Rule The World With Me-
Ivar the Boneless Ă Reader
Story Summary: Ivar travel's to Kiev to escape his brothers, where he meets you and hopes that you will be his queen.
Chapter Twenty: Prayers
Chapter Summary: This is the day and night before the battle.
Word Count 1,156
Warnings: Angst and Fluff
_____________________________________
Today is the day before the battle to keep your kingdom. You are praying to the gods for the best outcome for tomorrow because that is all really that you can do, you aren't fighting. You feel helpless to the cause. This is your kingdom and you are just sitting back and letting your brother-in-law's and husband do all the work.Â
âŚ
Hvitserk "So we take them in the tree line. We will have more cover and more leverage," he said pointing on the map.
Ivar "Yes, I agree. If they make it past the tree line, there needs to be a guard covering every entry into this house. Y/n will be in here and if anyone gets in, she'll be in danger and I can't have that."
Hvitserk "There should be at least three guards with her at all times until this battle is done."
"Guys...I can protect myself."
Ubbe "Easier said than done when you are almost 3 months pregnant."
Torvi "My husband is right, you need to stay safe Y/n."Â
"You are fighting Torvi...and you are more pregnant than me!"
Torvi "Because that is my choice. I want to fight for you and your family." You can't help but breathe deeply and sit back down.Â
Ubbe "This is all of our choice Y/n. We want to fight for you, by your side. Stop being so difficult." Ivar snapped and throws his drink of ale into Ubbe's face.
Ivar "Don't call her 'difficult!' She just wants to fight but I had a vision of her-"
Ubbe "What vision Ivar?" Ivar looks at Hvitserk and then back at Ubbe.
Ivar "She didn't make it. She died on the battlefield. We won but-"
Ubbe "You...are not fighting!"
"I know Ubbe..I know."
Hvitserk "I talked her out of itâŚ" Torvi walks over to you, joining you on your throne and pulls you into a hug. Ivar notices and gets choked up seeing such a moment. His flashbacks came back and he had to snap himself out of it before he broke down again. He can't break down in front of his brothers.
Ivar "Anyway," he said clearing his throat trying to get the sadness out of his voice. "I will lead you all, and the more and more people come in, the more warriors we will unleash. They won't know what hit them."
Hvitserk "First, we should unleash Kiev's army and then if they get through us, Ubbe will send in his warriors.."
Ubbe "I like that."
Ivar "This better work...my family is at stake here, brother's. We cannot fail.
Hvitserk "We won't fail, Ivar."
_____________________________________
The night beforeâŚ
It is very late at night as Hvitserk is standing outside on a balcony that overlooks Novgorod. His hand is gripping his sword, shaking a little. He looks up at the stars and begins to pray.
Hvitserk "Dear Odin, please be with us tomorrow. We need you now more than ever. Please rule in our favor, my family's lives are on the line. My godchild's life is on the line. If we win, this child can have an amazing life! Grow up in these walls and live a happy, risk-free life. I want that for him or her. Please, I speak to all the gods that can hear meâŚ.please, please allow us to win this battle. Help us get through this." You hear the ending and knock on the wall next to him, making him turn around.Â
"Hey." He quickly wipes a tear off of his cheek and then smiles.
Hvitserk "Hey, why are you still up? It's late."
"Can't sleep. Neither can Ivar but he is still in bed."
Hvitserk "yeah, neither can I."
"Yeah I heard. Well the last part anyway." You walk up and stand next to him and look at your view. "You are worried, aren't you?"
Hvitserk "No I-"
"Hvitserk.." he lowers his face and sniffles.
Hvitserk "Fine..yes I am worried."
"Will you tell me why?" You walk to stand next to him.
Hvitserk "For the first time...ever, I am worried about losing. I am worried about the consequences of losing. I am worried about...if we lose, we lose you."
"First of all, you are not going to lose me. And second of all, our army is 100x bigger than Prince Dir's! So why are you worried about losing?"
Hvitserk "There's always doubt Y/n."
"Well stop having doubt! Have faith Hvitserk."
Hvitserk "I do. That's why I prayed for help and guidance."
"Good. I will do the same. Pray with me?" He agrees and he grabs your hands in his and you pray together. Afterwards, you look up at him and smile.
"Better?"
Hvitserk "Yeah...much better. What would I do without you, little sis?"
"I don't know...I am the best." He laughs and pulls you into a bear hug.Â
Hvitserk "Now go to sleep, Ivar is probably wondering where you are by now."
"Okay, good night Hvitserk."
Hvitserk "Good night."
âŚ..
Ivar sits up in bed once you came into the room.
Ivar "How is he?"
"Worried. We prayed to the gods together and that seemed to help him."
Ivar "It's a crazy thing...for a viking to fear a battle."
"We will win, Ivar. We have too." He grabs your face and kisses your forehead.Â
Ivar "I know, and we will princess. I will make sure of it."
"What are we going to do with Prince Dir after the battle is won?"
Ivar "I will sacrifice him before the people of Kiev. Sacrifice him to the gods, thanking them for letting us win this war."
"Hmmm..isn't that tooâŚ.easy?"
Ivar "what do you suggest?"
"We can torture him a bit...and then crucify him. He is a Christian."
Ivar "He is?!"
"Oh yes.."
Ivar "Then we will crucify him. Make his precious god watch him suffer before he finally takes his last breath."Â
"SeeâŚ.that's a much better idea!"
Ivar "I mean he did threaten you and our child so I want him to suffer for what he has said and done."
"And he will, my king."
Ivar "Can you promise me something?" You look into his eyes, "Please stay inside. If you come out during the battle, I cannot guarantee your safety."
