Lupin III Chapter 62 Review
y'know what i said about chapter 61? FORGET ABOUT ALL OF THAT BECAUSE THIS CHAPTER SINGLEHANDLEDLY FLIPPED IT FROM AN ehh TO A MUST READ.
Yes!! This chapter is a continuation of the last one!! im so excited about this information!!
to comment more on this cover, for some reason it means a lot to me since it was the first couple of images i found really cool when i started getting into lupin, i was browsing mp art on twitter during that time and when i saw it i was like "wow, the way lupin stands and looks at you in this drawing goes raw as hell" it sounds stupid but idk i just really really like that drawing for those reasons, it stands out to me a special drawing
ok, on with the chapter! if you dont remember basically lupin and fujiko got split into a good and evil side and now theyre fighting each other
the setting is in like this factory place for some reason and were led to believe good lupin and fujiko got out of the dungeon. good lupin gets trapped by evil fujiko who got her hair color changed for some reason
wow! rare colored panel moment
evil lupin approaches good lupin and he thinks the good one is an impostor and tells fujiko to kill him good lupin wants to clear things up like how they're the same person and killing him only means evil lupin would die too but he doesn't believe any of that lmao he leaves evil fujiko to kill good lupin but good fujiko comes to the rescue!
(good) lupin then asks evil fujiko where his other half is and she completely plays dumb and lupin just slaps her :skull:
then good fujiko smacks lupin on the head with her gun and lupins like what the fuck??? i didn't hit you?? then shes like well shes also me and lupin just gives up (it's funnier when you read it)
then lupin does a whole 4th wall break recapping chapter 61 that part its also really funny because the way lupin poses and explains everything makes him look so done
ok so now lupin is finding his evil version they get out of the factory place and lupin finds himself just ontop of some random house then they fight and evil lupin obviously comes out on top
good lupin tries to tell evil loop one last moment before he dies and it... kind of works!
G for good loop and E for evil loop G: Fine! You win! Blow my brains out! E: Any last requests? G: Just one... WEARETHESAMEPERSONANDYOU'VEGOTTOBELIEVEMEANDIFYOUWILLHELPMEITHINKICANFIXUS!!! (good job tokyopop you made me laugh)
E: Okay, I'm naked, now what? G: According to the book, after we strip we have to crash into each other at full speed.
god monkey punch... we can't do this, the good and evil lupin dynamic is so fun.. dont turn him back into the boring singular one...
sadly, they will do it anyway, as existence as one half of the other is painful. one attempt failed because good lupin got scared by the evil one running at him so fast but they eventually get merged
then he checks up on the fujikos who seem like they succeeded he jumps in the bathtub that shes in and fujiko asks what happens if the merge didn't work exactly right, and lupin says that they simply needed to wait
then fujiko reveals that uh... the merge came out... sort of freakish..
the end.
#what a chapter#lupin iii#lupin the third#fujiko mine#local lupin manga fan screams about the manga as per usual#lupin iii manga

tbh i really don't.... care much if a character is flanderized? top cat was an episodic comedy, and i think its fine if characters in a cartoon have their traits exaggerated for the sake of a joke. ppl get too caught up in the idea of "consistency" even when its actively detrimental to a genre and i dont think anyone was characterized so consistent enough in the original series for me to think it mattered or ever will matter? if the core concept of the character is honored then that's kinda all that matters imho - and the core concept of tc and benny is that tc is kind of a greedy little scamp who comes up with get rich quick schemes while benny is a spacey enabler. if they decide to play with the details then i think that's just fine. tbh i like when hes kind of a selfish mean asshole who doesnt think about how he impacts others cuz he does that in the original series too, so i think its fine to play with that idea. though i do wish they had more moments like in the comic where hes like "hey why is this guy being a jackass to dibble im the only one who is allowed to be a jackass to dibble" because the possessive protective aspect is funny too
ehhhh... with choo choo, i suppose it was at one point kind of rarity for a male character to be sensitive and effeminate in the ways that chooch was. but it's not a rarity anymore, like... at all. its not rly unique, and in the grander context of hanna-barbera works i dont think it was that unique to begin with and it's not like chooch being a sensitive and effeminate man was ever done to Make A Point (tm) so honestly i prefer the fact they looked at the emotional pink sweater-wearing weirdo who kind of overreacts, gets aggressive over things that literally don't matter, who is kind of selfish at times but you would hardly be able to tell because they're So Chipper And Spacey And Sillayyyyy and decided, yeah, this character could be a woman. shes just like me frrrr. and the idea that the choo choo from the original series could actively decide to be a woman, and would transition, is completely believable to me. i personally think it makes sense for the character choo choo was portrayed as, and fitting for an interpretation of the character existing in the modern era instead of Specifically In The 60s
i like annoying characters so i like how annoying jellystone fancy is im sorry </3 annoying guy apologist over here. i do kinda wish they had sort of just made fancy like, "fujiko mine from lupin the third as a catboy" instead though... but i also really enjoy the fancy who is top cat's stupid annoying son. i just dont think hes fancy fancy. admittedly he just should have been like, a new character or something, i dont know. maybe an interpretation of sheldon who is actively in the gang instead of living outside the city. but i get why they did it in the context of jellystone, where theyre side characters in an ensemble cast of an episodic comedy it's really not about them
also yeah im starting to go insane about the lack of dibble and while i ENJOY jellystone cuz its funny and stupid and thats literally all it wants to be and is trying to be and im capable of appreciating things for what they ARE rather than what i WANT i also cannot stress enough how much i want to see dibble and i cannot stand those musketeer bitches. did they rly say that about him??? about dear sweet tsundere charlie dibble??? did they really call him uninteresting :sob: how can they tell lies like thaaattttt.... they dont get it. HELLO. THEY DONT KNOW HIM LIKE I DO... HES TC'S BABYGIRL??? PLEASEEEE
see the thing about tc's gang in jellystone is like. tc and benny are exactly the same as they always are. that's just tc and benny. and even as a woman, choo choo is literally the exact same. not even a little bit different. that IS choo choo. of course choo choo would transition and become the weirdo lesbian she was meant to be. thats just canon to me. brain is kind of similar to how brain is characterized in the comics, so i guess she's not really different? personally not really my favorite version of brain, to me brain is best when he's forrest gump as a cat, and jellystone brain just isn't that. but she's fine, she's close enough.
