uhhh yeah wilbur literally did nothing to earn the ire of tommy's father. it's been a while since I checked my timeline but I think he was like 2 years old or so when his mother married the king of eldingvegr, so there was no reason for the king to be beefing with a 2 year old. it was entirely because he was upset that his arranged marriage wife had a kid before him. and it's not necessarily in the old timey "must be 'pure'" kind of way, but it's the way it happened. wilbur's mother ran away from themis because she didn't want to be forced to take on her royal duties which included her arranged marriage. she was young and impulsive, and hopped between planets and had a one night stand that resulted in a kid. if she had had a full fledged serious relationship with someone from themis and had a kid with them, the king wouldn't have minded it so much. it was because it was the result of her rejecting her position and rebelling against her family in a borderline childish way that led the king to view wilbur as... a reminder I suppose, of what his queen was really like. that she was the type of person to abandon her family and duty if she got the urge. sure, it was entirely unfair to place that blame onto wilbur, but the king was a dick so he did.

Wilbur is a Prince of Heart fucking bite me

*clears throat* now that i have your attention please watch as i become mentally ill and explain why wilbur soot is a dirk strider kinnie. all /rp of course. analysis under the cut because i talk. so much.

basic summary: wilbur is destructive about emotions, he destroys others emotionally and most notably destroys himself for being emotional, he wants to be in control and spirals when he loses it but ultimately falls down mentally from broken trust and a misguided want to care for and about others. he lashes out at perceived flaws and puts people into titles, such as putting himself as a villain, and perceives himself as a negative force overall but is unable to stop caring and as such can often turn to using how much he cares into a destructive force. he needs to learn how to healthily let go of control and how to trust others. he used to care healthily and needs to relearn how to do so, but the fact that he is growing into becoming a healthy heart player when he fell due to untreated destructive tendencies is a signifier of being a prince

oh classpects my beloved <3 as a heart player (thief of heart :]) wilbur is absolutely a heart player and anyone who says otherwise is Wrong. anyways what people not super into the classpecting buiz dont know is that while aspects can have certain aesthetics tied to them, they arent defined by those aesthetics, and sometimes themes present in characters is uh, just them being characters and doesnt have anything to do with classpects. thats why every canon heart player in homestuck has something to do with romance (especially failed romance), but being a heart player does not mean youre inherently tied to romance, not really. also characters are often influenced by others and that can mess with things, but classpects are an ultimatum, you have to look at the whole arc of a character to classpect them, and thats hard in a story thats not done yet like the dream smp

but anyways. aspect is more about worldview, its how you see things, and it can either be something youre born into or something you grow into (which is determined by your class- for example, tommy is a knight because hes always had a connection to blood [which is also why i like knight more than thief, because as a thief, thief classes take their aspect and did not always have them, but tommys always been connected to blood, to relationships, in a literal sense he protects {knight} his relationships {blood} and sticks by them {also knight}]) which i think is why it can be so hard for people to agree on one aspect- you have to consider whether or not that character always embodied it or if they grew into it. in a world of unreliable narrators, worldviews have to be actively read into and you have to often push what a character says aside because they may be straight up lying. and because theyre lying, that can affect how they come off and their actions and words may seem disconnected when they arent

wilburs hard to get a handle on his class because of how often he contradicts the fuck out of himself, his aspect is easier to figure out because we've known him long enough to see how he fits into the heart mold- he cares about others, definitely! but he does have a vaguely inherent selfishness about him (calling l'manburg *his*, destroying it because he cant have it, because he's paranoid and doesn't think theres a chance of it ever being what it was meant to be, even when hes given the chance to have it again he destroys it instead because he doesnt want to try and fix it, claiming he doesnt care even though he destroyed it because he cared too much). unhealthy heart players can be cunning but impulsive, perceptive but emotional and falling into gut instincts. exploring their own identities and others identities as well, placing importance in titles and roles and all that jazz, and what parts of this are played into or not is determined by class

wilbur is a prince because princes have a significant projection of self importance. but because princes either destroy their aspect or through their aspect, and are active destroyers, they can often destroy things (or people) if they believe its not working correctly, or if theyre losing control. unhealthy princes can often lash out and destroy others and themselves for perceived weaknesses, and will often focus on themselves. unhealthy princes often start thinking theyre the root of why theres so many shitty things going on. princes in general also try really hard to compensate for insecurities and do by justifying what happens to them with narratives that they deem to be correct. they arent actively malicious, but if they see a perceived flaw it can often piss them off and cause them to lash out

