Bucky finally saw the telltale sign of tears in your eyes, a glassy sheen that erased any remnant of the wits that Bucky had grown to know and love.
His stomach churned.
Guilt was eating at him alive. He couldn't believe that his stupidity had caused this—that he had hurt you due to his own incapability of controlling his emotions. Bucky didn't know what he was thinking when he decided that the best course of action would be to completely evade you, but he certainly didn't think that it would result in this.
With you, sitting on his bed, crying your eyes out while simultaneously breaking Bucky's heart in the process.
Bucky exhaled sharply, as if the weight of his own remorse was pressing down on his chest. He couldn't stand it—the way your shoulders quivered, the way you tried so desperately to keep your composure together as tears welled in your eyes.
"Sweetheart," he rasped, reaching for you, his fingers hesitant at first before firming in resolve. "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry.”
You stiffened at his touch, your lips parting as if to protest, but Bucky was already pulling you into his embrace, holding you tightly against the muscular panes of his chest. His hands skimmed soothingly along your back, whispers of sweet nothings falling from his lips as he rocked you in the safety of his arms.
“I don't hate you, Sugar,” he murmured, voice shattering around the edges. “I've never hated you. How could I?”
How could I hate you when you are the only source of light I have remaining in this world? How could I hate you when loving you is the only thing about my life that I am absolutely certain of?
Your breath hitched against his shoulder, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. “Bucky—”
“Shh,” he soothed, pressing his lips to your temple in a featherlight touch. “Just let me hold you, okay?”
Slowly, he guided the both of you down onto his bed, his arms never loosening from where they were wrapped around your body. His heartbeat thumped steadily beneath your cheek, his fingers drawing lazy patterns against your back. The tension in your body melted bit by bit with each gentle word, the rise and fall of his chest lulling you into something softer—something safe.
“Don't ever do that to me again,” you warned shakily. “Promise me.”
Bucky's hold around you tightened. “I promise.”
“Good.” You sighed, exhaustion wearing down every inch of your bones. “You're my favorite person, Bucky.”
The admission pierced Bucky's chest like a lightning strike. He knew he should not have read too much into it, that the revelation was nothing more than a drunken slip of tongue that you probably would not even remember in the morning. But for now, Bucky chose to let that little detail slide, to let himself pretend that the confession had been made with more purposeful intent behind it—that the words had meant as much to you as it did to Bucky.
"Sleep, sweetheart," he whispered, his lips brushing against your forehead. "I've got you."
Tumblr media
Since that night in his bedroom, Bucky had made a vow: he wasn't going to run anymore.
Bucky had learned his lesson. He wasn't going to let his own fears dictate his actions, nor would he allow his emotions ruin the precious friendship he had built with you over the past few years. Whatever he felt—whatever torment clawed at his chest whenever you so much as looked his way—it was his burden to bear. You didn't deserve to suffer for his cowardice, and he swore to himself that he would never let it happen again.
That thought lingered in Bucky's mind as he moved stealthily through the abandoned industrial site, gun drawn, boots scraping silently against the cracked concrete floor. The mission was straightforward: take out remaining hostiles, extract any valuable intel, and regroup. Simple. A basic in and out job that would be done just in time for dinner.
The team had split into pairs, and as fate would have it—or rather, as Steve would have it—Bucky found himself assigned to the west wing of the site alongside you. The direct channel to your comms in Bucky’s earpiece was quiet, and the super soldier took it as a good indication that your side of the mission was going smoothly. Meanwhile, he swept through his own side of hallways with methodical precision, checking every room, muttering a curt “clear” to his comms for each canvassed area.
The air was eerie with cold and mold when Bucky entered the last remaining room in the hallway. There was nothing particularly different about this one. It was just as empty and as menacing, smelling of rat’s piss and years of abandonment, though his seasoned instinct—one sculpted from years of fighting and survival—warned him that something was amiss. His fingers tightened around his weapon almost instinctively, feeling an immediate unease venture up his spine, raising the very hair on the back of his neck.
The silence was too perfect.
Bucky’s feet skidded to a stop, turning on his heel to retrace his steps back towards the entrance.
Then, it happened.
The ambush struck like lightning on water. One second Bucky was alone, and the next, shadows had flooded the room, faceless figures in tactical gears leaping towards him at the same time. They were fast and ruthless, and even though none seemed to possess enhanced abilities, Bucky was still outnumbered. He dodged the first three attackers easily enough—disarming the blade from the first assailant’s hand, ducking out of the swinging baton of the second’s, and rolling on the floor before redirecting the third one’s bullet with the palm of his vibranium arm.
Bucky dashed out of the room into the one right across, the group of attackers still hot on his tail. He ducked behind a metal table and started opening fires at the entrance, taking out the threats before they even got the chance to enter the room. A curse fell under his breath when Bucky realized that he had worked through his rounds, scrambling to replace the ammunition as footsteps thundered into the room.
Slamming the fresh magazine in place, Bucky inhaled a gearing breath, only to be met with a sudden hush that descended through the air.
He raised his gun.
Instead of finding himself at the end of numerous gun barrels, Bucky was granted the view of bodies scattered all over the floor. The tang of iron meshed detestably with the spoor of grime, fog swirling around the edge of Bucky’s adrenaline-honed mind. When the dust finally stifled, his focus immediately zeroed in on the figure standing amidst the wreckage, rising out of the smoke like a doomsday’s salvation.
“Hi, handsome.” You smiled around a heavy exhale, a crinkle in your eye that seized the very life out of Bucky’s lungs. “Miss me?”
Bucky let out a rough breath, somewhere between relief and admiration. The grip around his weapon slackened ever so slightly, his body still thrumming with fight-and-flight, though the sight of your beautiful smile had managed to wash him with the kind of serenity that no other person could compel.
“Was wondering when you’d show up, sweetheart,” Bucky said, rising from his makeshift fortress behind the table.
“Sorry, Sarge.” You hummed, casually brushing the dust off Bucky’s shoulder as though the contact didn’t send him skyrocketing to heaven. “You know I like to keep people on their toes.”
Bucky failed to suppress his grin, nudging your shoulder as the two of you headed towards the entrance. With the hostiles neutralized, and the information uploaded to the flash drive discreetly tucked in the safety of Bucky’s inside pocket, the two of you were prepared for extraction. He redirected his comms to the main channel, alerting the other team members that the two of you were ready to wrap up and get the hell out of this dismal place.
He was barely a foot out of the door when a loud bang resonated in the air.
In a split second, Bucky sprung in retaliation, taking aim at one of the bloody assailants on the ground that had somehow taken hold of a gun, Bucky’s finger pulling at his own weapon’s trigger, assassinating him in place.
The silence that followed was deafening.
Bucky’s heart throbbed in his throat, a silent prayer on his lips at how close of a call it had almost been. His gaze took a quick scan of the pile of bodies on the floor, making sure that none of them would pull a similar stunt, only allowing his shoulders to deflate when he saw no remaining signs of life.
“Bucky?”
Your voice barely reached him, thin despite the echoic air of this dingy site, but something inside Bucky twisted the moment he heard it.
When he turned, the initial relief that had flooded his chest instantly collapsed.
You were standing there, just a breadth out of reach with your gun still tightly clutched between your fingers. But the side of your neck—God, the side of your neck—was slick with red, thick and dark as it ran in angry runnels down your skin, staining the collar of your tactical gear, pooling on your shoulder and drenching everything it touched.
Your whole body swayed.
Bucky’s heart dropped to the pit of his stomach.
“No, no, no—” he rasped as he caught you, arms winding around your frame to prevent you from hitting the floor. His knees slammed onto the cold concrete below as he cradled you against his chest, the tremble in his body betraying the steel he was supposed to be made out of.
Bucky blinked, willing this moment to splinter into a dream, willing for his body to be transported back into the comfort of his bedroom where the scene playing out in front of his eyes would be nothing more than a heinous nightmare. But as Bucky’s arms tightened around your limp figure, the awful, gut-wrenching truth settled like ice in his veins.
This was real.
The blood seeping through your gear wasn’t imagined. The faint hitch in your breath, the loss of color from your face, the sheer terror clawing its way up his throat—none of it was a dream.
His chest crashed.
“Hey, hey. I got you, Sugar.” His voice cracked as he pressed a palm against your wound, despairingly staunching the warmth from slipping through his fingers. But no matter how hard he was grasping, the blood just kept on flowing—too fast and too much—soaking his hands and every corner of his battered soul.
“Shit. Stay with me, sweetheart. Please,” he begged. “Steve! Nat! Somebody get here now!” he barked into his earpiece, nails digging deeper into your skin. “We need a medic! We need a—fuck—just get down here!”
You made a sound, somewhere between a gasp and a whimper, your breath warm against his cheek as you murmured, “I-It’s gonna… gonna be o-okay.”
It was a lie.
You both knew it.
And it destroyed him.
“Don’t do that.” Bucky shook his head, his voice cracking around a choked sob. He forced a smile as he looked down at your pale face. “You always suck at lying.”
Your lips parted, the faintest ghost of a smile trying to make its way through, only to be interrupted by a wet cough that made Bucky’s chest cave in.
“Gotta stay with me, sweetheart. Please,” Bucky whimpered. “The team’s coming. Help is on the way. Just gotta hang in there a little more for me, yeah? Just a little longer. Please.”
Bucky wasn’t entirely sure to whom he was begging—whether it was you, the universe, or any higher divine power that might have heard his wretched prayer and taken pity on him. A man who had lost everything and asked for nothing, who was now asking for someone—anyone—to save the only thing in this world that made his life worth living, even if it meant having to sacrifice his soul in exchange.
Your hand reached out tentatively, shakily, gripping the strap of his tactical jacket and giving it the faintest tug.
“Bucky,” you whispered, voice dissipating like a wisp of smoke as soon as you had uttered his name. Your eyes, glassy and unfocused, searched for his, and when they finally found him, a weak smile curved at your lips. “I love you.”
A sound tore from his throat, raw and full of despair. His forehead dropped against yours, his entire body rupturing under the weight of your words.
“I love you.” Bucky’s voice stammered. “God, I love you—I love you, sweetheart, I love you so much.” He pressed his lips against your clammy forehead, again and again, as though he could tether you here, as though his love alone could be enough to keep you from slipping away.
He should have been happy—should have felt something else other than this hollow, scorching agony. The person of his dreams, the one he had spent sleepless nights longing for, had just made the one admission that his heart had been wanting to hear, and yet, all he could do was break. His whole being perished under the weight of everything left unsaid, every moment wasted, every regret carving him open from the inside out.
He should have told you sooner.
God, he should have just told you—should have braced past his insecurities and found the courage somehow, should have showered you with every drop of love he had neatly stowed in his heart until he was shriveled and had no else to give. He should have bought you flowers everyday, let you know that you were the most beautiful person Bucky had ever met on this goddamn planet—because you deserved it.
You deserved everything.
Not this.
Not bleeding on the filthy floor of this desolate place, fighting off death that had bludgeoned its way right through your door.
“You’re gonna be okay, Sugar. We’re getting out of here, you hear me?” His breath stuttered, his grip tightening as if he could physically gather all of your fragmented pieces and mend you as new. “I’m gonna treat you so good. You’ll see. Gonna spoil you rotten like I ought to. Just—please, just hold on—”
Your fingers twitched against his chest. Your eyes fluttered.
A quivering breath left your lips before your body went completely limp.
Bucky stilled.
“Sugar?”
Nothing.
No soft inhale. No faint murmurs of response.
No squeeze of your fingers against his jacket.
Bucky’s entire world came crashing down in the blink of an eye.
“No. No, no, no, no—”
His hand cupped your face, blood smearing from his skin to yours. Bucky’s fingers trembled as he tapped your cheek, as if the action alone could keep you here, could bring you back to him. His breathing ceased, his whole body shuddering as he rocked you in his arms, your name tumbling over and over again from his lips like a prayer, like a curse, like a plea to the universe to undo everything, to give him one more chance, to take him instead.
“Come back to me,” he whispered, his face wet with the fractured shards of his heart. “Please.”
The only thing that acknowledged him was silence.
And Bucky Barnes had never hated the quiet more.

SECOND NATURE — kim minjeong.
