'George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece “1984” is getting a new audio-only treatment from Audible.
The Audible original audio drama, set to premiere April 4, stars Andrew Garfield (“Tick, Tick…Boom,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”) as Winston alongside Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked,” “Harriet”) as Julia. They are joined by Tom Hardy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) as the voice of Big Brother and Andrew Scott (“All of Us Strangers,” “Fleabag”), who plays the mysterious and dangerous O’Brien...
Audible’s “1984” is directed by BAFTA-winner Destiny Ekaragha (“Ted Lasso,” “The End of the F***ing World”) and written by Joe White (“Blackout Songs,” “The Little Big Things”). According to Audible, the adaptation remains faithful to the original text, “leaning into the horror of the dystopian setting, whilst going deeper into Winston and Julia’s love story,” the company said. “In a world where love and sex are forbidden, Winston and Julia are the last lovers on Earth.”
Ekaragha said in a statement, “This is my first experience directing an audio drama, and what an honor it was to work so closely with a cast of this caliber. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what Andrew, Cynthia and Tom have done with these iconic characters.”'

im gonna be honest with you guys i have been hyperfixating on the joker 2 disaster recently. ive been watching every single video about it i can find i am obsessed with how insane this flop has been. however some notes i wanna put out that i haven't seen discussed in the 700 youtube videos i've watched:
i understand t-dd ph-ll-ps doesn't like dc comics but i think more people should probably be bringing up the weirdness of turning harley quinn (who, since her inception, has been a victim of the joker) into the one manipulating him and making him evil
is it like. disrespectful??? to just throw the glasglow smile in at the end?? considering heath ledger died??? i ask this genuinely i like. don't know. i know christopher nolan didn't want it to happen so like i'm thinking it was kind of a dick move regardless but
being someone who likes musicals, it's really funny seeing people saying "this movie was bad bc the last one got to steal from taxi driver and this one has nothing to steal from" as if it's not definitely stealing from chicago. which could run circles around it in terms of plot, character, design, musical numbers,
the last thing i wanna note is it is SO funny that a bunch of publications are trying to push this failure onto "nobody likes musicals" when wicked is about to come out and win one elphabillion dollars

I've seen a couple of takes about Disco Elysium being copaganda going around recently, and beyond the fact that DE is relentlessly critical of the police force in general and makes explicit reference to the failures of the system that allow the officers in game to abuse their power, I also think it's important to note that there very literally is an in-world version of copaganda that the writers of the game use to parody that romanticised view of the brutality of policing. The RCM at their inception were structurally inspired by in-world copaganda- their culture, their "fashions, even weapon preferences, borrow heavily from classic Vespertine cop shows." Every investigation is it's own little drama, every officer imagining themselves to be the bad-ass hero of their own crime serial. Detectives name their cases like they're naming episodes of a TV series in a "robust but literary system"; a title that "draws inspiration from snoop fiction and Vespertine cop show staples". They give themselves nicknames to sound like cool, suave fictional officers- Ace, Dick Mullen, etc.- from the cool, suave world of copaganda.
The legend of the RCM's inception, the "point of contention" over its uncertain origins, is even an extention of that; the whole organisation is shrouded in this self-fictionalising mythos that allows for distance that in turn obfuscates much of its violence to the officers that participate in it. They get to convince themselves that they're not abusing their power; they're the hero of the story! The dichotomy of "good guy" taking out the "baddies," a manifestation of the libertarian fantasy of the "good guy with a gun" who does what it takes, just like in Annette's detective novels, and at the same time who rails against oversight bodies like Internal Affairs/'the rat squad' because due process slows down the immediate satisfaction of Swift Justice, despite Internal Affairs existing to protect the citizens from overreach on behalf of the police. "Wanton brutality" from police in their real world is a cold bitter reality but Dick Mullen was "made to crack skulls," "bend the rules and solve cases no one else can," and which version of that story is more comforting to the overworked, underfunded officers of the RCM?
The level of fantasy and detachment required for the cops to still see themselves as the good guys after everything that they do in the line of duty mimics The Pigs and her breakdown too; she parallels Harry so clearly. Both "did right by the kids" in the past, hoping for a better future- Marianne (The Pigs) by looking out for Titus and the Hardy boys when they were young, Harry in his role as a gym teacher. Both abandoned and left behind by the system that the RCM uphold- a brutal capitalist landscape with no safety nets. Both turning the source of their trauma into a costume, a performance, a shield, shaped by "radio waves and cop shows." The Pigs uses RCM items scavenged from the Esperance where they'd been thrown away, while Harry uses the Dick Mullen hat that Annette gives him but both are essentially in costume.
Harry identifies himself with the fictional detective as a kind of wish fulfilment; Dick Mullen is "wicked smart." He doesn't fuck up his cases and when he's sad it's not pathetic; it's effortlessly cool brooding and everyone sympathises. Everyone loves him. His violence- "skull crack[ing]"- is justified because he's a "good guy" enacting that violence against the victims of police brutality sorry "bad guys". He doesn't ever face repercussions; "Dick Mullen won't be sent to the clink for the sake of some legal niceties!" So if Harry is Dick Mullen then his failures, his breakdown, they're all just a part of being a "bad-ass, on-the-edge disco cop." He's not wrong, he's a hero! This idealised fictionalised idea of the police force, this "new, sadly better, reality" that both Harry and The Pigs cling to is "escapist stuff," "receed[ing] into a ludicrous fantasy world," so far removed from the brutal material reality that they're in.
My point is, idk. Disco Elysium is so far from being copaganda. It is a multi-million word long dissection of it, of the purpose of policing, of state sanctioned violence and its interaction with capital and the fallout experienced within the wider community as well as the trauma cycle created for individual officers. A dissection of how copaganda interacts with RCM culture and perception, and by extension how we interact with irl perceptions of police through that lens.
#ouaghhhhhhh disclaimer; i am bad with words and im not sure that i've properly expressed what i'm trying to say but this is getting so long#the cops are not meant to be the good guys#if you think i've missed something here pls let me know!!#disco elysium#harry du bois#DE rambling#marianne leplante#the pigs#actually just one last note- this isnt in response to any one particular thing ive seen but a few different posts comments and articles

