i have thoughts too complex to put into this quick tumblr post but i do think the online leftist community's problem with constant virtue signaling and "will this make me seem/feel like a good person" politics has absolutely gotten in the way of effecting actual change and in some ways is an active impediment to it and one of the ways you can most clearly see it is the ways in which we are currently discussing boycotts
#dana rants#to be clear this is partly referring to the ways in which#we are actively misunderstanding boycotts as limited targeted activist campaigns#with clear strategic goals and demands#and treating them like don't interact with bad things#which is actively impeding the bds boycott movement#and u can see that thru starbucks becoming the face of the pro palestine boycott movement#despite having no financial dealings with israel#its actually being boycotted for union busting#which is a valid reason but most ppl boycotting it dont know that#its also mostly a symbolic reason since there are no clear demands being made from the company#i have other thoughts but this is getting unwieldy#and boycotting is not the only example of this#us politics

edit: lmfao this became a whole ooo/loona/jj strem of consciousness thinkpiece im so sorry lmfao (no pressure to read obviously, its honestly word vomit after the first part 😅)
i agree mostly but a lot of the things he did/wanted to do with loona are actually the exact things he's doing with ooo now, from super inane stuff like not letting them change their hair (a symptom of treating them like characters and not people) to more serious stuff that affects their careers (wanting them to be "underground" + not letting them go on variety shows, etc).
the two differences i see are that
1.) he has little to no conflict with 8d creative or the fans - with loona, he faced a lot of backlash, not limited to but especially regarding their promotion. it's like, jj saw the girls as a little underground pet project when actually they were bringing in an extremely large (and extremely vocal) fanbase. it also seems that other people in the industry (like lsm, who's kind of half had jj's position since he left, and the company donuts, for example) saw that bbc had a group with huge potential and sought to invest. the issue came with this shift in direction from loona the half underground gg to loona the full fledged idol group. the weird liminal space wouldn't have been as profitable so they (bbc) made the shift (i would say during late butterfly era, like when they were doing all those random festivals? sometime around when they finally let jinsoul dye her hair black and/or la maison) effectively pushing jj out (because he, once again, has control issues and disagreed w the new direction). ooo, with a much smaller fanbase, hasn't really run into the same issues in terms of fans protesting/emailing/boycotting etc over creative decisions in the same way that loona has. possibly because ooo was marketed as "not an idol group" from the get go and their fanbase didnt grow aa rapidly there was less pressure for 8d to subvert jj's vision, and thus he's kinda been able to just peacefully do what he wants with them lol
2.) like you said, ooo has more creative control than loona ever did. i think there's a mix of reasons for this (some valid, some not), like: ooo's three main producing members are older than loona and their personal tastes seem to align more with jj's vision. ooo also probably had a closer relationship to jj than the main loona members who have expressed a desire to compose (jinsoul, choerry, chuu, and olivia as far as i know are the ones who write/produce/compose/choreograph. under jj choerry and olivia were given choreo credits but thus far no one has had producing credits. chuu seems to have more informal experience writing and composing, and jinsoul has been working hard on a few songs, although she seems newer at it. plus, of these four, three were new to bbc so they likely werent close to jj. ooo on the other hand were all bbc trainees in the predebut lineup for 8x8x8 (some ppl say that all of the 888 guys left but i dont think that makes sense since they said love was one of the members all the way back at edily, plus kb, junji, and yj(? or was it nine) were in woomanna iirc, but that's a tangent) so they likely have a closer relationship with jaden- helps with trust, knowing his taste, understanding what sound he wants, etc). i also think jj is a bit misogynistic, a la picasso (funny how he incorporates so much picasso into ooo's stuff now that i think if it) in terms of basically not seeing women as capable people, just vessels through which to project his artistic vision. there's a bit of that with ooo as well tbh but theyve undeniably been allowed to contribute more than loona has...although actually they haven't had *that* much control if you actually look at the concrete stuff lol? rie has choreographed a few of their songs, nine released daisy (self produced), and nine + kb have been listed as 3rd/4th producers on a couple of songs (haeil, xydo, and jj are the most commonly listed ppl in their credits though i think).
other than those two things ooo and loona, to me, are a lot more similar than not as a symptom of their connection to jaden
I get my onlyoneof news from u and..icb u havent mentioned that jaden left loona for them 😭
pleasee when they debuted i called jaden a deadbeat dad every single day 😭😭😭 honestly i dont think he left loona, i think he was forced out for wanting to do the same things he's now doing to ooo w/ loona, the difference is he has more control now
#help sry this got so long#i knew i had a jj word vomit coming out soon i just didnt know when or where#ooo#rly i couldve stopped at para one pls
