Coord Breakdown: July 1st, 2023
Now that I've got a dedicated lolita blog, I'll be posting and discussing some of my coords, starting with a few from the past. This one's one of my personal favorites, and very meaningful to me.
JSK: Handmade
Blouse: Offbrand
Waist cincher: Handmade
Headbow: Handmade
Veil: Fanplusfriend
Choker: Handmade (sort of)
Necklace: Offbrand indie
Bracelets: Offbrand
Socks: Offbrand
Boots: Offbrand
Full breakdown under the cut.
This coord is a big milestone for me. It's my first handmade JSK (not counting a failed attempt from years earlier), and my first time using my own custom fabric!
I designed the fabric in the summer of 2022, and had it printed via Spoonflower. It's themed around Castlevania, a favorite game series of mine (and one that has quite the interesting history with lolita! Did you know Mana composed a ringtone to promote Harmony of Dissonance that is now lost media?). Each of the stained glass windows depicts one of the subweapons used throughout the games (plus wall chicken), which are also repeated as a motif inside the stripes. If you look closely, you can also see the modern and retro Castlevania logo incorporated into the surrounding glass. Beneath the windows are gravestone-like blocks, each with the name of a game's protagonists and the year the game takes place. At the hem is a quote that has been attributed to a number of people, including Winston Churchill, but is notably said by Alucard and Richter at the end of Symphony of the Night. Finally, above the border print is a pair of wall-mounted candles, which can be found throughout Castlevania and destroyed to gain ammo or other upgrades. According to IGA, these candles contain the restless spirits of Dracula's victims, who drop upgrades as thanks for freeing them from the castle.
Here are some closeups, one of which is in the black colorway! I've got four different colorways available on Spoonflower, each inspired by a different character (Richter, Alucard, Juste, and Maria). You can find them here. The fabric I chose for my JSK is poly crepe de chine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But enough fabric talk. Have at you!
The cut of the JSK is based on Bodyline's Skull in Wonderland JSK, which I've owned for years now; It's simple and fits me well, so I figured using it as a template would be the most effective way to make a good JSK for myself without too much hassle. Making clothes based on existing garments you own is a tried-and-true method in fashion design and home sewing.
I actually debuted the JSK about a month earlier while on vacation, with a different coord:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, I couldn't help feeling that it was a bit lackluster. After much thought and advice from friends, I decided to spruce things up and give it another try at the then-upcoming renfaire.
This time I used one of my summer blouses, an offbrand peasant top I got at Rainbow forever ago- I think the brand is Ambiance? I also bought a set of bracelets (also from Rainbow, and they've now become a staple of my wardrobe), and a pair of black lace-topped OTKs in place of the plain black tights I'd worn before. For the rest of the jewelry, I wore a glittery purple bat necklace I'd bought from a renfaire vendor years ago (I wish I knew the name!! If anyone recognizes it please let me know!), and a scrap of black lace with a small safety pin through the back as a choker.
Finally, the remaining accessories. I made a wired headbow out of leftover fabric from the dress, with a beaded chain in front. I wore this over a veil from Fanplusfriend. As for the waist cincher, I made it out of stretch pleather and lace, along with black fabric to tie in the back. I used gold acrylic paint to add a nice patina to the leather, and hand-painted our pal Simon Belmont in a coordinating color scheme. My parents said it looks like a wrestling belt, lol.
Tumblr media
Regarding the boots, I know damn well that the renfaire grounds are muddy and uneven, so I wore a pair of riding boots I originally bought for a Joseph Joestar cosplay way back in the day. Sometimes you gotta sacrifice a little bit for practicality's sake.
All in all, I'm very proud of how this coord came out. It was really amazing seeing something I designed come to life, and working hard to make it truly beautiful. I hope this inspires other folks to try their hand at designing and making lolita!

Gothic Lolita Austria is organizing a BIG teaparty this year! (With international guests and all! Our first one since the pandemic hit a stop button on such plans.) I'm so excited for the Royal Symphony of Roses teaparty we're organising for June 8th 2024. I'm part of the organization team this time around (for previous teaparties I was a shop-assistant-chan and helped my friend out selling her beautiful jewelry. In the meantime I've infiltrated the lolita ranks further and can now do even more work! Haha. It's fun though!)