Tumblr media
synopsis. winter supposedly hates when you tease her—but she hates it even more when your attention is on someone else.
pairing. winter x added!member!reader
warning(s). fluffy, r is a big tease tease, slightly possessive winter, and let me know if there's more!
words. 850 💔
authors note. had to get a req out. im not ignoring them i swear im just lazy & kinda busy. also not a lot of drama im sorry anon :( it was just too cute
navigation. main masterlist. request.
Tumblr media
winter was in the middle of a solo live broadcast when you decided to join in through the comments.
at first, you kept it subtle, just sending random emojis and vague messages. but then you saw her sipping on her drink, and you had to say something.
y/n: why do u hold ur cup like that lmao
y/n: so small… like ur hands
winter paused mid-sip, eyes narrowing. “yah,” she muttered, scanning the comments until she found yours. “why are you even here?”
she tried to act unfazed, but the way she adjusted her grip on the cup said otherwise.
y/n: just admiring how cute u look struggling w that big cup
winter choked on her drink. “i am not struggling!” she insisted, wiping her mouth. “this is normal!”
the fans, of course, began eating up the drama. you and winter exchanged quips for a bit, with winter growing more and more flustered each time, much to your entertainment.
y/n: show them ur hands compared to the cup
winter hesitated. “no.”
y/n: pls
she sighed before finally holding up the cup next to her hand.
it was, in fact, way too big for her.
you nearly cackled.
y/n: ohmygod
winter immediately ended the live.
Tumblr media
then there was the time during rehearsal when she was trying to focus on a dance move, and you just had to mess with her.
winter is practicing a turn, her expression serious as she concentrates. but the moment she lands and meets your gaze, you give her a slow, exaggerated wink.
she stumbles.
“y/n!” she whines, immediately turning back around to avoid your smug face.
“what?” you ask innocently. “did i distract you?”
“obviously!”
you chuckle, walking up to her. “my bad, my bad. here, try again.”
she eyes you suspiciously but sighs before resetting her stance. you nod encouragingly as she prepares to turn again.
just as she moves—
you poke her side.
she yelps, spinning a little too fast and losing her footing. she goes down in an ungraceful tangle of limbs, glaring up at you from the floor.
you grin sheepishly.
winter is furious.
Tumblr media
she’s so easy to mess with—it’s practically a sport at this point.
winter sits cross-legged on the couch in the practice room, scrolling through her phone, completely unaware of your approach. you sneak up behind her and suddenly wrap your arms around her shoulders.
she flinches, almost dropping her phone. “yah!”
“just checking if you’re still ticklish,” you tease, resting your chin on her shoulder.
she wriggles in your hold, huffing. “i’m not—”
you squeeze her sides lightly.
she yelps.
the entire room erupts into laughter. giselle and ningning are practically on the floor.
winter twists around to glare at you, cheeks burning. “i hate you.”
“you love me,” you correct, grinning.
she groans, smacking your arm. “go away!”
Tumblr media
it’s supposed to be a casual group live—just you, winter, karina, giselle, and ningning, sitting together promoting the new single and chatting with fans.
and for the past few minutes, you’ve been directing all your teasing at giselle.
“eh, why do you always sit like that?” you laugh, nudging giselle’s shoulder.
she raises an eyebrow. “like what?”
“like you own the place,” you joke. “you sit like a ceo in every live.”
the fans flood the chat with laughing emojis, some agreeing, others spamming “giselle ceo era.”
giselle plays along, smirking. “maybe i do own the place.”
“oh?” you lean in, grinning. “should we start calling you boss?”
winter, sitting beside you, shifts slightly. you don’t notice at first—too focused on the banter with giselle. but the chat certainly does.
winter looks mad lol
minjeong is pouting.
she’s jealous.
meanwhile, you continue teasing. “giselle, say something ceo-like.”
giselle dramatically clears her throat. “you’re all fired.”
the group bursts into laughter, but before you can say anything else, you feel a hand tug at your hoodie.
you barely have time to react before you’re pulled back—right into winter’s side.
you blink, glancing at her. she isn’t looking at you, instead focusing on the screen with a suspiciously neutral expression.
but her grip on your hoodie tightens.
winter pulling y/n helppp.
possessive winter omg.
did she just…
you glance at giselle, who is trying not to smile. ningning and karina look equally amused.
you smile.
“stop teasing giselle,” winter muttered under her breath, and though she tried to sound casual, the possessiveness in her tone wasn’t lost on you.
you bite your lip to keep from laughing. “yeah, okay, fine.”
winter lets go of your hoodie and tries to play it off as nothing, but you know she can still feel the weight of your eyes on her.
you tried your best to stifle your smile, but it was hard not to enjoy the way winter was reacting. she glanced at you from the corner of her eye, but as soon as she saw you looking back, she quickly turned her head away.
she was so cute.
you reach over and take her hand.
she tenses, glancing at you again.
you smile warmly.
the fans in the chat go crazy.
again.

Cuddles
Bucky x GN!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: just a quick Drabble/Imagine about Bucky needing cuddles
Warnings: cuddling, vague mentions to Bucky having a hard time but nothing graphic or especially angsty, just some sweet fluff, Alpine!
A/N: this is the first time in a hot second that I've done a fic that isn't bullet points, so fingers crossed it turned out alright 😅
((18+ only below the cut please and thank you!!))
Imagine Bucky needing cuddles after a rough day.
Maybe a mission goes badly, or he's just been in a bad mood, or Fury and him had an argument or something, but regardless he's had a bad day and all he wants is a peaceful night at home. Alpine greets him at the door as he kicks off his boots, purring as she butts her head against his leg. Bucky smiles and lifts her up, scratching her head.
She lets out a happy little chirp as he carries her into your shared bedroom, and there he sees something that immediately brightens his day.
“Hey, Pretty Girl,” he murmured, “where's my Doll, huh?”
There you are, asleep and curled up on your bed, wearing his hoodie. It made his heart swell. Bucky set Alpine down on the bed, and the white kitten curled up into your side, purring loudly. You stirred, half-awake as you felt the mattress shift. Two strong arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you close to a firm chest. A stubbly face nuzzles into your collarbone, pressing little kisses to your neck. You smile, your boyfriend coming home is one of the best parts of the day.
“Welcome home, Baby,” you whisper, pressing a kiss to Bucky's temple and running a hand through his hair, “how was work?”
“You have me, Sweetheart,” your free hand reaches down to hold his metal one, gently toying with his Vibranium fingers, “we'll stay here as long as you want.”
“‘Don’t wanna talk about it right now,” he pulls you closer to him, “just wanna hold you.”
He lets out a happy little hum and nuzzles against you.
Later, the two of you will get out of bed and he'll tell you about his day over Chinese takeout and little kisses. But for now, Bucky is more than content to lay here, snuggled up and drifting off into a peaceful nap with you and Alpine in his arms.

Safe in Your Arms - NingNing x Fem reader
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Ningning, overwhelmed by practice and self-doubt, longs for the comfort of another's embrace.
The air in the apartment crackles with silence, heavy with exhaustion and unspoken frustration. It clings to Ningning like a second skin, wrapping around her as she stumbles through the door, her body screaming in protest after another grueling practice session. The ache in her muscles is nothing compared to the weight pressing against her chest—a suffocating mix of self-doubt and relentless pressure.
She’s been pushing herself harder than ever, desperate to find that missing spark, that elusive perfection that seems just beyond her reach. With the comeback looming closer, every mistake, every misstep feels magnified, as if the whole world is watching and waiting for her to fail.
Letting out a shaky breath, she tosses her bag onto the couch with a dull thud. The impact barely registers in her mind.
She feels too drained, too consumed by the war raging inside her head to notice anything around her—not the soft glow of candlelight flickering from the dining table, not the delicate scent of fresh flowers perfuming the air, and certainly not the way Y/N has been waiting for her, carefully preparing something special.
Because today is their anniversary.
But Ningning forgets. She’s too lost in the chaos of her own thoughts, in the exhaustion gripping her limbs and the frustration tightening in her chest.
Y/N, who had spent the past hour making sure everything was perfect—their favorite takeout laid out neatly, a small bouquet nestled in the center of the table, soft music playing in the background—sees the exhaustion in Ningning’s face the moment she steps through the door. And in that instant, they know.
She doesn’t remember.
But instead of feeling hurt, Y/N only feels concern.
Ningning looks like she’s on the verge of breaking, and that matters more than any anniversary.
Silently, Y/N walks toward her, their voice gentle as they reach out.
“Hey,” they murmur, their touch feather-light against her arm. “You look like you’ve had a rough day.”
Ningning exhales sharply, her lips pressing together in a thin line. She nods, but words feel too heavy to form.
Y/N offers a small, understanding smile. “Come sit down,” they say softly, guiding her toward the dining table. “I made dinner. Well, ordered it. But it’s your favorite.”
For the first time since stepping inside, Ningning actually looks at the table. Her gaze flickers over the neatly arranged plates, the candles burning softly, the delicate arrangement of flowers sitting in the middle. Guilt tugs at her chest.
She should have remembered. She should have come home excited, with a gift in hand, ready to celebrate the person who had been her safe haven for so long. But right now, she feels like she barely has the energy to hold herself upright.
Still, she sits.
She picks at her food absently, her mind too tangled in frustrations to fully register the taste. But Y/N doesn’t push her to talk. They don’t ask why she’s so quiet, don’t demand that she be present in a moment she’s clearly struggling to stay in. They just sit there, a steady, grounding presence.
And it’s that quiet patience, that unwavering understanding, that finally makes the words spill out.
“It’s just…” Ningning exhales sharply, setting down her chopsticks. “I don’t know. I feel like I’m trying so hard, but something isn’t clicking. And with the comeback so close, I—I don’t want to let anyone down.”
Y/N listens, truly listens, nodding softly as she talks. When she pauses, they reach for her hand, their fingers lacing together with quiet certainty.
“You’re working so hard, Ning,” they say gently. “It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. But you’re incredible. You always give your best. And I promise you, that’s enough.”
Ningning’s lips press together. “But what if it’s not?”
“It is,” Y/N insists, squeezing her hand just a little tighter. “You don’t see yourself the way I do. Or the way your fans do. You light up every stage you step onto, Ning. Even when you’re struggling, you still shine.”
Ningning’s chest tightens, the emotions of the day catching up to her all at once. She hadn’t realized how badly she needed to hear those words until now.
After dinner, Y/N stands, tugging her gently toward the couch.
“Come here,” they whisper.
She follows without hesitation, sinking into the cushions as Y/N carefully wraps a thick, plush blanket around her. And then Y/N is there—arms encircling her, pulling her close.
Ningning exhales shakily, letting herself melt into the embrace. The weight of the day clings to her, but Y/N’s warmth slowly begins to chip away at it.
“You know,” Y/N murmurs, their fingers trailing through her hair in slow, soothing strokes, “you don’t have to carry all of this alone.”
Ningning closes her eyes. “I know… I just—I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”
“You never disappoint anyone,” Y/N whispers. “You give so much of yourself to everyone around you. But even if you don’t feel perfect, your best is always enough. You are enough.”
A lump forms in Ningning’s throat. Her grip tightens on Y/N’s hoodie as a quiet sniffle escapes her. She hadn’t realized how much she needed to hear that. To feel this.
“Maybe,” Y/N continues, their voice barely above a whisper, “you just need to rest. To let yourself breathe. You’re not a machine, love. You’re human.”
The words settle deep into Ningning’s chest, warm and reassuring. She lets herself sink further into Y/N’s arms, the rhythmic strokes of their fingers through her hair slowly unraveling the tension in her body.
A few moments pass in silence, save for the soft hum of the music playing in the background. Y/N’s touch is hypnotic, their presence an anchor. The weight she’s been carrying for weeks doesn’t feel quite as unbearable anymore.
She stays like that, wrapped in Y/N’s warmth, in their quiet understanding, until exhaustion pulls her under. But before sleep claims her, she tilts her head slightly, her voice barely above a whisper.
“I love you,” she murmurs, the words thick with emotion.
Y/N smiles, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head. “I love you too,” they whisper back, holding her just a little tighter.
