Dire Promise

I don't remember the exact time I got this, but it was sometime before Beyond Light, and before the 150RPM hand cannon changes. I believe it was from Banshee, Rahool or Xur.

This thing has seen it all. From hand cannon metas, to auto rifle metas, sidearm metas, and the current dreaded SMG meta. Despite that, I still use it today.

My clanmates constantly bother me about it. "Ana, why use that thing when you have a perfect Timelost Fatebringer? Why use it over your Adept Palindrome? Why use it over Thorn or Hawkmoon?"

It's because it's a complete anomaly. Statistically speaking, it is a mediocre at best hand cannon. There's nothing unique about it. Hawkmoon should thrash this thing. Palindrome is statistically superior in every way, with the added bonus of Adept Targeting.

Yet, even still, despite having average range, despite not being adept, despite EVERYTHING, this thing beams. It puts all of the hand cannons in the game to shame. It'll powerbomb you into a bed of nails. It'll steal your wife and/or husband and make you watch. It makes Saint-14 cry robotic tears, brings Lord Shaxx to his knees, and makes Lord Saladin think that God is dead, and this is the weapon that dealt the final blow. It's so much of a powerhouse that it's the one thing Banshee never forgets.

Words cannot describe how crisp and smooth the Dire Promise is. It is so incredibly sticky with aim assist, it almost aims itself. Don't let that range stat fool you either, it's deceptively strong at mid range. And why reload when you can just pick up a special brick and have 22 shots in the chamber?

It's fallen from grace multiple times, and it's currently in a bad spot what with all those darn silly string SMG's in the Crucible nowadays, but it's my comfort weapon. It reminds me of home, of simpler times when we didn't have Darkness subclasses and when the character menus were white. Of the days where we ventured into the Sundial, through the Corridors of Time to rescue Saint-14, when the Leviathan was devoid of corruption and the Midnight Coup was the best hand cannon, when Gambit Prime existed, and those nights spent in private matches with the clan in Rumble, just talking and shooting each other.

I pity those who don't have a comfort weapon. I pity those who, after all these years, are still searching for their Dire Promise, their Hawkmoon or Spare Rations.

Im NOT asking which is your best weapon to clear a room or kill a god. I’m asking which one you would NEVER delete even if it’s not the best or even very good. I don’t care if it’s an exotic, legendary, a rare or even uncommon or common OR EVEN IF IT WAS SUNSET. I don’t care if it’s super popular or a weapon nobody knows about.

Which weapon out of your entire arsenal feels like it’s YOURS? Like it’s special and unique and that it only feels right in your hands? The one weapon you would call a true friend if it was a person.