I wanted to look back to the last one we had! It was ~HalloWien~ in 2017. HalloWien is a pun/wordplay on Halloween by the way. Vienna is called Wien in German (what we speak here) and as the date was very close to Halloween and our last big teaparty was Gothic-themed and next to the big cemetery in Vienna HalloWien was very fitting!
You can read what I wrote a couple years ago, I'm just adding an image description now.
Picture 1: A picture of the fashion show, with a tall blonde model showcasing "A Full Moon Night" by designer Haenuli. I'm in love with the phases of the moon design on the bodice and the skirt of the black dress and the sheer blouse they paired with it.
Picture 2: A group picture of ALL the lolitas who attended HalloWien teaparty! You can see from the dark colour scheme that most everyone went with the Gothic theme.
Picture 3: A close-up selfie of my friend & me (Amy). We're both young white women with long brown hair. My friend is thin and wears her hair open with bangs, and the way she holds her head in this picture gives her a snake-like appearance. I'm fat and wearing rimless glasses and wearing multiple braids, further decorated with added black ribbons braids. I'm wearing a bat-like half-bonnet with a dark red (blood red! think dried blood) flower-crown in front of the half-bonnet. I shared one of my face tattoo bat stickers with my friend, so we match. And of course I'm wearing some jewelry from her - an anatomical heart to fit my vampire queen vibes!
Picture 4: A picture of a tram way in front of the main entrance of the Viennese Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery).
Picture 5: A picture of a young, thin, white woman with pale-pink hair worn in soft curls. She's wearing a white fairy-like coord with handmade translucent fairy wings at her back and a delicate white crown (decorated with roses) on her head.
Picture 6: A picture of a young, tall, thin and white woman with brown hair, worn in an up-do and decorated with a hair veil. She's wearing a black elegant blouse and a JSK dress with a galaxy theme print on it.
Picture 7: A picture of a petite young white woman with light brown short hair, worn in two pigtails. Her pastel coloured coord features a dress with a medical themed print, hence she's wearing an ey epatch to match the theme. I especially love her lavender and white striped socks too!
In this picture you can also see more of the background most pictures have been taken in front of - it's an elegant sofa, with a taller sidetable with a silver candelabra on it. There's a cute little pumpkin too! Behind the sofa are windows and you see a peak of the outside and some wooden lattice, that's behind one window
Picture 8: A close-up of me (Amy) outside the building. I'm a young fat white woman with long brown hair worn in many braids (with added braids made from black ribbons) and also wearing rimless glasses. My (rare) make-up is dark to fit the vampire vibe: the smoky eyes almost disappear on camera but you can see my blood-red lip and my bat sticker face tattoos. I'm wearing a bat-like half bonnet and a dark red (think dried blood!) flower crown. Some fir trees are behind me and I'm making the "off with their head" hand gesture. Here you can also see the dark red cutsew (decorated with lighter red lace I made for the occasion and the ~Queen of Bats~ JSK dress in black and grey with lots of bats on it. (Also handmade by me.)
Picture 9: A picture of a young, thin and white woman with long brown curly hair. She's wearing a brown bonnet decorated with lace and flowers and a pretty brown shawl (decorated with pins & brooches) over her chocolate-brown lacey blouse and the lighter cream-coloured dress with a fairy tale print on it. Individual fairy tale book pages are framed by brown vines. She's also holding a red apple, which gives a clue that the fairy tale her dress depicts is Snow White.
Picture 10: A screenshot from the movie The Craft, with the four teenage witches exiting a bus and telling the driver "We are the weirdos mister".
Picture 11: Six young white women posing in front of the Ronacher theatre, decorated with larger-than-life vampire fangs for the famous musical Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires). We enjoyed the musical with the visitors from Russia. Everyone has dressed for the occasion and we're giving major vampire vibes!
Picture 12: Last but not least is a meme I've made, of my French friend & me sitting on the picture taking sofa. Our faces are censored and we're proclaimed as (not so) anonymous sewing addicts. On the bottom is the logo of Textil Müller, a famous local fabric store with amazingly low prices (The buy & sell second hand ware, B grade, leftovers from business closings, etc) .
My friend is wearing a classic lolita coord, with a handmade hat (by herself) and an earth-toned JSK dress with a book print. In this picture you can see more of my bat-themed dress as well.
