A/N: decided to go totally off the rails and do whatever the fuck i want this week. that's how we arrive at-
jason dean / jd x black fem!reader ft. that's it .... that's the whole concept
——————–
You two meet when he moves to your city. It's nothing new to him. The change of scenery. Of people. He doesn't pay it any attention no matter where he is. The only thing he concerned himself with was finding the nearest 7/11 to the house he now lives in so he can get himself a slushie.
You've got headphones on and you're dancing to yourself. Not paying any attention to your surroundings at all. The colors and patterns you're wearing are bright and cheerful but not overbearing on the eye. Just enough pop to make you stand out against the blandness of a gas station. The colors all look nice on your brown skin like a pretty picture frame holding together an even prettier picture.
He can hear the music coming through your headphones (hazy and mostly unclear except the hook: it's none of your business ) and knows you're ever so slightly off beat in your dancing. Distracted. You're staring at the machine intensely like which flavor you're going to indulge in is the most important thing you'll ever decide. His lip twitches upwards, trying to become a smile. Shocking reaction considering you're currently blocking the machine.
He comes up at your side smoothly, close enough that if one of you moves you could bump into each other but not far enough to be truly invasive of your space. It's just enough to make you notice him. You yank your headphones haphazardly off your ears and jolt out of his way. "Oh sorry, man! Didn't mean to be a machine hog. Can't make up my mind for anything today."
He laughs, moving to pick up a cup of his own, "Don't be. It's a serious choice to make."
"Damn right." You grin and finally make your choice. No choice. You go down the line of flavors and pull each lever. Coke, cherry and that blue that doesn't quite taste like any actual fruit occurring in nature. You step out of the way and grab yourself a straw. You can feel eyes on you. You turn and pause when you see him for the first time ... he's certainly handsome would be underselling it. You blink the thought away and raise an eyebrow as if to ask, "what?"
He gestures towards the slushie in your hand and the look on his face makes you laugh because you've seen it before. "Oh you're a purist, eh?" you take a sip as you start to walk past him, "life's too short to not get wild sometimes."
"You make an excellent point." He doesn't mix all three like you did but he does mix cherry and coke. You give him a smile on your way out after you pay. He watches you as you go.
You see each other again at school. There are three other schools in the area. It's a big city. But somehow you go to the same one. Your eyes find each other in the cafeteria. He's sitting at a table totally alone. You can see your friends waving for you but you just wave back and mouth that you'll catch them later. You go to join him in his corner of solitude.
"Well if it isn't little miss. flavor mixer." he smirks even though for once he's happy to see a familiar face. He wonders why that is even as he leans forward on his elbows.
"Purist." You grin back, "Not that I'm the most observant girl in the world but I don't think I've seen you around here before."
"You haven't. I'm new. My thing is kinda being the new kid." his smirk is brittle at the edges in ways it wasn't before, an almost instant change.
"Hmm well guess I gotta eat here with you then. Nothing makes you a target faster than eating lunch alone at the back of the room like a weirdo."
"Thank you for your kindness." You show him another one by telling him not to eat the food he'd wound up getting (a death sentence) and instead sharing with him your fries.
When you both get up at the end of lunch he's surprised when you loop your arm through his instead of just leaving, "So what's your next class, new kid? Gonna walk you there. Wouldn't want you getting lost."
He stares down at you but doesn't move away, always been one to roll with the punches, "Won't you be late to your own? Seem like the type of girl who hates disappointing a teacher."
It's the truth. But you're also not the type of girl to leave anyone alone. You hate the feeling personally and so you don't wish it on him. All the dark colors he's wearing and devil may cry attitude makes you think he's already used to being lonely. But what are moves for if not starting a new chapter in life? "Maybe you need to get to know me before you decide you know what kind of girl I am."
"Hm. Maybe." and so you walk him to his classroom. Then you pick him up from it later and are greatly amused at the surprise you see on his face when he finds you waiting for him. You two skip gym together and instead talk at the back of the school. The more you talk the more you decide Jason Dean needs a fucking friend. You decide you're gonna be that friend.
You learn about him and he learns about you. Much like him you come from a two person family of you and your Mom. But unlike him and his Father you and your Mom love each other to death. You bring him home to study one day (you are forcing him to do his homework for fucking once in his life). Your Mom gets back from work early and walks into the house to find you throwing popcorn at him from across the table because he's balancing his pencil instead of using it to do his damn work.
Your Mom knows instantly this is the boy you've been spending so much time with. Talking so much about. She's a lot like you in that she takes one look at him and decides "I guess this is mine now.". You wonder if he knows he's already been adopted into the clan when he smiles and gives her a polite little, "Mrs. L/N". He starts spending more time at your place than his own.
You pass the days together becoming ever closer. Sharing secrets. Insecurities. Going to parties. Getting slushies. Late-night movies. Going to the mall and people-watching. Forcing him to dance with you to music that isn't written by people all mad at their dad's. Him somehow managing to get you on the back of his motorcycle and then somehow being able to sweet talk your Mother into not being mad at him when she catches him dropping you off that way. His rolls up his sleeves and sometimes even takes off his stupid trenchcoat to help you cook dinner. Your Mom teaching him how to cook and him somehow winding up better at seasoning food than you which the two of them never let you forget. He becomes a part of your life too big to ever lose.
His Dad says they're leaving. He'd gotten so used to being with you and the little life you'd built together that he forgot about the one he'd had before you. The life on the road. Apathy. Loneliness. Quiet. Anger. Reality hits him like a train and you can already see him shutting down. Closing himself off. You grab him by his face and tell him, "don't you leave me yet, Jason Dean."
You never call him that. Always JD or Purist, a throwback to the first day you'd met when you hadn't known you would change each other's lives forever.
He's going to turn eighteen in three months and the two of you talk. You talk frantically and plan dumb shit the way teens do whenever they're confronted by a problem they don't understand. Your Mom overhears the two of you and once she realizes what's going on she puts you both in the back of her car and drives straight to JD's house.
Your Mom is a real wildcard and you've never loved her more than when she sits across from JD's bum-ass Father, legs crossed daintily and authoritatively as she says, "your son wants to stay here and settle. He deserves the chance to graduate from one highschool that he manages to attend for more than a few weeks straight. Leave him with me. I’ll take good care of him."
