As a USamerican I can tell you every place I’ve lived the one constant is I’ve known so many people who dream of getting out and moving away to some magical place that’ll fix all their problems only to find out if you manage to move almost everything is exactly the same because there’s no running away from racism and homophobia etc and all of these places are relatively the same in that how good your experience is really is just based off of how much money and resources you have at your disposal

Tacking this into your blog because I'm not really able to make my own post with my blog's theme. For t-shirts and underlayers, I love Bronson. I also highly recommend The Front General Store, or Buck Mason and Whitesville if you have the cash to spend.
Good to know, I just ordered some henleys from Bronson! I can also vouch for these shorts being great.
Oh man, I haven't have checked Buck Mason in a while and oh nooooo

Some great streetwear from the others, too. I love this pleated denim look:

Something I've noticed about the "Own Voice" thing is that people decide if you qualify as that or not. There's a batshit insane writer in the Disney fandom who stalked someone for years after they criticized them for how they wrote one race solely as rapists and human traffickers, for instance, who has been screaming for multiple years that this person - who they had one conversation with, ever - is secretly white and not a POC and therefore no, their writing characters of their own race doesn't count as Own Voice. And people either don't know better or don't want to object and have an animation adult who named themselves after a movie character freak out on them, so everyone just kind of lets it slide.
You can be a race and write about a race but how much it's "Own Voice" depends on if other people like you and if you ever say, "hey it's not cool to write my race only as evil, I used to be a fan of your work but I'm gonna dip, peace" to the wrong obsessive fangirl then you're Whitey McWhitewhite of Castle Blanc in Whitesville Idaho.
This is why a lot of people stopped commenting on fics, btw. When you see people like this in fandom and you're not white, you don't go, "ah yes, my people", you go, "so if we disagree you're going to call me white and a racefaker and (in the case of this person) stalk me? cool, I'm not saying shit, then." It's just easier not to say anything and risk something being the catalyst for crazy than it is to risk speaking as a POC in fandom these days. White people who claim to be allies will come for your neck in a day they don't do to other white fans and I am too old and too tired (I say at the ripe old age of 22) to deal with their meltdowns and shit. Bc even if you ignore them, they'll still talk about you for years and beg people for sympathy because the big mean POC didn't like them writing their race as rapists and that's so mean and cruel and vicious and no one loves me I'm the victim boohoohoo etc.
This is how you get fanfics with thousands of hits and hundreds of bookmarks that have 0 to 8 comments total. White fragility makes Own Voices unviable and makes being non-white in fandom a fucking chore.
--
I think too that there's something particularly painful about being accused of being A Traitor To Our Kind (ethnicity, orientation, political movement, whatever) that gets under a person's guard even when they know the accuser is a loon. That's why it's such a favorite accusation.