Sharing with Aegon & Aemond
Part of Kinktober 2024
"You've started without me," Aemond says with disappointment as he enters your chambers. The three of you always use your chambers, for it it midways between your brothers'.
Aegon laughs, the sound reverberating from his chest through you as he drapes himself atop you, thrusting into you more enthusiastically than he does anything else in his life. "Well, she is my wife."
Aemond scowls, but when you raise your head to look at him, it fades slightly, his pupil dilating from the sight of you enraptured in bliss. "She is my twin," he counters.
"You say that as if it is somehow the stronger claim," Aegon laughs. "But unfortunately for you, dear brother, I... oh fuck, haedar!" He is distracted from his own blustering as you push back into his hips, clenching your cunt as tight as you can.
With a wicked smile at Aemond, you finally speak. "Less bickering, please, brothers. It is too early in the night." It seems that they silently resolve that not saying anything is preferred to taking the risk of angering you enough to possibly banish them from your chambers, so you allow yourself to drift back into your pleasure as Aemond begins to peel off his leathers.
The power to control your brothers so well is only one of the perks of this little arrangement, beyond the obvious carnal pleasures. After all, that was part of the reasons for its inception, your desire to curb your husband's habit of sneaking out of the castle to visit the Street of Silk. "If you will not fuck your wife properly, then I will," Aemond had declared in a fit of anger upon once more returning Aegon to you after one of his drunken escapades.
At once, you and Aegon smiled at him, saying in unison, "Prove it." So Aemond had. Then, not to be outdone, Aegon had taken you with an enthusiasm you had never known. And thus began your twice (or was it thrice?) unholy union.
Tonight, Aegon had grown impatient, and for the first time, taken the initiative to fuck you without your twin present. While it was Aemond you truly loved, you cannot not deny your elder brother is the more experienced, and you find yourself somewhat grateful for his prior infidelity.
But even his superior techniques are nothing compared to the way Aemond looks at you, with more than just lust in his gaze. Nor the way he so gently cups your cheek as he kneels before you on the bed, gently coaxing your mouth open to take his cock.
"Dōnus idañus," he murmurs as he begins to rock his hips in time with Aegon's thrusts. "Ñuhos idañus." Sweet twin. My twin.
Aegon moves faster, his breath quickening and deepening. "Ñuhos ābrazȳrys," he spits back.
Bickering in High Valyrian is still bickering, you suppose. But as Aegon's hand finds your pearl and Aemond strokes your hair, you decided you can allow the bickering, just for tonight.

I’ve been a musical fan for a long while and a Wicked fan since its inception (both book and film.) And, excited for this eventual film release, I’ve taken to listening to the soundtrack. And I just…keep…plastering adamsapple but specifically Adam on ONE song. ‘I’m Not That Girl.’
like, especially these lyrics:
Don't dream too far Don't lose sight of who you are Don't remember that rush of joy He could be that boy I'm not that girl
Every so often we long to steal To the land of what-might-have-been But that doesn't soften the ache we feel When reality sets back in
Ahhhh and it really could fit into some compulsory heterosexuality-laden Adam feeling like he has to be a girl to be romantically attracted to a man, like Lucifer picking Lilith over him is part of that. And the pining and the heartache I love so much in my Adamsapple, ahhhh. Suffice to say this is being added to my playlist when I’m trying to write these guys.