And as she drifts into sleep, safe and cherished, Ningning finally feels at peace
Tumblr media
The Realization
The next morning, Ningning arrives at practice still groggy from exhaustion. She expects another long, grueling day, but as soon as she steps into the studio, her members greet her with mischievous smiles.
“Happy anniversary to both of you Ning!” Karina grins, nudging her playfully.
Her heart stops.
Giselle smirks. “Y/N’s so sweet. What did they do for you last night?”
And that’s when it hits her like a ton of bricks.
She forgot.
Her chest tightens. Y/N never said anything, never even hinted that they were disappointed. Instead, they had spent the entire evening comforting her, making her feel loved, even when she had completely overlooked their special day.
She feels awful.
Her members burst into laughter at the look of pure horror on her face.
“Oh my god,” she breathes. “I forgot.”
Karina pats her back. “Better make it up to her, then.”
And Ningning is already pulling out her phone, her mind racing.
She needs to fix this. And she needs to make it perfect.
The Grand Gesture
That evening, Y/N is exhausted from work, completely unaware of Ningning’s plan. They step out of the building, stretching their stiff shoulders, when suddenly—
A sleek, familiar car pulls up right in front of them.
The window rolls down, and Ningning leans out with a playful smirk.
“Need a ride?”
Y/N blinks in surprise. “Ning? What are you—”
“Just get in.”
Y/N hesitates for only a second before climbing into the passenger seat. The moment they buckle in, Ningning takes their hand, lacing their fingers together.
“I’m so sorry,” she says, her voice soft but filled with emotion. “I completely forgot our anniversary, and you didn’t even say anything. You just—you just took care of me. You always do.”
Y/N squeezes her hand. “You were exhausted, love. I didn’t want to make you feel worse.”
Ningning’s chest tightens. “That’s exactly why I don’t deserve you.”
Y/N frowns. “Hey—”
“But,” Ningning interrupts, flashing a small smile, “I plan to make it up to you.”
She pulls into a quiet, private restaurant, the kind of place hidden away from prying eyes. The staff greets them warmly, leading them to a secluded table with a breathtaking city view. Soft candlelight flickers around them, and the air is filled with the gentle hum of classical music.
Y/N looks around in amazement. “Ning, this is…”
“A surprise.” Ningning grins. “A way to say thank you. And to remind you how much I love you.”
Y/N feels a lump form in their throat.
As the night goes on, they talk, laugh, and reminisce about their favorite memories together. Ningning watches the way Y/N’s eyes sparkle when they smile, the way their laughter fills the space between them, and she feels so unbelievably lucky.
As dessert arrives, Ningning takes Y/N’s hands in hers, her voice turning serious.
“You’re always there for me,” she murmurs. “Even when I don’t deserve it. Even when I’m selfish and caught up in my own world, you never make me feel bad about it. You just love me.”
Y/N shakes their head, their eyes soft. “You do deserve it, Ning. And you’re never selfish. I know how much pressure you’re under.”
Ningning bites her lip, looking down at their joined hands. “Still… I don’t ever want you to feel like I take you for granted. Because I don’t. I love you. So much.”
Y/N smiles, squeezing her hands. “I know. And I love you too.”
Ningning exhales, relief washing over her.
By the time they leave, the night air is cool, but Ningning feels warm inside. She pulls Y/N into a tight hug, burying her face in their shoulder.
“Thank you for loving me,” she whispers.
Y/N kisses the top of her head. “Always.”
And as they stand there, wrapped in each other’s arms under the city lights, Ningning knows—this, this is what truly matters.
Their love.
Their home in each other.
And nothing else in the world comes close.

the post abt tying a bow around lighters biceps has me thinking abt that thing where you test out different lipstick shades by covering ur partner in kiss marks n seeing what one looks best,,,,, and no I would not limit myself to his face
i think about this prompt like A LOT. as someone who lurvesss wearing lipstick, i genuinely think that he’d be the perfect candidate for it.
lucy prefers to ask you for makeup recommendations and purchasing it. not that she doesn’t trust lighter but after talking to you, you seemed to know more about it than he did. whenever it came to purchasing makeup, she’d ask you to go along with lighter to lumina square.
this was also a good way to buy some new products for yourself, a win win situation. there was a huge sale at the store for some products and many of them were lipsticks, you couldn’t possibly pass up on this opportunity. you both arrive back in blazewood, giving all of the girls what they requested for. with your own goodies in hand, it was time to do a little try-on to see which ones were worth the money.
back in your room, you began trying each one. swatching them on your hand then on your lips. the colors all looked good on you but there were a few things you couldn’t really test out this way. as if he magically knew, lighter knocked on your door, waiting for your permission before entering.
“burnice told me that there’s another nitro-fu- what are you doing?” he stopped in his tracks as he watched you try to kiss the back of your hand. he was confused at the sight, unsure of how to react. “did i… come at a bad time or is there a problem with my kissing?” he asked bluntly, thinking that there was some sort of explanation as to what you were doing. he didn’t think he was bad at kissing but maybe you were just to nice to tell him?
“oh, no. you’ve come at just the right time. i need to test these out and i think you’re the perfect test subject.” you held out your lipsticks to him and at first, he had flashbacks of when the girls put makeup on him because he lost in a drinking game against burnice. as your lover, he’d do anything you asked but he was ready to raise his hands up in protest to not be embarrassed again.
your smile never faltered though and you could see through his sunglasses. “just sit down and let me kiss you,” you reassured him and just like that, he was sat on the edge of your bed, obediently awaiting your kisses. in the privacy of your room, he could be as unapologetically needy and in love with you without having to act all cool.
your hand felt so gentle on his face, as if you’d hurt him in some way. you pressed a soft kiss on his cheek, the lipstick leaving quite the mark on him. he was a little bummed that it wasn’t on his lips but hey, a kiss is a kiss. you continued peppering his face in kisses, taking a moment between each one to change your lipstick.
he was turning into putty, each kiss made his heart beat faster. he wasn’t sure how many different kinds of lipstick you had, they were all the same to him. by the end of it, his face and neck were practically covered with your kisses. you examined each one carefully, he was beginning to feel a little shy from how close you were to him.
“you’re turning red, lighter. i can’t decide which lipstick looks good if your cheeks are the same shade!” you told him jokingly. this made his blush even worse actually, trying to hide his embarrassment by clearing his throat. “i think you look good in all of them…” he mumbled to himself, knowing that you’d hear it too.
“i want to know which one would look good when i kiss you. i think the third one has the nicest contrast with your hair.” your fingers went up to his hair, twirling it as you took a good look at your ‘masterpiece’. when you kiss him…. his thoughts were everywhere now, just the idea that people know you left those marks on him had his head spinning.
he pulled down his glasses just a little to be able to look at you. “we can always test even more, i’m all yours,” the words fell out of his mouth with no hesitation. both of you had nothing else to do for the rest of the day, there was definitely a lot more of his body that you could try your lipstick on until you were satisfied.

Bucky Barnes x birthday boy reader
This is a special fic for ml and one of my most cherished friends ever, @daydaydayrk420 @6dayday9. I love so much and I hope you have a wonderful year, you mean the world to me and I hope you enjoy your day.
Tumblr media
A Birthday to Remember
It was the evening of your birthday, and the anticipation had been building all day long. The Avengers' compound was unusually quiet, a stark contrast to the usual hustle and bustle of missions, training, and constant banter. You couldn’t help but feel a flutter in your stomach as the day went on, wondering what was in store for you. Bucky had been acting a little more reserved than usual, but you chalked it up to his tendency to get nervous about things like this—especially birthdays.
You had been with the team for a while now, and despite all the chaos that surrounded their world, Bucky had always been someone you could count on. Whether it was during a fight, a late-night conversation, or simply sharing quiet moments, Bucky had always made sure you felt safe, valued, and cared for. And while he had never been good with words, you knew he spoke volumes through his actions.
As the evening sun began to set, you found yourself in the common area, trying to focus on a movie that had been playing. But your mind kept wandering. You couldn’t shake the thought that something was going on behind the scenes—something Bucky was planning, even though he’d been acting suspiciously evasive all day.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and there he was: Bucky Barnes, standing in the doorway, looking both nervous and determined at the same time.
“Hey,” he said softly, his voice a bit raspy. “I, uh... I’ve got something for you.”
Your heart skipped a beat as he stepped into the room, holding something behind his back. The way he looked at you, like he wasn’t sure what to expect, made your stomach flip in the best way. You tried to suppress the smile that was forming, but you couldn't help it.
“You didn’t have to do anything, Buck,” you replied, your voice full of warmth.
He smiled sheepishly, stepping closer. “I wanted to. Trust me.”
With a dramatic flourish, Bucky pulled out a small, wrapped box from behind his back, handing it to you with both hands. You raised an eyebrow but accepted it with a soft chuckle.
“What is this?” you asked, tearing off the wrapping paper.
Inside was a sleek, silver bracelet, with a charm in the shape of a small shield—the symbol of your team. It was understated yet meaningful, just like Bucky himself. You could tell that a lot of thought had gone into it. It was simple, but it felt personal.
“Bucky, this is—” You paused, overwhelmed by the gesture. “It’s perfect.”
His smile softened, and he looked down for a moment, almost shy. “I thought it would remind you that you’re part of this family. You know, you’ve done a lot for all of us. For me. I wanted to do something... meaningful.”
You reached out, pulling him into a tight hug, the warmth of his body melting away any lingering tension. You could feel his heartbeat against your chest, a steady rhythm that calmed you, grounding you in the moment.
“Thank you,” you whispered into his ear, the words filled with more emotion than you could express. “I really... I really appreciate it.”
Bucky pulled away slightly, his hands still resting on your shoulders, his eyes searching yours. There was a tenderness there that made your heart ache.
“I’m glad you like it. I wanted today to be special for you,” he said quietly, his voice low.
“It already is, Buck. Being with you... is all I could ever ask for.”
He paused for a moment, his eyes flicking to the ground before looking back at you with a mischievous glint. “Well, if you think that’s special, wait until I show you what else I’ve got planned for you tonight.”
Your heart raced a little, your curiosity piqued. “What do you mean?”
Bucky smirked, giving you a wink. “Follow me.”
You raised an eyebrow but followed him down the hall, your mind racing with possibilities. The moment you entered the private lounge area, you froze. The room was dimly lit, soft fairy lights strung across the walls, casting a gentle glow. The scent of your favorite food lingered in the air, and a small table was set for two, complete with candles.
Your breath caught in your throat as you took in the sight, realizing just how much effort Bucky had put into this.
“Bucky... you didn’t have to do all this,” you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
Bucky turned to face you, the light from the candles dancing in his eyes. “I wanted to. You deserve to feel special.”
As you both sat down at the table, the conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and stories from both of your pasts. But there was something unspoken between you—an undeniable connection that only grew stronger with each passing minute.
After dinner, Bucky surprised you again by pulling out a small cake, decorated with a simple, yet sweet "Happy Birthday" message. The frosting was a little uneven, but that only made it feel more genuine. You shared a quiet moment as you blew out the candles, feeling a sense of warmth and contentment settle over you.
The night went on, and the two of you found yourselves on the balcony, overlooking the compound grounds. The stars were bright, and the cool night air brushed against your skin.
Bucky stood next to you, his shoulder lightly grazing yours. “So, uh... you’re okay with how the day went?” he asked, his voice a little more uncertain than usual.
You looked over at him, taking in his dark eyes and the way his hair fell just so. The man who had become so much more than just a teammate—a friend, a confidant, someone who made you feel like you belonged in a world that often felt too big to navigate alone.
“I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way, Buck,” you said softly. “Thank you. Really.”
He gave you a soft, genuine smile, a smile that made your heart swell. “You deserve it. More than you know.”
As the night continued, it wasn’t about grand gestures or extravagant surprises. It was about the quiet moments, the shared glances, and the feeling of being truly seen by the person who meant the most to you.
And for the first time in a long while, you realized that this birthday—this simple, quiet evening—was the most special one yet.
