for the ask meme: Yours To Take (hands down, one of my favorite fics ever) #5, #13, #15.
The fic in question: Yours to Take
5: What part was hardest to write?
The fight scene. Hands down.
I hate writing fight scenes, I struggle to keep momentum moving in the way I want and I get into a whole mood about it.
Why would I choose to write fighting to fucking if I don't like writing fight scenes? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know why I keep doing this to myself.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I have a bunch of character/ship/general vibe playlists that I use while I'm writing. Sometimes I make them specifically for what I'm writing, but in this case I stole the one I used for We Claim That This Collection Has A Name And Is A Being the Imperial codex fic I wrote for codex week. Some songs of it I particularly liked for this fic are:
That Unwanted Animal - The Amazing Devil Unbecoming - Starset In The End - Linkin Park (I will not be taking comments or criticisms at this time 😂)
But, probably the one people should listen to for maximum vibes is Yours to Shake - Greylag which is where the title came from.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
This is one of the fics that got me to start experimenting in present tense a little more. You might have noticed that this fic is in past tense and you make a very good point. It kept slipping into present tense though, and I'm haunted by the knowledge that there are almost certainly still some mistakes in it. I should have accepted it wanted to be present tense when I was a couple thousand in and saved myself the headache but I'm a stubborn bastard.
For this sort of unhinged pov I think present tense works quiet nicely and since it I've been trying it out a little more.
Thanks for asking :D
#ask meme#I reread this fic before answering#and I because of the exchange none of my wips are codex and I miss them#imma have to sneak something out before the next event I'm signed up to

Do you prefer bar or liquid soap? Liquid. I don’t like how a bar soap tends to slip out of my hands. What's the speed limit on your street? I live in a gated village with tiny streets and kids that can run out of their gates any time, so the maximum on our widest roads is 40 kph. In more cramped streets, it’s recommended to drive 15-20. When was the last time you wore your favourite article of clothing? With my favorite pair of jeans, it was at the start of the month. I don’t have a favorite top; I find them all nice. Do any of your family members have an upcoming birthday? I don’t know anyone in my family who celebrates their birthday in August. If there’s someone, I can’t place them at the moment. On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, rate your last kiss. 5.
What is your favourite flavour of Jolly Ranchers? I don’t eat those. Where was your Facebook profile picture taken? It was taken in the basement of my college, which had been converted into a makeshift photo studio for a few days so that we could take our senior photos there. The basement has several rooms so most of them got used for different purposes like a hair and makeup room, a changing room, the actual photo studio, etc. Do your parents smoke? No. I think my mom mentioned experimenting with cigarettes when she was in college, but she didn’t like it, quit as soon as she started, and hasn’t had one since. My dad never smoked, period. Would you rather bake cookies or a potato? Cookies. It’s more nostalgic to me, which makes the experience more fun. Who was the last person to stay the night at your house? Gabie, probs. She’s the only one who sleeps over anyway. Do you live close to a park? We have our own tiny parks in our village; but no, this country is generally not public spaces-friendly. Is your favourite animal endangered? One of them is. Have you eaten pizza in the last week? Nah man, I haven’t had pizza in a WHILE. Not since February, I’m pretty sure. Who was the last person you added to your contacts list? I don’t remember. I think it was my hair and makeup artist for a test photoshoot that I did last December. How long does it take you to shower? 7-10 minutes. Do you prefer a brand of bottled water over others, or is it all the same? Sure. There are brands that have a slightest taste, and I try to avoid those. Have you used Wikipedia today? Yes. I read at least one article a day, whether on purpose or coincidental. Idk I think that despite the fact that it’s not a credible source to include on essays and papers, I still think it’s super informative and helpful and it’s at least fun to read through and spend hours in if I’m doing leisure reading. Are you better at writing fiction or non-fiction? Non-fiction BY A MILE. The idea of writing fiction terrifies me...I’ve never been able to reach that level of creativity. Do you know anyone who has moved to a different state? I’ve known people who have moved from one province to another (we don’t have states). But in terms of the US, I also do know someone who moved from one state to another. I went to school with this girl who migrated to Hawaii a few years back, then she moved to California last year. How many pens can you see from where you’re sitting? Zero. Have you ever dated someone one grade/year above or below you? Nopes, but I’d assume that’s pretty common.