Jaws dropped. You're just as shocked as JD but still teasingly push his mouth closed. JD's Father? Never been much of a parent anyway. The most he does is help put JD's things all in the back of your Mother's car that same afternoon. You know he only helps that much because your Mom is radiating bad bitch energy. You high five her once you're all in the car driving away. You don't think JD and his Father bothered to say a real goodbye to each other. He's sitting in the backseat looking nearly shell shocked. You reach back and shake him by his thigh in excitement. He grabs your hand and holds it.
Y'all only get closer to the point that you're inseparable. The guest room of your house quickly becomes JD's room. Your Mother rolls her eyes when she sees how spartan he keeps it and demand he do something to make it his own. He jokingly asks, "Can I paint the walls black?" and she smacks him upside his head.
She comes back the next day from work with a dark grey paint and tells him, "you can paint your room this color". You know it means a lot to him and you two spend the weekend doing just that.
The night he turns eighteen you make him a small, personal cupcake and put it down in front of him at midnight. You also have a slushie for him which you know he'll enjoy more despite all the work you put into the damn cupcake. He's grinning from ear to ear, not a smirk, a grin, "this feels kinda sixteen candles-esque, sweetheart."
"Blow out your damn candle and make a wish, JD."
"Why would I need to make a wish when everything I want I already got?" A moment of surprising honesty. It's not a joke. You can hear it in his tone. He doesn't retract the statement either, or play it off as less serious than it is. His grin has softened into a smile that you've never seen on his face before. It makes you want to melt. The candle is also melting.
You pick up the cupcake and hold it up to him, your voice no louder than a whisper that feels strangely intimate, "make a wish anyway."
He leans in obediently and for a moment the candle's flame flickers over the shadows of his face in the prettiest way. Then he blows softly and the flame goes out. The only light in the room from the moon now. You fall asleep curled up on the bay window seat together. You wake up in his arms the next morning. When you go downstairs to help your Mother make him a birthday breakfast she's shooting you a knowing look that you try to ignore.
JD talks about his plans now over breakfast and your mother smacks his hand gently when he mentions maybe finding a new place to live. “That’s not how family works, Jason. And you’re family. Don’t you go forgetting that just cause' you turned eight-teen. No boy of mine is gonna be running off to live alone when he’s not ready. You stay here with us until you get sick of us. Don’t go leaving just cause you think that's what you're supposed to do. We love you here.”
He looks suspiciously teary eyed and can only manage to clear his throat and give her a stiff nod, “gotcha Mrs. L/N”. Your mother is just as good at speaking JD as you are now and knows what he wants to say is “thank you” and “i love you both too”. She gets up to kiss the side of his forehead and you get up and kiss his cheek. He holds the both of you close to him and it quickly becomes a group hug.
There's a change in how you are around each other. More lingering touches. Longer looks. But nothing happens. Nothing until graduation when there are pictures being taken and you forced JD to decorate his cap to match yours. He walks and you scream. You walk and he screams for you louder. Your Mom screams for the both of you the loudest.
You go to a party to celebrate but wind up leaving early and just walking in the park together. It's surprisingly cold outside for a summer night. He slides his trenchcoat around your shoulders and puts a hand on your cheek fondly. You steel yourself against nerves and raise your own hand to keep his trapped right where it is. You tilt your face into his warm palm and kiss it softly. You don't look away from him the entire time.
A moment of stillness between you two, "Thank god." JD groans before he swoops in and grabs you by the waist to kiss you breathless.
You both come home late clumsy and trying to be quiet but mostly too busy holding each other to really bother. Your Mother, who was waiting up for you both, only rolls her eyes and says, "finally."

“You said you got rid of it?! Why do you still have her number, Nikki? Am I just a fucking joke to you?! I am coming here to talk to her-“ I shouted, pointing my finger at our therapist as I burrowed holes into green hues, “-because you wanted to work on things! This was your idea and yet you are still doing the same crap I don’t want you doing!”
We were currently standing in the middle of the therapy office, nose to nose as our chests heaved in anger. Nikki's cheeks were red, matching mine as his jaw was clenched and my fists were balled tight at my sides. The thunder claps were barely audible outside over our yelling match.
"It's nothing! It's just a god damn phone number, Vanity! You are blowing this all out of proportion like fucking always! She is just a friend!" Nikki raises his voice, his breath hot as I shook my head and smirked in his face.
"Oh bullshit Nikki! I wasn't born yesterday. She's a pretty blonde with fake tits and she has bad intentions, why can't you just see that and say sorry?! She knows about me and knows about Arianna!"
Nikki groaned, rubbing his face "Jesus, Van. You don't know her like I do! Donna isn't like that! We're just friends and it isn't romantic or sexual! You don't need to be insecure over it."
"Insecure?" A confused expression riddled my face as I stared at him, "Are you even listening to yourself? Maybe I wouldn't be insecure if you didn't talk to other women Nikki."
"Vanity! I'm not talking to her like you think I am!! Jesus Christ!" I took a step back when Nikki threw the plastic water bottle in his hands down at the floor, "Just fucking trust me for once and believe me when I say nothing is going on!"
I turned my cheek, glancing out the window at the rain droplets hitting the glass as the fog was rolling in. I sat back down in the chair, resting fist against my cheek as I glared at the clock. I-I just don't understand why he would lie, say he threw it away and then have it again. If he didn't want to do this he should just say so and save us the fucking trouble.
"Vanity?" I glanced at Crystal, "Did you hear me?"
"No, sorry." I mumbled crossing my leg over my knee and sitting up straight.
"I think you two should consider seeing other people for the time being. I thought you two were making progress, it's like you two took five steps back from where we were getting. Now, I'm not talking about moving out and finding someone to marry. Just some dates, see all the options that are out there." Crystal suggested as I shook my head bitterly, "Can you two do that? We'll try this approach and if it becomes to much of a problem the we'll try something else, alright?"
I saw Nikki shrug out of the corner of my eye, "Yeah, sure. I can do that." I rolled my eyes and roughly pulled a string off my jeans, "I'll be seeing Donna Friday evening anyways."
