signing me up for debate classes is genuinely one of the best things my parents have ever done to set me up for the future its genuinely crazy how many different situations r so much easier to tackle bc of my debate experience

#had a job interview today & felt it went well #they had a weird interview style where they sent me questions beforehand and had me prepare answers #& then also asked questions in the moment #it literally felt exactly like the prep before a debate competition #anything involving persuasion or public speaking is soooo much easier for me now #& thinking abt how shy and socially anxious i was as a 12-13yo (when i started debating) i can see what my parents were aiming for #like literally no matter how much anxiety i have my brain will just take over & say smth that works #bc im SO used to being put on the spot in front of an audience #its some ppls greatest fear and i did it weekly for years #not to mention the other side of the coin #which is learning to recognise persuasive techniques & the difference between convincing and true #sometimes someone isnt right theyre just good at sounding like theyre right #conversely sometimes someone is right but doesnt know how to argue their own point #its like the sunny episode where mac successfully made the gang stop believing in evolution #and once u learn to clock that difference like. game changer #i was out there clocking onisions bullshit at age 14 #k
