I try to, and I enjoy doing so, but sometimes the brainworms win and I don't get stuff done even when I really want to.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Breathless

I don't love this story, but "Hannibal is effectively braindead after the fall, but Will keeps caring for the body and feels that Hannibal is there with him, up until the body dies and Will turns himself in because there isn't any point anymore" probably counts as the most angsty? If you are in the market for a "Hannibal receives a brain injury and he, along with everyone else around him, has to cope with that" story Tina's For Remembrance (Holes in the Floor of the Mind) is a much better pick. And as I continue to think about it, Means of Influence has a pretty angsty ending.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my stories have slightly bittersweet but still mostly happy endings. Part of the thing about that is I think it's really hard to envision a situation where Will is like 100% Happy Happy, his own mind hates him too much and every little scrap of happiness needs to be fought for and then vigilantly guarded. But I put both him and Hannibal through so much that I always want them to be as close to content as they each can be.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have gotten two flavors of Fic Hate. 1.) People calling the five year old kid OC in ATTACHMENT slurs like "r*tard" and saying "he belongs in jail" and etc.

Every time Hannibal or Will fuck someone who isn't each other at least one person decides to Yell At Me.

I think I've gotten the old "you didn't tag for bottom Hannibal!!" nonsense once or twice too, but who hasn't?

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

A little. I actually started Hannishark bc I was really intimidated by sex scenes and wanted to see if I could pull off a short monsterfucker story. I feel like I've gotten better at writing these but am generally more comfortable leaving them sparce on anatomical details and big on feelings/conversations.

10. Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one?

I've got a WRONG TURN crossover series that I'm very proud of here: Bear Mountain Road AU. You don't need to have seen any of the movies to read it, or anything, the movies' premise of "a clan of inbred mountain cannibals waylays travelers" is really just an excuse to put Hannibal (and Will and D, as child members of the cannibal family) In Situations. If I counts as a cross over, I've got a universe swap between the novels and NBC HANNIBAL here: Shiloh

I also have a vague idea for a SAW / HANNIBAL crossover but I've been sitting on that for so long, who knows if it'll ever happen?

I have a question, how did you manage writing a long-fic in a different language? I'm not a native English speaker so I get a little self conscious with my english writing

i think generally, i'm not necessarily the right person to ask this to. i'm very lucky/privileged that i learnt english at a very young age (i was in international school in primary school), which tremendously helped. i'm not sure i'd be where i am with my english now, had i not learnt it from the age of 8/9 years old.

i started writing when i was 12/13. at the beginning, i wrote in french, but i quickly switched to english around 14/15. i think at the time, my english was good (much better than that of other kids my age) but i wasn't fluent. it was definitely hard(er) to write for me in english, but my main motivation was that my mother did not speak it, so i could write on the family computer without her being able to read what i was writing 😅. a very good reason to make an effort, haha!

obviously, at the time, the quality of what i was writing left a lot to be desired (lol), which was partially because i was so young, but also partially because i still made a lot of grammatical mistakes, etc. you talk about self-consciousness - i think that's so much easier to get over when you're young and fearless, and posting your (relatively) shit fics on the internet - much harder if you're starting out as an adult. i think this is the case for writing overall, but being young and a reckless teenager who doesn't give a fuck, helps so much with the anxiety. as an adult, you question yourself a lot more. so again, that was something i had going for me.

that said, i actually think writing in english did amazing things for my english in general. a little like reading: it extended my vocabulary, made me more familiar with the way english-language fiction was written, with punctuation, etc. in a couple of years, i went from being "good at a foreign language" to being pretty much fluent. this was also because concurrently, i was reading in english a lot, watching a lot of english-language media, etc. i don't think it was just the writing, but it definitely contributed. i'm not exactly sure how quickly my confidence improved, but i do remember that when i was sixteen, my english teacher assigned us to (basically) write fanfiction (i.e. continue a short story we'd read in class as a writing exercise) - she asked for a 1 pager and i gave her 10, which means that by then, i was already confident enough in my writing in english to produce that. i remember she really liked it, and said i wrote well (i suppose, again, for my age), so i think by that age, i was already comfortable enough to draft something good in english.

