Growing up, I always daydreamed about the perfect house. I used to dream about living in a castle with a handsome prince, but clearly I grew up to realize what a silly and adorable fantasy that was. I have grown easily fond of this house over the past few weeks, and I don’t need a prince because I have JJ.
“This place is so cute!” Charis exclaimed before plopping on the couch. “I love what you guys have done with the color scheme! It gives off such a warm and cozy vibe.” Sarah couldn’t help but admire the home. “You even have your own little dock!” Kiara gazes out the window. The girls had helped me shop for some more supplies for the house.
It was nice to still have my friends around. The summer is coming to an end, which means college is just around the corner. (Let's just pretend there’s a college in the OBX, cause I refuse to break up the pogues.) While my friends will be attending, I’ll be taking college online. I figured it would be better to work from home during and after the pregnancy. I’m also attempting to avoid any uncomfortable confrontations with people. My little secret was out in the open now, due to Luke’s outburst in the hospital a couple months ago. It’s impossible to go grocery shopping without someone pointing and talking about me. I’m also tired of trying to cool down a pissed of JJ every time he hears someone talk shit about me.
I continued to watch my show and cook for the remainder of the evening after the girls left. The savory smell of dinner filled up the whole house, making my stomach grumble violently. My head perked up when I heard the front door open and keys jingle. As predicted, JJ followed the smell of food into the kitchen with an excited smile baby. “What’s cooking in here babe?” He asked hugging me from behind, his body flush against mine. “Enchiladas.” I whisper playfully. “Say it again.” “Enchiladas.” I whispered slowly once more, flirtatiously. He attacks my neck in kisses, making me giggle uncontrollably.
I turn to peck his lips. His hands go to my growing baby bump. He soon gets down on his knees, peppering soft kisses against the bump. My hands massage his hair lovingly. “Hey little bean. It’s your daddy. I missed you today. Still hangin’ in there huh? I love you so much and I can't wait to meet you.” JJ rests his cheek against my belly. A strange and sudden motion within my belly made the two of us jump. Our eyes locked excitedly.
“I think the baby just kicked.” I say incredulously. JJ’s smile shines insanely bright. “Are you saying hi to me?” He asked before placing his head against once more, waiting for another kick. But before another kick could come, my phone rings.
“Hey mom.” I answer the phone. “Hi Elaine!” JJ perks his head up. “Hello my loves. You guys got a minute?” She asked hesitantly. “Yeah, what's up?” I asked nervously. “It’s about JJ’s mom.” The two of us share look. “What about her?” He asked urgently. “We found her.” The three words put us both in surprise. JJ finally stands up, absolutely speechless. “Where is she?” I asked for him. “Atlanta, Georgia.” The three of us just sat in an uncomfortable silence until mom broke it. “I’ll send you her address and where she works.” JJ just runs his hands through his hair “Thanks mom. Can I call you back later? Thank you.”
“You okay babe?” I asked genuinely concerned. “I think the enchiladas are done.” He ignores the question. “Babe, what do you want to do about this?” I asked firmly this time. He just stands there combing through the options in his head. “I don't know yet. I’ll have to think about it.”
A Few Days Later...
I’ve given JJ the time to think about his decision. The subject was never once brought up since the phone call. I can't imagine what is going through his head. He’s been wanting to find her for a while, and he finally knows where she is, but will he actually go through with it? Even if he did, what would say to her? What would she say to him?
I let the thoughts and questions bubble up as I approach the house, groceries in hand, when I noticed something bizarre. I noticed little muddy paw prints on the porch. My eyebrows knit in confusion. “Babe?” I asked opening the door hesitantly. I place the groceries down and follow the trail throughout the house until I reached the bathroom. “JJ what are these,” I didn't even finish my sentence before my eyes landed on what was in front of me.
JJ sitting on the cool tiled floor, cup in hand, with an adorable pitbull puppy having a ball in the tub. The two looked up at me with dumbfounded looks on their faces. “Uh, whatcha got there?” I finally speak. JJ looks me dead in the eye with the most serious look on his face I have ever gazed upon before saying, “A smoothie.” RIP ICarly. His poker face remains still. “No shit. What do you have in the bathtub?” “Water and coconut bubble bath.” “Thank you captain obvious.” I say in a sarcastic tone. “Anytime honey pie.” He winks.
“So, who's this?” I asked curiously. “This is Rogue the Pogue.” He patted his head affectionately. I couldn't contain the laughter within in me. “Rogue the Pogue. That's pretty adorable.” “He’s our little mascot. Up top bro.” JJ holds his hand up, which Rogue gladly paws at. “So is Rogue here staying for dinner?” I pet the playful puppy. “Hell yeah he is. He likes chicken by the way.” “Oh, well I’ll keep that in mind.” The two of us chuckle.
“Where’d you find him?” I asked. “He’s a stray. I’m sorry, I knew I should've called and asked but I saw him and knew I couldn't just leave him on the side of the road to die.” He began to ramble. “JJ, I’m not mad. I think it’s sweet of you to bring him home.” I reassure him. “Can he stay?” He asked with his own childlike puppy dog eyes. How the hell does he expect me to say no to that face, along with the adorable puppy. “Of course. After all, the baby needs a friend.” JJ’s face lit up excitedly. He jumps up knocking over the smoothie.
“Thank you baby! Thank you! Thank you!” He engulfs me into a warm hug. This excites Rogue, making him jump out of the tub, shake the water off, and run out of the room. “He’s loose! Suspect heading south to the kitchen.” JJ sprints after the playful pitbull. And falling on his ass on the way.
After a few hours of chasing Rogue around the house, we all settled down on the couch watching a movie, with Rogue nestled up against JJ. “I can't believe someone would just abandon him like that.” JJ mumbled sadly. I looked up at him concerned. “What matters now is that he has home.” I peck his cheek. “I want to see her.” JJ said out of the blue. This caught me off guard. “What do you think babe?” He looked into my eyes. “I think we’ve got a long ride ahead of us.”