The actual truth about cops legitimately is so completely bonkers that no matter how low you imagine the bar to be, you're going to be giving them way too much credit. Case in point, "aren't police TRAINED in how to deal with people being rude to them?" You say this, assuming that when police are being trained, there's some sort of course on how to de-escalate situations, but that's wrong. Police training involves watching a bunch of videos that actively encourage them to be MORE irrational, violent, and trigger happy. You want an actual example? There's an old police training video that got a bit internet famous a few years ago called Surviving Edged Weapons. Comes up right away on a youtube search. Pull it up, give it a watch. It is ABSOLUTELY BONKERS.
Over an hour and a half of ridiculous fantasy scenarios where random people are surprise stabbing police after walking up to talk them, reaching out car windows, hopping out of trashcans. Suggestions that knives can actually fire off their blades like guns. That there's secret knives hidden in lipstick tubes. Surprise ninja with swords. Knifes hidden in people's driver's licenses. At the one hour mark there's a whole bit about how you can walk into anyone's house and interrupt a Satanic ritual sacrifice. It's absolutely hilarious until you realize that wait, they show this to cops explicitly to make them think that at literally any moment it is actually extremely likely any given person they encounter is going to suddenly try to murder them, and explicitly stating that they should draw guns and shoot people to prevent this from happening.
And of course years of police pressuring media creators to portray them as heroes plus the basic natural assumption that the amount of money the government spends funding them lead people to assume that police will do some combination of protecting you from dangerous situations, preventing crimes, and investigating ones that actually happened to maybe like... recover stolen property, or find the guy with a knife who was trying to stab you and is still in the halls of your apartment building, or... arrest the guy trying to rape you who's still present and actively threatening you when they show up. But... no they don't do any of that either. And not even because they're bad at doing their job. These things aren't part of their job description.
Hell, a couple of those examples (the rape attempt and the stab-happy one) I'm citing personal experience on. While I'm otherwise not inclined to ever call the police, these two things happened to me, I made the call, and... yeah the cops were worse than useless. They put me in further danger. They didn't want to approach the scene. When they finally did, after the danger seemed to have passed, they were clearly fishing for excuses to just leave without doing anything (both incidents made it clear they have this magic phrase "she knew the guy" which apparently allows them to drop the incident no questions asked, and in both cases they made a point of noting that despite, no, both guys being complete strangers who unlawfully entered the buildings. And in both cases... they stole things from me before they left. With the guy with the knife, they didn't even glance around to see if he was still at large before leaving. And these weren't like, bad crime-ridden neighborhoods. These were in generally crime-free whitesville.
And of course, another thing that always comes up when you point things out (it's all over the comments on this post) is a bunch of people in fantasy land insisting that if we just like... completely got rid of cops, we'd be really sorry, because we'd suddenly be in some sort of nightmarish Mad Max world. But like... we actually have data on this. Every now and then police go on strike, and when they do, crime rates actually go down. There was a particularly dramatic example in 2020 (the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone) where protestors against... you know, police murdering people and all, just kinda straight up forced them out of a decent sized chunk of Seattle for the better part of a year... and according to pretty much everyone who was present, the place was basically a utopia the entire time, before police finally forced their way back in.
Cops are just bad. We should not have them. I have yet to see a counter-argument to this that hasn't involved baseless speculation or confusing movies with real life.

Second Sunrise: a World-Class Clothing Store in Stockholm
Truly High-Quality Garments
My wife and I recently had a couple of days in Stockholm.1 And as someone who loves well-made stuff (especially clothes), I searched for good stores for that. I didn’t find many, but the only one I found beforehand, was well worth it.
Other recommendations:
L'usine Bleue was a really cool little store, with only French workwear.