i think the other turning point was also when i moved to another english-speaking country. i moved to ireland when i was 19 and i think that really boosted my confidence and my english-writing tremendously too. i know this is an awfully privileged thing to say but honestly, the advantages you get from living in an english-speaking country in terms of writing as an ESL speaker are impossible to get another way. the way people speak in tv shows and media in general is actually rather sanitised and stilted. i'm sure even in your language, you probably see that too: the dialogue in films/tv is always more polished than the way real people talk. so based on media alone, it's very hard to write in english and replicate reality. and i think the issue is, even if you have english-speaking friends in your country, chances are you guys speak a sort of "international english" together, which IMO is a dialect in itself (the dialect that i personally speak), but it isn't really the way native people speak.

all of this to say that i am literally littered with various privileges and advantages that make it easier for me to write in english. i learnt it early, i learnt to write in it early and at an age where shame isn't really a concern, and i've been living in english-speaking countries for most of my adult life. all of these factors combined make it easier for me to write in english than it is for most ESL speakers.

having said that, i obviously still struggle sometimes. for example, i cannot choose the right preposition to save my LIFE 🤣. you cannot imagine the number of drafts i have where it's like: "is it look at his feet? look to his feet?" "is it: in Hogwarts? at Hogwarts?" etc. i also struggle with dialect. being in an irish environment but writing british english can be a bit confusing sometimes, and obviously within these countries, there are a lot of internal dialects, and that's not even mentioning the US, Canada, etc.

i think the advice i would still have is probably 1) to acknowledge that you will never be perfect/as good as a native speaker. i know this might sound discouraging at first glance, but actually, i find it quite freeing. because you don't have to be perfect. you don't have to be something you're not. because 2) you have a lot of other things to bring to the table. like, yes, your grammar might not always be perfect and your dialogue might be a bit off, but you also have a whole other culture and language, and vision of the world to bring to your writing. ultimately, that's invaluable too. the grammar and dialect stuff are both things that are super easily fixable by getting a beta if you can. also things like grammarly and other such tools can help tremendously. but your background and the richness of your experiences as someone who speaks multiple languages does massively more than compensate. it's not something you have to be ashamed of, it's something to be celebrated! it's something that will make your writing richer with a different vision of life, a world of metaphors, and a world of characters native english speakers would kill for.

and, also, remember that many accomplished writers (many of the Greats) wrote in their second languages. just off the top of my head: Jack Kerouac, one of the most celebrated american writers of the 20th century, spoke french as a first language, but wrote in english. samuel beckett was irish, but wrote in french. hell, there's a whole wikipedia page full of names here! you are definitely not alone!!

lastly, i think, be proud of yourself! be proud of what you've accomplished so far. celebrate your fics and your wins. you speak and write in two language: how amazing! you're not lacking, you're thriving. like, for my part, i'm insanely proud of having not only finished a 400,000 words fic, i did it in a foreign language! people forget that. i forget that sometimes. i try to remember that it's a fucking FEAT, even if my prepositions are always a bit off, haha! ❤️

Hi again! Can you name 20 characteristics/curiosities about Odessa?

Because she's been developing into a genuine character, she's been obtaining other kinds of traits:

1: despite being a hybrid she is extremely strong and durable

2: her hair is not "alive" it's controlled by micro follicles in her headband

3: she lives a long time. a long time.

4: she can be arrogant, but there are characters who are more so and she would mock them because they can't back it up.

5: her brain processes things differently; all the hybrid children can do this. they have photographic memory and can remember every single detail ever seen or experienced. for better or for worse. there's more but it'd take a while.

6: she has night vision. she likes to sneak up on people with it.

7: she would need a powerful iron file to get her nails down. nails can go through anything, which is helpful for her since she's always building things.

8: on that note, she builds and invents things quite often, or rather she tries to improve what already exists. her main things of invention are medicines and vaccines that she hopes to use to eradicate all form of disease. (aka she's not an antivaxxer).

9: she is banned from several planets in the future.

10: the animal that represents her all-around would be an orca.

11: she was formerly an ace/aro person, but she developed into demi.

12: her pronouns are anything but she/her is the most convenient.

13: she knows how to cook, but prefers the easy microwavable stuff. she does, indeed, prefer instant noodles and junk food.

14: she collects rare artifacts, species, etc. throughout her travels and eventually develops her own personal zoos or museums dedicated to preservation.

