I took a break yesterday to let my hands recover some (I cannot overstate how much I should not have sanded the whole box in one go; my hands feel deeply, deeply bruised), and this morning I brought the box down to the car wash stall in the parking garage to hose the sawdust off.
the cold water knob down there is missing, which turned out to be a very good thing because I 100% would have used that one and wouldn't have found out that scorching hot water washes [this particular?] glue off wood. it is spotless, all for the low, low effort of pointing a nozzle at it. baruch hashem.
I have plopped it out on the balcony to air dry. up next: deciding on a paint color.
I just spent three (3) hours sanding that silverware box I found. by hand. I got all the paint off the outside, which is great, but the inside is still full of dried glue with bits of paper and maroon felt stuck to it and ohhhh my hands hurt so badly.
#is hot water on glue a common solution? I've never had to get anything more than elmer's glue off before#wikihow suggested sanding it or using a blow dryer to soften it and then scraping. or using chemicals (<- a great way to cause an accident)#NOTHING about hot water. i am so glad the knob was missing or i would have gone for a slow and labor intensive method and cried real tears#¶#silverware box project