6/5/4 was also pretty cool.
World-Class
To put it into perspective, I went looking for stores at this level in Now York a couple of years ago — and that city only had two stores on this level: Self Edge and Blue in Green.2 Other stores I know about, are Standard & Strange, Göteborg Manufaktur, Blue Caviar (DK), Brund (DK), Redcast Heritage and Tate & Yoko. But they are really rare — so if you’re close to one, and get to try stuff in-store, you should really go for it.
Tumblr media
What’s so special about stores like Second Sunrise?
Usually, when clothes are expensive, it’s due to the brand; You pay more just because the T-shirt says “Supreme”, or whatever. Or, not just: Name-brand stuff typically has a bit higher quality than fast-fashion.3 But the stuff you find at stores like this, is something entirely different. The items are absolutely costly — but not necessarily expensive. They cost what they cost because they are expensive to produce, the materials, construction, and cost of labour in the countries they’re made.
Now, I’m not claiming they aren’t overpriced at all — and it’s hard to say if it’s “worth it”. The items last longer, but does an €80 T-shirt last eight times as long as a €10 one? However, buying one T-shirt instead of eight, is more sustainable — and you’ll end up loving your garments more if you live by Standard & Strange’s motto: “Own fewer, better things.” The items will conform to your body, and you’ll want to repair them when they break.
Some things to look for:
Denim
Tumblr media
Jeans like this usually only comes in one length: Long. So it's a good thing that they offer free hemming while you wait!
A good place to start, would be to look at jeans, for instance from Sugar Cane. In this context, they’re on the more affordable side — and they simply make jeans like how Levi’s used to make them.
The thing about denim, like this, is that it’s at its worst while brand new. This is in opposition to jeans that are “pre-worn”4 and stretchy, which might look and feel great in the store. However, after you’ve purchased a regular pair, it’s all downhill — while higher-quality denim only gets more and more comfortable and good-looking. And I absolutely know which trajectory I prefer… But it absolutely makes it a harder sell, when the jeans might not be very comfortable in the store, if you haven’t experienced how nice they become. But personally, I really like it when clothes feel substantial.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This jacket, from Sugar Cane, was totally uniform in colour when I got it — but now it has quite a lot of "fades", as it's called. I really like that they appear where "they should" due to my body movement.
Most of this kind of denim is made in Japan, and on vintage looms that create a cool selvedge line if you cuff them. The denim doesn’t get better because they’re selvedge — but it is a sign of the denim being good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The jeans on the left are not selvedge, while those on the right are. I think the white line looks handsome!
So, buying high-quality jeans like this, will give you the following:
Jeans that might be stiff in the beginning, but will end up feeling like they were tailor-made for you.
They’ll also look better and better with wear, and will patina really nicely.
You’ll know that they’re made more ethically than most denim.
And they’ll last for a long time, and feel really solid every time you put them on.
Basics
Another good value brand, is Whitesville. They make basics, like T-shirts and sweatshirts, that are really nice. Some of these are loopwheeled, which is another old-timey way to make clothes that is often used for great pieces.
These don’t look that special — but if you feel them, you’ll notice that they’re special. And they’ll stay nice for a long time.
Tumblr media
From the Second Sunrise web store. I think I would've purchased this if they had it in my size!
Notebooks
They also stock some really nice stuff from Traveler’s Notebook. Here’s a nice video on them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But everything in the store is just really nice
… and this includes the service!
They also have some really nice shoes, shirts, and more. If you have the opportunity, and funds, I strongly recommend going to a store like this, and maybe making a purchase. And if you’re like me, you’ll only be able to afford one item.5 But that’s OK, as I think it would be something you’d really love, and can keep on loving for a long time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A smooth train ride from Oslo. 👌🏻 ↩︎
That was the only stores I found, and they only knew about each other. ↩︎
I want to write more on what things should cost later. ↩︎
/pre-destroyed ↩︎
I’ll write about that later! ↩︎

