I just love gardens with a wild romantic feel and this one fits the bill perfectly! It is such an art form to achieve this look and not ending up with a garden that appears overgrown and neglected. Finding the balance between formality and an informal planting style and partly allowing nature to do its thing does the trick, I believe. A restraint color palette also helps to keep the garden to stay away from looking restless and chaotic. If you analyse this garden scene you can see that there is structure in form of a neatly clipped boxwood hedge, a two tiered pedestal on with a huge container is placed and lots of hardscape but the planting style is fairly relaxed and informal and plants are allowed to grow between the paving stones. The color scheme is also kept fairly calm by using only purple in different shades and tiny bits of pink and lots of green. Light airy plants like verbena bonariensis as seen in the foreground also assist to create the look. I am curious, what you think of this garden. Please let me know in the comments! This is another shot from the garden in Devon, England with the forgotten name that I published a photo of two posts ago and that many of you liked so much. How about this perspective? The incredibly beautiful octagonal greenhouse with the wild romantic cottage garden style plantings surrounded by the ancient stone walls just make me swoon. Another magical garden scene in my book.
