it’s wild to me that like every modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (and by modern I mean “made recently” not “set in modern times”) is like Hell Bent on coming up with a Reason™️ that Watson stays with Holmes and trots around with him on adventures all the time despite the inconvenience and the danger and all, and so it’s like “oh, Watson’s a gambling addict, he loves uncertainty and mystery” or “oh, Watson’s an adrenaline junkie, he gets off on being constantly in danger from criminals” or even like “Watson’s atoning for sins of the past of BEING IN THE WAR by solving crimes with Holmes now” or WHATEVER. And it’s like, girl, maybe he’s just in love! Did you think of that?? Maybe he’s got a crush and it’s making him do stupid things. Maybe he’s just got bad taste and his type is guys who don’t know how to refold newspapers properly but can identify different types of cigar ash by sight, smell, and taste. And wrote a monograph on the subject. Maybe he’s down bad is all. I mean, Keep is simple, stupid!!!

No I have not read them all myself either. Yes it is essential. I see people naming them all the time on here only to terribly misunderstand or undercut or tokenize them. If we are going to talk about feminisms we have an obligation to read feminists. Listen to their speeches and interviews. People have spent decades before us laying groundwork definitions and concepts. We do not have to accept them as they are but to do that work to accept, reject, or modify these theories and definitions and ideas, but we do have to actually take the time to read them ourselves and not just commentary on them, or excerpts or simplified summaries, whether that's in books or online.

Anyway, personally, I have always thought that the best remedy for getting dumped is to go on another date with someone you're not emotionally invested in yet [this is probably the polyamory and borderline talking but stick with me I swear it makes sense for at least some of us]

So when you CARE about a person and the relationship dynamic shifts, now you're in mourning right because you started to imagine them in different places in your life and it's emotionally painful to uproot those. But like. If you temper that pain with a person you KNOW that you aren't emotionally invested in (yet) it's a lot easier to challenge the weird thoughts a post-break up funk puts in your head.

Do I feel like a freak of nature who will always be alone because that's reasonable or because Jean-Paul over there told me he's got too much going on right now to keep going out with me? When I'm crying alone in my room, the answer is way less helpful! When I'm on a date with Steve From Accounting Who's Fun But Not My Type it's a LOT easier to remember that lots of different kinds of people are attracted to me, and my boundaries/choices in interaction with others can have a lot to do with how I experience them. See, Steve From Accounting can say and do a lot of things that just Do Not Bother Me, because. Well, why should they? And the reminder that I'm capable of setting down frustration or hurt, the reminder that I can mark lines with people on a case by case basis that I don't want them to cross, and it can be different for different people and that can be a GOOD thing, all that stuff makes it easier the next time I'm alone and feeling shitty to say "hey, these are sensations in my body that I deserve to tend to, but they are not Truth Coming Out Of Her Well To Shame Me Specifically and I can chill about it."

Honestly it's also really validating to remember that there are MANY kinds of affection and connection from others in the world. The loss of affection/connection that often comes with a break up can rattle me, and it's helpful to have the PHYSICAL IN MY BODY reminder that this will pass as I reorient within the other systems of affection and care I participate in. A break up hurts less if you're not also wondering where you'll get your needs met in the meantime.

Just wanted to try my hand at aging up my girl. I'm still getting the hang of aging up characters, but still having them look like themselves, despite different clothes and hair.

So first up is Kris at 10, when she begins her journey. I've always seen her as being kinda smoll, comfortably dressed, and over prepared and organized. (Gen 2 introduced bags with different sections for different types of items) I know some people call it athleisure, but I saw it more as whatever she had lying around that looked comfortable to travel in.

At 17, I kinda expanded on the prepared and organized with pockets because I was obsessed with cargo pants and pockets at that age. I also wanted a nodd to the fact that you were supposed to have a skateboard instead of a bike, in the spaceword demo and make her a punk skater teen. I moved her pokégear to her wrist because they come with a convertible strap (remind me to link to my irl pokégear at some point).

Because Kris (and Silver and Gold and maybe Kotone) would be millennials, here she is at 35 (probs 34 still actually...). I've always kinda imagined her as a regional professor ala Kukui, definitely more in the throws of her research, running with stantler and living in caves with tyrannitar. I gave her more practical boots and jeans for this along with leg strap bags. After she gives you your starter, you can eventually find her at the top of Johto's Battle Tower, ready to beat your ass. Both her teen and adult forms have the clear bell as an earing for suicune. She accumulates more piercings as she gets older.

The digital "version" of ^this^ is just some lazy color blocking I did. (Pay no mind to the weird light effects); But it does add a little clarity to the original sketch that might be helpful. Note: the values will change to some degree later.

Full body type idea ^here^. The tail is fan shaped from proper perspective.

The basic blocks of his design include an array of different animal features i.e. plucked feathers and skin, goat horns and eyes, coyote skull and body, and lizard scales. Idk if anyone was curious though;

if anyone asks for more detail in the design inspirations and lore I might share it. I just don't really feel the need to post every part of my process yk (especially if I'm not 100% happy with it)

This flashback shows tooru bragging about his nephew after akira's death, but honestly, I can imagine uncle tooru constantly bringing up his nephew even before he started raising him.

Imagine how annoyed (and maybe hurt, idk, touma is very determined to be a cold-hearted super asshole. I assume some part of him did care about his relationship with akira not working out because he's so bitter towards mahiru who looks just like her. Doesn't excuse his behaviour but that's probably why he acts the way he does) touma must have been to have his team member constantly bring up his sister's son and tooru not getting why this pissed off touma so much because neither of them was aware of the paternity yet.

Touma seemed shocked when tooru told him mahiru was his child and he replied that akira hadn't told a single thing about it to him. So all these years he must have assumed that the father of tooru's nephew must have been another man, which I assume must have caused at least some negative feelings towards the boy in him.