wilbur loses control (and i must note here, he also loses trust, and accepting that you can trust others and that its okay to not be in control is a sign of a healthy prince) and spirals because of betrayal and paranoia, and that only makes him want more control over what happens so that he cant be betrayed again. he tries to destroy his own emotions, becomes distant and untrusting, tries to destroy others emotions by stating his own current worldviews and stating that they cant trust others and that hes going to destroy what and who they care about. however, because wilbur is still emotional and still cares, as a apart of his character, he still often backs out of destruction (or offers himself up to be destroyed instead, "if youre going to kill anyone kill me"), its in his most conscious moments that he shows that hes not as malicious as he wants people to see him as. he sees himself as a villain and as the cause of all bad things, and encourages pursuits of power because he sees control and power as good things

tommys quote of "he treated other people badly because he wanted to be treated badly" (paraphrased of course) works well here for why wilbur is a prince. he destroyed because he wanted to be destroyed, destroyed lmanburg and hurt others and drove them to hurt others (the pit) because he saw himself as a destructive force needed to be taken down. he wanted to be in control of his life, his safety, others safety, of his possessions and of the narrative, and it all swirled into him wanting to be in control of his own death. bards are too passive, they invite destruction rather than cause it, wilbur can be mistaken as a bard because of how he often acts with tommy, but that can also be seen as a princely thing of trying to be in control of who he cares about

also the lying about what he cares about feels very prince of heart lol. bitch saying he doesn't care about l'manburg then staring wistfully at the van.. yeah. he cares. but it serves his goal more to pretend he doesn't. l'manburg itself was a decision driven by emotion, it's an emotional priority, and that's why wilbur cares about it (heart move), but wants to destroy it because he feels like the original emotions he put behind it are gone and corrupted and that he and others no longer deserve it (prince move). as such, he clashes with tommy, who cares about it because he got a family from it (blood move) and wants to protect it and keep everyone involved safe (knight move)

you could argue that wilbur fits classes like witch because of how he manipulates emotions and others but i think that lays way into how revivedbur is currently acting and not how wilbur is as a whole. he's too driven by impulses to be a witch, and i think a witch wilbur would be way more actively villainous than a prince wilbur, however surprising that may sound. princes are destructive sure, but ultimately their downfall comes from whether they trust others or not, and wilbur only trusting tommy (and maybe phil? im waiting to see more interactions between them to see if wilbur is going to really be open to phil or not) isn't enough to save wilbur from his spiral. he needs to learn how to healthily release control and how to trust others, how to step back and snap out of thinking he knows best. also i feel that it's a bit easier to see when princes are full of shit than it is to see when a witch is full of shit lmao, at least from a personal perspective, of course when you're a viewer of the story it's easier to see manipulation than it is when you're apart of the story

Dream: God of Mystery. Controls the enigmas of the mortal realm. Ironically, has close to no power in the pantheon, and is Extremely pissed about it. Minor God of Control, Power, and Thieving. If you and/or a loved one has recently found one of your most prized possessions stolen, there’s a chance the Mystery God has found himself a new plate of meat to play with. Tread with caution, and keep your enemies close. No one likes the God of Mystery.

Schlatt: God of Secrecy. Every whisper you share, he hears. Frequently visits those having affairs, just to fuck with them. Also visits those suffering from addiction. Minor God of alcohol, drug usage, and rams. If you feel as though you’ve become something no one forgives, it’s likely the Secret God has touched your soul with bile. Be not afraid when you die, he welcomes all with a smile and a swig of whiskey.

Techno: God of Trust. Be mindful to never use those around you, he will tear you in twine. Aside from being a God, he also acts as a servant for the Angel. Minor God of loyalty, war, and revenge. The servant of blood is not to be fooled with. A savage beast born from mans greatest ailment: his own dishonesty. Do not lie to a pig, for they will never find your corpse.

Philza: God of Creation. All mountains and streams are made of the same gods tears. Those who follow the Creator are forever under his control, and even in death do they serve him. The Angel of Death, the Blood God, the destructor. Atoms cannot be destroyed or created, and you must get your building blocks from somewhere. Minor God of birds, death, and dreams. Those who hope are often imbued with the spirit of the Blood God. But do not try to escape his afterlife, he’s a firm believer in “You Only Live Once”.

Ranboo: God of Duality. The cost of silken fists is a broken memory. An eye for an eye is what the Dual God lives by, forever in a constant battle with himself. He’s haunted by apparitions of the Mystery God, cursed to have sacred hymns whispered into his psyche. Those touched by his careful hand frequently forget their names. Wrote the 3 Great Tomes, but lost 2. Minor God of memory, cats, and the Sky.

