On Friday I posted the last chapter of 'Wait for me (To come home)' so this one is now complete and safe to binge.

Today I'm coming with a little something something first draft that I'm cooking up for Christmas 👀 (Think Hallmark vibe, small town meet cute, aged up single Dads Alex and Henry, animal shelter owner Henry, DOGS)

Emilia Fox had entered Olivia's life during her first visit to the small town. They hit it off instantly, and since then, Alex has always listened fondly to all the things Millie and she had done during her stays, which often involved the infamous David, Millie’s beagle. Alex had only met Millie once, briefly, when dropping Olivia for a weekend. She had been extremely polite and, quite frankly, adorable with her long blond hair and blue eyes. Yet beneath her sweet exterior, Alex had glimpsed a spark of the spirited nature that matched his daughter’s. But Millie has not been the only subject of conversation. He also has had to hear extensively, and not only from his daughter, but from June and Nora as well, about Millie’s father, Henry, who apparently seems to be a paragon of virtue: kind, handsome, animal lover (he ran the local animal shelter apparently) always ready to help those in need. A real-life Prince Charming.  Alex can't help but feel a mixture of curiosity and, if he is honest with himself, a twinge of competitiveness. He is eager to meet this Henry, this apparent pinnacle of fatherhood and masculinity. And perhaps, a small voice in the back of his mind whispers, he might just discover a flaw or two. Or three. After all, nobody can be that perfect... right?

As Henry gathers his things, Alex just can’t help himself. "So. You save animals, you write articles for the newspaper, and if my daughter is to be believed, you’re the ‘coolest dad ever.’ Is there anything you can't do?"

Henry pauses, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "Well, I'm rubbish at karaoke. And despite living here for years, I still can't wrap my head around Fahrenheit and inches. My brain stubbornly clings to Celsius and meters, I'm afraid.” Alex’s eyes narrow at Henry’s placid response. What would it take to crack that unflappable, oh-so-British goddam exterior? He opens his mouth to retort, but June returns from the restroom. "All set!" she announces cheerfully. To Alex's bewilderment and increasing irritation, Henry leans in and kisses June lightly on the cheek. Seriously, what’s with all the kissing with this guy? Is he fucking half-French or something? "Thanks again for your input, June. Enjoy your lunch, both of you," Henry says with a warm smile. Alex watches Henry go before turning back to June. “Are you really sure that guy’s not into you?”  June rolls her eyes. “Don’t be ridiculous. Let’s go, I’m starving.” Alex bites his tongue, realizing that pursuing this line of questioning will only sour his lunch with his sister. Besides, it's clear June doesn't see what he sees when it comes to Henry Fucking Fox. But maybe it’s time he and Mr Perfect have a conversation.

This picture forms one of the ‘Windsor Beauties’ series, a set of eleven portraits of celebrated women at the Restoration court painted by Sir Peter Lely. The series was commissioned by Anne Hyde, Duchess of York, probably around 1662-5.

Pepys recorded on 21 August 1668 that he ‘did first see the Duke of York’s room of pictures of some Maids of Honour, done by Lilly: Good, but not like.’ By describing the pictures as ‘not like’ Pepys is alluding to the often noted opinion that Lely flattered his subjects, and gave each portrait a similar languorous and ‘sleepy eyed’ air, said to have been influenced by the features of the noted court beauty Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland. Contrary to Pepys’s assertion, only one of the sitters, Frances Teresa Stuart, actually held the position of Maid of Honour in the Royal Household. Some of the others were noted courtesans, while others were respected members of the nobility.

Barbara Villiers was Charles II’s principal mistress between 1660 and 1670 and the most powerful woman at court until she was supplanted by Louise de Kéroualle.
