Febuwhump Day 4: Hive Mind
I'm sure this is not what the prompt intended (warning for sapient test subjects and non-humanoid child kidnapping):
In the hollow glass with us, egg-children sing. Repeating little minds, little memories for harmony. Simple-sweet violet glow under grays and whites in this plastic place, together, learning.
Flat singers, two legged, pass us singing colorless songs even the egg-children surpass. Ever sensing, carving symbol notes. In harmony among themselves, somehow.
Our mothers heard these flat songs, long ago. The mothers sang of the silence they bring.
Egg-children sing their hatching songs! We sing with them, orange-bright to lend their voices strength. They must carry this first melody we give them.
Flat singers tear the hatchling-children from the hollow glass. Their song is left unfinished! They sing as they are carried, white-panicked, questioning.
The air among the children's shells is empty. Grating silence, monotony, empty sameness, vertigo. It isn't right, to see the shells and hear no simple voices.
The flat singers pass again. No hatchling-children sing with them. The empty songs are worse than silence, sickening slick, stealing light and life.
Only flat sounds, sour, senseless. Once, a child-growing note, so far away and withered-wrong, gray shivering. We sing to them, and if they hear, they do not join our chorus.
The air is empty. Silence slashes, pierces our thoughts through. No whispers of new eggs growing. Our own notes aching, drifting pale green nothing in the hollow glass.
