You are correct, it's been a LONG time since I've put a new list together... I don't have any new personal recs (been a LONG time since I've read them), so what I'm going to do is do a tag search on my MFL list and put together a nice fresh list of fics suggested to me by you guys! Please note that I have NOT read any of the fics on this list so I'm probably wrong somewhere, LOL. They're not ALL winglock, for sure, but if anyone has anything relevant that they can add to this list, please do! Enjoy!

There’s a closet on one page; paper doors meant to be opened by the reader flutter as John reads the text on the other page.

Description:

The Königliche Sopwith Fliegerkorps developed a divergent combat philosophy from their mainland counterparts, believing that dogfighting and the “ace pilot” mentality was useless continental grandstanding that had no place in modern war.

Instead, the KSF used a tactic they referred to as the airborne gunline, and the Attentäter was designed for it from the ground up. Though neither as agile as most mainline fighters with its V8 engine, or as tough with its long, fragile wings, the Attentäter didn’t need either. Fast in a straight line and controllable, it was designed to joust with enemy aircraft, and was exceedingly good at it.

The plane can carry as many as six machine guns depending on its intended role. Its primary disadvantage is its violent stall characteristics, but KSF pilots were never expected to do much turning anyway.

Caernarfon Castle is located in the county of Gwynedd in Caernarfon, Wales. The medieval castle was first built in 1283 by Edward I of England to help control the newly conquered land from Normans’ attacks and capture Wales. The castle is located upon a 394 AD Roman fort along the Menai Strait at the mouth of the Seiont River. It is the most ambitious of King Edward’s iron ring of castles as it included town walls. The medieval castle has a long history of attacks, so modifications, including the King’s Gate, were added to help with defenses throughout the years. In 1294, Welsh leader Madog Ap Llywelyn attacked and burned the castle. King Edward I, retook the castle and built the King’s Gate, a massive structure with a drawbridge over a pit with several portcullis, gates, guardhouses, and machicolations. By 1330, the castle had undergone the last of its extensions. The castle has two upper and lower inner courtyards and twelve octagonal towers built into the curtain wall that offer accommodations. The Queens Tower was once called the Banner Tower. It is the highest tower and the one that displays the flag. The Cistern Tower collected rainwater into a stone-lined tank, while the Well Tower had a fifty-foot-deep well. The Eagle Tower has three turrets with three floors, a spiral staircase, and a basement with access to the river through a portcullis. The Eagle Towers has ten sides with 18 feet thick walls to allow passages to be carved from them on the upper floors. The castle was besieged twice, once in the 15th century by Owain Glyn Dwr, who became the Prince of Wales from 1404-15. By the mid-16th century, a military was no longer needed, and the castle fell to ruin, while some of its wings were used as a county prison. Restoration of the castle began in the 19th century. In 1908, Caernarfon Castle was handed over to the Office of Works, who continued repairs. In the 20th century, the castle was used for a couple of royal ceremonies. Prince Charles received his formal title at Caernarfon Castle. The interior boasts circular stone fireplaces, a shop, and the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Museum, which houses uniforms, guns, medals, and exhibitions.

Got a chance to visit Class on 38th with a friend over the weekend! We both got the paradise libre mocktail and split the tebasaki miso (heritage fried chicken wings with crusted black pepper miso reduction and sesame seeds) while I got the tori kuwayaki (pan roasted heritage chicken with cauliflower purée, oyster mushrooms, broccoli rabe and miso au jus) while she got the Hokkaido uni pasta (fusili pasta with squid ink, Hokkaido uni and pecorino romano!

Charles Burke was born in Armagh. His military service began in the Boer War as a Lieutenant in the 3rd (Militia) Bn, Royal Dublin Fusiliers. In 1902 he received a regular commission in the Royal Irish Regiment and, after serving with the West African Field Force, he was promoted Captain in 1909. In 1910 Burke went to France and learned to fly. In 1911 he was attached to the Balloon School at Aldershot where he also worked on the military uses of aircraft. Burke was an early proponent of air power and he wrote articles on the new military arm in service journals. In 1912, Burke was promoted Major and given command of No 2 Squadron of the Flying Corps. He served in France in 1914 in command of No 2 Wing, comprised of Nos 5 and 6 Squadrons before going to Canada in 1915 in charge of training pilots. In 1916 Major Burke was recalled to the Royal Irish due to a shortage of infantry officers. Lieutenant Colonel Charles Burke DSO was killed in action in command of 1st Bn, East Lancashire Regiment on 9th April 1917 and is buried at the Point-du-Jour Military Cemetery, Athies.

2. it's christmas you whos

ah. This fic.

The fic that haunts my dreams and keeps me awake far into the night. My mortal shame. The fic that was supposed to be released last christmas but instead i imploded in on myself like a dying star.

It's your standard It's a Wonderful Life AU. Wilbur starts off as a happy kid with aspirations of being in a band and slowly I beat him down until the only solution left is local not-supposed-to-be-a-guardian-angel Phil who's doing this to get his wings back from his wife to take Wilbur on a fever dream where he gets to witness all of his loved ones in varying degrees of distress.

Something I really like doing for this fic is figuring out where the different people come in and how it all eventually ties together... and how, if Wilbur wasn't there, it would have just fallen apart.

