do you think they'll eventually address constantine's death in jld? the whole thing was just so weird to me. it felt like he suddenly went "welp, time to die." then swamp thing showed up to say "hey, constantine died" and everyone just went "yeah, i guess he did." and i'm ??? why would you kill a character if you're not actually going to use their death?? i thought we'd at least get a mention of all the demons that must be fighting over his soul...

I want to preface this ofc by saying: this is Comics^tm so no one ever Stays Dead, and especially not in the usual sense if Magic is involved.

Now, let’s recall his most significant appearances so far in the series and what was accomplished:

Issue 1, right off the bat its to establish his current relationship to Zatanna, and recalling canon that predates even N52 by decades (that being the death of Zatara at Wintersgate) he distances himself from Diana’s JLD and from the rest of the mystic community in this issue and gets the ball rolling for Zee to make her decision as well(the first ofc was by his own choice, the latter not so much)

Issue 3, when the JLD seems a little in over their heads confronting the Upside Down Man, Constantine steps in and pulls out all the stops. He’s still not an Official part of the team, but he’s helping them as much as he can while clearly running his own agenda as per usual

Also look at those girlfriends omg

Witching Hour (cant be bothered to remember which issue bc this event spanned a few different ones ooof), kicking things off with tragedy striking, this looked almost like a turning point for bringing Constantine back onto the JLD full-time again, only for the event to finish and said death to occur hot on its heels…

In issue 6, with the JLD taking care of business in Myrra, Constantine begins to reveal machinations that may be part of a bigger play and emphasizes Zee’s importance to him.

Also can we talk abt how he immediately dies after this like. John “Last Words Mean Shite” Constantine making a joke of everything, what an Icon

And finally, four issues later in #10, we see one post-mortem mention of John’s involvement in what’s transpired since, as well as a more connected past to Zatara than has been previously established in canon, at least with what ive personally read so far.

And ofc, with both mentions of Constantine & Zatara’s involvement in what’s occurred, Zee is reasonably upset

Everything thus far about Constantine’s appearances in JLD has been intrinsically connected to Zatanna. More than likely, anything that brings him back from his “Death” (and say this with heavy quotes bc we really only saw him get sucked into Fate’s helmet so he’s probably fine lmao) will probably also be connected directly to Zee. From synopses that I’ve read for upcoming issues so far, I dont see him returning as a permanent member or recurring cast, esp given the previous run had so much trouble btwn having him maintain a proper leadership position, and that he’s not exactly a Big Team player in the best of circumstances. But also, who knows! DC doesn’t exactly stand for Deliberated Continuity

My conclusion; we’ll see a little more of him eventually, but I wouldn’t hold my breath too long. But at least the next issue tomorrow will hopefully give me some more dianazee that my soul needs
