Had fully comprehensive insurance with 50 deductable, loaner car and legal support so paid to be protected. When car was collected from accident, collecting garage said at that time that due to the mileage my car would not be repaired. However it took 5 to 6 weeks for the insurance examiner to determine that my car was beyond repair, so I did without a car all that time. Despite repeated phone calls to them, they never called me back as their examiner was on holiday. Then when we finally agree that a price of 500 for my car in January 08 and that took some haggling, the cheque never and so I started chasing them down in early February. I am then informed that I did not disclose a speeding violation on my application and they would have to listen to the tapes of my applying to verify this. Again this took several weeks, and I again had to pursue them for an answer to which they then said I had applied on the internet so no record of a phone conversation. The internet application was misleading, asking for what I believed was 3 years worth of offenses. I've only ever had 2 speeding offenses in my entire life - both speed cameras, just over the limit. The first was at 6 a.m. and I passed a bus pulling over to stop and as I passed it got flashed. The second on the day I found my dad had days to live and I was rushing to catch a flight, and as in both instances was doing 42 mph in a 30 mph zone for a very short period. Nonetheless, I was speeding and paid my fines. I wrote to the insurance company and apologised for not telling them of the other speeding ticket from 4 years and 9 months earlier as I forgot about it. But I admitted it, and apologised in writing. Then then came back to me saying that there would be additional premium to pay before I would get paid for my car. Well, its October 08, and I finally got a letter from the insurers saying they are not paying me as I failed to pay the additional premium requested and they were not going to renew my policy. I have never been asked even after repeated letters to them how much the additional premium was, and what I should do. No replies. I have asked for my car back which they agreed to pay for, and now they state there is nothing they can do, and it is their final decision. I went to the financial ombudsman and unbelieveably DID NOT get a reply from them. I've even spoken to one of their survey staff who tells me that they are incredibly busy and it was probably put aside and not dealt with. I'm at a total loss as to where I stand and how to pursue this without spending more than the accident and car was worth. I've written to their data protection officer and obtained copies of all documentation pertaining to this, so by their records can verify all this information quite clearly. Finally, I maintained my cool with them at all times. Never once did I raise my voice or become unprofessional with them. My questions are: 1. Can I legally request my car back as it has never been paid for? 2. Were they taking money for policy on a car they knew that through mileage alone, they would never pay for loaner car, or to have repaired? 3. This has meant over 30 letters and more phone calls than that to deal with, and rarely do they call you back or reply at all. Can I claim for this time and distress? 4. Am I totally wasting my time? This kid needs a major attitude adjustment and a kick in the *** but no one will do it and I'm not allowed to say anything to him about anything but I'm so sick and tired of having to keep my mouth shut and watch everything he says and does to his family yet I am to provide insurance for this a@%hole. He's not supposed to be driving anyone's car but he took his mom's and won't give it back to her, he lives with us even though he is NEVER here (DYFS took the kids away from their mom about 4 yrs ago and placed them with us immediately) (oh, the issues have been going on a lot longer than these 4 yrs but not to this degree). By the time we file and the court allowed for emancipation he will be 18 so that is no use. He HAS to live with us until then but I don't want my insurance going up anymore than it has and want him off of it. He refuses to hand over his license too. You can see just about anything rolling down Woodward during the Dream Cruise, but we parked it for a bit in Ferndale to check out the classics at the Emergency Vehicle Show. Here are our top three favorite cop cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. Cop Cars 1977 Ford LTD This detective special is outfitted with the 351 Police Package and a 460-cubic-inch V-8 making all of 226 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque and driving a three-speed auto. This one has factory air conditioning and tinted windows, but we’re much more interested in the red velour interior and magnetic Federal Fireball FB111 teardrop emergency light. It did service in Montgomery Township, Ohio, before undergoing a serious restoration. 1961 Plymouth Fury With the “Golden Commando Power” 361-cubic-inch V-8 under the hood, this Plymouth must’ve been menacing in the rear view mirror. With 310 hp and 435 lb-ft on tap, it had plenty of power, blown through a Torqueflite three-speed auto. This one, formerly of the Village of Farnham Police Department in Pennsylvania, is rather rare, as this unloved, fin-less body style was only produced in ’60 and ’61. 1941 Ford Coupe Can you imagine asking the suspect to climb into the back of your coupe? Lake Orion, Michigan, did back in the ‘40s. This 90-hp flathead V-8 with automatic transmission was restored six years ago and is believed to be the oldest police car registered and owned by a police department in the state of Michigan. Fire Trucks 1957 Howe/Willys Jeep HJ-P Willys licensed the original Jeep CJ design to a number of companies after the war, including the Howe Fire Apparatus Company of Anderson, Indiana. This 1957 model HJ-P was purchased by the Western Electric Company for use at its Allentown, Pennsylvania, plant, after which it was donated to the local volunteer fire department. Shoppers and browsers flooded the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University Friday to check out the latest models of luxury and economy vehicles on the market. Now in its 21st year, the Lehigh Valley Auto Show kicked off a four-day event on Thursday. Hosted by the Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Dealers Association, it features sparkling new cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles, minivans, hybrids and crossovers from every major manufacturer — Acura to Volvo and all makes in between. Stretched across Stabler Arena, Rauch Field House and two temporary tents, the event on Friday drew drivers and dreamers who scanned the selection while trying not to get sticker-shocked. In one of the tents, Mark Skehan buzzed excitedly around the cherry-bomb red KIA Stinger, popping his head in the rolled-down windows and raising the hood to have a peek at the engine. While admittedly in the market for a pickup truck, the Ottsville resident said he was checking out the all-wheel-drive Stinger, listed at $52,795, for a friend. But the flashy five-passenger sportback, with its 3.3 liter, 365 horsepower V-6 engine, might have made him change his mind. “This thing intrigues me; I want to test drive it,” he said. “This car is very impressive for a KIA.” Bob Youst, of Bethlehem, got his nose close to the tinted glass of the Mitsubishi Outlander, peering intently at the specifications affixed to the window. “Some Mitsubishi’s used to come from Australia, I wanted to see if they were still doing that,” said Youst, a World War II Army veteran and current owner of “my 15th Chrysler.” Joe Moyer, of Telford, said he was “just scouting” as he poked around a Subaru Forester, marked at $38,021. “This is nice, it’s got everything in it,” he said. Moyer is pulled like a magnet to such events. After missing last year’s auto show, he was sure to make time for this one. “I love cars,” he said. “It’s one of my hobbies.” For Walt Mattson, it’s not cars so much but trucks that he loves. Still, a white turbo-charged Malibu Premier drew him in like a beacon. The sea of vehicles made it easy to get distracted. But serious shoppers tended to be more focused. Allentown residents Morris and Carol Halpin looked carefully at a ChevroletSuburban, listed at $69,125 fully loaded. The owner of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, Morris Halpin said he’s shopping for a new one and keeping an eye out for an SUV for his wife. Visiting the show with their 2-year old grandson, Hunter, Halpin said the child’s comfort and safety is also a consideration. “I need the full-size truck to get the car seat in there,” he said.

