Tw: me being dramatically poetic
I was reading about the Hanahaki disease thing and I have a lot to say
Hanahaki Disease is a fictional disease in which the victim grows flowers in their lungs coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only; strong friendship is not enough), or when the victim dies. It's something which has been used in a shit ton of fictional work. And as always, I over thought about it.
A love so powerful it starts to suffocate you. That's the sentence I was pondering over today as I read about this. And to add to it, it's flowers suffocating you. Flowers, a symbol of love for generations past and to come.
According to the lore, the flowers envelope the lungs until the person suffocated and starts to cough the petals up. Now I've read some versions in which the flowers actually break into the rib cage to invade the heart and I think that is such a beautiful version, because ahem:
Flowers, a symbol of love, break into the lungs, to suffocate you, and you don't see it because of your lovesick blindness. And then they creep up to the closest organ, the heart, the organ representation of Love, and when they reach the heart's cage (for our hearts are wild creatures, they must be caged), they break into it as if they are soldiers in order to choke the heart. And you still don't see it, because what's left to it? A symbol of love choking the very organ of love? That's like putting a glass of water into the ocean. And you only realise it when you're at your last breath, of how love has teared you apart with such gentle petals and soft pollen, and you understand how love is a dangerous thing. And how much you still loved the danger.
Thank you for coming to my cringe Ted talk I shall go die now.