[/image description]
HalloWien - the people make teaparties special ♥ (Part I/english)
Every two year my local lolita community hosts a big teaparty. This year was one of those years!
Tumblr media
HalloWien - a spooky gothic lolita event next to the cemetery! was this year’s name and the first time that our teaparties had a kind of theme. Of course it was up to everyone to come as they like, but you could expect much more gothic lolitas than usually. After Metamorphose and Innocent World as guest in previous years, 2017 special guest was Korean designer Haenuli. She showed some of her famous dresses, as well as some new ones in the fashion show!
Beware, a long, rambling & very excited retelling of the HalloWien-teaparty follows after the cut! ♥

Note
For anyone looking for Disney prints for a dress, Joann and Hobby Lobby have a new fabric that is printed with the stained glass windows from Beauty and the Beast. I'm making a JSK with that as a skirt and I just wanted to let everyone know it exists!!
This one? It’s really lovely! Thanks for sharing!

Halloween coordinate I
I am so in love with navy at the moment, and with halloween coords as well. I have three (more or less) halloween themed coords this year and am going to post my old coord from last year as well.
Since the print of this jsk is so wonderful I wanted to do a detailed floordinate post again (Click here to see photos of me wearing this). Stained glass is truely one of my favourite print themes, and the JSK of my last year`s halloween coord features windows as well.
I got this jsk of the brand pumpkin cat via @devilinspiredofficial :)

Winter International Lolita Day 2017 took place on Saturday, December 2 this year. I figured I would write a post about this before 2017 ends since it was a fantastic day! It was my first time truly twinning too… I’ve never twinned with a print before!
The night before the meetup, I was last-minute coord-ing (at past midnight). You can see my full planning photos on Tumblr.
Me and Victoria of ParfaitDoll twinned in Powder Rose: same colorway, but different dresses. I love this Angelic Pretty print, and was really happy when I was able to purchase it secondhand from a friend!
There were a bunch of different meetups happening in NYC for International Lolita Day, but I attended the meet that was at Sweet Time Dessert Cafe in West Village. It was such a cute location for International Lolita Day! Powder Rose fit right in at home.
Everyone there adored the rose wall. The desserts all looked so cute too! I had the mousse dessert shaped like a heart (and we called it the “butt” because it also looks like a peach… or a butt). The bubble tea was delicious too! I actually had two bubble teas: a jasmine green tea with peach bubbles one, and a Thai tea one with brown sugar bubbles.
If I had more money, I would have bought more desserts for myself. I wanted to try all the desserts there… Even though I only got one dessert, Victoria and I took bites of each other’s treats too! Her roll dessert was really cute!
It was really cold outside (in my opinion), so I regret not wearing my trusty old L.L. Bean winter jacket like I always wear in the wintertime. The reason I opted out of that jacket is because it’s solid black (and not loliable at all), so I wanted to wear a sweet style coat. The coat I chose to wear was this short coat from Liz Lisa.
It’s really cute, and I love the bows on it! It’s not very warm though… And I was wearing so many layers that day to make up for it. Thermal shirt, thermal tights, regular tights, knee-high fleece socks, a long-sleeved blouse, my huge multi-layer Classical Puppets petticoat… And my wig counts as an additional layer, right?
Photo from Tara: group photo!
Luckily, it was nice and cozy inside the dessert cafe. The giant bear by the window at the cafe was the most popular…! Everyone wanted photos with him.
Check out this funny video me and Victoria made!
Photo from Tara
Even people who came to the cafe outside our meetup wanted photos with the bear and against the rose wall!
Photo from Christina
Below, you’ll see a cute photo collage Christina made of me and Victoria and our adventures at the meetup. The last panel is my favorite one! Victoria was complaining about terrible customer service at a nail salon she had tried. Her face is perfection.
Photo Collage from Christina
It was super fun to twin, and I hope I can find someone to twin with again! This meetup was super fun, although it ended in pain and tragedy: both soles of my Bodyline boots came off. First, the right side. And then later on, the left side. It was really difficult to walk, but I was able to make it back home somehow. I’ll probably try to glue the soles back on and then minimize wearing them. (Maybe just wear them for shoots?) I’ve had similar negative experiences with Bodyline shoes so I’m hesitant to buy them again.