Wilbur: God of Possession. He has his things and you have yours, keep it that way. Those touched by his demanding grasp often hoard and steal. He is defiant towards the pantheon, cast out by his own Father and cursed to roam the earth as a wandering Bard. Minor God of music, explosives, and performance. Any performer or star wears a pendant of the Possessive God on their neck, for good luck. His unfinished symphony lives on in the demigods he raised, and in a siren mistress.

Tommy: Demi-god of Attachment. Before Tommy, the world was very bleak. Only the gods felt connections, and from the Creation God bore a human child capable of caring. He sent him down to be raised by his eldest son, the Possessive God, and to be brought into his godhood by age 16. This did not go as planned. The Possessive God disappeared without a trace, and the Mystery God took Tommy under his wing. Tommy has been cloaked by Mystery, and left to fend for himself with no friends in sight.

Tubbo: Demi-god of Devotion. Tubbo met a lone boy in the forest, and climbed a rickety tower to where a demigod reached for his home. Together they’ve become great soldiers and best friends, working with others to fight back against the tyrants who wish to hurt them. Visited by the Servant of Blood and brought to their knees by the Mystery God, they only wish to find peace alone with themselves. Tubbo has visions of a Secret God, a goat man who leads him to make decisions to favor the very gods he wishes to know. The God of Creation shows distance towards his children, but to Tubbo the most.

Fundy: Demi-god of Trickery. Cursed into a fox body with the brain of a genius, Fundy wanders the mortal world searching for someone who will simply listen to him. Luckily, with the help of the Dual God, Fundy found himself to be a bipedal beast with glowing eyes and great, sharp teeth. He now serves the Dual God and keeps his many tomes in pristine order. Though sometimes, when the Gods sleep and the town dreams, he stares into the sky and longs to find his lost family. Fundy has lately been seen drinking with a man people can only describe as “severely intoxicated, like really man go home.”

Quackity: Bard of Corruption. A humble butcher hellbent on murdering the Servant of Blood, Quackity uses his supernatural qualities to morph his face into another. He frequently takes the mask of the Mystery God, and finds himself the owner of much land simply because he resembles a God. He mocks the Gods, too, creating personas that dirty the Gods names and create propaganda about their intentions. Quackity is very intuitive, extremely smart, and with enough cockiness about him that he can serenade even the coldest hearts with his lovely music. He sold his butcher shop and took himself and his good friend Sapnap on a great journey to find a God willing to fund their operation. And they did.

Karl: God of Prevention. Karl has traveled through time and space trying to stop the terrible things he’s seen, and he’s failed every time he’s tried. Minor God of dance, wealth, and the arts. Karl was so close to resetting again, when a wild bard and an AWOL knight begged him for funding. He... he couldn’t turn them away. He found himself enamored with their jokes and the way they danced around his temple, chasing each other with sticks and small daggers. Karl, for the first time in his eons of living, danced. This timeline wasn’t like the others. In the others, his Bard died. In others, his Knight never left the castle. In the others, he never swung in their embrace and asked them to stay forevermore.

Sapnap: a once loyal knight turned to murder and thieving, Sapnap is a force to be reckoned with. He once dueled the Servant of Blood himself, and would’ve won had it not been for the Servants second wind. For his good fight, the Servant rewarded him with the Axe of Peace, a enchanted weapon created from the Servants very soul. Sapnap sold it to a wandering soldier boy dubbed ‘Theseus’. He followed his fellow Quackity to the temple of Suspension, where they found a lonesome God on the brink of madness. He’s now engaged to said God, along with Quackity, and ferrying him around the world, showing him everything he’s missed cooped up in that temple.

Jack Manifold: The man who escaped the labyrinth, Jack Manifold is as shifty as they come. He was slaughtered by Tommy, and hellbent on revenge he tore his way out of the Creation Gods labyrinth, and started his hunt. Cursed with a capped chain and a broken spirit, even the Servant shakes when he sees Jack Manifold. He’s recently joined the Blood Gods temple, and his triumph in his labyrinth gave him a great deal of leverage. The Blood God himself has given him protection, bidding him to find and kill his youngest son. Jack Manifold plans to do just that, and he’s not going to stop there.

Niki: Niki Nihachu is a woman of great power, protected by the Possessive God and close ally to the Servant. She left her home in ruins and burned the great tree which she had grown to hate, calling upon the Possessive Gods sacred soul to grant her the power of explosion. And grant he did. She now finds herself working with one Jack Manifold and, with the help of the Servant, she’s found the location of the Demi-god Tommy. She plans to assassinate him, becoming the true heiress to the Possessive Gods thrown in the pantheon. She’s had great success, as of late.