THE END

my gremlin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary . minjeong gets mad at y/n, so they give her space. but minutes later, she's grumpily dragging them back to bed because she hates sleeping alone. y/n teases her, but when she mumbles, "i don't need space, i need you," they shut up real quick.
pairing . winter x gender neutral reader
Tumblr media
it starts with minjeong being mad. y/n has no idea why, but she's glaring, arms crossed, sitting on the bed like some angry little gremlin. y/n, being the smart person they are, decides to give her space.
"alright, i'll sleep on the couch—"
"good."
okay. damn. y/n doesn't even argue, just nods and grabs a pillow before heading out. they don't even make it ten minutes on the couch before they hear footsteps. fast, irritated ones.
then suddenly— y/n's pillow is yanked away.
"what—"
"come back to bed," minjeong grumbles, standing over them with the meanest pout y/n has ever seen.
y/n raises a brow. "i thought you wanted space?"
her glare intensifies. "i don't need space, i need you."
y/n.exe has stopped working. they sit there, processing, while minjeong aggressively yanks at their wrist like they weigh nothing. they barely manage to stand before she's dragging them back to bed, throwing the blanket over them like she's tucking in a damn burrito.
y/n can't help but tease. "soooo, you missed me?"
"shut up."
"you love me?"
"shut up."
"you—"
minjeong physically muffles them with her hand.
but her face is buried in their chest now, and y/n feels the way she clings tighter, how her fingers grip the fabric of their shirt, how she exhales like she finally feels at home.
y/n just smiles, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head. "love you too, gremlin."
minjeong huffs. but her hold tightens.
minutes pass, but neither of them sleep. minjeong shifts, grumbling, pressing her face even more into y/n's warmth like she's trying to merge into their existence.
"why were you even mad?" y/n murmurs, running a hand up and down her back.
minjeong goes silent. then mumbles, "forgot."
y/n snorts. "seriously?"
"mhmm."
silence. then—
"...but you still left."
y/n stills. minjeong's voice is small, almost embarrassed, but y/n hears it clear as day. they tilt their head down, trying to get a look at her face, but minjeong buries herself even deeper into their chest like a damn mole.
"well, you told me to go," y/n hums, their tone softer now.
"you're not supposed to listen to me."
y/n bites back a laugh. "so, if i stayed, what would you have done?"
silence. then a grumble. "kicked you."
y/n finally laughs, full and bright, and minjeong glares up at them, her cheeks just the tiniest bit pink. but y/n just cups her face, thumb rubbing gently over her cheekbone, their teasing replaced with something much softer.
"i won't leave again," y/n murmurs. "even if you kick me."
minjeong just stares for a second, eyes flickering between theirs like she's memorizing everything. then, quietly, she leans up, pressing the softest kiss to y/n's jaw before hiding again.
"...okay."

An Elven Winter
CW: None! Arranged marriage, very cozy very comfy, winter nights, grossly affectionate moments
Synopsis: You’re late for dinner with your brawny elf husband, again. Is he going to scold you this time, and live up to his name as a heartless elf?
Tumblr media
A/N: Your favorite boy Cirdan is back! Here's the OG piece I wrote with him if anybody wants some more comfort and cuteness.
Snowflakes whipped from the left across your face, illuminated by dampened yellow street lanterns with an icy blue tinge to their miniscule edges. The cold stuck to your eyelashes, to the tip of your nose, to the bottoms of your trudging boots.
When was the last time it snowed this hard? Not in years, certainly. Not since you began to share your home with another warm body, waiting to welcome you home away from the chills seeping into the openings of your sleeves. You could see your home only two doors down now, the front bathed by hanging porch lights, a trellis covered with dead vines propped against the dark, unlit corner of the cabin. Everyday he’d water that thing, and everyday it’d continue to shrivel under the coldening wind.
Your face creases with concern for what your spouse's reaction may be once you make it home. He might fawn over every trickle of water that was once snow on your shoulders, fraught by the coldness of your fingertips in his palms. It wasn’t his worry that was exhausting, it was the fear of making him feel anything other than glowing warmth, of adoration for you.
Your feet slid over one another racing to the front doors in a jog. Another wave of guilt washed over you for the tenth time tonight for being, what was it now-- an hour late to dinner? How your lovely, saint of a husband worked endlessly to make your homestead full of comfort and homeliness-- and yet you couldn’t make it in time for a meal he had spent endlessly curating. You would beat yourself over the head if you had a moment to spare.
But there was nothing you could do to turn back the time, to slide any quicker on the glassy, frozen ground. Tripping to race up to the door, you fumbled over stone steps in impatience.
The delicately carved door handle was just as cold as the tip of your nose was, hardly putting up a fight as you pulled it toward you. The door opened with a breeze of thick comfort blowing against exposed skin unveiled on your body. Warmth and the smell of a working oven flooded to the points of your cheeks, the door’s creaky nature betraying you as it let the other resident of the house know of your return home.
This would be the part where you shout “Honey, I’m home!”
But you’re given no time, no time at all. A crackling fire fills your ears, the sudden appearance of a dastardly large silhouette clouding your vision of the kitchen table, plates upon plates decorating a tablecloth you knew so well.
“It’s nine.” His voice relented, the emotion detected and yet hard to describe as you look up to read his face.
His cheeks are tinted a slight red, as if he had been outside in the cold, waiting for you.
“It is; I’m sorry, Cirdan. I really thought I'd get here sooner, we were trying to wait out the snow. And, well.. That didn’t really do much.”
His eyes were full of thought, expression in their hardened lids and watery irises. Being late for things seemed to be your specialty. It broke your heart into desperate pieces when you saw the look on his face-- hardly concerned with the cold food, but locked on to you to see what had gone wrong, if you were hurt, what he could do to fix it all.
“Don’t apologize. I’m just.. So glad you’re home.” He genuinely sounded relieved, a rough stutter you hadn’t heard in a long time, if not ever before.
His body, so untraditional to what elves were expected to be, came forward to hold you just as gracefully as any normal, lean and tall version of the creature would. But he was all brawn-- a hard and heated rock that snug itself tight against you. A thick hand made its way into your hair to press the top of your head to his pointed nose.
His taut inhale was shaky, white strands of hair much longer than your own crowding your view.
“I was nearly about to go out there and find you myself. It’s no place for you to be, out there in the snow. Cold and alone.”
It sounded as if he had scared himself with anxiety-ridden thoughts about where you were in your tardiness.
“I know.” You muffled against his chest, the wool of his sweater smelling like sweet potatoes and rosemary.
If it were anyone else you’d be embarrassed to press your head deeper, to lean into the touch so clearly full of desire. But you knew no other way to make up for all that you had done. Your briefcase bag fell to the floor, crumpled and forgotten.
The affection was so tender you nearly forgot about the sensation of frostbite clawing at your fingernails and the aching in your stomach. It resounded out in the room with an acidic gurgle, forcing your body to go rigid with a mix of exhaustion and embarrassment.
You could feel the soundless laugh Cirdan let out through the shake in his body-- his warm, scarred arms your safe space. Even the apron two sizes too small on him smelled of sweets. It  hugged him enough for you to feel the ridges underneath his sweater.
“Are you hungry?” He asked, gently releasing you from his stroking bear hug.
“You have to ask?” You mumbled, still somewhat embarrassed by your show of weakness. You were supposed to be the strong one, carrying out the toughness of reality and endless meetings between the human and elven realm, while your unconventional elf husband finally had a chance in his brutality to rest, to be easy and let his heart and scars heal. But you were only human.
“I kept it warm for you, wasn’t sure when you’d be back.”
Your chest ached at those words.
You were tempted to let out another ‘you don’t have to do that’ or ‘you should’ve just left it in the fridge’, but it would only serve to dishearten him even more.
“Thank you,” Was all you could half-heartedly murmur, looking up to stare at him.
His hair fell sloppy along his face, snowy locks hiding his grey, blinded eye. He had started letting it show in privacy, when scrubbing the stove oven or reading in his colossal wine-red chair, black specs you called his ‘old man glasses’ falling off his nose. You pushed the heavy strands behind his pointed ear, letting your hand slide down the curve of his jaw.
Cirdan merely smiled longingly, crinkling at his eyes and gazing at you as if you were all the stars in the sky held in front of him. He leaned just slightly into your touch, its coldness offering a stark contrast to his warm, honey skin.
“Go, sit by the fire. I’ll bring your dinner.”
You were again ready to protest, but an intensely soft fleece blanket was draped over your head, covering from your forehead to your calves. It was originally made for your husband, twice any human’s size and still long enough to cover his shoulders. Cirdan had turned to the loveseat beside him to grab it, leaving you to buckle under the weight of swarms of fabric as he moved toward the kitchen. Blindly, you made your way to the orange glow in the middle of the room, bright flames caressing freshly chopped oak.
The corners of your home closest to the outside world had a chilled air of ice, but within the middle was where the heat resided, beckoning you to the fireplace onto a small elk hide rug.
Cirdan’s footsteps upon the soft kitchen floor came toward you, steam rising from the plate held in his hands. He seemed so relaxed, shoulders drooped and yet posture enviously perfect, an effect of having an elven spine and ruthless upbringing. His loose sweater was soft on his carved shoulders, reminding you of your shared cozy bed-- of his body radiating glowy warmth against you, rustling sheets tangled as you push deeper against the crook of his neck.
But your stomach was too insatiable for anything other than food right now, even warmth. The herby, peppery scent brought drool to your mouth, looking at the elf with wide eyes in hungry desperation.
“It’s hot, let it cool off for a second.” Cirdan blows on the mouth-watering food as he hands the plate to you with a potholder on its lip, protecting you from the heat. He is quick to grab a pillow and place it in your lap, gently letting the plate rest.  “I kind of went overboard; something in me felt like cooking tonight... We can give the leftovers to the neighbors.”
“No!” You shout territorily, covering your plate as if he were ready to steal it from you. “It's mine to eat, I mean.”
You don’t leave room for the conversation to continue, shoveling a forkful of well-seasoned vegetables in your mouth. The moment a green bean touches your tongue you realize your mistake.
“Haw, hawt!”
Your open mouth does a dance as you try to fan the heat, so eager to eat that you forgot to heed his warning.
“I told you!” Cirdan exclaims, a laugh escaping him as he reaches for a glass of water on the table behind him. “I guess my intuition knew you’d try something like that.”
You take the glass with unheeded swiftness, letting lukewarm water settle in your fiery mouth.
A hesitant swallow leaves your tongue numb and your hunger yet to be filled.
You reach for another bite, this time for a heap of buttery mash potatoes, soft and fluffy like the piles of snow outside yet starkly contrasted in their steamy heat.
You know better now, blowing on the fork before taking a hesitant, small bite.
Cirdan merely gives you a watchful, entertained grin. He doesn’t have the pompous smirk of most elves you’ve met with, but instead a full, close-lipped smile that reaches to his sharp eyes, his uncharacteristically full cheeks rising, his face slim and etched like the rest of his kind yet with more ruggedness and expression in it, remnants of a jagged past etched into his skin.
“I’th really good.” You cover your full mouth, singing his praises with potato and sweet, savory bread in between.
“I’m glad you like it,” The comment he passes hardly utters any attention to what you say, instead busy watching you consume like a ravenous animal. Cirdan brushes back hair that falls close to your plate, stroking just gently a thumb over your cheek.
You swallow a few more bites before you feel the ache in your stomach subside. The intense way the elf keeps looking at you is not unforeign, but you still have yet to be comfortable with it.
“Thank you for the food,” You wipe your mouth with your sleeve, hoping you weren’t too many levels of disheveled. “but, I have another favor to ask.”
“Hm?”
You witness in his eyes the willingness, eagerness to see what you desire.
“Let me brush your hair?”
Cirdan’s lips part in an ‘o’, before returning to the usual gentle hardness of his face.
“That’s all? I thought you were ready for dessert.”
The elf lets out a stifled laugh, deep and bouncing off the small cabin walls in pure delight.
You shoot a self-conscious gaze at him, lips half upturned in a hidden smile; you’re not sure whether to laugh or bashfully tell him nevermind.
“You know you don’t have to ask. I was waiting until you were done to clean myself up--” He turns to the side, opening a stool compartment stuffed with a myriad of little things from nail polish to old lighters. His gentle hands searched for a delicate hairbrush, elven in the intricacy of its design and dwarven in its robusticity. The curving vines against the brushes ivory skin along with its weighty hold made it a piece of craftsmanship worthy of generational pass-down.
