Tony looks up at him, biting his bottom lip. “They are not going to check if we have a nest or not.”

“Again,” Steve smiles, “not accurate.” He puts down the shopping bags—seriously how many shopping bags can one person hold with only two hands, Captain America or not—and pulls out a folded up paper. “Here—” he opens the fold, holding it out for Tony to see “—second dot point from the bottom.” He hands it to Tony, the letter from the Department of Omega Wellbeing of course, and reads from memory. “As nesting is a natural and commended part of being a bonded omega, we encourage the alpha to allow the omega to have a nesting space.”

“A dedicated room is not necessary,” Tony continues, trying and failing to keep the bitterness off his voice, “and the alpha is not obligated to allow nesting in the bedroom. Kitchen and bathroom are considered unsuitable but if—” He shakes his head and hands the letter back to Steve, a little hesitant to crunch it up and throw it out of the window. “They have Omega Wellbeing in the title but the omega wellbeing is not that important to them.”

“Evidently,” Steve takes the letter, folds it up and puts it back in his pocket. “Which means that if they’re doing a wellbeing check, they’re probably looking for an excuse to question the bond.”

Something cold builds up right under Tony’s ribs. “So they can take me back.”

“So they can take you back.” Steve’s lips form a narrow line. “And we can’t have that.”

So when a bank error leaves him unable to make rent, he does what anyone else would do in this situation: he accidentally gets a job drawing erotic illustrations for a gay bondage porn magazine. It turns out that pornography's not a bad way to make a living. The money's decent, the work is unexpectedly fulfilling, and if many of the men Steve draws bear a certain resemblance to Tony Stark, so what? No one's going to know Steve's in love with Tony. Summary: After coming so close to losing against Thanos, the Avengers have decided to set aside their differences and work as a team again. Well, they're trying... But there are a lot of hurts that haven't gone away, and a lot of things still unsaid, and a lot of tension... And that was BEFORE Tony accidentally ended up on an undercover mission with Steve as his fake boyfriend - at what turns out to be an alien sex club. THIS IS NOT A FANFICTION. This is yet another self indulgent essay on the MCU franchise - this time, my personal opinions on what has gone wrong since Endgame. I'm posting it mainly because it's been going around in my head for months and I wanted to share it somewhere, and because as far as I can tell from reading the ToS, it's okay to post this sort of fandom analysis on AO3 (If I'm mistaken in that, please let me know and I'll move this) But all you will find here is my own personal musings on a meta fandom topic.

Fic rec 1 : MCU

Although I still like nothing more than to dive head first into a new fic and to discover a new author's unique take on a fandom I love, I will start this blog by writing a few words about fics that I have read, reread and then read again : fics that were so good that they helped me through difficult times, and fics that were just so, so good - to the point that they ruined my sleep and destroyed my productivity at work - for the greater good, of course.

Among this trove are two works by WilmaKins : Whatever Makes You Happy and To Have My Time Again...

Both these amazing fics are fix-it stories for the post-Civil-War arc of the Avengers narrative. Both have the huge merit (to my eyes) of allowing Tony and Steve to make compelling cases for themselves, before putting these characters in situations that will force them to overcome their differences through mutual understanding.

Furthermore, the stories they tell are full of twists and their plot is really captivating. That in itself would be enough to render them exceptional.

But the main reason that these fics stayed with me long after I had finish reading them is the depth of their psychological analysis. Rarely have I read such a detailed and intelligent account of a honest exploration of the self. And yes, we all know that people are lying to themselves, that their are deluding themselves, that they can be and will be unreliable narrators of their own lives. These fics are not forgetting that. But, sometimes, adults are able to achieve emotional maturity. Sometimes, they are sincere in their quest to find what the hell is wrong with them and to better themselves.

Of this WilmaKins gives us two wonderful exemples - and a trail to follow in time of self-doubt, perhaps.

(The author assumes a dislike of Natasha that I do not share in the least, as she is one of my favourite characters in the MCU, but even she is granted a complexity that makes her depiction very acceptable in my books.)

He had been born a month and a half early, with asthma, a heart condition, and an irregularly bent spine, to begin with. That was followed by a bout of scarlet fever when he was eight, and a brush with death from rheumatic fever in his teens. These were interspersed with summer colds and winter flus, sometimes twice yearly. Into adulthood he had frequent stomach ulcers, and a case of pernicious anemia that required him to spend a significant portion of the little money he made on discounted liver at the butchers shop. Had anyone else had his cocktail of illness, they would be dead several times over.

Loki has used dark magic to take control of the Stark Kingdom, and placed their Prince under a horrible curse. Since then, Tony Stark has been under Loki's command, forced to help Loki construct his terrible machines, only able to do, say, or even think what Loki instructs him to. Of course, as in all fairy tales, there IS a way to break the curse. If Tony ever reaches sexual climax, then he will be free of Loki's control... But, for as long as he's under Loki's control, he is not able to so much as think about it.

Which leaves Steve to act as a white knight of a very different kind...

By far, it's Self-Preservation (Tony/Hydra Agents, TW: NonCon) which is still kind of hopeful but also very not.

I'm such a sucker for happy endings. Literally all my fics have a happy ending except for one.

Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully, I haven't. I have received hate from tumblr anons but it usually just makes me chuckle and ignore.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes. All the kinds. Every smut.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I LOVE crossovers. I think my absolute favorite was Steve and Tony going to Hogwarts through a portal, finding their Wizard counterparts being all lovey-dovey and then being like, "Oh."

I'm also currently posting a True Blood fusion fic which is fun because vampires and telepaths.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think so, but I also don't go searching for it.

Oh, man. I've co-written an entire Roman Empire with @festiveferret along with a handful of other fics. I also had the delight of collaborating with @sirsapling on His Best Suit and @athletiger on Forever Linked.

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

This Red, White and Royal Blue road trip fic I have 5k of but no real motivation.

I like to think smut is a strength of mine, along with dialogue and overall characterizations.

I sometimes forget to describe literally anything about the setting.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Sure, why not! If I don't know the language well, I try to get an expert to help beta it.

I tried to write a Harry/Draco fic over in Livejournal back in like 2004. I just found the link, and no I won't be sharing it.

But there are a lot of hurts that haven't gone away, and a lot of things still unsaid, and a lot of tension... And that was BEFORE Tony accidentally ended up on an undercover mission with Steve as his fake boyfriend - at what turns out to be an alien sex club.

Reasons why I love it: The premise of this fic intrigued me right from the get go, and since I love Wilma not just as a person but as a writer, I had very high expectations. And somehow this fic still managed to knock them all out of the water. It deals with the whole Civil War trauma in such a raw, satisfying way that it left me in tears multiple times. And the smut throughout the fic is absolutely excellent. Seriously, if you haven't read this one yet, get on it right now. I promise you won't regret it.
