Look, I understand your point of view, but some things I am confused about:
1) I seriously dont remember ever seeing Allison and Luther calling each other, specifically, brother and sister. Eveyone else, yes. Each other? No. The only thing close to that was telling Claire about "Uncle" Luther, which...how else would she have told Claire about Luther, as opposed to "The Man I Compared Every Other Man to, Including Your Father"?
2) I honestly dont remember any scene where Luther was being predatory towards Allison and pushing for more between them. I distinctly, however, remember several scenes where Luther actually pushed Allison away:
a) When Allison tried to get him to tell her about what happened to his body. "Just talk to me." Luther insists that he's fine and doesnt want to elaborate any furher.
b) In the Day that Was, when he finds out about Ser Reginald sending him to the moon for nothing and Klaus tries to comfort him. Klaus suggests that they see Allison. "No, I don't want to see Allison. I dont want her to see me like this."
c) When Allison is unconscious and recovering from the slash to her throat, Luther actually ADMITS that he pushed her away.
Not to mention all the hints that Allison (and even Diego at one point) dropped that they drifted apart because he couldnt leave the past. In most of their interactions, Allison was the one to reach out to him even as she spoke of her need to get back to her daughter. That's why it was actually pretty significant imho when he had the guts to ask her for a dance in the Day That Wasn't.
Luther never pushed her to stay when she didnt want to, never judged her when she admitted to using her powers on her daughter, and never even resented her for having her daughter and a whole other life without him (except for when he admitted to being angry when he woke up from the operation that changed his body and remembered that "she left him" alone). I mean, he even APOLOGIZED to her when he slept with another girl and she was visibly upset about it, even though she herself obviously had slept with another man. These actions do not speak of someone being predatory towards her, and I'm honestly really confused where people get this perception.
3) I honestly cant speak to the interpretation of black women always paired with monstrous-like creatures, as I'm more used to seeing them not paired at all or even just dumped for someone else. But here, the show took pains to show them developing their romance WELL before his body changed, and even before she knew about said body change. Thus I merely took this to be a "Robocop"-type situation of the woman always loving her man no matter his body change as opposed to "black woman forced to be ape's love interest." But I understand we have different experiences with media.
4) Nah, even those interracial ships you mentioned have gotten alot of pushback. Miles x Gwen? Do you know how many posts I saw claiming they were "glad they didnt kiss" and claiming that they were "like brother and sister" and how people shouldnt be "shipping kids" (when the Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, Stvoe, KND fandoms exist btw) or how they somehow MUST have incompatible orientation?
And Finnrey...WHOO BOY. The only ship I didnt see get mud flung on it was MeraxArthur from the recent Aquaman movie, and that's only bc I didnt go on the tag as much.
So, yeah...it is true I can be defensive of interracial ships, especially when they get hatred that they wouldn't have gotten if both members were white. (For example...I wonder how the comics fandom reacted to this ship when it first debuted in the comics, with the only differences being that Luther's entire body actually was that of a gorilla and Allison ain't black. Probably a lot less hate, I'm sure.) But I ain't as desperate as you think I am.
Why am I seeing “buT thEYre SiBLinGS1!1!1″ discourse for yet another ship featuring a black woman x white man in their ship tag…why