He takes your plate fit for kings off of your lap, moving it to the floor closest to the fireplace. In this house, everytime you attempt to do something, it seems to be done at-hand immediately before you can think to move.
Cirdan wordlessly hands you the brush, tender fire under his palm gliding over the icicles you called fingers.
You attempt to scoot behind him, blanket nearly falling from your shoulders to do so, but the elf catches you.
“I’m not letting you freeze to death on my behalf first,” He grunts, grabbing your hands in a chokehold. “You're practically frozen my love.”
The tendrils of his fingers wrapping over your own were akin to hot coils, oddly welcoming and conflicting to your body void of warm blood.
“Your behalf? I’m the one who suggested the idea!” You shake your head in mild disbelief. “Besides, being near the fire is warming me up. I’ll be unfrozen soon.”
Your airy voice is sarcastic and not nearly as teeth-chattering as it once had been-- yet still, Cirdan huffed over your fingertips, letting out heavy breaths to warm the parts of you that were yet to be anything but icy.
“You aren’t going to win this fight.” He looked up at you, a serious furrow of his brows, “I won’t lose you to such simplicities of frostbite, you’re too precious.”
Oof. Right in the heart. Everytime you see his resting brooding face like that your chest lurches in worry--- but then he’ll say something so sweet in sincerity that you want to collapse into a puddle.
You open and close your mouth like a gaping fish, unsure what to say to beat, or even match that.
The elf deeply exhales once more against your trembling fingers, letting silence float between you with the sound of crackling flames flickering in between.
With a final heavy breath against your knuckles, he straightens your fingers out, placing them over his heated cheeks. Even with the ridges of bone and scar on his face, he was squishy and pliant like a human. Your thumb brushed against the healed tissue leading from the bridge of his nose to his blinding eye, relishing in the slow blinks he gave. He looked… tired, and yet full of comforting bliss. You break the silence with an anxious swallow.
“I can't believe this.. you should be scolding me, making me eat cold leftovers in a dark room for being late, once again. Instead you're welcoming with open arms and a full stomach? I just don't get you; I don't know if I ever will.”
You smile a little sadly, grateful and mystified.
“Maybe you won't understand it,” Cirdan moves his lips to your palm, nudging it with a kiss. “but it's what I'd want.”
You did understand that. All those nights he laid in the cold snow after throwing himself against battalions as a living shield, coming home to an even colder room, eating alone and wondering if anyone was thinking of him. If he meant anything more than a body to be used. He wouldn't let you feel that way, if he could help it.
You nuzzled so hard against his face it made you both scrunch up your noses.
“Oh I just-- wish I could stick you in my pocket and never let you go-- never let you feel anything but warmth and softness and love again.”
Cirdan grinned, his expression practically basking in the adoration.
“You don’t know how good it feels to hear you say that.”
You kiss him rough, not caring if the temperature difference sparks you both, making your noses tingle with electricity and your lips buzz. With gentle encouragement your hands holding his face might lead elsewhere, but tonight you wanted to show him the chaste devotion, the love he deserved in any way you knew how. Cirdan was fervent with his kiss, though he still seemed concerned with your warmth as his hands searched blindly for the blanket slipping from your back.
You roll your eyes, letting your lips fall away with a warm breath. You're quick to get back to what you want, the task at hand.
“We're getting off track-- will you let me brush your hair now? I promise I won't freeze you with my icicle fingers.”
You drum your fingers against the sides of his cheeks, watching as he reaches for the forgotten brush on the rug, slightly dazed. You leave the tepidness of his face to snatch it with playful ease, ushering him to turn around.
“All right, all right, my love,” He concedes with a sigh. “Whatever you desire.”
You grasp the edges of his messy hair as he faces away from you, pulling out the slipping black elastic band to let the rest of it fall; It’s gently knotted at the tips, but the rest of it still holds a sleek shine created from fine, thick strands and patient washing.
“It’s my turn to take care of you..” You mumble, holding a fistful of silvery white strands with a calm stroke of the brush. The rhythm lulls you into a peacefulness, listening to the flickers of fire in front of you, the gentle snowfall from outside your little world of warmth and coziness. The blanket falls to your elbows-- you don’t go to fix it, so enraptured with the task at hand.
Cirdan begins to hum just the slightest, his eyes shut in a stoney, calm expression that you can see if you tip just slightly sideways. It was a solemnly elven tune, and yet it slowed your heart so simply that you felt a wash of nostalgia and ease run through you.
You would trade anything to keep this December night going, to have the man in front of you, held in your arms forever. Cirdan’s warmth was inseparable from your own, your bodies impossibly close for comfort.

you hated your job.
every day felt like an endless loop of emails, meetings, and deadlines that only seemed to multiply. the worst part? the clients. no matter how much effort you put in, someone always found something to complain about.
"can you believe this?" your coworker, jaehyun, groaned as he dropped into the chair beside your desk. running a frustrated hand through his hair, he glared at his laptop screen. "i spent two weeks on that pitch, and the client rejected it in five minutes. five. freaking. minutes."
you sighed, barely looking away from your own stack of unfinished work. "sounds about right. did they at least give you a reason?"
"oh, the usual: ‘not what we’re looking for,’ ‘we need something fresh,’ ‘we’ll get back to you.’" he mimicked their voices with a scoff. "they won’t."
"of course they won’t." you leaned back in your chair, rubbing your temples. "i don’t even know why we try anymore."
jaehyun huffed in agreement, shaking his head. there was no point in trying to convince these people. they had already made up their minds, always chasing something better.
he was about to launch into another rant when movement across the office caught your eye.
winter.
she stood from her desk, stretching slightly before picking up her cup and making her way to the break room. a gray cardigan draped over a crisp white button-down, tucked neatly into a black skirt that ended just above her knees. her long, blonde hair framed her face perfectly; her smile was soft and sweet.
you could watch her all day.
"are you even listening?" jaehyun’s voice snapped you back to reality.
"what?" you turned to him, blinking.
he sighed. "never mind. i gotta get back to work anyway. this pitch isn't going to fix itself."
you barely heard him. pushing back from your desk, you stood up, your feet already moving in the direction winter had gone.
the break room was quiet when you stepped inside, the steady hum of the coffee machine filling the space. she was alone, stirring sugar into her tea, her eyes focused on the swirling liquid in her cup.
you glanced at her, humming out a tune to break the silence. winter glanced at you through her lashes, watching you reach for a mug, but before you could pour your coffee, winter’s fingers wrapped around your wrist, pulling you gently toward her. you stumbled, nearly crashing into her.
she steadied you with a quiet laugh, her eyes twinkling as she met your gaze. "we have ten minutes before anyone starts wondering where we are," she whispered.
"then we better make it count."
her lips met yours in a fleeting kiss—soft at first, then deeper, more urgent. her hands were everywhere—pulling at your tie, gripping your waist, threading into your hair. a quiet moan slipped past your lips as she kissed you harder, hungrier. it was too much and not nearly enough all at once.
"someone's impatient today," you teased, pulling back to catch your breath.
she giggled. "can you blame me? it's been three whole days."
your mind thought back on three days ago.
winter's hands were tangled in your hair, her bottom lip caught between her teeth, trying desperately to stay quiet. she glanced around the office before settling her gaze back on you. your head was deep into her lap, your mouth buried between her legs, your tongue teasing her clit underneath her desk.
her grip on your hair tightened, her eyes closing briefly as she fought to keep her composure. you couldn't help but feel a little bit pleased with yourself—you knew that she only got this impatient when she really, really wanted you. to risk you going down on her in the middle of the office, mid-workday, where anyone could walk in and catch the two of you.
a low moan escaped her lips, and you pulled back slightly, just enough so that your words wouldn't be muffled. "shhh, you have to be quiet."
"i'm trying," she whispered, her hips bucking against your face.
"trying" didn't seem like it was quite cutting it. she was squirming in her chair, her grip on your hair getting tighter with each passing second. "we really shouldn't be doing this here," you murmured, but you didn't give any sign of actually making a move to stop.
"you're just too tempting," she responded, her voice barely above a whisper, her legs trying in vain to close around your head.
"can't blame you for that," you murmured back. "doesn't mean we shouldn't be a little more careful, though…"
her eyes darted briefly around the office again, everyone too involved in their own work at their own cubicles to notice the illicit activity happening right under their noses. the risk of getting caught was still very real, and winter knew she should care, but she was way too far gone.
"it's hard to be careful when you're doing... that," she whined, her eyes fluttering shut as you went back to work.
winter's tongue pressed against yours, hot and insistent, and you felt a rush of desire course through you. it was so easy for her to push all the right buttons. "how much time do we have left?" you asked, pulling back slightly.
"six minutes," she breathed, guiding your hand to the waistband of her skirt.
six minutes. not a lot of time, but definitely enough.
you smiled wickedly, your fingers trailing along the edge of her skirt for a moment before sliding underneath it. she gasped softly, her eyes darkening with anticipation as you leaned in to kiss her again.
you could feel the heat radiating off her body as your fingers brushed against her bare skin. she was so responsive, so reactive, and you knew that you could make her come undone with just a few well-placed touches.
"i think i can make that work," you murmured, your hand creeping higher, higher, higher, until it was resting at the edge of her underwear.
her hips bucked involuntarily towards your hand, a desperate whine escaping her lips. you chuckled, your fingers tracing slow, teasing circles on her skin.
"someone's impatient," you teased, your mouth moving to her neck. you could feel her pulse racing under your lips, her breathing ragged and uneven.
"don't have all day, you know," she protested, her words at odds with the way her body was melting into yours. her hands clutched at your shirt, trying to pull you closer.
you pulled back from her, your fingers leaving her skin, and she let out a sharp gasp. before she could complain, you brought your middle and ring fingers to her mouth. she understood immediately, her lips parting and her tongue darting out to meet them.
you watched her suck on your fingers, her eyes locked on yours, and your heart skipped a beat. "fuck, you're gorgeous," you breathed, the way she was looking at you, like nothing else existed in the world except the two of you, was intoxicating.
she blushed at the praise but didn't stop. your fingers slid in and out of her mouth, and she sucked on them eagerly, her tongue swirling around them.
winter could feel herself getting wetter by the second, her thighs rubbing together impatiently.
once you were satisfied with her work, you pulled your fingers out of her mouth with an audible pop, a thin trail of saliva connecting them to her lips. she let out a disappointed sigh, her lips already swollen and parted, begging for more.
you leaned in, whispering in her ear, "i bet you're already dripping wet."
winter's breath hitched. she knew that you could always tell when she was turned on, and you were right—she was practically aching for you, desperate to feel your fingers inside her.
you didn't waste any time, bringing your hand back under her skirt and pushing aside the fabric of her panties. winter inhaled sharply as your fingers brushed over her clit, her eyes falling closed.
"so ready for me," you cooed, sliding your middle finger between her folds. "so wet."
she shuddered, her hips rolling forward involuntarily, seeking more friction. "please," she whimpered, her hands fisting in your shirt.
you loved how responsive she was, how easily you could make her fall apart. you leaned forward, capturing her lips in a heated kiss as you eased your finger inside her. winter moaned into your mouth, her walls clenching around you.
"quiet, baby," you reminded her, curling your finger and finding that spot deep inside her.
the possibility of getting caught in the break room was surprisingly low. tucked away in the farthest corner of the office, it was separated from the main workspace by a frosted glass wall and a door that locked from the inside.
wait…did you lock the door?
maybe. maybe not.
she nodded weakly, her nails dug into your shoulders as she struggled to keep her composure, her breath coming in shallow gasps. you added a second finger, pumping them in and out of her at a relentless pace, your thumb brushing against her clit.
"fuck, baby," you groaned, pressing her harder against the counter. you could feel her body shaking beneath yours, her orgasm approaching fast. "you're so close, aren't you?"
winter could only nod, her hips bucking against your hand, trying to get as much friction as possible. She was close, so fucking close, and you could tell. the way her breathing hitched, her nails digging into your shoulder, the way her thighs squeezed together, trying to relieve the tension.
