HOHO after so long of deeply pondering a certain short story I was reading I finally figured out the underlying message and purpose behind it, FEELS GOOD!!!
#king in yellow#the mask#i was so puzzled because it was truly a harrowing and tragic story right#which is to be expected when stupid unreliable narrator reads cursed book but#when genevieve turned out to be alive#i was so confused like#this ending isnt as tragic as i thought it would be#in the end even though Alec lost his closest friend and mourns him deeply#he still has genevieve#until i realised#Alec is not the protagonist of this story#unlike castaigne the book prior#Alec is only an onlooker watching the madness from the outside#the true protagonist is Boris#as it was Boris who read the book first#Genevieve probably read it before Alec found it#hence why Boris was doomed to die in the same way the author of the play and castaigne did#THE PLOT THICKENS#This book has an iron grip on me#i havent finished it yet tho so maybe im grasping at straws and have it all wrong#is it worth blogging a king in yellow analysis?#tw lovecraftian horror#edit: forgot to mention#this means we have two perspectives of Hastur's curse now#one from the pov of the cursed and the other an outsiders perspective