My eyes darted to him as I quickly got up and grabbed my purse and walked out of the office, "Van-" I heard them both yell for me as I slammed the door shut. I stormed out of the office and onto the front steps before I started walking to the car, being absolutely drenched by the pouring rain.
How can Nikki tell me it's harmless and it's nothing and then turn around and say he's going out with her? That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would he suggest going to therapy if he was just going to talk to another women behind my back again? I wiped my eyes, rain and tears mixing as they dripped off my chin. My teeth were chattering and my finger tips were turning numb from the cold as I dug the car keys out of my purse, hearing Nikki yell for me as well as boot prints splashing in puddles.
"Look, I'm sorry that I just said it like that back there. But I think it might be good if we did take a break." Nikki spoke, attempting to catch his breath as I glared at him and got in the car, turning it on and immediately cranking up the heater, "I love you but fuck, we ain't getting anywhere with the therapy Vanity."
I shook my head, staring out the window before I started to drive us home "Glad you already decided this for us Nikki. How long have you been talking to her?"
Nikki sighed, "Just a week or two. I ran into her. Our publicists office is in the same building as her managers office. It's not serious Van, I swear. I haven't done anything with her either, it's just been phone calls here and there and she asked if i wanted to go to dinner with her Friday, and I said yes."
I sighed as I reached for one of his cigarettes in the cup holder, it was a New Years resolution to quit but I think this was a reasonable reason to have one, "You should've just been honest with me."
"So you could be pissed even more-"
"No, Nikki! Out of fucking respect." I snapped quickly, "You could have told me so I wouldn't have been blind sided in there. I feel like a damn idiot." I wiped hot tears and rain droplets of my cheeks, feeling Nikki's hand rest on my knee before squeezing it lightly, "Please don't touch me right now." I shoved it off of my body as I gripped the steering wheel after.
"Vanity, I'm sorry. I really am. I just didn't know how to tell you. But, I think we should consider using the therapists advice and and trying it out. That's all."
I ended up tuning him out. I didn't understand how Nikki could be so, so calm and collected about this. If it was the other way around and I wanted to see another man he would absolutely go berserk. But that's not the case because I don't, I just want him.
*Friday Evening*
~Nikki's POV~
I could feel Vanity's eyes drilling holes into the back of my head as I checked my hair in the accent mirror we had on the living room wall. I smirked at myself before my eyes met hers, "Yes?"
I turned around to look at her, seeing her curled up on the couch with a blanket and Anarchy by her side, "Nothing, you look nice."
"You think so? Thanks Van." I smiled at her as she started glaring before turning her attention back to the tv, eyebrows pulled together tight and her jaw clenched, more than likely teeth grinding against teeth, "What's the problem princess?" I attempted to bite back a laugh as she ripped the blanket off of her and got up.
"What do you think the problem is, Nikki?" She questioned, as she rolled her eyes and walked to the kitchen.
"Uh...is Mother Nature visiting this week?" I smirked as I glanced over, seeing her at the island opening a bottle of wine.
"The therapist is stupid and you know it. What kind of sane therapist suggest to go see other people where one half of the couple is a cheater? It's bull Nikki." She stated, stormy eyes staring deep as she brought the wine glass to her lips.
"To see if we should be together, Vanity. You heard her the other day. I think it's good for us ya know? We never have time away from one another and it's smothering-" I watched as her eyebrows raised, "T-that's not what I meant Van. That isn't-" I closed my eyes when she slammed the fridge door close.
"Ari, say bye to daddy." Van spoke softly as Arianna came bolting into the kitchen with Anarchy.
"I'll be back later sweet pea." I smiled as I picked her up and gave her a kiss on the cheek, "You be good and don't have too much fun without me."
Arianna pressed her little hands against my cheeks and smushed them together, "You have to be good too!" I chuckled and nodded, "Pinky!"
"Yes Arianna, I promise I'll be good if you'll be good. And if you are good, maybe we can take your bike out to the park and ride around a bit tomorrow. Sound like a deal?" I held my pinky out for her as she wrapped hers around mine.
"Deal!"
I smiled brightly, "That's my girl!" I gave her another quick kiss on the cheek before putting her down as she went over to the couch and stole Vans spot. I grabbed my jacket and went over to the table near the door to grab my keys and the flowers for Donna, "Hey, where's those sunflowers at?"
"They're in the dining room? You didn't have to get them for me but they are really pretty.." Van pointed as I glanced over at the dining table and seeing them arranged in a crystal vase.
"Uh-" I let out an awkward laugh, "Those were for Donna..."
I saw her expression change, the faint smile being replaced with a frown, "But they're sunflowers..."
I fidgeted with the key ring around my finger, "Donna likes them too...but uh, you can keep them. I can just stop at the store to get roses or something. I'm already running a bit late.." I mumbled, glancing down at my watch and then back at her, "So I'll see you later?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll be here and I hope you have fun." Van spoke with a defeated sigh as she turned her back towards me. I watched for a moment as she went to go sit with Arianna and cuddle under the blanket. I shook it off before I walked out the front door.
*Nikki's Date*
What a fucking babe.
Nikki smirked, sauntering over to the table as he saw Donna, a tight red dress and sleek blonde hair resting on her shoulders in loose curls. She takes a sip out of a glass half full of club soda and a lime wedge. Her eyes light up when they find Nikki, "Hey! You look handsome!" Her voice was cheerful as she stood up and they gave one another a quick hug.
"Thank you, you look amazing. These are for you.." he holds out a bouquet of red roses, "I'm sorry if I'm a little late, traffic was kinda bad getting over here." He sits down, declining when the waiter offers a glass of wine and opts for water instead.
"It's okay. I was enjoying the free bread. It's good." Donna chuckles nervously a bit, "I hope this is okay for you? I'm sure you're use to five star dining and what not."
Nikki brushes it off, "Oh, it's not a problem-" He smiles at her, "I actually take the family here a lot."
"Oh? Well I guess you should have picked then. That's so sweet of you to take Arianna to fancy places like this. She must be really well behaved."
