Lynch and Badalamenti followed up Blue Velvet with Twin Peaks, yet we already talked about it a lot, so let us discuss Badalamenti's work on Wild At Heart instead. His compositions there occupy a middle ground between the orchestral classicism of Blue Velvet and the deceptive lightness of Twin Peaks. Nonetheless, this tune could fit the latter quite well, since I can see it as a part of a scene where Cooper visits One Eyed Jack's to talk to its owners, who proceed to elude answering his questions. The music also hints at a mad suspense that would be present in the sequence, because the Renaults are brandishing their knives as they converse with our coffee-chugging agent. True, Lynch does not end the piece with a massive bloodbath, he leaves it with a lingering feeling of unease. What, Badalamenti's song suggests that!
