Dario Mohr in Bogota, Day 4
Day 4 was a wild ride! I biked to the Cementerio Central, a cemetery with lots of ornate tombs, some of which in the shape of mini cathedrals, while others had gold statues. The view from the center of the circular cemetery showed the stunning juxtaposition of European statuary and backdrop of the modern high rises surrounding it.
From there, I biked to Usaquén which is in the northern part of Bogota. My point person Daniela recommended Cafe San Alberto and its Chemex coffee, so I sat there a bit and refueled. The coffee was really good so I bought some to bring back to the states. She also recommended Pedro Mandinga Rum Bar next door, so I had a quick Mai Thai before checking out their outdoor market.
I then hopped back on a bike and embarked on a journey of perils and pitfalls, getting lost for over an hour in different parts of the city into nightfall on the way home. I took red herring road after red herring bridge until I finally was about to get off the correct bridge, which happened to have part of the floor missing at the base of it, so I threw the bike over the side of the bridge and proceeded to hop over as well (thankfully only a few feet). All in all, an adventure I will never forget!
I had about an hour before my final task so I went to Chicharia Demente and had some Chicha, a corn beer of the Andean people that I had previously in Peru but here it was much sweeter. It's always interesting learning of these kind of regional variations.
Last but not least, I went to Club de Tejo 76 where I played Tejo, a sport where you throw a metal disk into an incline of clay. There is a central target you shoot at and it is almost reminiscent of the game cornhole but instead of it going through the center, it is supposed to land on one of 4-6 little paper football triangles containing tiny explosives. In my hour there I managed to pop two of them. There was also a public latrine in the space which was a unique thing to witness, and christened out of respect for the culture. #WheninBogota