Flooding triggered by Debby traps people in their homes and prompts rescues in Pennsylvania.
Rapidly rising floodwaters from Debby’s intense rainfall have overwhelmed communities in the Northeast, damaging homes, inundating roads, and prompting rescues.
Rare flash flood emergencies—the most severe flood alert—were issued early Friday afternoon for parts of southern New York and northern Pennsylvania, warning of life-threatening and catastrophic flooding. The floodwaters trapped people in their homes, leading to evacuations by boat and helicopter.
Although Debby has moved out of the Northeast, its heavy rain left a widespread footprint of flooding and tornado damage spanning hundreds of miles.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 21043 - Ellicott City MD:

At least seven people have died in the Southeast since Debby made landfall in Florida as a Category 1 storm on Monday. Its heavy rain and strong winds have devastated homes, flooded neighborhoods, and trapped people in cars, homes, and boats. The sweltering heat expected this weekend could complicate recovery efforts.
Here’s the latest update:
Helicopters Aiding Rescues in Pennsylvania: Officials have received hundreds of calls for assistance, including numerous air rescues from dangerous flooding in Tioga County, northern Pennsylvania, according to county commissioner Shane Nickerson. As of Friday afternoon, 80 to 90 people still needed to be evacuated from their homes. Emergency crews have also been affected by the flooding. Helicopters and boats are assisting in the response, and the Pennsylvania National Guard has been deployed to help, Nickerson added.
Pennsylvania Emergency Declaration: Governor Josh Shapiro announced a disaster proclamation on X Friday evening, covering 21 counties. The declaration aims to “provide more resources and streamline the response to severe storms and flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby,” Shapiro stated.
Three Simultaneous Flash Flood Emergencies: Debby’s intense rainfall created life-threatening flooding situations along the Pennsylvania-New York border on Friday afternoon. A flash flood emergency was issued for Steuben County in southern New York, followed shortly by another for the nearby cities of Whitesville and Andover. Hundreds of homes are under mandatory evacuation orders, as Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler reported that many areas are flooded with residents trapped in their homes. The National Weather Service indicated about 40 swift water rescues in the area, and significant damage has occurred to homes, businesses, roads, and bridges. Later on Friday, evacuation orders for Addison and Canisteo were lifted due to receding waters. A third flash flood emergency was declared for Westfield in northern Pennsylvania, where dangerous flooding was also reported.
Life-Threatening Flooding in North Carolina: Greensboro was under a flash flood emergency Friday night following heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service in Raleigh advised seeking higher ground immediately, as water rescues had already been carried out. The Greensboro Police Department reported multiple water rescues due to road and vehicle flooding.
Tornado and Flash Flood Warnings for DC: Several tornado warnings were issued for the Washington, DC area, including one near Reagan National Airport just after 8:20 a.m. Friday. Although this warning was canceled within 20 minutes, it highlighted the rapidly escalating threats from Debby. Multiple flash flood warnings were also issued as rain fell at extreme rates, exceeding 1 inch every 20 minutes. This heavy rain quickly led to ponding on roadways and caused delays in public transportation, with several Metrorail lines experiencing disruptions.
Water Rescues in South Carolina: Debby’s heavy rain affected parts of South Carolina overnight, leading to dozens of water rescues north of Charleston. As of Friday morning, emergency management spokesperson Jenna-Lee Walls reported at least 26 rescues in Berkeley County, particularly around Moncks Corner, where a rare flash flood emergency was declared. The area received nearly 9 inches of rain in six hours, resulting in 2 to 3 feet of fast-moving water on roads. No serious injuries were reported, but roadways in the region remained severely flooded. Weather Forecast For 60642-Chicago-IL:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/201392597/Weather-Forecast-For-60642-Chicago-IL
States of Emergency Declared in Virginia, New York, and New Jersey: Frederick County, Virginia, was under a state of emergency Friday morning due to flooding that necessitated multiple water rescues, according to officials. Located approximately 60 miles west of Washington and nestled in the Appalachians, the area has been significantly affected. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for all of New York as Debby’s remnants impacted the region. New Jersey is set to enter a state of emergency starting at 6 p.m., as announced by Lt. Governor Tahesha Way in a post on X Friday.
Death Toll Increases: A 78-year-old woman was found dead Thursday after a tree fell on her trailer in Rockingham, North Carolina, which had been under a tornado watch earlier that day, according to the county sheriff. Another man was discovered deceased in Wilson County, North Carolina, after his home collapsed during a tornado generated by Debby, according to a county official. In total, at least five storm-related deaths have been reported: four in Florida and one in Georgia.
Florida State Response and Water Rescues: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers have rescued at least 130 people due to severe flooding, including a family of five trapped in an apartment and four individuals with their pets stranded on a barn roof, as reported in a release from Governor Ron DeSantis. The Florida National Guard has mobilized over 2,300 members in response to Debby and has assisted in rescuing at least 154 people. Restoration efforts are underway to restore power, clear debris, and aid wildlife affected by the storm.
Residents Displaced by Flooding
The heavy rains have inundated homes and caught many residents off guard.
Saravana Karthik told CNN affiliate WPVI that emergency rescue teams evacuated him and his family from their home in Avondale, Pennsylvania, by boat after over five feet of water completely submerged their basement.
“It’s completely unsafe to stay there because it’s fully underwater,” Karthik said.
Disaster response teams from the American Red Cross have set up shelters and are assisting displaced residents affected by Debby’s remnants.
“We’re providing food, shelter, and addressing their immediate needs,” Jennifer Graham, regional CEO for the American Red Cross, told WPVI.
youtube
In neighboring New York’s Steuben County, residents are also grappling with flood damage. Ann Farkas, a resident of Canisteo, New York, shared with the Associated Press that it was the first time her home had flooded since she moved there in 1976. While the water levels have receded, she now faces the task of shoveling thick silt and dealing with repairs.
“Like many others, I don’t have flood insurance, so I’m doubtful my homeowner’s policy will cover this,” she told the Associated Press.
Three Children Rescued from Raleigh Creek
Debby’s rainfall has dumped over a foot of rain across parts of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, leading to severe flooding and water rescues as people became trapped in their homes and vehicles.
In Raleigh, North Carolina, three children were rescued Thursday after being swept into a creek fed by Debby’s rainfall, according to local fire officials. The children—11-year-old Andrew, his 8-year-old sister Evelyn, and their friend—had been playing near the creek when they were caught by the swift current. When rescue personnel arrived, the children were clinging to a tree branch.
“It was very frightening because the water was rushing fast, and there were sticks hitting us. It was really scary because, in the end, my friend was barely holding on,” Evelyn told WRAL.

Another child who had safely crossed the creek called 911. “The rescue team arrived just in time,” Evelyn said.
“These kids were very lucky today!” the Raleigh Fire Department posted on X. “Creeks and rivers are high and very dangerous today. Please stay safe, Raleigh!”
As of Thursday night, Raleigh had received 5.35 inches of rain from Debby, with other parts of North Carolina experiencing over a foot of rain, including more than 15 inches in Kings Grant and 11.94 inches in Wilmington.