What language do you think you’d be good at? Spanish for obvious reasons.
What language do you think you’d fail at? Russian. And the African languages that have click sounds in them; I’ve always found this SO fascinating, but I know I'd never be able to perfect those. Do you still have a landline phone at your house? Yes. I have older relatives who still prefer talking on landline, so we keep it around for them. What is your current desktop background? One of the default wallpapers on my laptop. I changed it recently though. My old one was a mountain shot that mostly had a pinkish hue; and my new one is still a shot of a mountain range, but now it’s orange-purplish-pinkish.
How big is the television you last watched? Haven’t watched TV in a while. Have you ever been stung by a bee or a wasp? NOPE, one of my biggest fears.
How many schools have you been to in your lifetime? Two. I went to my first school from kindergarten to high school and the only time I transferred was when I went to college. Are you of legal age in your country? Yes. I have been in the last four years.
Why did you last visit a doctor? I had been sick for days and I was convinced it was no longer just a fever because no medicine and amount of sleep were helping, so I got myself checked. Would you prefer an ice cream cake or a regular cake? Regular cakes. Omg I hate ice cream cakes...I was never sold on the idea of cake not only being painfully cold to bite, but also capable of melting and getting all liquidy. I’m not gonna hate on other people who are into those, but I honestly never saw the hype. How old is your best friend? Gabie’s 22. Angela’s turning 22 in September. What is/was your high school’s mascot? My old school doesn’t have a mascot. We have school colors but that’s it. Do you carry pain relievers with you at all times? No. I didn’t want to be too dependent on them (still don’t) when I was still in school, so I just left the pills at home. My headaches sometimes go away on their own, anyway. Where is your mother right now? She just went upstairs to settle in their room for the night. What was the last thing to make you smile? A meme Angela sent a couple of minutes ago. Are you currently saving up for anything? Not currently since I don’t have money coming in. I imagine I’d be saving up for Airpods and a new set of braces once I start having a salary, though. Priorities, hahaha. What’s the view like from your bedroom window? Not too impressive. I just see the houses behind ours. Generally speaking, do you prefer sweet or savoury? Savory. My cravings for sweet only come once I’ve had savory. What would you do if you got home and you saw your house had been destroyed? Check the scene and see if my dogs made it. I’d try asking neighbors and the guards if they saw what happened; and I’d be devastated and anxious as fuck, of course. When did you last go outside, and what for? I walked Kimi outside an hour ago so he can do his business. We’ve closed off the balcony for now (his usual spot) since it’s been raining all day and evening, so I walked him in the area of our house that’s under a shed. Who is your favourite Sesame Street character? Didn’t really grow on Sesame Street. I suppose I liked Big Bird most, but I was never too attached to the character. How often do you check your emails? Everyday at this point. Do you have any plans for this Thanksgiving? No. What colour is your backpack? Baby pink. Would you slap the last person you talked to for twenty dollars? It’s not completely off the table, but you’re gonna have to pay me a lot more for me to slap my girlfriend lol What search engine do you usually use? Google. How much did the shirt you’re wearing cost? Couple thousand bucks. It’s official WWE merch. Patrick Stump or Pete Wentz? I never compare members within the same band. I like them both. Do you know anyone who gives way too many hugs? Laurice. Not that that’s a bad thing. She hugs eveeeeeeryone, and she’s the sweetest for doing so. What time do you usually wake up on Sundays? 7-8 AM these days, like for all days. Have you whispered today? I don’t think so. What grade did you get on the last test you took? I never got to find out my grade in my Rizal exam since the lockdown happened shortly after. That’s the only test I got to take in the second semester.

I love these pics....
So many people associate Witches with evil, colluding with the Devil, Black Magic, and somehow, eating children ( probably because of the story of Hansel & Gretel)...but these pics (of course exaggerating capabilities of a witch)allow me to discuss a few things...
Let’s start with riding brooms....It’s kind of an adult explanation, but I will try to make it G-rated.
Long ago, people had not idea about fungi or mold, and many people ate Rye bread, as they do now...but long ago, rye bread could get a fungus called Ergot...Those who practiced the Craft, found out that Ergot was a hallucinogen (LSD is derived from it) after the 17th Century affliction of the “dancing mania” in Europe, and that it also helped with headaches (who knew?) Anyhow, they wanted to use this Ergot, and also distribute it to others...Kind of like an olden day drug dealer! LOL...
