also I didn't want to be annoying in the tags of that last post i rbed but the mention of maria dahvana headley at the end had me do such an emotional 180 (negative) bc i read her book 'the mere wife' which is afaik a modern (feminist?) retelling of beowulf and i hateeed the experience of reading it sm

#it was my first intro to be.owulf #and it was well written but almost too much?#I have no like moral qualms with it just that i absolutely did not like the style of it ;; my annotations of it r primarily me complaining #which is weird bc i normally love an overly pretentious and poetic style.... hm. wonder if I should give it a re-read #it was well structured tho!!#like the first sentence of every chapter was a thing i rlly enjoyed. not sure how to explain the thing she did w them. but I liked it #anyway. does that mean she translated be.owulf and then decided to retell it in modern times from the female pov?#interesting. Good for her. maybe I'll reread it next year #books
