Karaoke Bar (Barry Allen x reader)
HeroesOfOlympus: Heyyy y'all! I'm back again with another fanfic. Again, sorry for it’s shitiness. I would love if y'all sent requests but if you can't, it's fine. I just really want to hear what y'all want.
Description: You meet Barry at a bar, both of you bonding over broken hearts. It's karaoke night and both of you get chosen to sing together, both singing beautifully. A kiss happens and Barry asking you out.
Reader Gender: Female
Characters/Ships: Barry Allen x reader, mentioned Iris, mentioned Eddie
Rating: PG
Warnings: Very horrible description of singing and aching hearts?
Sitting at the bar counter, Barry Allen sat hunched over a bottle of beer, downing it in one gulp.
Cursing his powers for restricting him from the ability of getting drunk, he sighed heavily before ordering another bottle of beer.
Earlier that day he had been given another slap in the face from reality. Right in front of him, he witnessed Iris and Eddie sucking each other’s faces off, exchanging salvia.
Just thinking of that thought made him boil with rage and overflow with sadness. He didn’t know whether he should laugh or cry. He wanted to be angry at the Blonde but no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t. Eddie had been nice to Barry all this time.
However, the image of Eddie and Iris kissing kept flickering in his mind. Trying to push it away, the thought still remained there, a constant reminder to his single life.
Taking another swig from the bottle, he glared straight ahead, anger pumping through his veins. He wasn’t angry at Eddie, he wasn’t angry at Iris but rather, he was angry at himself.
Angry at himself for crushing on Iris.
“You need to get over her Barry. Find someone else, someone who doesn’t pick you as a second choice and would always pick you first. Someone better.” Cisco’s voice floated into his mind.
Someone else? Barry couldn’t think of anyone that could be better, let alone as good, as Iris. Iris was perfect in every single way. Perhaps that was why he didn’t deserve her. Iris deserved someone perfect just like her, just like Eddie.
Heeding to Cisco’s words, he decided he would find someone. Someone who would always choose him as her first choice.
But he just couldn’t think of anyone. All the other women in his life were either just friends or enemies. Plus, most of them only knew his as his alias, the Flash.
Scanning the people around the bar, he thought he might as well make some friends, preferably women, that knew him as Barry Allen and not his alter ego.
All the women in the bar were either with their friends, with their boyfriends, too young or too bitchy.
Suddenly, at the corner of his eyes, he saw somebody plopping themselves down next to him, ordering a beer.
As discreetly as he could, he managed to glance at the woman and he couldn’t help but replaying the image of her in his mind.
She had luscious and shining Y/H/T Y/H/C hair, rosy red lips, sparkling Y/E/C eyes that he could tell usually shined with happiness.
Emphasis on usually.
Glimpsing at her once again, he saw her eyes wet with tears and those tears were running down her face. They rolled off her face, splattering on the bar counter and forming a blob of water.
“I can see you looking at me, you know? You’re not exactly very discreet.” She said, her voice so clear for someone crying.
Knowing that she was talking to none other than him, he looked at her clearly, with his head turned.
“What’s wrong?” He asked and the woman looked up from her drink, staring at Barry.
Gulping, he thought if he had asked the wrong question. Was he being too insensitive? Maybe he came off as rude?
After a moment of silence, the woman spoke up. She talked about how she liked someone with all her heart but to find out that the very person was now dating her colleague. She talked about how heartbroken she felt, like her heart was being carved out of her body and how she never felt more alone.
“He just… Got me, you know? He was my childhood friend and my crush.” The woman mumbled, taking another swig from the alcohol in front of her.
Barry moved himself closer to her, taking one of her hands off of the table and holding it with both his hands, stroking her hand with his thumb.
“I know how you feel.” He said and the woman looked up, allowing him to get a clear view of her tear stained face.
And even know he had only met her a while ago, he talked. He told her things about Iris he had never told anyone before. He told her about his pain of seeing the woman he loved since young sucking faces with a man he knew she deserved. He told her about how lonely he felt, how he would always be single and be the second choice to everyone else.