Nikki nodded reaching for a bread roll out of the basket, "Yeah she is. Sometimes she’s a brat and has the temper of her mom and I. So...it's fun."
"But I bet it's fun to have a little break from watching her right? I know my friends and they sometimes have issues with the co-parenting." Donna expressed as her eyes stayed glued to the menu, searching for her dinner as dessert sat in front of her.
"Yeah, well...we live like roommates kinda and Arianna is like a mutual pet-" Nikki laughs, "But it works out fine at the end of the day."
"Oh! I didn't know you too lived with each other. I shouldn't have assumed but how you were explaining it...but it sounds like a good system you have."
Nikki cleared his throat and took a sip, thinking how he wants that glass of wine after all, "Yeah, sorry. I should have been more clear. I bought the house for Vanity years ago and it's in both of our names."
Donna smiled at him, "It's okay. Whatever is best for Arianna, right?"
"Exactly, how's Rhyan? Is he feeling better yet?" Nikki questioned. He was glad he found someone that had a kid and could understand the responsibilities that come with being a parent, that he could get advice from if he ever didn't know what to do.
"He's starting to. Took him to the urgent care the other day and they gave him some antibiotics. I hope by Monday he can go back to school, I don't want him to miss too much. But enough about the kids, how was your week?"
Nikki let out a long breath, "It was tiring, meetings and phone calls nonstop. The album comes out next month so now we're working on merchandising and how we want it to look. Tommy's...girlfriend is helping." He rolls his eyes and Donna laughs, "What?" He smiled.
"I can't wait to here it. I'm super excited from what you've been telling me. You made that last part sound like it's a nails on a chalk board for you. Not a fan of her?" Donna questioned as she leaned closer a bit.
"It's definitely different. Doesn't sound like the usual Mötley but that's a good thing." He looks at her, "She's just- we don't get along but she's Arianna's godmother so I have to play nice."
"You'll give me a signed copy right?" She jokes, "That's too bad, I bet it puts a rift between you and Tommy and Vanity."
He nodded, "Sometimes it does but she's pregnant now so she hasn't been that much of a bother." He smiles at her and gently reaches across to touch her hand "You'll get it hot off the press and signed by all of us, I promise." Donna blushes a bit when he winks at her and she gives his hand a light squeeze.
They order dinner and some wine, chit chatting about anything and everything. Donna laughs at some of his corny jokes and Nikki's completely mesmerized by how down to earth she actually is despite being an actress and model. She enjoyed being outdoors and hiking, he could rarely get Vanity to break a sweat outside of the bedroom without complaining. She liked volunteering in her free time when she wasn't being super mom and a baywatch babe. Donna was impressed with how many articulate thoughts and ideas Nikki actually had. He wasn't like the dumb basketball stars or other musicians she had met. She swooned hearing him talk about his passions of music and song writing and even at the vulnerability about how his childhood wasn't so great and his sobriety. She heard many, many stories about him and clearly most of that was just gossip she had figured.
After dinner, Nikki paid even though Donna argued that they could at least split it evenly, they were walking through a near by park before going their seperate ways. It was only a bit chilly as sparkling lights were wrapped around the stumps of oak trees and some light music was playing from a street performer. They both had small cups of hot chocolate in their hands as they walked side by side.
"Thank you for tonight Nikki and for the roses. I've had a lot of fun tonight. Who knew rockstars could be so chivalrous and kind?" Donna laughs a bit as she nudges his shoulder.
"Who knew actresses couldn't be snobs?" He let's his free hand brush against hers, "But you're welcome Donna, thank you for wanting to go out with me. I wanna do this again if you do?"
Donna nodded as they came back to the entrance as their cars were parked across the street, "I'd like to do this again too Nikki." She smiles up at him taking the extra step and holds his hand gently, feeling how warm his palm was and the roughness from playing his instrument.
"I'll call you okay?" Nikki smiled, gnawing on the inside of his cheek before leaning down and kissing her on the lips softly. He pulls away after a moment seeing her bright blue eyes shining and her cheeks a crimson shade, "Goodnight."
*Nikki's POV*
I sat in the car, a permanent smile on my face. I think that's one of the best dates I've ever been on. I got a whiff of Donnas perfume on my jacket, it smelt like tulips and fresh linen. I sighed deeply before getting out of the car and locking up. I headed to the front door and walked in, being met by loud music and Arianna yelling.
What. The. Fuck.
I walked into the living room seeing Arianna jumping up and down and attempting to sing along to a Backstreet Boy music video, "Arianna? What the hell are you doing up? You're suppose to be in bed." I grabbed the remote from the coffee table and turned it off "Van!?!" I flipped open the pizza box, seeing a few remnants of left over crust and a carton of melted ice cream as well.
"Daddy! I missed you! Ca-can you spin me around!? Please?!" Arianna was jittery beyond belief as I then saw two empty cans of Mountain Dew on the living room floor.
"No, Arianna it's time for bed. It was time for bed-" I looked at the clock "-three hours ago." I quickly picked her up as I turned around to see Vanity, my eyes narrowing at that arrogant smirk she had plastered on her lips.
"What the hell Vanity? It's almost midnight and she's doped up on sugar." I glared at her as I started taking her upstairs to her room.
"Well, we were having fun and we lost track of time. It's the weekend Nikki, she's fine. Can you relax? She’s stayed up later than this before." I rolled my eyes as Arianna nodded at me.
I sighed, "Fine, at least you had fun. Did you save me ice cream?" I asked Ari as I took her to the bathroom and started wiping dried chocolate and Cheeto dust from her lips and cheek.
"Mommy and I ate it! She said you had dessert and wouldn't want any!" Arianna giggled like a maniac, "I'm not sleepy." I watched as she rubbed her eyes.
"Something tells me otherwise. Come on. Let's go get PJs on." I helped her down as we walked to her bedroom, "Any cookies left at least? You know daddy has a sweet tooth."
"Mommy ate the last of them. She wouldn't share with me." Ari mumbled as she got in bed and grabbed her stuffed monkey. Anarchy then jumped on her bed and laid by her feet. I smiled at her and patted her head, "And Ana had cookies too. Her poop was funny!"