but jellystone fancy and spooky... i dont know who the fuck those are but theyre not fancy fancy and spook. those are impostors. jellystone fancy i at least like, i think he's funny as hell. and that's the point, jellystone's point is to be funny not sensical. so i'm fine with the thing among us impostor pretending to be fancy fancy. but spooky... the only thing i like about her is that her existence allows me to proclaim that all previous depictions of spook are women but otherwise she's nothing to me. im grateful i live in a world where i can look at hellcat spook from top cat begins and actively decide that she's a woman and there's canon basis to it though. so thanks, i guess

Top 5 lupin npc girls
OK THIS IS a really good question first off does rebecca count as an npc girl like she did have her own movie/clipshow.... if yes shes my absolute favorite i adore her if not well let me brainstorm the top 5
i think maria from tokyo crisis has to be there right? she fits PERFECTLY in the universe by being her own kind of overpowered shes zenis new daughter and genuinely its really refreshing to see a side character stick around with ZENIGATA instead of the lupgang for once? it feels like that doesnt happen very often its usually people hanging w lupin or trying to also arrest him... anyway i love maria shes so good shes THEE lupin npc girl she has purple hair and a cool watch what more can u want!!!!! i just found out she has a last name mariya isshiki i love u doesnt she have heart shaped earrings at one point. shes so good
i also really loved ellen from isle of assassins its one of the first lupin movies i watched so i dont know how much itd hold up to my CURRENT standards but i remember her having an actually interesting arc and motives and when things happen to her (good or bad!) i did care. everyone in that movie has a spider motif but i think if i rewatched the movie id go insane about HER spider motif you know.. like shes the spiders prey turned predator for the spider this is the exact same spider motif i use for one of my ocs so im biased but. interesting! themes and motifs! yipee!
i alsoooo liked judy (from siberia with love/bank of liberty) a lot shes lots of fun and her interactions w fujiko well... im a fujikogirl (gender neutral) the bit of character lore that she pressed charges against her boss for sexual harassment???? IDK theres something about that detail IN a franchise like lupin that almost feels like the movie is apologizing for the history of sexual assault. tho she does get re-traumatized later in the movie which -__- huge fucking fail. but ye like shes allowed to be scheming shes allowed to be a little wicked to backstab once or twice while still being sympathetic with a good heart which is!! refreshing!! judy was given nuance she felt like she really had her own life and her own world
i feel like so far ive been really in w the fandom consensus maybe this next one will be a surprise... i do love anita from operation return the treasure (one of my fave lupin movies!) shes an architect i believe! and she has this convo w goemon that i like its about art shes an artist theyre both artists.... the movie doesnt focus on her as much IIRC cause its got a lot of side characters but her moments are really nice and again i felt like she had her own world, her own troubles, her own passions, she felt real to me :]
i think well. i HAVE to mention this one cause i did start making her a playlist purely in my head as the ending of her movie played out shes from blood seal eternal mermaid NOT maki im talking about the titular mermaid misa HER CHARACTER as it unravels and we come to understand ALL of it the horror of fate the power of blood it was all very ... it GETS to something to me.. id have to rewatch it to tell you more but really i think maybe this movie shouldve had more body horror. but it did deserve what it got cause there IS something horrific about misas curse and that spoke to me that was really interesting to me. maybe she doesnt count as an npc girl the one of blood seal is maki but. i liked misas character theres something to it
i think the last ones gonna have to be the honorable mention to the little girl julia from farewell, nostradamus! i LOVE HER shes so much fun shes written really fun she has a character arc that makes SENSE for a... how old is she. 8yo? i love her little american voice: "daddy! mommy!" its so charming shes just so so small and she she has a Trusted Adult in fujiko and she has a whole thing about not wanting to go back home yet cause she feels like her parents are forgetting about her but when theyre reunited she IS happy she DOES love them they DO love her!!! shes really fun the whole movie i cared her so so much she had a lot of personality while still being believably a child
#I TYPED SO MUCH. but you have to know my thought process i like them all for different reasons :)#noticing i like it when the npc girl doesnt have a romance w lupin... i do like those sometime sundy from missed by a dollar was great#ask#anon#despanico#lupin the third