There was a big problem though. They knew that they couldn’t consume (eat or drink) it, because it was so unpleasant and would cause nausea, vomiting, etc...so they made these drug laden salves and balms, “Witch’s Brews”, to be absorbed through the skin...They realized that through the skin, they would get the desired hallucinogens, without the bad side effects, and the fastest, most effective and receptive areas of the body for absorption were through the sweat glands in the armpits, and the mucous membranes of the genitals.....
Ok...now the kicker...to distribute these salves or balms with maximum effectiveness...the used the handle of a broom....hence the term “witches riding broomsticks”....and because they were high...they were “flying”...I know..shield any child’s eyes from this note!!
On to the next images....
Cats, bats, owls, ravens, crows, goats, and almost every other animal, arachnid, reptile, amphibian, fish or aves on the planet, have been written, sung, or spoken about being a witch’s “familiar”. I’m sure I don’t have to explain what a familiar is, but in actuality...we’re just like any other person, and love animals...Ours just happens to be very special to us, and we respect them, as part of nature...Familiars’ and their energies are believed to help with spell casting, protection, warding off evil entities,etc...In my family, we grew up surrounded by many different kinds of animals, and not all were familiars (we each had our own...an animal that picked us, and not the other way around)...and I continue to have many animals in my home...Again, we each have our own, that picked us..* Just a quick note here...A familiar, is one energy, that can live as a cat in one life, and then perhaps as a dog (as an example), throughout a Witch’s life...My first Familiar animal, didn’t actually find me, until I was 12,...until then, I was watched over, by my mother’s...I’ve had a couple of other’s since then...and currently have one, that likes to sleep in my large cauldron (it’s a family heirloom..about the size of a large pumpkin)...
Ok now, the “Witch Aesthetic”...
Yeah, you’re going to see a lot of black...not because we feel dark and mysterious in it, or that it looks good on everyone and with everything (that’s just the bonuses)..but it’s because black “absorbs all colours of our visible spectrum” and enhances the strength of our powers and energy. Colours are important to us. Colours represent different things, such as green for money, red or pink for love, etc., and so some will wear a colour, to draw or repel, whatever they want. It wasn’t always the clothing that would be coloured and worn. Sometimes flowers, herbs, or feathers would represent the colour wanted, pinned inside or on clothing, in the hair, on the shoe, or in the hat or bonnet. Sometimes even carried in a sachet, worn against the skin.
Crystals, a pentagram, which is a 5 pointed star - upright (not angled or it would be a Devil’s pentagram), talismans, sachets with herbs, oils, powders, or what have you, a spell book or two (otherwise can be known as a Grimoire or Book of Shadows), an unusual hat ( perhaps wide brimmed or a little pointed), are all things that can be seen on a witch...but not all witches. Some witches do not dress, at all what you would think a witch would dress like. In fact, you probably wouldn’t know that you were around a witch, unless they wanted you to know. Most wear just regular clothing, and may not have anything “witchy” showing..
By the way...
The whole thing about people sensing a witch around...that’s not entirely true. In my experience, only a handful of people have ever come up to me, and told me that they knew what I was (not including other witches)...but I am a people person, too, so people gravitate towards me anyhow...and then there’s children and animals..They can sense who is good and who is bad. Most witches have balance in their Craft, often tipping towards positivity, and kids will pick up on it, and are often drawn to us, because for the most part, we are good. The same goes for animals...If you find that your child or pet, steers clear of someone...listen to them. there IS a reason...
As well....none of the “witch tests” actually work, our wands don’t actually shoot lightning or energy of any kind, out of the tips, not all of us can predict the future or see the past, we can’t turn you into a frog, and we don’t eat babies! Not all of us live in haunted houses, with cobwebs and weird friends, either. I have some weird friends, but that’s besides the point! Ha!
We can attend church, live within a religion, have families, swim in water, go in the Sun,...any and everything else, anyone else can do....We are as different to each other, as any other person is, to us...and we all follow different paths, in the Craft. We are from all walk of life, all ages, genders, etc...but we are ALL HUMAN. We laugh. We cry. We get angry. We bleed. We all have feelings....
