The white-bellied caique is a species of bird that is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. They are 23-25 cm long and weigh about 155 g.

In captivity, white-bellied caiques are known as the clowns of the parrot community. They exhibit playful behaviours such as hopping or frequently lying on their backs. They can be taught tricks and can mimic environmental sounds but cannot imitate human languages.

Because most of their diet is fruit, they act as seed dispersers in the wild!

Watching your introductions has me curious, do you think a caique and a green cheek conure are similar in size enough to introduce to each other? My mom has a white bellied caique and I have a gcc, and while they wouldn’t live together it would be nice if they’d be friends who can visit each other when I visit my mom, as I don’t have a second bird right now and can’t get one for about two years. Her caique is a bit more stocky than my gcc I notice, but they can use similarly sized toys (I’ve given mom toys my bird didn’t like before).

Both birds are under a year old still if that makes a difference.

I mean I had a parrotlet and a maroon bellied conure which is a significant size difference, definitely the max I’d ever be willing to go and your ratio is well under that.

I’d be very cautious with their interactions since caique beaks are larger and stronger, their play style also involves a lot of jumping on one another, locking legs, rolling and intense wrestling which could accidentally harm the smaller conure.

They could definitely be taught to coexist in a supervised space doing their own activities or calm group activities. But I would likely redirect play energy and excitement towards toys or people to ensure they don’t get hurt by accident.

You’d also want to pay close attention to territory, resources and human possession. If this bird hasn’t shared its home before they may not take kindly to a sudden intruder. So id ensure to keep things slow- potentially having them meet in carriers outside before entering the home.