Note: in this AU Tommy is one of philzas children, but in a “I created you from nothing” type beat. Tommy isn’t his Blood son, but instead a ball of magic melded into human shape by the Angel. Philza then sent Tommy away to be raised by Wilbur. I came up with this AU when Tommy was still assumed to be Philzas son in canon, and it fits the story well so I’m not gonna change it. Just know: philza is not a “bad dad”, he’s a really cool god who got bored and created a funny little demigod to go and cause problems. He also respectfully bid Jack Manifold, among others, to hunt down his creation bc he’s a Girlboss in this AU lmao.

Also I want to come back to something you said about what Wilbur thinks will happen when he uses his Voice. Because while the entire Eldignvger experience and escape what traumatic and I know that hearing people debate whether or not they can get away with killing you while there’s nothing you can do, it hadn’t fully clicked.

Because the only reason he got out of that was that Eret didn't know that Tommy was learning to use his Voice, thus they couldn’t tell Dream. So that extra card up their sleeve saved both of their lives. So Wilbur would know how important that is. And the only reason they got a second chance to get out was because he found them a place to hide and no one expected them to try and run. So it’s the element of surprise again.

Them the gagging itself must have been scary and traumatic too cuz it’s the one thing he has to defend himself and he couldn’t use it because he got betrayed. And he saw Niki get dragged away and gagged and be stuck behind her soundproof wall. And he saw guards with earplugs too. He knows how easily it can be countered. So it’s natural for his to want to keep his last lone of defence until he has no other choice because he knows who easily it can be countered once you know and because he’s scared of the consequences of using it. Scared of being gagged again or locked up once they realise that he is dangerous.

Side note: with how protective Phil and Techno are about to boys at this point, I feel like they would filp their lid if they every heard the full story of what they went through. Like I might be delusional, but I feel like Phil would get so pissed hearing that Wilbur got gagged.

yes!!! wilbur is TRAUMATIZED and in several different ways! that is a huge factor in this fic for his behavior. not only was he traumatized by nearly getting killed, but he was bound and gagged. his only self-defense was taken away from him completely. like you pointed out, the only reason they lived was because eret didn't know tommy also knew how to use his Voice. if eret had known that, the brothers would both be dead already. keeping the Voice a secret saved their lives, and wilbur isn't going to give up that card again unless he absolutely has no other choice

i love that you also said he could be scared of being gagged or locked up once they realize he's dangerous. that's definitely lurking in the back of his mind too, even if he doesn't consciously think about it. phil and techno have promised to protect them for now, but what if they knew about his ability? would they still want wilbur around? having a siren that can use their Voice around is a huge risk for anyone in the vicinity, and wilbur knows that even if phil and techno don't kill him for that, the consequences of them finding out could still be immense

Maybe the fact that Ranboo admits it too.

Anyway, they are also all of us in this moment, and they are pissed. Because if that happened with Wilbur and Tommy, what if it happened with them too? Then Aimsey has about the exact same breakdown Tommy had. Going through the motions of “I defended Ranboo to Wilbur when he was right” and “I have told Ranboo so much info he should not have been trusted with”, but most importantly “was any of our friendship even real?” I’ll get back to that bit when talking about Ranboo himself.

Aimsey jumps on the bandwagon of forcing the truth out of Ranboo immediately. Because that’s the easiest way to find out if Ranboo screwed them over too. And he did, once and what that one thing was does determine how bad it was. I’m not sure if that matters to them or not, because Aimsey is pissed and it’s a betrayal either way. Knowing what it was will reveal if and how bad the damage was.

But most importantly, a lot of Wilbur and Tommy’s behaviour suddenly makes sense. And Aimsey is a Flosuim politician. That’s their field, that’d what’s important to them. So they would not know the true threat Essempi poses to the princes or how close that threat is. And even if they did, all logic is being overridden by anger. So they let the brothers go, getting info is more important. And they do care, so if the brothers don’t feel safe here, and Aimsey can see why, they should get to leave.

aimsey mostly just heard that last bit. they didn't follow wilbur at first after their encounter. they kind of paced back and forth in the halls for a bit trying to decide what to do. they definitely considered doing what he asked and going back to their room. but then their curiosity got the better of them, so they tried to figure out where he went. they knew that ranboo had been heading back to his room so they wondered if wilbur and/or tommy was meeting up with him, hence why they headed in that direction. ranboo's room also happens to be close to the train platform, so they heard the voices coming from there and walked up just to hear that

poor aimsey had to speedrun the betrayal in such a short timespan while there is literally so much other stuff going on around them lmao. but they were pissed because they defended ranboo so many times, and they were genuinely upset at wilbur for being so hostile to him. but in the end, they're the fool, and their best friend on zephys iv lied to their face. they're not thrilled.