In any case, here’s my coord rundown:
❀ JSK & Canotier: Angelic Pretty’s Powder Rose
❀ Hairbows: Offbrand
❀ Earrings: Orisian
❀ Blouse: BTSSB
❀ Rings: Offbrand
❀ Necklace: Claire’s
❀ Tights: Offbrand
❀ Shoes: Bodyline
❀ Coat: Liz Lisa

Hi, everyone! As promised, here’s the roundup of questions and comments you all sent in. Thank you very much for celebrating HYLF’s anniversabirthday and making it a very fun one!
Anonymous said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           have you ever tasted sand I don't like sand... It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. @calimorea said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           Hello! Thank you for your dedication to the blog! What would you say is the safest site to buy from? Hmm. Well I guess the “safest” would be brand shops like Baby, AP, Meta, etc. I’ve never heard of anyone running into troubles buying straight from the brands. Taobao brands area also pretty reliable, since the site rates shops using user feedback. (Infanta used as an example. The crowns are a good thing.)
Tumblr media
Similarly Lace Market has a feedback system that lets a buyer know whether a seller is trustworthy. (User picked off the front page at random.)
Tumblr media
Anonymous said to heckyeahlolitafashion:          hey im a mean anon just kidding!!! i love you Haha hello mean anon, thank you!
@mrs-cheese said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           I really love your blog, have been following you for quite a while now. Thanks for running it <3
Thank you for supporting it! @tomanynames said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           Happy birthday!! I really love your blog as it helps me keep up to date on what's going on with new brand stuff; what's your fav accessory?
Thank you! My favourite kind of accessory is probably boater hats. They go great with sweet, classic, country, sailor, really tons of styles, and they give off a spring/summer vibe while still being practical. And of course they’re completely adorable! (Pictured: Alice and the Pirates' Rose Lace Boater Hat)
Tumblr media
Anonymous said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           happy birthday! and for a question, what made you decide to run a Lolita blog? and what's your fave style of Lolita?
Thank you! Honestly my motivation was pretty simple. I kept seeing lolita fashion posts I wanted to reblog, but my main is pretty much personal and fandom stuff, so I didn’t want it to be overrun with pretty clothes. I decided to make a sideblog to which I could post and reblog lolita to my heart’s content, and four years later I’m pretty much doing the same thing! As for my favourite style, the boater hats may have tipped you off, but I really like country lolita! I love gingham and twintails and straw handbags, plus the whole look just says “spring is here!” Canadian winters can be pretty rough, and seeing gingham pop up in brand shops is like the lolita equivalent of the first robin of spring.
@naminesfriend said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           Do you trust dresslily for shopping? Have you ever purchased from there before?
Heck no. When you’re not sure if a shop is reliable, try googling “is [shop name] reliable? In the case of Dresslily, this brings up a Facebook group called “People Scammed By Dress Lily“ and a BBB rating of 1.2. If it sounds like it’s too good to be true, chances are, it is! Stay safe, friends.
Anonymous said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           Hey!! I've been really nervous to start wearing lolita fashion since I'm plus size and more masculine aligned but this blog has motivated me to start to try and sew my own clothing!! I've been really excited since I have some really nice frilly ideas that might look really nice!! I just really wanted to thank you (and the lolita fashion community) for motivating me to be more confident in myself!!! I hope you have a lovely day! 💖💖💖
That’s great, I’m so happy for you! I love when lolita fashion can help people find confidence and look the way they want to look. Lots of luck in your fashionable ventures!
Anonymous said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           What's your personal favorite type/style of lolita fashion? Do you have a favorite brand or favorite line?