"i can feel it, baby. come for me."
she cried out, her body going rigid, her walls clenching around your fingers as she came. her eyes rolled back, her mouth open in a silent scream, her legs threatening to give out. you kept stroking her through her orgasm, prolonging the pleasure as long as possible, until she was trembling and weak.
"f-fuck," she whimpered, her head resting against your shoulder.
You chuckled, removing your fingers from her and licking them clean. "you okay?"
"more than okay," she said, a satisfied grin spreading across her face.
you couldn't resist stealing one last kiss before pulling away. she looked completely fucked out, her hair disheveled and her cheeks flushed. "better get back to work before anyone misses us."
"i guess," she said, pouting a little.
"we can continue this later," you assured her, fixing her clothes and smoothing down her hair.
she grinned, reaching for your hand and giving it a squeeze. "it's a date."

The hum of the compound is familiar by now. Machines whir softly in the background, the faint scent of coffee lingers in the air, and somewhere in the distance, you can hear Sam and Tony bickering over something that probably doesn’t matter. This is home—at least, as close as it gets. It wasn’t always, but things changed. The world changed, and you had to change with it.
Being here is better than being out there. You know that much. The compound is safer. It’s structured. Sure, it’s a little weird living with a bunch of Avengers, but it beats the alternative. When SHIELD fell apart, a lot of things got messy, including your life. No family, no place to go, just a kid caught in the middle of something bigger than them. Steve found you first, said they’d figure something out, and now, somehow, you’ve ended up here. Officially, you’re under the Avengers’ protection. Unofficially, you’re the compound’s resident stray.
“Alright, what is it this time?”
Bucky’s voice pulls you out of your thoughts, and you glance up from where you’ve been hunched over the kitchen counter, fidgeting with a fresh roll of stickers. He’s standing in the doorway, arms crossed, looking at you with an exasperated sort of fondness.
You grin. “You make it sound like I’ve done something bad.”
He raises an eyebrow. “Haven’t you?”
“Depends on your definition of ‘bad,’” you say, tearing off a small sticker shaped like a cat. Without hesitation, you reach out and press it to the cool vibranium of his forearm. It sticks perfectly, just like you knew it would.
Bucky sighs like a man who has known deep suffering. “Why do you keep doing this?”
“Because you let me,” you answer simply, peeling off another sticker—this one shaped like a tiny watermelon slice—and placing it beside the first.
It’s true. You started doing this months ago, fully expecting him to shut it down after the first few times. He never did. The first time, it had been a dumb impulse, something to break the tension. You’d been talking, and without really thinking about it, you’d stuck a star-shaped sticker onto his arm. He’d given you a long, unreadable look but hadn’t peeled it off. That was all the encouragement you needed.
Now, it’s a habit. Every time you see him, you add a new one. Sometimes, he’ll pretend not to notice. Other times, he’ll act put-upon, like he’s carrying some great burden. You know better, though. If he really hated it, he wouldn’t still be standing here, letting you decorate his arm like it’s an elementary school art project.
“I let you do a lot of things,” he mutters, watching as you place a little frog next to the watermelon.
“And that’s why you’re my favorite,” you say, grinning.
“Steve’s gonna be hurt,” he points out.
“Steve’s got enough fans,” you reply, reaching for another sticker. This one’s a smiley face with sunglasses. You stick it on his wrist.
Bucky glances down at his arm, then back at you. His expression softens—just a little. “Y’know, people used to be scared of me.”
“Yeah, well,” you say, adding a rainbow to his forearm, “they clearly weren’t looking hard enough. You’re a giant teddy bear.”
He scoffs, but there’s no real heat behind it. “A ‘teddy bear’ with a metal arm and a kill count.”
“Even teddy bears have claws,” you say, shrugging. “Besides, you let a teenager put stickers on you. That automatically lowers your intimidation factor.”
Bucky huffs but doesn’t argue. You know he won’t take them off. He never does, at least not right away. Sometimes, hours later, you’ll spot him across the compound, still wearing them.
That’s enough for you.
It doesn’t take long for the others to notice.
The first one to point it out is Sam.
You’re both sitting in the common room, Bucky on the couch, you curled up on the opposite end, sorting through a new pack of stickers you got from a store Tony let you raid on a supply run. They’re good ones, too—holographic, shimmery, some even glow in the dark. You’re in the process of carefully placing a tiny raccoon on Bucky’s wrist when Sam strolls in, eyes scanning the room before landing on the two of you.
His brows pull together. “Uh, what the hell is that?”
Bucky, who has clearly mastered the art of selective ignorance, doesn’t look up from his book. You, however, grin and wave. “What’s what?”
“That,” Sam says, pointing at Bucky’s arm like it personally offended him.
Bucky finally sighs, lowering his book just enough to glare over the top of it. “You’re gonna have to be more specific, man.”
Sam narrows his eyes and gestures again. “That. The stickers. What am I looking at?”
You lean back, admiring your work. By now, Bucky’s metal arm is covered in a vibrant mess of stickers—cartoon animals, little hearts, a glittery UFO, and even a miniature Avengers logo you’d snuck in just for fun.
You beam. “Art.”
Sam blinks. He looks at Bucky, then back at you, then back at Bucky. “And you’re just…letting them do this?”
Bucky shrugs. “Yeah.”
Silence. Sam stares, mouth opening and closing like he wants to say something but can’t find the words. Eventually, he just lets out a short, disbelieving laugh. “Man, you really are getting soft.”
Bucky flips him off without looking up.
You take that as permission to add another sticker—a rainbow-colored star, right on his shoulder.
Sam shakes his head, muttering something under his breath before grabbing his drink from the fridge and heading out, still looking vaguely disturbed by what he just witnessed.
Of course, Sam being Sam, the moment he’s out of the room, you know he’s going to tell the others.
The next one to comment on it is Natasha.
You’re sitting at the kitchen counter, helping yourself to a bowl of cereal, when she walks in. She nods at you in greeting before grabbing a protein bar from the cabinet. It’s a normal morning, nothing out of the ordinary—until she glances at Bucky and does a double-take.
She tilts her head slightly. “Did you get in a fight with a Lisa Frank notebook?”
You nearly choke on your cereal.
Bucky, who is now used to this reaction, doesn’t even blink. “No.”
Natasha takes a bite of her protein bar, studying him. “Then why does your arm look like a kindergarten art project?”
Bucky doesn’t answer, so you take it upon yourself. “Because I put them there.”
Natasha arches an eyebrow. “And he let you?”
“Obviously,” you say, popping another spoonful of cereal into your mouth.
She’s quiet for a moment, her sharp gaze flicking from you to Bucky. You half-expect her to make a snarky comment or tease him, but instead, she just hums and says, “Huh.”
And then she reaches into her pocket, pulls out a tiny cat magnet, and sticks it to his forearm before walking away like nothing happened.
Bucky stares after her, brow furrowed. He lifts his arm slightly, looking at the magnet now clinging to the vibranium.
You snort. “You’re officially a walking fridge.”
He groans.
It only gets worse from there.
A few days later, Steve notices.
You’re in the gym, watching Bucky and Steve spar while pretending to be invested in a book. In reality, you’re mostly waiting for them to finish so you can rope Bucky into watching a movie with you.
Steve circles Bucky, eyes narrowed in concentration. He throws a punch, which Bucky easily dodges. There’s a beat of silence before Steve suddenly drops his stance, frowning.
“…Are those stickers?”
Bucky sighs. “Jesus Christ.”
Steve squints, stepping back to get a better look. “They are.” His frown deepens. “And…are those magnets?”
You bite back a laugh.
Bucky glares at you like this is somehow your fault (which, to be fair, it is).
Steve crosses his arms. “You’ve been walking around like this?”
“Yes.”
“And you just…let them do it?”
“Yes.”
Steve blinks, clearly struggling to process this information. You can practically see the gears turning in his head, trying to reconcile the image of his best friend, ex-Winter Soldier, walking around covered in colorful stickers and fridge magnets.
Eventually, he just sighs. “You’re impossible.”
Bucky smirks. “Took you this long to figure that out?”
Steve shakes his head, clearly exasperated, but doesn’t push the subject further.
You take that as a win.
Tony’s reaction is arguably the best.
You’re in the lab with Bucky, keeping him company while Tony messes around with something that looks vaguely explosive. He’s in the middle of rambling about some new upgrade for Bucky’s arm when he abruptly stops mid-sentence.
His eyes narrow. “Hold on.”
Bucky tenses. “What?”
Tony steps closer, squinting at his arm. He lifts a finger and flicks one of the magnets, watching as it wobbles slightly before settling back into place.
“…Are you kidding me?”
Bucky groans. “Not you too.”
Tony bursts out laughing. “Oh, this is rich. You—you’ve been walking around like this? Just letting them stick things to you?”
“Yes,” Bucky says flatly.
Tony looks at you, still grinning. “You did this?”
You nod proudly. “Yep.”
He lets out an impressed whistle. “Wow. I gotta say, Barnes, I didn’t think you had it in you.”
Bucky rolls his eyes. “Are you done?”
Tony pretends to consider. “Nope.”
Bucky mutters something under his breath and turns to leave, but before he can make his escape, Tony suddenly grabs a Stark Industries magnet from his workbench and slaps it onto Bucky’s bicep with a satisfied smirk.
Bucky glares at him. “I hate you.”
Tony winks. “No, you don’t.”
You snicker as Bucky stomps out of the lab, now sporting a Stark-branded magnet.
Despite the teasing, Bucky never takes them off right away.
Sometimes, you’ll catch him absentmindedly running his fingers over a sticker while he’s reading or training. Other times, you’ll see him glance down at his arm, something soft and unreadable in his expression before he quickly schools his face back into neutrality.
You don’t push. You don’t have to.
He lets you do this because he knows it makes you happy. Because he knows it makes you feel safe.
And, maybe—just maybe—because he doesn’t mind it as much as he pretends to.
The stickers—and now magnets—become a daily ritual.
At this point, everyone in the compound has noticed. Clint, predictably, laughs himself half to death when he first sees Bucky with a sparkly unicorn sticker on his wrist. Thor, on the other hand, is completely unbothered. He takes one look, nods approvingly, and later gifts you a set of Asgardian insignia stickers that you immediately slap onto Bucky’s arm. Even Bruce, who usually keeps to himself, quietly asks if he can contribute and hands you a little atom-shaped magnet one afternoon.
Bucky grumbles about it, of course. He sighs dramatically when you press another sticker onto his arm, acts like it’s the greatest inconvenience in the world, but he never actually stops you. He never pulls away. He never tells you no.
And he never takes them off until he’s alone.
You start paying attention, watching him when he thinks no one else is looking. He’ll be in the middle of a conversation, his fingers absentmindedly brushing over the stickers on his forearm, tracing the edges. You notice that he doesn’t cover his arm as much anymore—not as often as he used to. Before, he wore long sleeves even in the middle of summer, like he couldn’t stand the sight of it. Now, he just lets it be.
That realization sits in the back of your mind for a long time.
Then, one day, you ask.
It’s late.
Most of the compound has already turned in for the night. The common room is quiet, dimly lit by the glow of the television, where some old black-and-white movie plays with the volume low. You’re curled up on the couch next to Bucky, a fresh pack of stickers in your lap.
You press a new one onto his arm—a tiny golden retriever wearing sunglasses—before hesitating.
“Hey, Buck?”
He glances down at you. “Yeah?”
You fidget slightly, turning the next sticker over in your hands. “…Why do you let me do this?”
Bucky blinks, like he wasn’t expecting that question. “Huh?”
You gesture vaguely to his arm, now covered in an assortment of colorful stickers and small magnets. “This. Why do you let me put them on you? You could’ve told me to stop. But you didn’t.”
For a moment, he’s quiet. His expression shifts—just a little—but you catch it. A flicker of something uncertain, something careful, like he’s picking his words before speaking.
Then, finally, he exhales.
“…Because it helps.”
You tilt your head. “Helps with what?”
Bucky glances down at his arm, his fingers skimming over the stickers.
“You know what this arm used to be,” he says, his voice quieter than before. “What it used to do.”
You don’t say anything. You don’t need to.