yeah fun fact aimsey had no idea wilbur and tommy could use their Voices, so they were internally reeling over that but decided to just deal with that surprise later and focus on getting answers out of ranboo while they can lmao. and sure enough, ranboo betrayed them.

keep in mind also, aimsey has talked a lot about being ignored by the other floslium ambassadors. they're not included in a lot of the larger conversations about what's happening in the galaxy. their role is limited, and so is the information they get. so that's why they don't know about how real the Essempi threat is (tbh, no one outside the military + phil and techno knew that Essempi ships had surveillance on the planet. that was classified info so as not to induce a panic).

and yeah, above all, aimsey is their friend. so even though leaving sounds like a bad idea, they're more focused on their own betrayal and how hurt their friends must be, so they let them go

And then there’s the venturing out of the personal wing. Wilbur wants to do something cuz he’s bored, Jack does not comment on him leaving the personal wing, but he does try to talk him out of going to the library, because that’s close to his old room, this closer to running into Tommy, except Tommy has probably been training all day.

Then they run into Quackity and Wilbur gets the first step towards realising his this looks from the outside. Because he was trying not to think about that before, but interacting with other people forces him to see how they react and wonder why they do so. Poor Jack is sweating because for some reason Wilbur has not realised the implications yet and he does not want to trigger another crisis, he did not sign up for this.

I wonder if Jack was able to pick out Ranboo and Aimsey’s voices or if he just went “voice I don’t recognize, could be Tommy, hiding Wilbur” or if it was more a genuine “he does not need more interaction or to be seen”.

Anyway, if he did recognize them, he has fair reason to try and keep Wilbur away from Ranboo and Aimsey. Last time Wilbur saw them, he was already halfway through a panic attack and Aimsey yelled at him. Then there’s also the fact that Jack has seen most of Wilbur’s conversations with the two of them, even if he didn’t know what was being said, he saw the reaction, so he would not want Wilbur near either of them.

Of course, Wilbur them decides the eavesdrop and get himself upset over what they say anyway, and Jack is probably learning so much by seeing how he reacts to what information, but Wilnur trusts him so it’s fine. And he knows Wilnur ism’t okay, but he’s worry and probably doesn’t know how else he can express that or what else he can do because again he does not want to set Wilbur off.

And then they go back to the personal wing and run into Tommy. If we look at this from Jack’s eyes, he must have been so pissed. He spent the entire day, the entire time they were out, trying to avoid Tommy. They ran into other people which wasn’t exactly great either. Bt then they run into Tommy where it was supposed to be safe.

We don’t know how Tommy actually reacted because Wilbur was too busy being traumatised and reliving the moment before running off, but I’m sure Jack saw, maybe he can tell him later, maybe Wilbur does not want to know at all. I do wonder if Jack glared at him, not that Tommy would have seen, I think. But Jack only has one side of the story, and very little of that side because he isn’t told much, but me saw Wilbur right before and after the fight, maybe heard part through the wall too. And Wilbur is his friend. I’m just saying, I don’t think he likes Tommy right now.

that entire time they were outside the personal wing jack was listening to everything around them like a damn hawk because he did NOT want them to run into tommy. besides phil, he's the only person who saw the immediate aftermath of that fight. he knows that running into tommy wouldn't do wilbur any good right now.

also, regarding aimsey and ranboo, jack was able to pick out both of their voices but he couldn't tell if tommy was with them or not. because there were multiple voices, and he knows tommy is with the two of them a lot, so it would stand to reason that the two very well could've been walking with tommy and he just wasn't speaking at that moment. basically, jack didn't know if tommy was with them or not, but he didn't want to take the chance hence why he just grabbed wilbur and yanked him into a hiding spot.

jack turned to follow wilbur pretty much as soon as he booked it down the hall away from tommy. he saw a glimpse of tommy's reaction, and he also definitely shot him a glare, but it was subtle because he's a guard and he knows he could get a lot of shit for being rude to a crown prince. as far as his opinion on tommy... the thing is, even if he saw the aftermath of the fight, he doesn't know exactly what happened. he heard some muffled things through the wall but nothing more. he also doesn't know about all the shit wilbur went through on eldingvegr. for as good of a friend as jack is to wilbur, he doesn't actually know a lot about who he was before he arrived on zephys iv. so he doesn't know what tommy said to destroy wilbur so badly, so he'll say he's trying not to make unfair judgements. but, uh, he's also jack manifold, so he's definitely made some unfair judgements of tommy. if he knew the details though he'd probably be a lot more pissed.