I hushed her, "Okay, okay. It's time for bed. I love you." I kissed the top of her head, "Sweet dreams princess." She told me goodnight as I left her bedroom quietly closing her door shut. I headed downstairs seeing Van cleaning up the mess, "What the fuck, Vanity?"
She looked at me, "Huh?"
"Huh?" I copied as I rolled my eyes "Don't act fucking stupid. She never eats this much junk food so what gives? Is this because I went on a date?" I questioned as she laughed and tossed the garbage in the trash.
"Oh please-" she rolled her eyes at me, "We eat healthy all week Nikki so why not splurge on junk food?" She questioned as she fixed the decorative pillows and folded the blanket before draping it over the back of the couch.
"And you ate all of it? Aren't you trying to diet?" I questioned as I saw an eyebrow raise in surprise.
"Oh, I'm sorry I'm not playboy bunny skinny or baywatch actress skinny." She glares at me, "...and it's a high calorie diet!"
I scoffed, "Unbelievable...I fucking knew it. At least I can give a decent god damn time!"
"You just made a subtle comment about my weight so of course I'm gonna be upset! And good, I'm glad you had a wonderful time."
I laughed as I knew she was lying straight through her teeth, "Yeah, I'm sure you're really glad Vanity."
Van shrugged, "No, really Nikki. I'm happy you had a good time with her. Me and Arianna had a good time too. We painted our toes and took Anarchy for a walk. Oh! And we made the living room into a fort."
I exhaled slowly as I sat down on the couch, I glanced at her seeing her smile as she played her facade well, "Fine, I'm glad you and Ari had a good time too."
"So...where'd you guys go?" Van questioned as I looked at her, "C'mon tell me. I asked so I want to know." She says down beside me, resting her elbow against the back of the couch and putting her chin in her palm.
"Well...we went to that restaurant we always go to with Ari...the one down by the pier.." I glanced over at her, eyes narrowing as she nodded, "And then we went for a walk at that park with the duck pond."
"Sounds like fun. What did you two talk about?"
I laughed, "Vanity, relax. We just talked about normal first date topics but it was nice going there and not having to beg someone to eat something."
"What do you mean? Arianna has a good appetite. A lot better than most six year olds." Vanity stated as she flipped on the tv and searched for something to watch.
"Not the kid I gotta force to eat something other than chicken strips and fries."
"Why are you trying to start shit right now?" Vanity side eyed me, the jaw muscle twitching as she scooted away from me.
"I'm not trying to start anything princess. It was just nice to not a waste a breath on deaf ears." I chuckled a bit as I kicked off my boots and perched my feet up on the coffee table.
"It's cause you take us there all the time." She mumbled, "We never go anywhere else. I've already tried almost everything on the menu."
"That's not true. We went somewhere new a few weeks ago and you still ordered a damn chicken strip basket. Why can't you just eat like an adult?"
"Jesus Christ Nikki, I'm not gonna argue about my eating habits because it's pointless." I stared as she stood up and tossed the remote near me, "I don't want you to see her again."
I looked past her and kept my eyes glued on the TV, "We decided to try it and take the therapists advice, Van."
"No, you decided it for us. I didn't have a say in that conversation Nikki." Van spoke quietly, but I knew how upset she was getting by the way her voice trembled.
"...And I said, in front of you, I would be up for trying. Because what if-Van what if we're not meant to be like we think we are?" I looked at her, sighing and leaning my head back against the couch as I saw tears in her eyes.
"How can you even say that-"
"Because look at us Vanity!! Look at how much fighting we've been doing! All the snide comments and glares! We're just fucking hurting one another!"
I closed my eyes, hearing her sniffle a bit "If this was gonna be the end result then what was the point of New York and begging me to come home? I coulda just stayed there. I didn't want to come back home just to see you going out with someone else. I don't want to do this Nikki. I don't want anyone else."
Van wiped her eyes when I looked at her, her eyes an almost honey color as they always were whenever she cried, "You really don't want anyone else? Or to even attempt to see someone?" I smiled just a little when she shook her head.
"No, Nik. I don't want anyone else. I just want you." She shook her head in frustration and looked at me, "But do you? Do you want me? Can you picture your future with out me?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat. Of course I couldn't see a future without her. The idea of her not in it scared the fuck out of me. She's my whole life, world and everything in between. No one else could ever deal or stick around with me like the way she could. But at the same time, is our future just going to be fighting to the point where we don't even love each other anymore? That we just stick together for Arianna? That we begin to resent and hate one another?
"Just...whatever Nikki." Van frowned and wiped her cheek when I took to long to give her an answer, "Goodnight and I'm glad you had a good time with her. I'm sorry you had to come home to a mess." She mumbled, her tone riddled with disappointment and hurt as she wrapped herself in a hug and turned her back towards me. I watched her as she went all the way up the stairs before turning around the corner.

Trust Me: Chapter 7
Hey look! A timely update! Consider it a preemptive apology to everyone who loves Logan.
Chapter 1 Chapter 6 AO3 Chapter 8
Warnings: GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF TORTURE and JD is a high schooler. It’s relatively short, and marked by ******* before and after. But it’s for sure there. Oh, and some swearing.
Author’s Note: The German translates to “I speak German too, and I know you killed them.”
Word Count: 2190
Tag List: @ccecode @emo-sanders-sides-loving-unicorn @ren-allen @ilovemygaydad @bloodropsblog @funsizedgremlin @raygelkitty @roxiefox23 @thomasthesandersengine @spookyingarbageisland @band-be-boss-blog
15 minutes passed before Logan broke the silence. "I understand that two members of the football team committed suicide two weeks ago. I know that you are new to the school, but it must be difficult nonetheless."
"Not really. I bounce around so much, I don't bother learning names or faces, let alone care about anyone. Besides, I heard they did it because they were gay and too homophobic to deal with it. No major loss there, in my opinion."
"That is… an interesting perspective, JD. I am almost afraid to ask about your thoughts on Heather Chandler's death."
"Sometimes even the shiniest of ivory towers are prisons, I suppose. One has to wonder, though, how much the bullying rate has dropped since she kicked the bucket. I mean, sure, one of the other Heathers is trying to take her place, but even she knows that she'll never measure up." He looked out the window and then back to Logan. "Hang on, I never told you where I live."