Another favorite part is career farmer Techno who is *constantly* going to war with the local government but only because he can't just dismantle them once.

A short snippet:

There’s a man on the bridge.

It’s an old bridge. Re-done and upgraded a thousand times. New beams. New asphalt. New guardrails. Everything kept up just enough to be called safe, and yet still, in the town’s endeavors of saving the pennies and dimes from repairing the old instead of building the new, they preserved some of the romance of the thing.

In truth, it had been widened to accommodate two lanes, had proper sidewalks installed, along with street lamps. But it still looked out on the same beautiful river it had when it was first built. The forest on either side somehow having remained untouched by progress. The kind of place lovers walk at night. A place where people gaze out of their car windows to see the beauty as it passes too quickly by.

Not tonight though.

6. i was reading that one fic again

this one haunts me less but only because it has no seasonal theme that i missed and also the final chapter is almost done.

This is my fic, "That I Could Fear a Door" over on Ao3 (linked under the cut). And I got the idea reading Silverwing15's "Two Fusiliers" (also linked under the cut). Because we love Philza and Technoblade have an emotional reunion and also Phil's a little messed up.

It's been a fun little project. I hope to finish the final chapter soon. It's angsty, emotional conversations from here on out >:). Phil has not had a good time and between the decades and the brainwashing he's got no idea how to approach Techno. And it doesn't help that Techno's getting pushy and distressed himself.

Actually this fic was supposed to start, like, the day before where it actually starts because I was going to show Wilbur getting whipped for "inciting rebellious thoughts."

Which is exactly what he was doing, actually.

8. “Lost Voice” Toast AU

basically i saw the distinct lack of ghost!tommy fics and decided that clearly Tubbo needed more torturing than what he's already gone through so I made Tommy accidentally down in Exile and Ghost Tommy, or Toast, wandering around outside L'manburg.

oh and also he just disappears one day because Dream revives him and no there is no explanation giving to Tubbo so I just leave him wondering for a while if Tommy melted because he wouldn't come inside or if he just... doesn't want to see him anymore.

I also considered maybe having post-prison death Toast show up but eh I think it will work better as a sad, short little fic where everyone's got that Big Sad

and I don't actually have a good snippet for this one so :|

"They used the Giftake from Colleen Schmitt herself, as well as... others," she says, trailing off. "But that is best heard from her own mouth." She turns her head to the door. "Carmilla, you may enter."

A figure enters the room, feminine, clad in the same manner of advanced cooling suit as used by the other Totem Warriors and Fursona's Fusiliers. She is a solid 2 meters even, and indeed has a form of a Blood Spirit vampire bat molded into a humanoid form - though she does not possess the wings of her genetic template.

She stops in the door, the burnished bronze-gold, shining black, and blood red stripe of her suit filling the entrance with color, sharply contrasted to the stark white fur of her body. She looks at Hannah with a mixture of awe and apprehension.

She bows her head briefly in a sign of respect.

"My Khan," she speaks, voice soft and respectful.

FOB Hawk was a very busy place, Hannah had observed - but at least here there were solid structures to make up quarters, instead of tents.

Indeed, the conditions at Hawk, though slightly more frigid than down at FOB Kinship, were overall much more comfortable. The prefabricated quarters module was based on Clan designs, so Hannah was quite familiar with the layout, and was able to rapidly stow the small amount of items she brought with her - a mobile computer to keep in touch with the Blood Spirit camp at Kinship, mainly, and assorted personal care items.

She had just finished settling in, and sending a message to those at Kinship - confirming she had indeed arrived - when there was a knock at the door.

"Hannah?" comes the voice of Melissa Hazen. "May I come in?"

@dduane's referring to the way I growled at Watson returning a soldier's salute in "Hounds of Baskerville".

The squaddie is in uniform with regimental headdress, so after inspecting what seems like legitimate ID, he's correct in saluting "Captain John Watson, Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers”.

Watson, however, is both out of uniform and hatless, so his proper response in those circumstances would have been to straighten slightly - "brace up" - then give the squaddie a crisp nod of acknowledgement.

Instead he returned the salute...

...and in a secure facility, that mistake should have been treated With Deep Suspicion.

My slight fixation with correct saluting protocol is, like correct trigger discipline, based on personal experience of Getting It Wrong With Consequences.

In the saluting instance, I failed to salute a Wing Commander - I was in uniform while he was in civvies, and I didn't recognise him - which earned me a short sharp "Your hat, My office, Now," chat without tea or biscuits with my Squadron Leader.

That happened in 1976, and even the RAF station where it happened is closed now, but it's still a prominent entry in the Things You Do Not Forget file.

Side-note: "Sherlock" Watson may actually have been Royal Army Medical Corps, attached 5th Northumberlands, since he's got an RAMC mug on his desk.

A Northumberland Fusiliers mug would have looked more like this, with the regiment's cap-badge and hackle colours. Maybe they couldn't find one.

Hey Steph, do you or does anyone still remember when Mofftiss dropped the CV of John Watson at a convention and everyone was outraged that it was just an A4 piece of paper? Does anyone still have this saved? I’m writing a fic rn and I wanted to have a look at the cursed CV once more, but I only came across posts that did meta on John’s CV from the blind banker, so I thought I’d ask you or your followers who might still have it.
