It cracks me up that Italy pops up in Ann Rice's novels like this homogeneous, bella Roma, dolce far niente kind of place (Daniel wandering through Pompeii's ruins at night every day of the week in the 70s- I can't) in which everyone speaks the same modern Italian, even though Armand's 1500s Venetian/Roman is not Gabrielle's 1700s Neapolitan, is not 1920s Lestat's Italian.
I don't care about that.
What I do care about is what I can never have:
Present day, modern AU or not it's fine either way, Armand speaking Roman dialect with the Venetian accent, complaining about tourists in Venice, and calling Lestat un ✨terrone✨ while Lestat counters in strict Neapolitan that Naples is the most beautiful city in the world, Rome smells like piss and Venice is an overrated swamp.
(both videos capture Armand's hate for Lestat imo)
(Terrone is a derogatory term for people from southern/central-southern Italy. Typically used by racist fucks from the north/central north or sometimes for laughs by southern peeps bc you know, own it baby.
Armand would mean it as an insult ofc, only for Lestat)
#iwtv#interview with the vampire#i can't stop thinking about it#lestat would not feel valid with zero italian culture and Armand would be ready to validate him by calling him a slur#Italian geopolitics#lestat de lioncourt#gabrielle de lioncourt#the vampire armand#ann rice#will add a Neapolitan link if I find one that screams Lestat