15: she has hundreds of thousands of cousins. while in the fanfic we tried to be conservative with the number of "uncles" that she had, we said fuck it on the original narrative and she has about a million uncles. granted not all of them have children, but many do while they try to move on from being an army.

16: with that, her paternal lineage is functionally extinct. if anyone tried to have children that was that species, it would only be through incest over years and years.

17: her best friends are still Tristan and Hydrangea, the seamista and scorfuma children respectively. they have been developing into their own people too so things won't be too recognizable anymore, at least for the parents. the kids haven't had much change.

18: in our version, she has an adopted older brother but no one has met him yet as a reader.

19: her spaceship is named Celeste as it was in the fanfic, and she uses it all the time. she does consider it to be a pet.

20: she has two romantic relationships throughout her entire lifespan. of note, she is not sex-repulsed. if someone asked her for sex, she's not opposed as long as she finds the person interesting. boring people are not her thing, but it takes a real connection to pursue a romance.

What? Am I finally rewatching season 3 of Stranger things? And is this me watching s3e1? Yes, yes it is. Why did I take so much time between seasons 2 and 3? Broken brain, innit?

1.) I understand they must have done so much work for the opening sequence of the Russian scientists turning the keys and starting up the thing that spins and does electric shit and opens a portal but I’m mostly focused on how there’s a noticeable difference between the portals and tentacles/vines between each season. Like really obvious if you’re watching them as closely together as I have been lately.

2.) I forgot the machine fucking explodes after failing to hold a gate open and they slow mo a bunch of randos dying.

3.) I also forgot how absolutely cartoonish the Russians are in this. That soldier went full Darth Vader on a random scientist for no fucking reason. God, the Duffers are boring.

4.) Oh yeah, this is the season when Hopper becomes annoying.

5.) Steve is adorable in his cute little Scoops Ahoy outfit. His shorts are longer than the kids’ shorts are. How do people think those shorts are slutty? Literally even Mike is wearing shorter shorts than Steve.

6.) I forgot there’s a power outage to the mall in episode 1. IDK how since Steve flipping the light switch a bunch and Robin calling him dingus for the first time in the show is referenced by like so many steddie writers.

7.) I forgot that dirt moving on its own is a plot point here.

8.) ‘Let there be light’. Steve Harrington is a dweeb.

13.) I forgot all of Dustin’s toys lure him out thanks to El and it causes Dustin to spray Lucas in the eyes with hairspray for like a full 15 seconds.

14.) I want to force feed Billy Hargrove his own goddamn hair. Karen Wheeler, I still think you probably have really shitty politics but you deserve better than Billy.

15.) Hopper seems to have forgotten literally all his character development from season 2 just so Duffers can do the overprotective dad bit. Like what the fuck do you mean Hopper doesn’t know what a heart to heart is? I’ve seen the flashbacks to how he interacted with Sara. I saw the goddamn time he contacted El over the radio to apologize for being a shithead at the end of season 2!!!!!!!! Please stop acting like this grown ass man doesn’t understand what an apology is at this point.

As a Children’s Story for Children: Percy Jackson and the Olympians-- #1, The Lightning Thief

Age I was told midge should be: 6-8 

Quick review: This one is for the girlies that get into Greek myths when they’re 8, huh? Enjoyable! I would have zero problem with Midge getting into this. 

Longer review:

So I was 18 or 19 when Percy Jackson first came out, far beyond reading a book like that, and thus, while I’ve HEARD a lot of people talk about how good it is, it was never something I experienced for myself. 

It’s hard, of course, to imagine how you might have experienced something as a kid, but that was in fact the brief for this whole thing. I think I would have loved this in the 6-8 range. It would have been the perfect level of difficulty for me, and I wouldn’t have been canny enough yet for its mysteries to seem obvious. 

It was so much fun reading the little drops about who a god was, and laughing because of course to an adult it’s so obvious but it’s set up to be just hard enough for kids that they feel clever if they figure it out. I was rubbing my little goblin hands together and laughing during all the medusa stuff, when Ares came into the diner, all that. Loved it, I think that’s such fun and such a great way to set these things up. 

The details of how the Gods are handled is some of the best stuff. Loved the bit with Charon, particularly. I would say that’s where this book really shines, is in humanizing the gods. 