"I know where I'm going. What do you know about how Heather, Kurt, and Ram died?"
"If you say so," JD began, hesitantly. "Only what everyone knows. Heather drank drain cleaner, and Kurt and Ram shot each other. I heard someone saying that they used some special kind of bullets called ich lüge."
"Ich spreche auch Deutsch und ich weiß dass Sie sie umgebracht haben."
"H- how could you possibly know that? No one knows that. I was careful. I was perfect."
"Obviously, you were not. If you were truly careful, you would not have said anything about the bullets. You wanted to applaud yourself for being so much smarter than everyone else. You also would not have chosen such an emotionally-driven accomplice. I understand the appeal. We have a lot in common, JD. We both understand that emotion and personal attachments are nothing more than hindrances. But there is that one person who changes all of that. Who makes you want to know how to feel things. But ultimately, they will always choose their emotions over us. I was not completely certain that you killed them until you bragged about the bullets. Killing people who had been cruel towards your person, Miss Sawyer, aroused my suspicions. Rule number one of getting away with murder: only kill people to whom you are not linked."
"It's you, isn't it? The killer everyone's talking about. The Park Puzzler."
"That is the first honest and correct thing you have said all evening." Logan paused, considering JD's words. "Is that really what they are calling us? Disappointing, but not surprising. The best and brightest certainly do not go into journalism."
"You aren't gonna kill me. You said yourself, the first rule of getting away with it is killing strangers." Logan was filled with a savage glee, seeing the terror in his student's eyes, his desperate attempt to save himself.
"In most circumstances, yes, killing you would be a mistake. However, your father is known for leaving town and taking you with him unexpectedly. You have attended 10 high schools, I believe, and it is your senior year? Everyone knows that the killer is punishing people for their unpunished crimes, and how would a simple teacher know what you did? Especially one who does not interact with other teachers, let alone students. No one was around when you got in my car. No one has ever seen us interact outside of the rare occasions you showed up to my class." He sighed when he saw JD reach for the door handle. "Don't be stupid- there is no point in trying to escape. I engaged the child-lock this morning. You cannot open the door from the inside, and breaking through the window is difficult with only a fist for exceptionally strong individuals. Looking at you, I estimate that you have slightly below average upper body strength for an 18-year-old male."
"Well that's awfully rude, teach. So, I'm gonna die. Why? Why not just turn me over to the cops?"
"You are a young, white man who, when you want to, can be quite charismatic. The American justice system is skewed to protect people like you. Even that is predicated on the assumption that a prosecutor would take the case, which is unlikely, given how well you were able to convince everyone that they were suicides. Your kills were cold-blooded with very little motive outside of bloodlust, and you left very little to no evidence. Truthfully, I am rather impressed."
"And we're back to my question. Why do I have to die for doing such good work? You're a killer too. Why should I die, when you're no better than I am? If the papers are accurate, killing me will even up our body counts, so you aren't even better than me on that front."
"The quality of your work was admirable, but it was still wrong. You took three innocent lives, simply because you wanted to. I only kill those whose crimes go unpunished by the corrupt justice system. We are both killers, but my crusade is a righteous one."
"I still don't buy it. I trade in half-truths, straight-up lies, and manipulation, teach, and there's more to it than you're saying. You're gonna kill me anyway, and clearly we aren't to wherever it is you're taking me to do the job. Why not pass the time with a good old-fashioned villain monologue?"
"All will be revealed in due time. I have been reliably informed that people tend to dislike 'spoilers'."
"You're absolutely nuts. You know that, right? You're even more delusional than I am. And that's my self-harm of choice is fucking Slurpees."
"I find it interesting that you truly believe that your obsession with what is colloquially known as 'brain freeze' is less sane than your manipulation of Veronica Sawyer and the cold-blooded murders of your peers."
"Peers? That's bullshit. They were, at best, vapid instruments of the system."
"And for that, they deserved death?"
JD shrugged. "I would do anything to protect Veronica from assholes like that."
"As I would do anything to protect my sibling from a world that turns a blind eye to the crimes of assholes like you. We are at an ideological impasse. That impasse, however, is rendered irrelevant by my superior intellect. Ah, here we are." Before JD could respond, Logan reached across the car and emptied a syringe into his arm.
-
The first thing JD noticed when he came to was the rope around his wrists tying him to a chair. Struggling revealed that his ankles were bound as well, and the chair was bolted to the ground. He was surprised to find that he wasn't gagged. Looking around, he reasoned he could only be in a warehouse, and it was empty except for him and a video camera. He continued to struggle against his restraints, barely noticing when the rope burn broke his skin. He was also hungry, and his mouth felt like sandpaper.
"How long was I out?" JD croaked, unsure if anyone was there.
"Approximately eighteen hours. It is 2pm on Saturday." JD jumped, not expecting Logan's voice to be so close behind him. "You are in luck. Normally, Patton would take a turn with you before I do anything, but they are… otherwise occupied. You should thank me- you will be useless to them once I have started with you, let alone finished. I am saving you potentially weeks of agony. The last one took a week and a half to learn his lesson. Only then could I begin my experiments."
"Experiments? What the fuck are you going to do to me?"
"As many things as you can endure."
"Why? Why not just kill me and get it over with? Satisfy your 'righteous crusade' without wasting time."
"And waste the opportunity to study how much the human body can endure? I think not. In all honesty, I care about the cause far less than Patton does. As I said, you will be spared their particular brand of torture, both physical and mental. I can only imagine what they'd do to you, given the fact that you murdered children, despite being a child yourself."
"We were all 18. Technically not children. Why, may I ask, won't I have the pleasure of making their acquaintance? They sound absolutely delightful."
"I am not surprised that your listening skills are subpar. They have other business to attend to."
"They're with someone, aren't they? That's why you've got such a big bug up your ass about emotional attachments and me and Veronica. It's rebellious child 101, teach. Lash out to get their attention. You aren't the center of their universe any more, and it's eating you alive." Logan flinched, and JD smirked; he'd hit his mark.