He swallows, his jaw tight. “For a long time, it felt like it didn’t belong to me. Like it was just…a weapon. A part of me that wasn’t really mine.” His fingers brush over the little cartoon raccoon you stuck near his wrist. “But then you started doing this. And…I don’t know. It’s stupid.”
“It’s not,” you say immediately.
He lets out a short, humorless laugh. “Maybe not. But it’s…different, now. When I look at it.” He pauses, then shakes his head. “When I see the stickers, I don’t think about the things I’ve done. I think about you. About Sam rolling his eyes, Nat sneaking magnets onto me, Steve acting like he doesn’t get it even though he does.” His voice softens. “I think about now. Not then.”
You don’t know when your eyes started burning, but suddenly, it’s hard to see. You swallow thickly, trying to blink away the sting.
“Oh,” you say, and it comes out smaller than you meant it to.
Bucky glances at you, eyes sharp. “Hey. Don’t cry on me, kid.”
“I’m not,” you lie, furiously rubbing at your eyes. “It’s just—you just said something really nice, and my dumb emotions weren’t prepared for it.”
Bucky huffs a quiet laugh. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Says the guy covered in stickers,” you sniff, but you’re smiling now, even if your throat is still tight.
Bucky shakes his head, rolling his eyes, but there’s something softer in his expression when he looks at you.
“…Thanks, kid.”
You look up at him. “For what?”
He gestures vaguely at his arm. “This. The stickers. Everything.”
You don’t know what to say to that, so you just grab another sticker and carefully press it onto the back of his hand.
Bucky glances down at it. It’s a tiny heart.
He smiles.

the end of the (red) line
Tumblr media
bucky barnes x steve rogers x gn! reader
synopsis: red string au, in which a thread, invisible to others, tangles you and your soulmate together. you’ve been waiting a long time to meet the person at the other end, the problem is, they keep damaging the thread, leaving you unable to track them down.
warnings: angst (it’s a fic involving bucky, it’s to be expected), fluff, reader is down bad, mentions of death, self loathing, reader is technically an orphan (blame new york not me), big muscly super soldiers !! reader is confident!
word count : 2,928
Tumblr media
this whole red string business had cost you many nights of sleep. all your friends had been lucky, bumping into their supposed soulmate in a store or cafe, or getting a new job and seeing a prominent string dangling from their coworker’s fingers.
see, it isn’t visible at all times, which is arguably less and equally more frustrating. there’s only certain times you can follow it, or tug on it if you’re impatient. there’s a possibility you walk past your fately betrothed and you’ll miss them, because the universe decides you’re not ready.
it’s been five years since it first showed up, looped around your fingers snuggly. it happened after a nightmare, which were all too common. witnessing the attack on new york first hand had been devastating, bodies upon bodies. screams and cries and families torn apart, including your own.
it was just you now, scattered in the vast expanse of the world like a drop in the ocean. friends were distractions, only so much could tackle the constant ebbing and aching deep within your chest. tucked away so far that it was normal, like it had always been there.
it was at a bar when the familiar red showed up, and in frustration, you yanked hard. standing up from the booth with your friends and determinedly walking to try once more. the bond was fickle, or maybe, it was just yours specifically. seemingly disappearing each time some ground was made, like someone had purposely cut it.
you learnt to be fast, coiling the thread and pacing swiftly. weaving through crowded streets on a winter’s eve, eyes narrowed and scrutinising. your lips dried at the cold air, and a small voice reminded you that the jacket you’d been wearing was still slumped in the bar’s booth. was it worth it? getting cold and also getting a dead end?
the trail never seemed to end, with each tug and pull, there was no resistance. leaving a yarn-like pile puddled at your feet. it could’ve been the frustration or exasperation that triggered the next moment, gripping onto the thin crimson and jerking it with every ounce of might you had.
it wasn’t noticeable at first, but steadily a burning littered your palms. for the very first time, you’d gotten rope burn from wrenching the thread.
there was also a man who was distinctively dishevelled, like he’d been displaced.
he was littered in crimson.
not only was it looped around him, it also continued from him. which was just too much to comprehend at the given moment, was it possible to be attached to multiple people?
the man whipped his head up, almost like he’d been shocked, and belatedly met eyes with you. locking with a shudder, his gaze was almost frantic.
at the same time, you both spoke, your voice edging on angry and confused. while the stranger’s seemed unbelievably stunned.
“you!”
in all years of imagining your future partner, you’d never expected them to be so…unfairly attractive. adorned with dull blonde locks, a sharp jaw and icy blue eyes that held a depth you hadn’t prepared for. he was tall, and built, gods he could crush you.
it almost cooled the anger in your veins.
“why did you keep cutting me off?” you snapped, fists clenching from anxiety this time. had they seen you before and decided you weren’t enough? could you be enough? why wait all this time? why sever the connection over and over?
“what?” he breathed, the air in his lungs fled. the blonde’s train of thought was completely dismantled, a flicker of hurt and confusion flooded his face. “that - that wasn’t you?”
Tumblr media
steve still remembers when it appeared. just after his major transformation from frail to superhuman. the sight caused him to stutter, whole body feeling just as weak as he was before. immediately he’d gone to find peggy, hoping it was her, she was breathtaking. first woman to see him as someone, and who looked at him with a hint of softness that he melted for each time.
and he still remembers the way his heart had plummeted upon finding out his newly acquired string was not attached to peggy. it shattered a part of him, he’d never felt like this with anyone before, and yet peggy wasn’t the one. her bold lipstick would not litter his cheeks or lips, her soft yet strong hands would not rest in his own.
it was confusing.
but what was truly heartbreaking was finding out who it was attached to.
after rescuing bucky from hydra and finally having his best friend back, steve thought maybe it would be okay not to know the person on the other side of the string. him and buck would be alright if they had each other, his fondest and happiest of memories included barnes.
on that train, time stopped. bucky dangling from a scrap of metal, steel eyes terrified and begging for steve to haul him back up.
he couldn’t reach him. he tried, god he tried.
the worst part of it all had been seeing glimmering thread falling into the snow with his best friend. he’d found and lost his soulmate - best friend, at the exact same time. it was a good thing to have crashed that jet into the ice, he was content with it. knowing if there was an afterlife, buck would be there with open arms.
but that’s just not how it went.
instead he woke up from a presumably deadly sleep.
all he had ever known was gone, apart from peggy, who after a little while, was gone too.
thread was still attached to him, he felt it, it was heavy, dragging him down in what felt like every step. the weight was there, but he didn’t see it.
not until a masked assassin stood in his path, mask strewn across concrete. his beautiful bucky was alive, and almost unrecognisable with the torment that surrounded him.
he cried that night.
eventually, after he fought through what felt like hell, he’d pulled bucky back from the torturous programming he’d been under. they’d come to realise that their thread, ignited since the 40’s had changed, it went in another direction.
“multiple soulmates huh?” buck realised, if steve was observant enough, he would’ve seen the defeat in his former best friend’s (now lover’s) language.
“i don’t think it will be a bad thing, it’s, exciting.”
bucky’s bit his lip, “maybe.”
Tumblr media
it had taken years to let steve in again. he was on edge all of the time, was real panicky too. spent so much time locked in his room, and went between eating so much his stomach hurt and not having an appetite at all. it felt undeserving to have what he wanted, to have a soulmate, to be potentially happy after what he’d done.
the lives he’d taken.
the guilt had crushed him, and the self hatred never dulled. he didn’t deserve steve, he was too good. too sweet, too soft. too, steve.
when it became clear that someone else was out there, linked to steve and him, he panicked. it had been hard enough coming to terms that steve didn’t hate him, didn’t blame him. no one else could get close, what if he hurt them? what if they took steve?
what if this string thing didn’t work out all the time? everything was fine with steve. he felt safer than ever, with a calm so alien to him.
it wasn’t purposeful, but whenever the other string popped up, every time he went to touch it, it frayed. like the bond didn’t want him.
time after time it dissolved after bucky touched it, no matter how gentle or rough, it vanished. it was humiliating. after a while he just swiped at it whenever it did reappear, wanting it gone. it was just there to insult him. of course it would fray when he touched it, it was naive of him to think that a killer, someone drenched in the blood of others, could be wanted.
steve would disagree of course.
steve loved him with every fibre of his being, so fiercely it was near startling. it was more than he deserved. every embrace was simultaneously his oxygen and his undoing.
captain america was righteous, strong. believed in bucky and nursed him back to ‘health’ as much as he could. rogers was more than a tight suit and a impenetrable shield. he was everything.
he knew that steve was searching for their other, other half. knew that he was excited to meet them, wanted to show bucky that it would be a good thing. steve hadn’t accounted for one thing, bucky’s fear.
bucky was internally petrified of losing his everything.
he swiped at the string over and over, and the guilt was way lesser than the fear.
Tumblr media
the name you’d gotten was steve, which you knew from the moment his trademarked straw hair and ocean eyes filled your vision, you’d quickly texted your friends not to worry.
followed string, please hold onto that jacket, it’s my favourite. i’ll be sad if you lose it :(
he had ordered two coffees, “this may take a while.” the man wrung his hands nervously, it was mildly comforting to know you weren’t the only one with a pounding heart and a sweaty brow.
“you’re different than i thought you’d be.” it had come out in a splutter, scrounging for a conversation, it would be embarrassing to confess you just wanted to hear him talk more.
the raise in his brow only made your heart thud faster, eyes becoming half amused and half apprehensive. “how so? i’m sorry if uh, don’t cut it.”
you had practically interrupted him, “no - you’re just, i mean for one you’re captain america. makes sense why i couldn’t find you, you’ve probably been all over the place.” after years of pondering about your soulmate, finally coming face to face with one of them was exhilarating and overwhelming. and you couldn’t stop talking, spilling too many words. it was a wonder that he kept up. “and secondly, you cut it, how you look is borderline unfair to the general public.”
you had caught him off guard, and his laugh, it came from his chest. deep, rich and warm. “fighting takes you all over. i’m glad - that i cut it. been worrying that you were making it disappear, that you didn’t want to see me - us.”
mid sip, you halted. he drank his own coffee with a small smile. “you uh, know the other one?”
his lips quirked up more, a fondness shining in his pupils, “you could say that.” steve cleared his throat, thumbing the handle of the coffee cup, “i’ve known him my whole life,” he hesitated, “his name is bucky.”
everyone who’d paid attention to the news was aware who this ‘bucky’ was. captain america’s best friend who was taken in by hydra and brainwashed so severely he’d lost himself along the way, who was used as a weapon for a long, long time.
steve was prepared for a bad reaction, people weren’t always understanding when it came to buck. more often than not, they’d call him a killer or become uncomfortable. it made him incredibly protective, and he struggled to stay present in a conversation after judging bucky so poorly.
“you don’t need to be on edge you know.” you spoke, spotting the super soldier’s tense posture. “i know who he is,” you started carefully, sweeping across the expanse of steve’s face, “and anyone with a brain knows what happened to him, is not his fault.”
steve inhaled with a shaky, but relieved breath. “thank yo-“
“you don’t need to,” you cut in, “i’ve been waiting for years, for you, for you both technically.” a blush quickly swarmed your cheeks, and you broke the eye contact between the two of you. the rest of the sentence was silent, but steve would’ve decoded it as: i don’t give up so easily.
being connected by fate to one extremely attractive man was already hard to grasp. but two of them? it was almost sending you to an early grave. it was easy to see just from a small interaction that steve was sweet, protective, handsome and you were bound to him.
“he’s a tough nut to crack.” a part of you laughed at the innuendo, but outwardly, just managed to keep it in. “he’s probably worried, said i’d be back by 5, always make sure im never late.”
“trying to escape already?” you teased, before asking for his number. he fumbled around with his phone, shaking his head at your question. it was slightly endearing how steve’s fingers shook as he pulled up his contact details. despite the pair of you trying to appear confident, you were equally as nervous and giddy.
as soon as you finished inputting the information, the door to the cafe dinged, and in walked the reincarnation of sin itself. brown messy hair and the most hypnotising steel irises. red thread wrapped around the metal of his arm beautifully. you sucked in a breath, not out of fear of who bucky was, but the dawning realisation you were linked with perhaps the prettiest men on earth.
his face was hard set, pulled taut and serious. clinically, and methodically, he swept over the cafe until he found his target. the tension from the man visibly eased, enough so that he didn’t even clock the person sitting across from steve. who, if he had noticed, was staring at him unashamedly.
