One thing that surprised and vaguely amused me at first was the fact that if you make a tumblr poll pitting a very popular (specifically tumblr popular) piece of media against a relatively very niche thing with a much smaller following, there’s a pretty good chance the niche thing will win.

Which makes a lot more sense when you consider that popular fandoms are typically so full of Discourse and arguments that nobody wants to hang out in the tags. Tags for niche shows are a much more fun and relaxed place to be, so fans of the niche thing are more likely to actually see the poll.

That’s my theory, anyway.