"Those who speak of what they know find too late that prudent silence is wise. This is doubly true for children who know nothing." He raised a hand, cutting JD off. "No more talking. Feel free to scream, however. Your responses will be recorded on that camera," he pointed, "and further analyzed later. I tend to get… distracted in the moment."
Logan briefly returned to the shadows of the warehouse before returning with a tank that seemed to be smoking. "This, JD, is liquid nitrogen. You mentioned your fondness for cold-induced pain. Let us see how you feel about it in the extreme. And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest."
****************************
He put on thick gloves and an apron before opening the lid and pulling out a ladle full of liquid nitrogen. Very carefully, he stepped forward and slowly emptied the ladle onto JD's arm.
The first drops hit JD's skin with a sizzle, causing JD to flinch. That flinch quickly turned into convulsions and a scream he didn't know he was capable of making when the stream grew thicker. It burned. Every second was more painful than the last. He was on the edge of unconsciousness when the agony stopped getting worse- Logan had stopped pouring. JD didn't know how long he sat there, face contorted with pain, before he was able to open his eyes and look at his arm. He immediately wished he hadn't. From wrist to elbow, his arm was mostly violently red and blistered. What truly horrified him, however, were the areas that weren't red at all, but were an unnatural grayish-yellow.
***************************
"That is third degree frostbite. Those uniquely discolored areas should turn black over the course of our time together." JD tried to scream, to swear, to cry, but he couldn't. He was hit with a wave of dizziness and nausea when he tried to open his mouth. "Ah yes, that would be the shock setting in. Breathe with me, JD. In for four, hold for seven, out for eight." Logan led him through the breathing exercise until he returned to a slightly more normal temperature. "Well done. Keep focusing on your breathing; I will be right back with some first aid."
"Wh- why bother?" JD asked when Logan returned without his gloves and apron, carrying a first aid kit. "Why not let me die from this?"
Logan gently began heating the frostbite with a warm, wet towel before responding. "There are more experiments to run. Even if this was the only one I had planned for you, seeing how it heals is a crucial part of the process. My goal isn't killing you. My goal is observing how the human body reacts to and recovers from various extreme stimuli. Letting you die would be extremely counterproductive. For now, at least." Logan began wrapping JD's arm with bandages. "There we go. That should be adequate to keep you alive and will hopefully prevent gangrene. The point is to study frostbite, not gangrene."
"Why thank you." JD smirked the best he could, but even he knew that it was, at best, a pitiful attempt.
"You certainly are strong, JD. Most people would not dare being sarcastic in the face of their torturer. Drink this." Logan demanded, holding a water bottle to his lips. "Good. I suggest you get comfortable. I will be back tomorrow to change your bandages and check on you. Can't have you dying before I allow it."

Sunday
"Oh Logan, he's absolutely wonderful. He's so smart, kind, and handsome. He didn't even blink when he learned my pronouns! And he said the most beautiful things about Monet and Impressionism. Aahh, I wish I could stay and tell you all about it and him, but I have to spend some time at the coffee shop- between our work and Virgil, I haven't spent nearly enough time there!" Patton got to the door before turning around. "Oh, and I'd love to know what you were up to yesterday- I called, but you didn't answer or call me back. That's why I had to come check on you before going to work. I'll be back around eight tonight, okay? See you then!" Patton was out the door before Logan could respond. Eleven hours. Plenty of time to tend to JD and come up with a convincing lie.

Everything Wrong With The Peathers Pilot
Ok so I wrote this as I was watching the pilot so there’s probably a lot of spelling errors but just bear with me here
CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER PLOT ISSUES
The episode opens by playing Que sera sera and zooming in on a croquet set on a front porch before going into the house where we see Shannon Doherty with a red scrunchie, all things that suggest that Heathers (1989) occurred and this is Heather Duke now but then they’re like lol jk that’s jds mom
Speaking of jds mom, they have her kill herself by lighting the house on fire and shooting herself, nothing involving his father’s business which messes with why jd dislikes his father
They COMPLETELY switched the characters of Heather McNamara and Heather Duke. When Heather McNamara starts talking in the lunchroom Heather Chandler says “god Heather, are we already making this about you?” But says nothing bitchy to Heather Duke
Heather Chandler is some social justice warrior and it’s awful. We meet Ram when he is in the cafeteria wearing a shirt that says “Remington squaws” with a (very very red skin toned) depiction of a Native American and Heather is like “ummmmm that’s so offensive. I know that kid over there and he is 1/16th “First Nations peoples”” and when the kid stands up to say it doesn’t offend him she yells at him “this isn’t about you” (bonus in the background they tried to recreate that airy chime kinda music from the original and its shit)
J.D. has been in Sherwood for a while. He doesn’t move from school to school because of his dads business, he keeps getting expelled
At the art exhibit (equivalent to Remington party/Kurt homecoming party) Veronica meets this guy named Jacob who they very purposefully dressed like jd (trench coat, dark hair) and then she asks him if he has a car and then it cuts to him eating her out in a car while she sits on her phone?????? I don’t even know?????
Instead of throwing up on Heather Chandler, Veronica dumps a giant bottle of hull clean on her
Jd and Veronica don’t have sex???? They are in no form of relationship so when jd kills Heather Chandler, Veronica has absolutely no reason to stay with him at all which is just SHIT PLOT PEATHERS GET IT TOGETHER
Jd has only lived in THREE states, NOT SEVEN, NOT TEN, THREE!!! They totally screwed over his background with this and with his mom’s Suicide so now he only has shitty motives. Also, his dad isn’t Big Bud Dean Construction, it’s Big Bud Dean Oil and Gas????
