Anora was one of my least favorite movies in the awards season lineup it just felt so hollow and 2 dimensional

i haven't watched them all but i finally watched anora this week-end and despite some good moments, i really didn't have the time of my life. i know it's not fair but i couldn't help comparing anora to other sean baker's movies like the florida project or tangerine and it felt so much less than these movies.....

I have recently stumbled upon this article too: A History of Sex Workers and Oscar Wins and the whole thing gives me the ick like. of course hollywood would do this but somehow i never connected the dots before

#anonymous #should conclave have won instead? probably not #but it made me feel so much things! especially for someone who detached herself from catholicism since she was like 12 #there was something so hopeful about conclave. kinda naive and pure... i liked how optimistic it was #while anora felt kinda miserable............. idk #maybe i just simply wasn't in the mood #i understand more now why ppl were upset with poor things last year #bc it's a bit similar.... yeah the woman is free and liberated but until which point? especially when a man is directing the movie?