Delighted by the fact that we don’t have a woobie Hades in this. I know penudulums are what they are, and I don’t need or even necessarily want full mustache twirling Hades, but I did not realize how fucking sick to death I was of the currently-popular uwu internet take on Hades until I was not forced to deal with it in this book. 

Howl laughed at how Riordan literally goes, “Mount Olympus is in the US now, because that’sd where fucking everything is happening and also I’m the author. Deal with it.” King energy. We love it. 

I actually AM a little surprised at the positive reception from tumblr given the…anti-ADHD meds bent of the book. Don’t misunderstand me, I was totally fine with it, as I am, myself, a little maybe not quite anti-medication, but annoyed by the fact that it’s often represented as the only option, and my feelings often mirror Riordan’s sense of, ‘They want to medicate you because they want you to shut up and sit down, more than they want you to be happy” I mean literally Annabeth says “Of course they want you medicated, so you won’t notice” Again, not a problem for me! But I was surprised there’s not some kinda wild ass uproar given the very very pro-med vibe online. 

As an ADHD girlie myself, I did roll my eyes a little bit at the “ADHD is because you’re the child of a God, and you’re just so special and quick and marvelous” but I remind myself that 2005 was a different time and I’m not sure I ever heard anything positive said about my ADHD back then. Also I love that Annabeth is also brave and impulsive and quick. I love it when women with ADHD are allowed to be that way instead of just being daydreamers or whatever, the number of times I’ve heard ~only boys are hyperactive~ while I’m jumping off a roof just to see how it feels is annoying as fuck to me personally, so, let Annabeth be out of her mind, as a treat. 

I was a little frustrated by the end of the book. Ares is being a dick about it, sure, great, and we find out that Kronos was sort of “THE REAL VILLAIN” but it feels very…unfinished? Like I knwo it’s a series, but there was something about the end where it didn’t feel like it tied up at all, but nor was it the sort of thing that felt like the end of a miniseries episode, you know? That sense of, “this story is finished, here’s the first five seconds of the next one” sort of thing. Like the end of The Golden Compass*, is really good at that. This was just a sort of gentle trailing off, to me. 

Overall lesson teaching: Other than “don’t be a coward” I’m not sure I mined a lot of lessons for Jewlet to learn from the book. This might be something I’d see on a reread, because the first time you read something is always the most surface, but also I can usually pick up on what I think is being reinforced by a story the first go. It’s a very stock on-rails fantasy hero story in this way: Be loyal to your friends. Be brave. Etc. So it’s not particularly special in that regard. 

In all, I’d be happy to have Midge get into this series assuming it doesn’t go completely off the rails or anything! I don’t know if I’d make a special effort ot have her read them, but if she starts getting into fantasy books, I would definitely present them as an option. 

*The Golden Compass is a better title than Northern Lights. You can get shirty about it being the American Title so it must inherently suck if you want, but it fits thematically with the rest of the titles far better than Northern Lights and creates cohesion within the series. It also is a more engaging title. Like, I’ll do with you on the Philosopher’s stone thing, but naw, The Golden Compass is right.

What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far? im a sucker for sulani so island living for EP? although the mermaids deserved better, big cottage stan but wish goats and horses were on it so not on the podium & get together still has the best world; paranormal stuff pack by faaaaar, it was the least cash grabby SP ever i thought i was dreaming when they didnt call it a gamepack

I love the energy and all and I don’t want to offend but as a Muslim girl i can tell you that it is literally haram to identify as anything other than your god given gender. Like I’m not trying to be rude and I’m glad that there a respectful supportive people out there but if you’re looking at the Quran and other islamic book you’ll find stories about how its considered haram. Accepting the islam religion means accepting everything and dedicating yourself to it you can’t just pick and choose.

okay first of all nowhere did i say that I identify as Muslim. i get that it was ambiguous tho so its cool. to clarify,, I am personally not Muslim but I kind of have to act like one so I don't get kicked to the streets or some shit lol and maybe I'm a bit of a coward idkkk but anyways