Jd and Veronica don’t give Heather Chandler a bottle of drain cleaner, he pulls an ich luge type thing with some “vomit inducing pills Hitler carried around”. Then when Heather Chandler “dies” he’s like oh crap I must have given her the wrong pills but it’s GENUINE. JD SERIOUSLY DID NOT TRY TO KILL HEATHER CHANDLER but then SURPRISE at the end of the episode we see Heather Chandler wake up because she actually didn’t die because jd did give her the vomit pills, the pills just somehow made her pass out which they weren’t supposed to. Also, she saw that Veronica and jd tried to fake her Suicide (they posted her Suicide note on Instagram and she would remember them coming to her house) but then sees that the post got 27 million likes so she decides to not snitch them out because she’s famous but from now on ANY PERSON THAT “KILLS THEMSELVES” AND JD AND VERONICA SET UP TO LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE, HEATHER CHANDLER WILL KNOW IT WAS JD AND VERONICA SO I DONT KNOW HOW THEY’RE GOING TO DO ANYTHING WITH THAT BUT ALRIGHT
You may be thinking, how did JD get Heather Chandler to take a pill? Well, HE PUT IT IN A BAG OF CORN NUTS AND DARED HER TO EAT THE WHOLE BAG IN FIVE SECONDS OR ELSE HE WOULD POST A PICTURE OF HER WITH A NAZI CAP ON. Also on this topic, they had Heather Chandler start gagging before crashing through the glass table but she shouldn’t be gagging, if anything she should be choking from the food and she would have bitten into the pill while eating the corn nuts and it’s a whole mess peathers please get your story straight
At school after Heather Chandler’s “suicide” all of the students are like “omg this is so sad(for the most part, they are still kinda making it about themselves)” and Mrs. Flemming is like “look at all of the publicity about this” which is just??? So wrong????
After Heather Chandler “dies” Betty Finn takes over the role instead of Heather Duke???? AHHHHH WHAT and when Veronica invites betty over for croquet she’s like “Ummm, I’m busy” like wtf peathers you cant make up an ENTIRELY new character and just call her Betty??? This Betty does not have a single similar characteristic to the original Betty except for the fact that she and Veronica were friends in elementary school, like this Betty used to be friends with Heather Chandler and UGH
Okay jd SMILES while telling Veronica in detail how his mother killed himself, Do I even need to explain how wrong this is??
MISUSED AND ALTERED QUOTES
Lick it up fatty, lick it up (bonus, which was followed by: d-did you just fat shame me in public??)
If you’re gonna openly be a flooze
What is your bother wound, Heather? (What does that even mean????)
Corporate monogamy keeps me sane
Big Bud Dean Oil and Gas
I’m gonna be experimenting with lesbianism at (some place) instead of (another place)
SHITTY REFERENCES
The matches jds mom uses to light the house on fire say “hot probs” on the box
At the art exhibit, Veronica and Heather Chandler go to, two of the pieces are a bottle of “hull clean” liquid drainer and a massive replica of the book “The Bell Jar”
Big fun is a chip brand
MISCELLANEOUS
They replaced “very” with “just” and only in this episode they said just 4 times, JUST IN THIS EPISODE
J.D. literally says the phrase “my dear” 4 times JUST IN THIS EPISODE and he’s giving off these Walmart Great Value knockoff type Leonardo DiCaprio Romeo and Juliet vibes and I hate it it’s so weird
Heather Chandler refers to Ram as “the Auschwitz of hate that goes on in Westerburg”
Heather McNamara isn’t even a lesbian! She lied about it to seem cool (Do I even need to explain how terrible and inaccurate and demonizing this is?)
Heather Duke literally says “oh my clit”
Heather Chandler literally says “what the queef”
“Let’s snort Adderall, make out, and get slushies”- JD, again, do I even need to explain?
Kurt gives Ram all of the shit jd and Veronica use at the fake Suicide in the movie to cheer him up (the candy dish, stud puppy, etc) also if you haven’t heard by now, Kurt is gay
Okay, at the 7-11 when JD is saying “a pile of dirt” he looks Veronica up and down liKE WHAT?????
“Sad face emoji, pill emoji, the powerful last words of Heather Chandler” -some teacher
When jd and Veronica are going to post a video on Heather Chandler’s Instagram to make the Suicide more believable (Okay it literally pained me to write that), Veronica says “oh my god I can’t believe we’re doing this, also trim the video it will get more views if it’s under ten seconds”???? This is so terrible (bonus jd responds to this with “That’s my girl” and ew) (bonus bonus after they finish setting up the Suicide Veronica says “come on, we’re gonna be late for school” ugh peathers stop making the show into a massive joke)
FOR LIKE A THIRD OF THE EPISODE VERONICA IS WEARING THESE OVAL SPARKLY BLUE SUNGLASSES AND THEY LOOK LIKE THEY’RE STRAIGHT OUT OF 2007 AND I HATE IT
When writing in her diary, Veronica starts to write “I’m just a … girl who has been manipulated by a guy into-“ which is very true for actual Heathers but then cuts off and says “no that sounds like I’m enforcing gender stereotypes” and I don’t know if that was supposed to be some shitty commentary about the original but WHAT
They tried to pull a dream scene for Veronica where everything is weird but it was terrible, everyone was wearing red plastic glasses and pointing at Veronica and pop music was playing, it was a mess
Okay the Heathers keep doing this thing where they unnecessarily say the other one’s name while talking (like in the opening for Heathers (1989) where Heather Chandler says “no Heather, it’s Heathers turn” but they do it almost every single line and it’s really annoying)
Also I don’t know if this was on purpose, judging by the mental capacity of the producers it probably wasn’t, but after Heather Chandler dies when Betty is walking down the hall with her gang it plays the same music that was playing when the Heathers first walk into the cafeteria and I don’t know if that was meant to show that Betty is officially the new Heather Chandler but I HATE IT
When Veronica goes to jds house after Heather Chandler’s “death” jds dad walks in with a FUCKING SHAKE WEIGHT and they do the weird father-son switch thing but jd gets his dad to leave by saying some shit like “your presence was wonderful but my girlfriend and I would like to engage in sexual intercourse now” and just, what the fuck?????
YO I DONT KNOW HOW THEY GOT AWAY WITH THIS BUT FOR THE CLOSING FRAME THEY JUST SHOW THE WORD HEATHERS AND LITERALLY PLAY A SLIGHTLY SHITIER VERSION OF THE STRANGER THINGS OPENING TRACK BUT ITS ALMOST THE EXACT SAME
Just FYI, this in Arial font size 11 is FOUR PAGES LONG and this is just the first episode
