Recently saw someone talk about how they hope the show doesn't introduce too many new characters. Unfortunately, I can't remember who it was, but I have some thoughts.

First of all, I agree. Some shows introduce so many characters, that the main cast doesn't end up getting the amount of development and focus they deserve. And I don't want the same thing to happen for Monster High. I mean, yes, we should get to see a good amount of characters reimagined, but let's not overdo it.

All the characters we've gotten so far are already so interesting. I wanna know what their relationships with their parents are like, their backstories, their interests and worries. And if they don't focus on the main cast, the show won't have enough time to include those things to a satisfying extent.

That being said, I think they've handled it fairly well so far, for the episodes that do introduce new characters, since it's still mostly about a main cast member. I just hope they don't bring in someone new every time. The show is already rather fast paced, just so they can cram in everything they want to include.

I think shows that promote toy lines tend to suffer the most from having too many characters. And I get it, they want to include all the characters they're selling. But the show shouldn't just be a big ad. It has to be able to stand on its own, be more than just a bunch of glorified character introduction videos.

I think that should be doable. I mean, talking about Monster High specifically, we probably won't be getting that many new doll releases in rapid succession, now that g3 is pretty much fully launched. The different doll lines tend to include mostly the main characters anyway, with a couple of new ones sprinkled in now and again.

There are already so many monsters shown that I expect will be made as dolls. Spectra, Manny, Howleen, Abby, Clawd, Iris. Heck, we already got Twyla, and she hasn't even shown up in the show yet. Then there are characters we can expect to be seeing, like Meowlody and Purrsephone, as well as Nefera.

That's so many potential dolls! We don't really need to see more new ones for now. Have mercy on our wallets, please. Also, it'd be great to see these characters get more than like, two releases. Adult characters like Bloodgood and Dracula getting dolls would also be lovely.

That's already so much potential, adding more than that to the first season would be too much in my opinion. After all, volks like Lagoona and especially Ghoulia have barely had a time to shine. And now I remembered I didn't even mention every new character that has been confirmed. There's also Gil. I could really live without Gil.

That was a lot, but I think you get my point. And don't take this the wrong way, I absolutely love the show so far, and seeing new characters is fun! But let's do this in moderation. You can have too much of a good thing. I mean, will we even get another episode focused on just the dynamic between Clawdeen, Frankie and Draculaura? It feels like we won't have the time.

Don't answer that question, I'm very much intentionally avoiding the leaked episode summaries.

Anyways, what do you think? I'd love to know everyone's thoughts on this.

Points for the new MH:

More than one character has prescription glasses, yah! (However they keep forgetting to add them and are for the sole purpose of making the character “nerdy”.)

More freckles. Always a plus.

They seem to not be completely abandoning lagoonas’ sporty girl aes?? Hopefully?

Draculaura is chubby! (At least in comparison) more body types is great especially for fashion focused franchises

Frankie is also nonbinary here which is something I think most fans agree fits them/her (it pronouns would be fun but I don’t think we’re there yet😔)

Actual effort going into designing the mansters? …potentially?

I think a lot more energy + passion is going into the gen than the last one, like I think people are having fun working on it

The dolls seem to be almost as good as the first wave, potentially better in some areas

P sure they chose draculaura as the “chubby” girl of the group bc she’s hyper feminine therefore redeemable on that front, but also that her signature with Lolita fashion covers common “problem areas” so they can still hide her new figure. I’m probably just a little too jaded but I’m worried any other character being given the same body type will suffer fashion wise 🫣

I heard they made lagoona Latina (cool) but why is she pink (white ppl skin color) 🤔

They took away lagoonas signature waves and missed the opportunity to give clawdeen legitimately curly hair, this is prejudiced (jk not jk)

Favorite character: Frankie Stein,Abbey Bominable, & Lagoona Blue. Frankie’s my #1, everything from her clothes to her personality.

Least Favorite character: however, I guess Toralei? Although that’s probably because of how she’s been written, over the years.

a random thought: I really don’t have a lot of Monster High dolls compared to some people out there, it just seems like I do because I’m tried for space. I’d really really like to collect more of the older ones, I just can’t right now and it’s frustratinggggggg…

An unpopular opinion: Apart from my ship preferences? Uh…I don’t really know. I tend to hang out on the side of the fandom that kind of agrees with my thoughts regarding changes in MH gen 2, which is where most of my opinions reside. But here’s one I haven’t voiced on here yet: I don’t think any of the ghouls needed extra siblings besides Lagoona and Clawdeen. While I’m excited for a new Stein family member (which is probably the only one I’m going to get provided she’s ever given a decent doll) the others make no sense, seem unnecessary and are very obviously a marketing tactic… Cleo worked so much better as a younger sister and I really preferred Draculaura as an only child. I think it added to her character. Frankie I could maybe see but I just kind of preferred her without any siblings. I don’t know. Monster High really has become Barbie now and lost a lot of what made it unique.

my canon OTP: Uh…I like all my canon ships about the same ^^;

Non-canon OTP: Cupid/Draculaura because it’s really fun to explore and draw <3

most badass character: I don’t know, honestly I think they’re all kind of badass in their own way. Before they were stripped down to stereotypes, I mean. Maybe Operetta? She never took crap from anyone, could clearly hold her own but still had enough to learn you felt for her. I also thought Monster High’s version of Dracula was pretty damn cool though. We never saw him but this great like…presence and mystique followed whenever he came up in conversation.

pairing I am not a fan of: There’s a few I’m not a fan of, and I’m not sure why. I’ve got nothing against these ships, I just don’t really see them? I’ll throw out Frankie/ Neighthan. to be different I guess. I understand why some people like it, I just don’t.

favourite friendship: Oh there are so many great friendships in this series, but I’m going to go with Cleo and Ghoulia. They’ve come such a long way from their first introduction.