Ok...I could go on...literally for hours, but I think this is long enough...If you have questions, message me...If you’d like me to write about anything witchy, let me know,...I think this blog will be about real life, as a witch, without the fluff. Maybe even a little about history, or where stigmas and assumptions come from.
I won’t be sending spells, in any private message, or posting spells. That would be irresponsible, and I don’t want to be responsible for what someone else does. I won’t be posting the typical pics or memes, that others have, either...because that’s not what I’m about. I may post pics or memes, in order to discuss fantasy vs. reality, though, or how magic is already in your life and you may not have even known it! I never really know what I’m going to write about, until I start writing, unless there’s something that I just need to get out!
On that note, take care, and have a great day! 👍

5 Things Meme
I was tagged by @hamburger---time. Most of this will be under a cut because uhh...I followed in his footsteps with taking pictures!
5 Things I Keep in my Bag!
Full disclosure, if there is space in the bag, that space is filled by something. I need to start wearing men’s pants so I can carry a men’s wallet. That’ll show me. In the meantime, I’m not going to show anyone anything especially shocking... I carry typical things in my bag I guess. Chapstick/lipstick, lotion, napkins, scissors, a lot of pens...and these things.
1.) Lanyard with work keys/work passcard. I got the lanyard on Etsy from the artist and yes, it’s awesome!
2.) My glasses. I’ve had the same pair for years.
3.) Keys. I’ve had that hideous “I love my cat” keychain for 11 years (I bought it after I got CiCi).
4.) A BFF zebra. My sister has the other half.
5.) My wallet, which has so much crap in it that it won’t close. Sticking out of it are postal receipts (kept for the tracking, ofc).
5 Things I Keep in My Room!
My bedroom is an absolute mess. It’s on the list for a thorough cleaning this weekend. I try to keep the rest of the house pretty orderly, but the bedroom is where it all falls apart. Hah!
1.) While I was getting ready for work, The Fluff was enjoying some Blanket Time. I couldn’t bear to move him even to make the bed...!
2.) Stuffed animals. My small dog son, William, and Ecco the Dolphin... Yes... I am very creative.
3.) Braces for my weak ass wrists. These days I tend to think they do more harm than good, though, tbh.
4.) Mirror. I’m leaning against the wall, I swear...not posing. This mirror was my grandmother’s.
5.) CAT THINGS. And uh...more cats... They’re laying in front of the Cat Closet, which is where I keep all the food and treats. :P
5 Things I’ve Always Wanted to Do in My Life
1.) Have a therapy animal to take to nursing homes. I’ve wanted to do this since my mid-teens, but when my grandmother had to go to a nursing home, the idea grew. A lot of people in nursing homes have had to give up a pet, and like honestly letting them interact with a dog or cat or whatever just...lights up their entire day. If I had a lot of money/time I’d want to do a therapy mini horse. ;)
2.) Get back into arts/crafts. I used to do a lot of sculpting kind of stuff, a bit of woodworking... And I mean, I can’t really do carpentry work anymore (RIP), but I have an idea or two for some really cool craft projects I could spend my time on. It’s just...really something that will only ever happen if I can no longer work (due to health or pregnancy or whatever).
3.) Get back in shape. THERE’S NO EXCUSE. I SHOULD ALREADY BE BACK IN SHAPE. And everyone’s like ‘well it’s not like you’re overweight or anything’ and I’m like yes I know but if I get hit with the fibrobat like my mother did, which isn’t unlikely considering I’m getting hit with everything else she’s been diagnosed with, I’ll NEVER be able to do it again so like, before Maximum Pain and Discomfort rears its hideous head I should probably do something.
4.) Write a book. But again, this is only happening if I ever quit my job. I am not willing to work two jobs in this sense.
5.) Grow my hair back out. I keep cutting it shorter again but I think this time I’m going to stick with it. Every time I see someone with long hair I miss having long hair. Shorter hair is easier to take care of, but I can’t do anything with it, and I’m a little disappointed that mine will be too short to do much with when I get married. Anyway, I think I wrongfully blamed bad headaches on the weight of my hair in the past, so it’s time to try it again and see if the headaches get worse or better!