Like I mentioned, my favourite style is country, but I also love sailor lolita! Sailor collars are adorable, plus I love how it celebrates the inherent cuteness of sailor uniforms, without getting skeezy like sexy schoolgirl costumes... I hate those, let schoolgirls live. I also love seeing how brands find a new way to approach the substyle every year, with stripes or chiffon or whatever else they can think of. (Pictured: Angelic Pretty's Fairy Marine OP 2014 rerelease)
Tumblr media
As for favourite brands, I don’t know if it counts, but I have fond memories of looking through Baby’s shop when I was in high school and didn’t know much about lolita but knew those dresses were beautiful. I loved (and still love) looking at all the details -- the prints, the buttons, the lace... it’s probably what made me fall in love with lolita fashion in the first place! Plus I have to give them props for creating my dream dress!  (Pictured: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright's Paris Window Print JSK II)
Tumblr media
Anonymous said to heckyeahlolitafashion:           Not really a question but my sister and I expressed our love of Lolita fashion and she basically said if we ever try to wear it we will be Hurt by guys and slut shamed us saying "only sluts would ever want to wear such cutesy babydoll clothes because even innocent clothes are fetishized and we should know better than that" and it just made me really sad bc we love Lolita and she seems to find something sexual about the most innocent of things :(
This breaks my heart because there is an unfortunate kernel of true in it: No matter what girls and women wear, there will always be someone who assumes we do it for male attention. The only advice I can offer is to hold your head high and feel secure in the knowledge that they are wrong, and quite possibly projecting their own insecurities onto you, which is their problem, not yours. That can be a scary first step, so you may want to start out by wearing lolita to places where it won’t stand out so much, such as meetups and conventions. If you and your sister wear lolita together, it can be an opportunity for you to give each other confidence. If you end up deciding that it’s more trouble than it’s worth, that’s okay too; don’t let anyone shame you for choosing your battles. But I hope that you and your sister can find the confidence to embrace your love of lolita fashion and dress how you want. Good luck! (Pictured: Momiji from Cat Street)

Lolita Wishlist 2017
A friend of mine made a post documenting her wishlist for this year, so I thought I’d try it out myself. It is a few months into the year, but these dresses are basically the ones I am for sure looking out for and putting priority for this coming year~ Check it out under the cut!
Oh, you actually clicked? Well I’m glad haha. All of the dresses I chose are brand-only, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be opposed to looking for non-brand items (it’s just easier to document in this case). In no particular order, here we go!
ALICE AND THE PIRATES’ ROSY NIGHT’S MASQUERADE (JSK II)
Tumblr media
I already have the red and purple colorways. These are the only three colors left for my collection to be complete!! UPDATE: I got the ivory!! So black and grey are left!!
ANGELIC PRETTY’S ASTRO REGIMEN (FRILL JSK)
Tumblr media
This print and design is just too cute! I really wish I had jumped on it when it first came out. Looking for blue or ivory!
ANGELIC PRETTY’S CHESS EMBLEM JSK
Tumblr media
Another one that I REALLY wish I had actually tried for (alas, I forgot when it came out and was actually at a concert the day it released). This entire dress is so very me!
ANGELIC PRETTY’S CAMEO WINDOW (TIERED JSK)
Tumblr media
This dress is one of my favorites. I have it in wine, and I’ve worn it so many times already. It’s super comfortable and very classy. Hoping to add the ivory to my wardrobe!
ANGELIC PRETTY’S ROYAL CARDS MAGICIAN JSK
Tumblr media
This was the first brand purchase I’ve ever made, but I ended up selling it because it was too small and I didn’t think I could fit it. I eventually lost enough weight to actually fit it (thankfully a dear friend of mine bought it, so I just borrowed it from them). I’ve recently found the black one for a very good price, and it is absolutely lush, but I’m hoping to find the white one again!
ANGELIC PRETTY’S MERCATOR (LONG JSK)
Tumblr media
Tbh I actually forgot this print existed until this past weekend, when my friend wore the special mint version. I think this is the best JSK for me, as the bustier JSK is too small but the other JSK doesn’t suit my tastes. I’m looking for any of these three colorways, but I’m hoping to find them all eventually!
so many AP how did this happen...
Thanks for reading! If any of y’all see these for sale let me know~

A guest at a Tresor de Treasure tea party (top) and a lolita at Akon 2006 (2nd and 3rd) wear Meta’s window print jsk in off-white.
This colour is labelled as white on lolibrary but judging by these images I don’t think that is correct.

Halloween coord of last year
My last year´s halloween outfit was cat themed, this is not exactly the version I wore, but features the same jsk and headress. I took out all my cat brooches and pins for these photos: I have 8 of them, maybe I should wear them all at once sometime, just for the effect ^_^
The dress is Alice and the pirates´s  L'ecrin de votre gauche jsk II in green. The windows with animals are so lovely, the print is inspired of the japanese fairy tale “Gauche the Cellist”, I like story telling prints so much! It was also a birthday present I got last year from my boyfriend <3
