He's just "lazy".

Kind of fuming right now. My mom called me last night and caught me up on the goings-on with my family. My brother works as as maintenance for an apartment complex, and he recently got a new guy to work alongside him. New guy is an Iraq War vet, and as Mom put it, he's "got something wrong with him in his head from the war." Well, yes, that's a pretty common side effect of being sent to war, yes. Okay. Apparently my brother hates having a helper because this guy is "lazy." Now, it's entirely possible that maybe that's the blatant fact of it all. However, it sent me back to a pretty bad time where I had my own mental issues and was told on a daily basis that I was lazy, I had no motivation, I needed to walk the walk, and so on. You know...all the things that aren't helpful in the slightest to someone with deep depressive episodes and anxiety to the point of paranoia. Y'know, paranoia that was developed by being around narcissists, as well as constantly being told that I was being watched, that people were talking about me, that everything I did was being constantly judged and it was my fault how people reacted; I should have thought how my actions affected others? Yeah. All that. Or, y'know, plain ol' lazy? I don't know why I bothered to get upset. My mom is almost 78, my brother is 55. Nothing I can say now will ever change how they feel. They're of the same ilk; they don't want to know or learn anything more than what they already know. But it's a small victory to me that I only said "well, I would consider his mental state and the effects of that before labeling a person as being lazy. If he does have trauma, it's exhausting to go through life trying to function on a normal level" and left it at that. I fumed in my own private time. This way, Mom can't go back to my brother and cry that I yelled at her, even though my voice wasn't raised once. I'm still shaking my head, though. Just lazy. Because fighting your own internal battle isn't hard enough, you have to be absolutely perfect and get up and at 'em on the outside too. Or else some ignorant ass will call you lazy.
