vulpix isnt even a top favorite anymore i just got cuteness aggression last night
#i agree that my issue with newer art is probably the cutesy anime proportions vs the more realistic fox approach#but i think this is a good example of both?#like its cutesy and has kinda blobby proportions plus the snout is round#but idk. the lack of a mouth and the thick lines really do it for me here#its kinda like the pmd2 portraits#despite that game coming out after the art style shift#yeah vulpix is rounder in the portraits but the lack of a mouth except for the more extreme portraits like for shouting#they feel like a nice compromise rather than a redesign#i feel bad saying this next bit but just know this is my entirely subjective opinion and i think the sprite artists are great#…. i feel like you can see this in the sprite edits on the repository too?#like editing alolan vulpix onto the vanilla vulpix sprite looks very different from alolan vulpix somehow#while the alternate sprite looks perfectly fine to me and ive used them as icons#but i cant quiiiite vibe with the alternate kanto vulpix? bc its got the full style shift and i dont really recognize it as vulpix#even though the sprites are really well done and very expressive#i am NOT being a hater i still like the new art style fine enough and i love alolan vulpix#but its almost like. alolan vulpix was designed with the new art direction in mind so seeing it in the old art style makes it SO clear to me#how different they are#again. the sprites arent bad theyre just different#echoed voice#i think the colors also play a part tho. not really a fan of modern vulpix’s color pallete from the anime#i dont think that brown and that orange go well together#but also im extremely attached to the pmd color pallete so maybe its just that#and tbc thats not a ‘’new’’ thing. its from the anime
