People still making posts about how reylo is '100%' just people who want to self-insert to fuck the 'bad boy' in the Year of Our Lord 2024.
When will I know peace.

THE LAST JEDI SECOND VIEWING THOUGHTS *SPOILERS AHOY*
- so can someone hook a girl up with general leia organa's earrings thanks??? they are fly AF - tbh I was expecting to come into my second viewing of this movie and find more faults with it and concede the criticisms of it more after my personal hype died down but literally the opposite happened? It only solidified how great it is, how well written and meaningful, and debunked basically all of the criticisms of it that i’ve seen - there's a beautiful symmetry to poe's character development. what he does at the start is basically exactly what finn does at the end in the mine, and this time poe has learned from his experiences and acts as the voice of reason, not recklessness. his arc is really great and for anyone who has been watching rebels you’ll know the conflict between the action-oriented rebels on the ground and the strategic, long-game-playing generals is a major ongoing theme - on second viewing it's very clear that rey primarily treats kylo's potential turn as a tool for the resistance to win the war. she is being motivated by pragmatism, not primarily by compassion (though that's growing too) - people have expressed doubts as to whether rey would have developed compassion for kylo so quickly after initially despising him, but I realised on the second viewing that we're not actually shown the entirety of their force conversations from start to finish. after the mirror scene in the cave, it cuts to kylo and rey mid-convo. I kinda get the feeling they had been talking the whole night then, slowly getting to know each other, letting their walls down.
- i was expecting to be bored by the whole finn and rose at the casino subplot on the second viewing but it was still actually quite fun and engaging? not the strongest part of the movie for sure but definitely not a shitty waste of time like many are implying - I can concede that there could have been more over the top shots of decadence and hedonism at the space casino to make it more extra AF but seriously, the people criticising it as dull obviously have no appreciation of costume design. the costume designers fucking SLAYED the space casino with their sci-fi-haute-couture-avant-garde-realness and I think the costume design communicates more about that setting than anything else they did there. i could not take my eyes off the background characters’ lewks - most iconic yet underrated line so far: 'finn, let me learn you something big' - the sub-plot with del toro's character further reinforces the theme of finding balance between light and dark in this film. 'good guys, bad guys...made up words'. THIS IS IMPORTANT. REMEMBER THIS. this film isn't about good guys and bad guys, it's about finding balance between the two. morality is not as simple as it first appears. - i love how we get luke's version and kylo's version of the night kylo destroyed the temple, then find out the truth is somewhere in between. LOOK AT THAT THEME OF BALANCE BETWEEN EXTREMES GO AGAIN BOOIIIIIII - people who think reylo is debunked and kylo can't be redeemed really have no idea how to interpret the extremely obvious clues in this film and a big one I will learn you about is the art of the MUSICAL CUE. The moment rey and kylo touched hands, the skywalker theme came in LOUD and CLEAR, not manipulated or subverted at all but beautiful and deliberate. That is TELLING US SOMETHING BIG. think about it y'all. that wasn't there for nothing. - when that random solider tasted the ground, spat it out and said 'it's salt' that was 100000000% a comment on this dumpster fire of a fandom lmao - on second viewing i think i figured out how i feel about holdo. i think she was really well written from the writer’s perspective and i loooove her costume design but i just wasn’t feeling laura dern’s performance hugely. don’t get me wrong i mean her no shade and she was definitely a badass lady but idk i just didn’t feel her acting had much presence or strength. maybe that was the point? idk - the moment of absolute silence when holdo’s ship cuts the imperial fleet in half is one of the most breathtaking filmmaking choices in the whole movie