5 Things I’m Into
1.) Pokémon Sun & Moon. I can’t believe GameFreak gave me FBI Interpol Agents with a built-in government conspiracy theory.
2.) The X-Files. I never would have thought I’d have enjoyed this series but...it got me. It really did. Trustno1.
3.) Animal behavior. Cats, dogs, horses. Give it to me. Bovines, too. I eat this shit up.
4.) Tumblr RP. Because I never learn. Oops!
5.) My two favorite subjects are English and History so here we have writing + history = written vs. unwritten history. Sign me up for these kinds of discussions; don’t forget that history was written down only by those who were learned enough to actually write it. And that. There is no doubt. It is biased af. And never 100% correct.
5 Things on my To-Do List
1.) Clean the house (thoroughly) this weekend.
2.) Call my mother (tonight hopefully).
3.) Get stuff ready for the big MSHA meetings (tomorrow is the first one).
4.) Figure out what we can do to get inventory more accurate at this company...
5.) Buy a dress for the wedding. (shrug emojis what if I got into shape...first...)
5 Things You May Not Know About Me
1.) I buy dresses and then never wear them. They look so cute and then I put them on and I’m like haaah I look like AN ALIEN.
2.) I don’t have any teeth...but we’ll be talking to a dentist next week about maybe doing something about that.
3.) Pretty sure I have IBS. (TMI, I know.)
4.) My favorite horse breed is the Dartmoor Pony.
5.) Ketchup is disgusting and a crime against potatoes.
TAGGING: @arthoure, @hikawamaria, @hairjel, @loukarr, @americannoteven, @reservoirite, @poolsidescientist, @everbrilliantheartbreaker, and @kippielovesyou. Optional, of course!
#memes and such#meme responses#look i did a meme i was tagged for!!!#i'll look in my email for all the ones i missed...but i think they were all that music one

Of sadness, dysph(m)oria, and isolation
Ah, to write an entry that isn’t entirely about a man, how quaint!
1. For the purpose of historical quantification, we’re in a massive, worldwide quarantine. I miss him and I know he must be bored and godly, his mother is uncharacteristically quiet but forever pious.
The misery that one nurtures in strange corners and night time sessions, the self they hide except in covered screens and text messages, the authentic self of leather and buckles. Colored eyelashes, thigh high socks, jock straps - the glitter you hide from your captors. In my case, it’s men and Europe, fantasy lands where I can fulfill myself, where I tell myself that everything is going my way if I could just get back to her and drink my fill. Travels at night, travel by air, a boundary that separates me from the perils of the United States and the soil I despise. I have no home but sky, and damn, if I didn’t feel at home sitting next to you for coffee or drinks.
But, silly me, you’re not my home.
2. A future lays on the horizon, a future where I can’t help but self destruct a little (as a treat.) Huffing spray paint and drinking old absinthe and railing lines of expired Norco is old after one week, I’m too depressed to move and I miss my cat. 20 days to record a video without a haircut, 20 days to record a lecture without a nail fill. Headaches and heartaches, a paranoid virus that fills the corners and eats men like air.
Like the rest of the world, I'm rude and restless, a victim of American exceptionalism. Surely, not me - surely not us - just let us by officer, we didn’t mean it, we’ll be good. I long for the wooden floors of a European flat, dusty and cold, the four story maximum and old heavy windows.
BEE said that he went into a famous diner, everyone was miserable. When we waited in the hospital, waiting for them to bring Dresden to us a last time, the final goodbye, I admitted aloud: I’m miserable. I’ve been miserable since I came back from Vienna. It was one of the few times I’ve ever uttered the full truth, the naked reckoning that my condition is inherently flawed: I am uncomfortable, I am unacknowledged, I am unhappy. Miserable, in fact. Stunningly, incomprehensibly, massively despondent. A leaky faucet of a human being, spilling out the contents across the floor, waiting to be mopped up.
3. If you couldn’t be my man, I’d become my own man, perfect and ripe. How many mediocre conversations until I just say “no,” “no good,” and become a person who supports themselves? The memes say that no cis person lies awake dreaming about being another gender. Is that true? Is that always true? What about the anxious and creative, who overthink everything? Can I be diagnosed by a meme? Can a meme predict my home? As usual, more questions than answers, more money than sense.
