The problem with my coworkers having seen me absolutely Going Through It while reading The Golden Enclaves is that now they all want to read the Scholomance trilogy, which would be fine (great, even) except if my coworker starts calling it a girl power story while completely ignoring the social commentary and deep morality of it steam will come out of my ears

#the scholomance #the scholomance trilogy #yeah I loved that every important character except for orion was female but I also have more advanced analytical abilities than this woman #this is the coworker who thinks that twilight is feminist because 'bella gets super powerful at the end'#who (by the same token) told me this week that she didn't like mockingjay because katniss had been so powerful and then got so weak #mockingjay wasn't my fave either but at least I'm able to recognize that katniss didn't 'get weak'#she was UNDERSTANDABLY TRAUMATIZED and dealing with A FUCKTON OF GRIEF AND TRAUMA which impacted her character #also this woman is 50. FIFTY.#which I say only bc one would HOPE that being FIFTY and having a MASTER'S DEGREE and WORKING IN A LIBRARY #that at some point in your life you would have picked up more complicated literary analysis skills #but no. twilight is feminist because bella becomes really powerful at the end.#sure. yeah. why not. I mean like no shade if you like twilight but it can't by any stretch of the imagination be called feminist ANYWAY #she liked spinning silver so I think she'll probably like it but I am gonna have to Brace Myself for those conversations #which is ironic bc all I want to do is discuss these books