Sitting upright, she leaned in closer to Barry once he was done, pressing the sides of their bodies together, resting her head on his shoulder. Now she was the one who rubbed circles on the back of his hand.
Barry tried to keep in the tears, he didn’t want a someone he just met already see how broken he was over a girl. However, tears slid down his cheeks, slipping down his jawline and splattering on the floor.
He expected the woman beside him to be disgusted, to push him away and quickly go away, sharing her sorrows with someone else. Who would want to hang out with a sensitive guy that cried over a girl?
Unexpectedly, the woman took one look at Barry’s tears and began to rub circles on his back, whispering kind words into his ear.
After a while of silence, the woman moved away from Barry and they both found themselves missing each other’s touch.
Pushing away a strand of hair that dangled in front of her face, the woman looked at Barry, with an actual smile on her face. The smile was soft and sweet, representing a sun to Barry.
“My name’s Y/N. And you are?” The woman, now identified as Y/N, reached out a hand, giving Barry another smile.
Barry, who was dumbstruck by Y/N’s enchanting and beautiful smiles, took some time to process that she was asking for his name.
“Barry Allen.” He answered back, taking your hand and shaking it. Y/N played the name ‘Barry Allen’ in her head, thinking about why it sounded so familiar. Unknown to her, Barry was doing the exact same thing, wondering why your name sounded so strikingly memorable.
Suddenly, a loud screech sounded in the bar and everyone plugged their fingers into their ears, squeezing their eyes and wincing in pain.
“So sorry for that technical difficulty but welcome to Karaoke night!” A man announced, the crowd turning their attention to the stage set up in front of them.
Regulars of the bar applauded loudly and chatters could be heard, from friends coaxing each other to go up and sing, to couples deciding to do duets.
“Anyone want to come up and perform?” The spokesperson asked, looking at the crowd with a grin on his face. “Or… Shall we pick at random?” He suggested, hid eyebrows raising mischievously.
Soon, the crowd was cheering loudly at his suggestion, shouting for him to pick at random. “Pick at random it is!” He exclaimed enthusiastically, pumping one of his fists in the air.
The crowd applauded him in appreciation and soon, his eyes swept over the people in the bar. At random, he picked a group of females in their early 20’s and they squealed excitedly, going up the stage and starting to sing.
Countless of people went up onto the stage. Those who were drunk sang horribly, those with their friends kept laughing and the couples sang clichéd love songs, staring disgustingly deep into each other’s eyes.
Every performance had a generous round of applause, the better performances receiving louder clapping.
Whilst they sang, Y/N and Barry chatted happily, laughing when tipsy people sang, feeling sad when they saw how in love the couples were and clapping happily along to the beat.
“Okay, thank you for that lovely performance Stefanie!” The announcer smiled, going into a dazed look when Stefanie turned on her heel, winking at him.
“Next, let’s have… That couple by the bar counter!” He pointed over at the counter, Barry and Y/N’s heads snapping up from the previous position where both their foreheads were resting against each other’s, both of them in a deep conversation.
“We’re… We’re not a couple…” Barry and Y/N said together, their eyes wide and their voice defensive.
Everyone in the bar turned around to look at them, raising their eyebrows with a look on their face that said ‘are-you-kidding-me?’. The spokesperson cocked his head to the side, his bloody red dyed hair that was pushed back in a quiff flopped to the side.
“Sure, whatever you guys say…” He trails off before gesturing both of them up to the stage “Okay, then those two friends at the bar counter, come on up!” As he said ‘friends’, his voice practically dripped with sarcasm. Some people in the bar snickered, nudging each other and looking pointedly at the two.
Barry and Y/N turned to face each other, rasing one of their eyebrows. He moved his head in the direction of the stage and Y/N shrugged, mischief twinkling in her eyes.
“I mean… Why not go up? Unless you’re scared Allen…” She smirked, hopping off her seat and crossing her arms over her chest. Before Barry could answer, she turned on her heel, sauntering up onto the stage and catching the microphone the red haired announcer, who was also the DJ, threw her.