'...Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic, Oppenheimer is now close to kissing its $1 billion mark at the box office, outpacing his timeless masterpiece Inception and becoming the third-highest-grossing flick from the prolific director.
Oppenheimer surpasses Inception, tops third-grossing movie
Christopher Nolan’s historical drama Oppenheimer has now crossed another remarkable box office milestone with $850 million in global ticket sales. With more than six weeks in theaters, the Cillian Murphy opus has now surpassed Leonardo DiCaprio’s action sci-fi Inception to become the third most-earned movie by him. It now proudly stands behind the Batman movies, Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, both of which managed to make $1 billion. Following Interstellar reining the 4th with $ 677 million. Oppenheimer has already beaten its domestic profit of Inception by $292 million.
Oppenheimer, the director’s highest-grossing movie of all time, starring Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, lifted its prominence in overseas markets, gaining $542.7 in 59 countries, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, India, Brazil, Spain, Italy, and Saudi Arabia. Similarly, the movie alone made $310.2 million in North America after grossing over $7542.7 million during Labor Day weekend.
Being an R-rated movie that predominantly talks about intricate and complex concerns in a less flashy setting of laboratories, offices, and political meetings, it has now become the most collected movie, solely owing to the craftsmanship of cinematic wizard Nolan along with intricating performance from Cillian Murphy. Towards, moving to 50 days of release, will probably reach the $900 million mark sometime in the next week, following the successful target of $1 billion.
Oppenheimer nabs remarkable IMAX success globally
Nolan’s IMAX creation, Oppenheimer, has now earned $170 globally alone in Imax screenings. Raking in the fifth highest-grossing IMAX release in Hollywood, including $2 billion from major blockbusters like Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In China, Oppenheimer has collected $30.8 million alone for IMAX screens.
The Oppenheimer now stands as the third richest movie, alongside the $1 billion glow of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Following Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” with $845 million and Vin Diesel’s Fast X with $704 million, leading the fifth position.
Additionally, from the R-rated section, Oppenheimer became Universal’s first highest-grossing R-rated film with $300 million as well as the biggest R-rated film, surpassing action flick, John Wick: Chapter 4 ($187). Thus it was a huge feat from the American Prometheus to tackle all the summer smashes and secure its spot at the top.'

20 Questions for Fic Writers
tagged by @lo-fi-charming
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 82, 83 if you include the one I wish I hadn't orphaned.
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 2,721,477 words
3. What fandoms do you write for? Oh boy. Homestuck, The Magnus Archives, Mission Impossible, Borderlands, Welcome to Night Vale. Some one-offs in other fandoms. First really cut my teeth on The Dresden Files.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? Let's seeeee.
dustsceawung (The Magnus Archives) with 4,600 kudos
a steady hand, a delicate man (The Magnus Archives) with 3,316 kudos
dripping with alchemy (Borderlands) with 2,663 kudos
The Eurydice Suite (Homestuck) with 2,164 kudos
I'll bring the motion (The Magnus Archives) with 2,163 kudos
5. Do you respond to comments? When I have something fun or interesting to say, yeah. I don't wanna just say "thanks!" on every comment so I tend to try to repay the comment with a tidbit or something?
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmmm. See I'm a Happy Ending Guaranteed kind of writer so I don't know. Maybe we float before the sea at dusk because it's technically a bad end?
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? GOD that's hard... I think maybe all the world is earth and water or the Five Years Later ending of The Eurydice Suite.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not anymore. 8)
9. Do you write smut? what's smut never heard of her
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I'm going to choose to interpret this as "fusions" instead of "crossovers" and in that case I have written....
Homestuck/Inception (The Eurydice Suite), Homestuck/Kinda Sorta John Wick (so we don't kill the ones we love), Homestuck/Fallout New Vegas (out here the good girls die), and WTNV/Good Omens (all plans are golden in your hands)
Out of those, I think the New Vegas one is the most out-of-left-field.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? By now, at least 10 times that I'm aware or.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? A few times, yep! Russian and Ukrainian I think.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? BOY HAVE I.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? I despise this question and if this question had a face, I would punch it. I assume this has to be a ship I have written since this is a writing questionnaire.
In my heart of hearts, it's Karkat and Kanaya. I enjoy their platonic love more than any romance pairing....
SEE THE PROBLEM WITH THIS QUESTION is that I... think for me personally, the pairing is a vehicle of the wider story/themes, so I can't say "Oh its DirkJake" because to me the KTOWL DirkJake is wildly different from, like, TES DirkJake.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? The barely-inspired-by-Hellboy AU that I should probably just write as an original story. But I won't because I'm a coward, lmao.
16. What are your writing strengths? Consistency and structure, I think. I'm a tradesperson, not an artist.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I feel like I lack a lot of foundational material that other artists have due to my lack of education and just generally not knowing things. Like, the kind of works I personally admire and learn the most from, I lack the toolset to create myself, which is constantly frustrating.
Structure is sometimes a shackle, and I often feel like I can't execute something truly Artistic because to me, writing is a trade, not an art.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I do this sometimes and lemme tell you, every single fucking time I do, I rigorously check everything.
Like, I recently agonized over whether a character would use Verzeihung versus Entschuldigung in a fic, and that was a solid hour of research. Worth it tho!
I'm of the opinion that if you're just going to use google translate or something, then I would elect to write it as ["Excuse me," he said in overly-polite German as he passed], but that's me.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Uuuuuuuuh ppppppprobably Gundam Wing or something? Way back in the era when you could post smut on FF.Net.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? Could it be anything other than KTOWL? Honestly.
I am taggingggggg @arquiving and @interropunct
