#why does he look good in the gifset hhhh

i have finished shadow and bone. behold my thoughts:

(for context I've read six of crows, 99% of crooked kingdom, seen a million gifsets and listened to all my friends give me their opinions)

1. freddy carter is a good actor and his demeanor was spot on. however, he did not have the emotional complexity of kaz and i found his character to be more forgettable rather than commanding. i also did not imagine kaz as a white dude.

2. ben barnes is not attractive, hes a generic white dude and i dont know what you all are on about

3. kit young nailed the fuck out of jesper. i was kinda eh about him in the books but damn fuck he nailed him. the perfectly balanced comic relief character. excellent.

4. im like 98% sure the book jesper got hit with was a version of the shadow and bone book. if it was i think thats incredibly hilarious.

5. i would have loved for them to play up inej a little more, specifically her conflict over killing people. in the books i think it was more present and while its there for the first guy she kills, its not really there for the second and not at all when the knifes darkling

6. i wanted to see more of the menagerie and the crow club and kaz's feud with rollins !! show me more of the barrel !! i knew what all of it was cause of the books, but i wanted to see more of it because people who didn't read the books were probably mad confused and also the barrels such a cool place i wanted more

7. mixed thoughts on mal. i dont really know what to think of him because i haven't read SaB yet but my friend said that he was whiney in the books. i did like the very very end though when he and alina are standing by the campfire and he's saying that one day they'll come back and shell tear down the fold, that was good. but i dont know if there's much to his character, he seems a little flat. although i DID appreciate that he and alina were not romantically involved at any point

8. did alina get her scar back? give her her fucking scar back

9. everyone is very very pretty

10. apparently this is supposed to take place in or is based off of like 1860s russia or something? that is stupid and i reject it. this is a magical au. ignoring the stupid parts of canon is my right.

11. alina is very pretty. i dont know what to make of her though? like she's the main character yes but the whole show is just her being pushed around by people which Yes its for Plot but like? hm. dont know. im also a little tired of the Girl Who Doesn't Realize She Has Powers Is Suddenly The Savior Everyones Been Waiting For. like. its very mortal instruments. aside from her unfortunate plot though i think that alina is a good character. she's definitely confused, and her actions reflect that. i dont think that she behaved any differently than anyone else would have had they been in their situation. i want her to make some choices for her own though. she deserves it.

12. nina and matthias? that whole thing was plucked straight out of six of crows. like i enjoyed the two of them, i liked them in the books and i love matthias's redemption arc but i dont know why it was there like why did they choose to take that timeline but then use the SaB timeline for everything else?

13. actually though i think kaz buys inej's freedom at the end of crooked kingdom so they stole a few things from the other timeline. and i think inej's tattoo was supposed to be burned...they really skimped her background i wanted to see more of her

14. wasn't nina supposed to be a tailor?

15. the scene where alina got into the trunk was so funny like gosh wow

16. and the goat!! the goat was the true star

17. can we please see kaz pick a look? please? is that too much to ask??

18. the romance between inej and kaz was so halfassed. like. ugh. and this circles back to freddy not giving kaz more emotional depth. in the books its so dramatic and he has so many feelings about it but like here it was just like. clear intentions. felt really rushed. let them pine and have their issues.

19. and make kaz more morally gray!! he was not remotely morally gray!!!

20. the scene in the end where inej is talking to alina about how she's never met a saint was everything. but again they could have gone more into inej's religion

21. but when inej took out all her knives was hhhh

22. does one of kaz's schemes ever go according to plan??

23. the ending was actually really good i enjoyed it immensely.

so in conclusion, everyones pretty, im disappointed in kaz, darkling is basic, let alina make decisions, give inej more knives, jesper deserves a gold star, and i want more lore.