Barry grinned, shaking his head, and jogged up onto the stage, standing next to Y/N and catching the microphone in the air, thrown by the announcer again.
Just as the announcer was about to ask what song they wanted to sing, Barry stated, “Glad You Came, by The Wanted.” Whilst saying that, he stared directly at Y/N, who was about to say the exact same thing. They both grinned at each other, Y/N playfully drawing a line on her neck, signalling she was going to win.
Soon, the song started playing, snapping them out of their silent argument. Y/N gestured for Barry to start first, which he smirked, almost cockily, unlike the Barry she knew.
Once he started singing, his whole entire personality changed in a snap. He changed into a suave, cocky, arrogant and almost… Sexy.
Y/N saw that all through his performance, his body moving perfectly alongside the music and his voice as clear as a mountain stream, filling the bar.
He put passion into his singing and made Beyonce sound like an amateur. Throughout his singing, he stared deep into Y/N’s eyes.
When one verse was over, Barry showed signs of stopping for Y/N to sing so, she opened her red lips and unexpectedly, she sang beautifully.
She looked slightly uncomfortable up on stage, shifting her weight from one foot to another while wringing her hands nervously. But she sang her heart out, her voice a clear difference from her posture.
As the non-singing part came on, Barry leaned in nearer to Y/N, whispering, “I bet I can beat you.” He knew when he said that, the competitive side of her would come out and she would be more confident.
True enough, at the next verse, she grinned at him, doing a playful turn on the stage whilst singing the lyrics, still looking at Barry.
Throughout the rest of the song, both of them danced and sang their hearts out, clearly beating everyone who performed before them.
And as the song ended, their audience stood up, giving them a standing ovation, some whistling appreciatively and the drunk ones stomping their feet.
Both of them gave a slightly embarrassed grin, passing their microphones back and stepping off stage, going back to their seats.
“That was incredible.” Y/N breathed out, looking at Barry wide eyed, the corners of her mouth tugging upwards.
Barry remained silent, staring at Y/N’s sparkling Y/E/C eyes, getting lost in them. They held happiness, amazement and another emotion he couldn’t read.
“Barry? Are you alright?” She asked, clicking her fingers in front of his face, repeating his name again.
Barry snapped back to reality, only to see Y/N’s body close to his and her face up in his, her lips tantalizingly close to his.
A surge of confidence overcame him and not thinking through what he was going to do, he tucked a strand of hair behind Y/N’s ear. “I really meant what I sang. I’m glad you came.” He muttered.
Y/N blushed a bright shade of red, her mouth forming a shy smile and her eyes looking everywhere besides Barry. Mustering up her courage, she tiptoed and leaning forward, she did something she would never do.
She pressed her soft lips against Barry’s cheek, savouring how her lips felt against his smooth skin but quickly pulling away.
Y/N gave Barry a small unsure smile, whislt Barry’s fingers brushed over his cheek, his eyes wide and his heart pounding.
“Would you like to go on a date with me?” Barry blurted out, not thinking through what he was going to do. He couldn’t believe he managed to muster up his courage and ask you the question that had been burning in his mind since you opened your mouth.
You stayed silent, shocked that this man in front of you, who was completely oblivious to the fact that he could get any girl, had asked you out. Your mouth opened and closed repeatedly, as if all the words had been taken away from you. There were no words to express how ecstatic you felt now.
Taking your silence as a ‘no’, Barry fidgeted relentlessly with the sleeves of his shirt. “It’s… Fine if you don’t want to. I mean, we just met and-” Barry stammered, running his fingers through his hair.
Not knowing how else to shut him up, you tiptoed, placing your soft lips against his. You felt his rough hands caressing you cheek before cupping them, one arm going around your waist, pulling you closer to him. You felt your hands go up by themselves, messing up his unbelievably soft brown hair.
“I take that as a yes.” Barry muttered after pulling apart from the most amazing kiss both of you ever had. You nodded along, pressing your lips back on his again.
‘I’m glad you came…’ Both of you thought, flickering your eyes shut, melting from the kiss.
Your hearts never ached again.