Top 9 Cop Cars, Fire Trucks, and Ambulances at Woodward 2017

You can see just about anything rolling down Woodward during the Dream Cruise, but we parked it for a bit in Ferndale to check out the classics at the Emergency Vehicle Show. Here are our top three favorite cop cars, fire trucks, and ambulances.

Cop Cars

1977 Ford LTD

This detective special is outfitted with the 351 Police Package and a 460-cubic-inch V-8 making all of 226 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque and driving a three-speed auto. This one has factory air conditioning and tinted windows, but we’re much more interested in the red velour interior and magnetic Federal Fireball FB111 teardrop emergency light. It did service in Montgomery Township, Ohio, before undergoing a serious restoration.

1961 Plymouth Fury

With the “Golden Commando Power” 361-cubic-inch V-8 under the hood, this Plymouth must’ve been menacing in the rear view mirror. With 310 hp and 435 lb-ft on tap, it had plenty of power, blown through a Torqueflite three-speed auto. This one, formerly of the Village of Farnham Police Department in Pennsylvania, is rather rare, as this unloved, fin-less body style was only produced in ’60 and ’61.

1941 Ford Coupe

Can you imagine asking the suspect to climb into the back of your coupe? Lake Orion, Michigan, did back in the ‘40s. This 90-hp flathead V-8 with automatic transmission was restored six years ago and is believed to be the oldest police car registered and owned by a police department in the state of Michigan.

Fire Trucks

1957 Howe/Willys Jeep HJ-P

Willys licensed the original Jeep CJ design to a number of companies after the war, including the Howe Fire Apparatus Company of Anderson, Indiana. This 1957 model HJ-P was purchased by the Western Electric Company for use at its Allentown, Pennsylvania, plant, after which it was donated to the local volunteer fire department. It carries no water on board, just some equipment and hoses on the back and a water pump driven off a power take-off (PTO) on the front bumper. It’s operated by a throttle pull on the driver’s side of the grille and monitored by a tachometer on the passenger’s side of the grille. Under the hood sits the standard four-cylinder engine mated to a column-shifted three-speed manual.

1960 American LaFrance Type 900

“Old Frankie” here is a 1960 Type 900 running a proprietary Continental gasoline inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission rather than the optional V-12. These roofless models were popular at the time, but you could get them with a roof as well. Frankie worked the Stonefort, Michigan, fire department back in the day.

1972 Ford 900

The Ford 900 Chassis Cab commercial truck was popular with fire truck manufacturers in the 1970s, and this one outfitted by Pierce in Appleton, Wisconsin, had a long service life. The pump was upgraded to a newer Waterous Company unit in 1986 and the original gasoline V-8 was swapped for a Caterpillar diesel in 1988. The Tele Squire combination ladder/sprayer is original.

Ambulances

1969 Oldsmobile 98 Combination

Before the mid-1970s, it was common for funeral homes to also operate ambulance services and this particular Olds 98 was owned and operated by the Voran Funeral Home. It only saw two years of service before Voran shut down its ambulance division and was parked for 38 years. Most ambulances of the day used Cadillac commercial chassis, so this Oldsmobile is rather rare.

1972 Cadillac Combination Hearse/Ambulance

Back in the ‘70s, Cadillac provided a “Commercial Chassis” to limousine, ambulance, hearse, and other outfitters. Every bit of the body from the dashboard back was left off so a custom body could be fitted. This particular hearse/ambulance combo was built by the Miller-Meteor Company of Piqua, Ohio, and sold to the Fry and Lange Funeral Home in Indiana. By removing the emergency light beacon and installing window covers, it could be quickly converted to a hearse when needed.

1954 Chevrolet/National Ambulette

No, that’s not a typo. Ambulettes were common in the early days of the ambulance and referred to smaller vehicles unable to accommodate a full-size stretcher. This 1954 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery van was outfitted by National and served in Ohio. These days, it’s been outfitted with a modern Chevrolet crate 350 V-8 and more comfortable seats.