“it’s 6, you’re never late.” bucky narrowed his stare pointedly, quickly checking to see if steve was perhaps held back by an injury. when he found nothing, he almost looked offended.
steve’s lids fluttered at the timbre of his partners voice greeting him, “mhm.” amusement quickly overcame his expression, “well, i was busy.”
“busy with what?” bucky almost growled, frowning at the pleased glint present in steve’s pupils, and how his partner seemed smug. he was happy about not coming home? he’d been waiting at home like a damn dog, until noticing the string and following it to steve like he was on a mission. steve shifted to look at you, and couldn’t help the smile that burst from him. oh you were perfect. not afraid or judgmental of bucky at all, you instead looked all but ready to devour the ex assassin.
at steve’s silence, and sudden interest looking at something else, bucky cranked his head to the side. all words dying on his tongue the second he caught onto you, the string cocooning you and your ecstatic half crinkled eyes. “oh.”
“oh.” steve echoed with a poorly hidden smirk, anxiety tugging at his chest, waiting to see how bucky would react. it all depended on this moment.
it was basically a staring contest with the amount of eye contact between the two of you. it was like bucky was searching for something within you, trying to dig into your core and assess what laid there. “this is an acceptable reason for being late.” and with that, he turned away.
steve sighed exasperated, “i’m sorry for him, that, that was rude buck.” back in the 40’s bucky was an unrivalled gentleman, polite to women and men alike. he was guarded, too much so. steve had desperately wanted to forge a connection with their third partner, and didn’t expect bucky to seem almost against it.
“don’t apologise for me.” he withheld a small scowl, flicking back and forth between steve and you. it didnt deter you, rationally maybe it should have, but you waited 5 years. you’d be damned if you gave up on the first hurdle. steve had said he was a ‘tough nut to crack’, so cracked he would be.
“it’s alright,” you waved steve’s concern off, “it’s good to meet you, years of waiting was worth it.” you raised your hand expectantly, bucky hesitated, until stubbornly wrapping his metal fingers around your flesh ones. the lack of alarm or fright from touching the metal limb had him faltering.
you truly weren’t affected by him or the history and baggage he carried.
with a confidence you weren’t sure you had, you leant closer, heart hammering at a speed that felt dangerous. slowly, and tentatively, you placed a tender kiss upon the back of the silver hand. bucky’s reaction was a sucked in breath and a sharp twitch in the prosthetic limb. it was almost as if he’d felt the sensation coursing through him. “i am sorry for keeping your partner, do forgive me.”
“i’ll think about it.” his stoic facade bled at the edges, challenged by the smallest lopsided lift of his lips. “here again, tomorrow at 2.” he all but demanded, pulling away and walking towards steve.
“bucky! you can’t just - buck!” the blonde groaned, jumping at bucky interlinking their hands and dragging him away. before he was completely swept, steve fumbled through his wallet and laid money on the table for the coffees, “i hope tomorrow at 2 is convenient.”
“i’ll think about it.” you replied, slyly laughing at steve before he disappeared through the glass cafe door.
there was no doubt about it, they would cram into every space hidden within your head, without any resistance. one interaction with them both, and you were a goner.
you leant into your hands, muffling the borderline painful grin painted on your face. after a moment, you turned on your phone, sending the fastest text.
you are never going to believe this, i’m coming back for my jacket, and for drinks.
your index hovered over the new contact in your phone, and before you could think it through, you typed away.
you both cut it ps. do you or bucky want flowers or chocolates?
Tumblr media
a/n: so i started this fic today, and it was meant to be a very short one, more of a drabble than anything. i’ve become more attached than initially expected, and it became a longer fic. divider credits are me just in case anyone was about to ask about them, i might post them!! i think i need some more to do a batch though.
i don’t normally see more confident readers/a mix of flustered and confident, and i’m not sure how well received it will be because of that. i hope there’s people that can appreciate a cheeky hand kiss and a little bit of flustered steve and bucky. reader would spoil them both, gifts and open affection, would be so supportive and protective, steve and bucky would end up so possessive of them in return.
i hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as i did writing it !! merry early christmas <33

Not many people know what to do when there's a strange man in their kitchen. The usual ports of call, according to life and TV, is to:
a. Scream
b. Call the cops
c. Hide
d. All of the above
But somehow you created your own special fifth option (hereby referred to as option e): Give him soup.
He pokes at the soup with his spoon and you watch him over your own bowl. You can't tell if he's about to burst into tears or dart off into the night. There's something about his eyes, something that tells you he's a lost, stray in need of food and probably a hot bath rather than a six foot lug of a man in tac gear.
After a particularly hot slurp of soup, doing the whole hoo-ha-ooh charade, he looks up at you.
"Sorry," You mumble with an apologetic look. "Hot."
He nods but doesn't say anything. So, he clearly understands English. You watch as he stirs his soup again before finally bringing it to his lips. The air is heavy. You don't know why you care about what he thinks of your soup, but you do.
You want to make a joke; asking him not to kill you if it's awful but you think better of it. You still don't know if he would kill you.
His hum catches you off guard and you jump, looking over at him. His eyes flutter, and you think he definitely will cry. He sniffs a few times and raises a shaky hand with a second spoonful again, before he's suddenly gorging the soup.
His spoon clatters against an empty bowl and he looks over at you worriedly and you just smile at him around your own spoon.
"Want seconds, sweetheart?" You ask gently, getting to your feet and angling yourself to the stove. You're face is blasted with the smells of basil, garlic and roasted tomato as you lift the lid from the pot. You hold out a hand for his bowl which he carefully hands to you.
Ladling the soup to the brim (thank God for Bulk Soup Sundays), you reach into the bread bin and butter two slices of bread, placing them next to his soup when you set the bowl down. Retaking your seat, attempting to finish your own bowl, you watch him curiously.
He mumbles a thank you as he tears into the bread with his teeth, and you offer a warm smile.
"No worries. Help yourself to as much as you need."
You had the strangest feeling like your life was going to change, thanks to the stranger before you. Although, you didn't know just how much.

Kim Minjeong x Reader
a/n: I just have Rosé’s album on repeat and I can’t get this out of my head. I'm sorry, I know it's Christmas 😭
thank you @rd0265667 and @seullovesme for going over this first. mwa!
Tumblr media
Minjeong woke up from a fitful sleep. It's been days since she's been like this, a heavy pit in her stomach whenever she wakes up. She looks over to where you are sleeping turned away from her. You were in the same bed and yet you seem so far away from each other. With a heavy sigh she got out of bed and started to get ready for the day.
Unbeknownst to Minjeong, you have been awake too. In fact, you haven't slept for days since you felt something shift in your relationship but you kept it all to yourself. You found yourself just watching her sleep sometimes seeing how peaceful she is and you wish nothing more for her to always have that kind of peace even as you swallow a lump forming in your throat and tears forming in your eyes. You made yourself smaller on your side of the bed when you felt her move and pretended to sleep. It was easier that way. You didn't wanna see her pretend to be okay this early in the morning, as much as you can, you'd give her space.
When Minjeong was dressed and ready to go, she stood by the door of your bedroom looking at you curled up on the bed. She doesn't know how to feel or what to do so she just looked at you for a little while more before eventually deciding to go near you.
You heard her footsteps coming and you were surprised but tried to breathe evenly. You didn't want to move 'cause you didn't wanna startle her and lose a brief moment you might share.
Minjeong crouched down in front of you and traced your cheek with her finger. She smiled a little, your cheeks were still her favorite to pinch and poke after all. She contemplated on kissing your forehead but decided against it in case you suddenly wake up. She was in no state to see your sleepy brown eyes staring back at her. So she got up and looked at you one last time before leaving.
You were holding your breathe the whole time as well as the tears that's starting to form in your eyes. You wished so bad that she would either stop or just kiss you and shower you with affection. But you felt her move and heard her receding footsteps. When the door finally closed, you felt your tears flowing. You were catching your breath by the time you realized you were crying and you didn't know how to stop.
Minjeong was trying her best to act normal around you. She really wanted this to work out, but somewhere down the road she fell out of love. She feels so guilty about it and she tries her hardest to keep you happy and not let you know anything's wrong. She's thinking she'll be able to keep it up long enough for her to go back to how she feels for you. After all, she was the one who wanted you first so why does it feel like this now for her? And she can tell that you love her still with every smile and every affection thrown at her, and yet she feels like you're holding yourself back at times. It makes her wonder if you can feel it too - that subtle shift somewhere.
You and Minjeong weren't always like this. You're such a goofy pair - a perfect match as your friends say. You were both so smart and share almost the same likes. You always loved how witty and creative Minjeong is. Minjeong adores how sweet and kind you are. While Minjeong is quiet at times, you are bustling with energy and talks a lot and she listens to you with so much adoration in her eyes that you tend to shy away at times or get conscious about it. But she always assures you that she loves it. Both of you balance each other out that way.
Recently, you often get conscious about talking too much when you spend time with her, that you tend shy away and just sit quietly at dinner or when watching a movie with her. Only this time, there's only guilt in Minjeong's eyes that she's trying so hard to hide from you. Now you're both walking on a tightrope trying your hardest not to let each other fall off.
You were both trying. Minjeong, so clueless of what you are feeling, thinks she can still salvage what's left of your relationship. You, on the other hand, are just barely keeping it together although you know it's probably time to let her go.
So you made up your mind. You planned a perfect weekend together, which surprised Minjeong but she went along with it thinking maybe this is a good thing for the both of you. While in your mind, you're already pleading that this will make her stay with you longer, even though you know it is a battle you already lost.
You cooked all her favorite food, watched her favorite movie, talked about her work, and played lots of games. It was fun for the both of you. You were both genuinely smiling and laughing, but you can see the sadness behind it. You can sense how bittersweet the day was as it came to an end.
You smiled at Minjeong and took her hand as you guided her outside the balcony to look at the night sky. She was looking at you, you can feel it. You sighed and looked at her as you hold back tears. "Thank you for such a wonderful day, Minjeong." You say as you rub circles on the back of her hand. A nervous habit you sort of picked up when you're trying to soothe both her and yourself. She smiles at you, "of course. I had fun today."
You take a shaky breath and look out the horizon. "Minjeong, can I ask you something?" Her brows furrowed as she squeezed your hand. "Of course, baby. What is it?" She asks, and you almost melt as your tears start to well up when you heard her call you baby. You stumble over your words, trying to form a coherent thought. Minjeong looks over at you worriedly and squeezes your hand once more.
“I don’t know how to form it into words,” you confess. Minjeong tries her best to soothe you, “it’s okay, baby. Just try and I’ll understand.” You look at her and you see worry and guilt swimming in her eyes. It was all the push that you needed to finally let her go.
“Minjeongie, are you…” you choked back a sob and looked elsewhere before continuing. “Are you happy?” It was followed by complete and utter silence. You were scared to look over at her and so you continue after taking a huge breath. “Do you still want this? Us? Because honestly, Minjeong, you can tell me if this is no longer what you want. I’d rather lose you than see you so unhappy.”
You closed your eyes for a bit and steadied your breathing before risking a peak at the girl beside you. She was looking ahead with such somber eyes that it broke your heart further and cemented the thought that this was the right thing to do. “Have you been feeling that way for a long time now?” She softly asked. You owed her the truth no matter how much you wanna sugar coat everything. “Yeah, for a while now,” you replied just as quietly - afraid that if you say it louder it will become more true.
“I’m sorry,” she starts. You shake your head smiling at her although you’re in the brink of breaking down. “It’s nothing to be sorry about. If anything, I’m sorry. I knew for a while now and I still held on. I wanted you to stay a little longer, but each passing day I feel I’m being more of a burden than a rest for you and I don’t want that.” Minjeong held on to you tighter, trying to convey her feelings as she knows she won’t be able to put it into words.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers again and you close your eyes as you feel her pull you in for a hug. You savor the moment, for you know this is all you have left. So with the last bit of your strength, you enveloped her tighter and you stayed this way for a little bit longer before you catch your breath and let her go.