I would be interested to know what other Islamic books ur talking about btw, but I'm pretty sure the quran doesn't mention being trans anywhere at all. in fact I'm pretty certain, I've read it multiple times with translation and commentary interpretations and anyway being trans wasn't really a 'known' thing back then? bcuz obviously patriarchy and gender roles n segregation blah blah was wayyyy more yk. shit I forgot the word. uhhh yk like prevalent?? ofc the quran does mention a shitton about gender roles,, so yk men r the breadwinners, women raise the kids and keep house and be good wives etc. and also remember the big important fact:: GENDER AND SEX R DIFFERENT THINGS!!! meaning technically u cant be 'born' a gender (omfg my keyboard hates me imagine a question mark here) ur born with certain genitals and society assigns u a gender based on that . sounds a bit fucked when u put it like that actually but anyway back when the quran was being revealed this wasn't a known thing cuz yk they didn't have studies on this stuff,, and yea ur probably gonna say 'but the quran came from allah and he knows everything' well the fact of the matter is he either forgot or smth idk I don't speak for God but trans people definitely exist that's a fact we know so yeah. oh I should come back to my point which was, even with the quran saying those things about what ur supposed to do based on whats in ur pants which is crazy outdated anyway it doesn't take gender ≠ sex into consideration either soo ye that's the most it could've said about being trans and that not very valid anymore rip and that's not even mentioning non-binary people

and anyway Islam is literally all about acceptance and respect and everything so idk it would probably be better if u didn't go around telling ppl they're 'literally haram' for being trans or gay or any typa queer bcuz its literally not our choice (insert question marks) believe me I would fucking love to be comfortable in my 'female' body but I cant no matter how much I try to force myself so I'm sorry dude. no one would choose to be stuck in a situation like this. personally, I believe Islam needs a super massive reformation. well not Islam exactly, but a lot of things said in the quran r outdated wildly now, while a lot of it will also always be relevant, eg. everyone being equal and yk give to the poor etc. i have absolutely nothing against Muslims (I have it against my family for being so forceful about religion - different thing) yall r super cool and ik being a Muslim girl isn't easy believe me, but genuinely seeing Muslim people around and yk, just existing in wider society outside of Islamic spaces makes me feel so proud of where I came from even if its not been the best experience. have u seen the show We are Lady Parts (question mark) its about an all female Muslim punk band and there's only six episodes I literally watched it all today but the message of it is what I'm trying to get to you. u don't have to be the perfect pious wife to be considered a 'good Muslim',, there are so many ways u can show faith. you don't have to be a big strong man who can handle all pain with ease while single-handedly providing for a family either.

anyways peace out that sure was a journey lol and I definitely have forgot some of the things I wanted to say but yea that's all don't forget to like and subscribe &lt;3

A couple of posts ago I dropped an excerpt of the Introduction of Small Victories Season 1 Episode 8 Draft 3. It was cute and I enjoyed it, but as I read the rest of the episode I was like, huh this is a fun one!

I ended up writing five more drafts of episode 8, and we took out a lot of characters and plot elements from this draft round, but I still think it's full of fun and interesting character moments, some of which get recycled into Season 2.

So, go on and read ahead! [CW: Mentions of Drug Abuse, Frank Talk Of Death And Suicide]

MARISOL: Stop.

(The two stop walking)

MARISOL: This is his place. 

OLIVER: I gotta admit, the son of a bitch has great landscaping. 

MARISOL: Look, just stay here-

OLIVER: No, way. What if he does some weird shit in there and you need back up?

MARISOL: If I’m not out in like 10 minutes you can come in. 

OLIVER: Fine. 

(Marisol walks up the steps and knocks on the door. Aaron can be heard walking and then he cracks it open.)

AARON: Who fucked up your nose?

MARISOL: Hey, Aaron.

AARON: And you brought the right hand man. 

OLIVER: Hey.

MARISOL: Can we talk?

AARON: We are talking. 

MARISOL: You know what I mean. 

(Pause)

AARON: Come in. 

OLIVER: 10 minutes. 

(Marisol enters the house and closes the door.)

MARISOL: So….look, I tried to get the money. I even tried to rob a fucking gas station, my nigga. Believe me I tried, but I just couldn’t-

AARON: Can you stop?

(Pause)

AARON: Marisol, did you mean what you said? About me being unlovable, did you mean that?

MARISOL: I say a lot of shit, man. 

AARON: I can’t stop thinking about it. 

