My Pathfinder 2e group just party wiped today, due to our general lack of party heals. Our poor DM tried so hard to help us out in that fight, but the dice gods demanded blood. Good fortitude modifiers only do so much with the long odds of the boss recharging its AoE burst literally every round after the first recharge. it blasts us for around 50 damage for every failed roll, half on a successful roll. The only reason we lasted as long as we did was by having three party members having a feature that allowed us to treat successful fortitude saves as critical successes, but in the end... it didn't even matter. We were overwhelmed, and we were too deep in the thick of the campaign to realistically have a backup band of adventurers capable of stepping in to stop the events that would destroy everything.
I shared this with our DM, despondent that he'd killed his party, and said,
"you let the six-year-old win"
[fifteen minutes of silence]
"i forgor to finish my thought. let your inner child be this six year old for a minute and take joy in winning."
anyways thank you for sharing
My friend sometimes brings her six-year-old to our DnD sessions and my husband (the DM) lets her roll for all enemy attacks and sometimes he will show her a few figures and let her secretly pick what creature we meet next. Who needs encounter tables when you have a first-grader around
#we died primarily due to a critical lack of heals#and an insane amount of damage from the monsters#but we also very much were short on heals#we had two players who *could* heal#and they were both limited application heals#one was beacon of healing#so the professor had five charges of “this creature touches me for a heal”#cut to five rounds of variations on “aaand i'm gonna touch myself”#(we were all laughing)#the other heal was goodberries#our kineticist could give a berry to someone within 30 feet#you have to be conscious to eat the fruit.#also the recipient has to use one of their actions to receive the healing#the terrain was also incredibly effective in splitting the party up and hindering our movement options#we fought sewage slimes in the sewers#everything tried to give us “go blind and eventually die” disease#the omoxes could teleport between shitwater tiles#walls be damned#really did a number on the only character able to fly over the shitwater#do damage#and retreat behind cover to hide from the repeated bursts#namely my ranger#who has undiagnosed and very untreated PTSD from losing two animal companions#and animal companion number three#a badass firepelt cougar#who was a quasi-companion to an enemy ranger#bribed by my ranger with food to be chill with us passing through the goblin fort#and then she started following us from a distance#approaching my ranger once companion number 2 died#anyways so the very first burst from the big elemental
