Also wanna point out I don’t even hate or dislike SU I think it was fun i think too many ppl took it too seriously in the sense that ofc the show is right about politics! It’s THE gay show!!! And honestly that’s less embarrassing on the shows part bc yeah shows clumsily handle politics all the time, especially when they think they’re more progressive than they are; but the fact that so many grown ass people just. Agreed and took it at face value and started arguing with real life black people about it is sooooo. Funny.

#I will always say this #but my opinion on SU always boils down to they tried to explore family themes through colonization #and they did it terribly bc when the theme of FORGIVENESS and REDEMPTION presents itself in a familial sense #that’s a LOT different than how you’d explore that from the mindset of dictators killing entire planets worth of people #so for example #white diamond wasn’t just a dictator she was a controlling grandma #except the way you deal with an controlling grandma is NOT how you deal with a mass murdering dictator #so there’s a disconnect and they chose to focus on the mean grandma #which is fine but then why try to make her a dictator at all? if you can’t handle the entire thing properly just choose one #and like it’s so irritating how later they try to go back on shit they said or implied 💀#like suddenly nooooo we never said the diamonds killed SENTIENT life!!! keep adoring blue diamond it’s fiiiinneeee #like ok ty so much that still added nothing #anywayyyys #back to the main point yeah I don’t think they were equipped to handle colonization but they tried #which is fine #until #and imma keep saying it cause some of y’all were 30!#grown adults decided to get their entire political moral compass from Steven universe #which.