MARISOL: Aaron, look-

AARON: I mean, was it really all that bad? I took you to meet my parents. I let you sleep in my bed. Was it all so bad?

MARISOL: I was 17. I was just happy someone could like me. 

AARON: Don’t do that. 

MARISOL: What?

AARON: Treat it like it wasn’t special. 

MARISOL: What exactly do you think it was that we….had?

AARON: What do I think it was? Marisol, we were in love. You were my fucking sun, moon, and stars. 

MARISOL: You really believe that?

AARON: Believe it? It was the truth. 

MARISOL: Okay. Okay, it’s the truth. So, when I was 18 and so emotionally fucked up that I tried to OD on your product and then you chose to sell me more, what was that? Or when I was 19 and I started stealing from my Pops to pay you for the new shit you kept trying to push on me, what was that? Or when-

AARON: Stop. 

MARISOL: That was love?

AARON: You asked for all that. 

MARISOL: I was a baby. 

AARON: You were grown. 

MARISOL: I was a baby. I was 17 and you were 22. I was a kid. I didn’t know what I was doing. 

AARON: So, what? This is all my fault somehow, right? Blame me! Blame the big bad Black man, blame me!

MARISOL: I’m not blaming you. 

AARON: Fucking sounds like it. 

MARISOL: And you’re not unlovable, that was fucked up. You’re not unlovable, but you shouldn’t have been loving me. 

AARON: Right. Cause like, you’d be different it wasn’t for me right. What was it? I’m the worst thing that’s ever happened to you? Newsflash, I didn’t make Sam blow his brains out. I didn’t kill your Mom. I didn’t mess up your family. The way you reacted is what you wanted to do. I didn’t do shit. 

MARISOL: You don’t think I fucking know that? You think I’m some big fucking idiot? 

AARON: No-

MARISOL: If I hadn’t met you I’d be a different kind of fucked up, sure, but I did meet you and the kind of fucked up I am now, this Marisol, this Marisol wouldn’t be like this without you. 

AARON: Okay, then why do you keep coming back then, huh? If I’m the big bad wolf and you’re just some fucking red riding hood innocent motherfucker-

MARISOL: I don’t know! I don’t fucking know! I fucking hate you. If I could kill you I would kill you! I dream about it, motherfucker! I dream about tearing you apart with my teeth. I dream about it and it fucking terrfies me. 

(Beat)

MARISOL: I don’t know if I loved you, but I used to really care about you and now I hate you and that terrifies me. It terrifies me that I can do that. 

AARON: That’s-

MARISOL: Sorry. Sorry, I didn’t mean-

(Marisol takes a deep breath)

MARISOL: I did, like, half the bag and I don’t have any of the money so, like, can we cut it in half and could you maybe consider taking the window off the tab? I know it was a shitty thing to do, but-

AARON: Marisol, you don’t have to pay. 

MARISOL: Aaron, if this is you trying to win points-

AARON: No, Nina already paid for you. You don’t have to-

MARISOL: She what?

AARON: She paid. 

MARISOL: When?

AARON: Last night. She DM’d me and then sent me the money. 

MARISOL: She paid. 

AARON: Look, I’m sorry for not telling you when you first got here. I was just trying to get closure-

MARISOL: Boy, if you don’t shut the fuck up. 

(internal; her mind is racing)

She lied to me. She lied to me. I told her….I motherfucking told her, and she thinks that, so that bullshit this morning about ignoring it and going away, she was manipulating me. She was fucking manipulating me. She was twisting around just so….she’s just gonna add it to her little, and if she didn’t fucking, if Aaron never told me she’d have just kept going on about it. She would have lied our entire fucking lives about it if she didn’t, she thinks I can’t take care of myself. She thinks she’s gonna have to take care of me the rest of my fucking life. She thinks I’m pathetic. Because you are fucking pathetic. I’m fucking pathetic. I’m a fucking piece of shit and she knows it. She knows it. She knows that I can’t do anything. She knows. She knows. She knows. She was supposed to be the one. The one other person who really got me. My perfect fucking fit. She was supposed to fucking get it, but she can’t even tell me the fucking truth. (Oliver knocks on the door.)

AARON: I think that's Oliver.

MARISOL: Yeah. I should...I should go get that. 

(Marisol walks towards the door.)