"Yes, I promise. And can you promise me somethingâŚ.don't die." He chuckles to himself and kisses your cheek, "I'm being serious! We need you Ivar. I can't do this without you...I won't live without you."
Ivar "I promise that I won't die, my love. I have to live for you and our child, right?"
"Right."
Ivar "If we have each other, then I will continue to live and fight for you every single day. You are my queen, you are the love of my life. You are my everything-" you stop him by kissing his lips and he grabs your cheek.
"And you are my everything Ivar...Forever."
Ivar "Forever."

POST-TROS Trilogy reactions, my own opinions.
I just saw The Rise of Skywalker. These are my opinions as someone who doesnât follow any of the actors (besides Adam Driverâs charity because thatâs something I wrote a paper on) or fandom drama (racism! sexism! something happened with John Boyega?)
Preface: I donât need outrage. I donât care. I will block you if youâre rude, period. This is my opinion and I am not a crazy fan, I just watch the movies about once a year and I enjoy every single one of them. I loved The Rise of Skywalker and found it to be a fantastic full circle for the entire 9 movie series as well as the trilogy. Donât need any negative vibes, thank you :)
Ben Solo
I really enjoyed Ben Solo. It felt like the point of the series was the redemption arc of Ben Solo. It was a symbolic repeat of Anakin/Vaderâs story line. Anakin was alone, taught by masters, tempted by the dark side, and then turned into a completely separate man. They both came back to themselves in time to save the day, but there is a massively key difference. Darth Vader is not Anakin, he is the darkness that lives inside of Anakin (and everyone has this darkness). Kylo Ren was the corrupted Ben Solo, but he never got the foothold in Benâs psyche that Vader got in Anakinâs. Anakin was controlled by Vader completely whereas Kylo Ren never had complete control over Ben (first example I can think of: He didnât shoot Leia when he had the opportunity to kill her). In the body of Anakin Skywalker, there is only Vader, whereas Benâs body has two battling minds: Ben v. Kylo Ren.
What I found really really cool was that Rey killed Kylo Ren. On the Death Star II in IX, where Darth Vader died in VI, Kylo Ren dies when he is stabbed by Rey. Then, with Reyâs help, Ben Solo is reborn as the only mind in his body. He was healed by light and love and then told that if he was just Ben Solo, she would have taken his hand. If he hadnât thought that he needed the Dark Side to be whole, he might have had everything that he could possibly hope for (romantic love, familial love, a future, power).
The tragedy of Ben Solo is that Luke saw him tempted by darkness and accidentally pushed him toward the darkness. If Luke had talked to him, expressed love and understanding instead of fear, then Ben Solo would never have been controlled by Kylo Ren. Instead, he fell and was corrupted only to be brought back by someone truly understanding him (which, other than through unstoppable access to his deepest thoughts, would have never happened) and then choosing to love him because of that understanding. Ben didnât have to bring Rey back, he could have just mourned her and disappeared to live his life, but he was driven to sacrifice himself by the love he felt for Rey.
I am a HUGE fan of a redemption arc and I think they pulled it off beautifully for him. His last words ever spoken (while holding Reyâs lifeless body) were âCan you hear me? Hold on.â The instant recognition of his goodness by Rey, the smile on his face when he saw the result of his sacrifice, and then their kiss (a recognition of his return to himself) was honestly just... it was achingly gorgeous. I really liked the film.
Rey
A strong force wielder, a mechanic, a scavenger, and an orphan. She kicks ass, she takes names, and she is the strongest Jedi the world has ever seen. Love her.
Finn
Finn is cool in VII and IX. He was funny, smart, and helpful in the first and last of the trilogy, both playing a stand alone and serious character while providing good comic relief. I also really appreciate the platonic nature of the relationship between him and Rey, something that could have turned romantic. Heâs a good soldier and he found his way out of the ranks of the Storm Troopers on his own. Heâs obviously less developed in VII because itâs the first movie, but heâs generally a nice guy (not a Nice Guy) and I was excited to see more from him. I loved his connection to BB-8 and Poe immediately.
In VIII, he did more harm than good. Had he not disobeyed orders and left the ship, less people would have died. He left the ship, freed that guy from jail, then that guy gave the plans away and made the bad guys aware of the escaping ships that they otherwise would have missed. If Finn had stayed put, those ships would have escaped. It was a failure in writing and his character would have been better served by not even being in the movie. His near-sacrifice didnât even make sense to me? He would have been obliterated by the laser before he could have reached it anyway? Give him something more epic, thank you please.
Then, IX. He kicked ass. I donât know what he was going to say to Rey, but everything he said to Poe was golden. They are a great duo and I enjoyed every moment they interacted. He was a good friend and he tried to keep his group together (mostly having to go after Rey when she was being a stubborn brick wall). I mean, Rey made it to the Death Star because she had a lot of experience with machinery and the force. He did it by sheer âI gotta save this dumbassâ willpower. He had a similar energy to Steve Harrington in Stranger Things (âmommy steveâ).
Poe Dameron
Love him. No complaints. He was Han Solo but less brash and more funny. He was funny as shit and I enjoyed him from the first moment we saw him. I really wish he was in more of the trilogy, but the parts that he was in were great. Him and Finn kicked some serious ass. I love the way that he incorporated Finn into his family unit immediately and then again with Rey. He is a dedicated and headstrong and funny pilot. Thatâs it.
Rose
Tbh, I donât care too much about her? I just disliked everything she did/was involved in in VIII and the way she was introduced was mishandled, really. She was 100x better in IX and I definitely cared about her more. Her introduction felt rushed and forced and she was a big character before I cared about her at all, then she was put into the worst plot line in the whole series (discussed in the Finn section). I think that they could do more with her, but I donât mind if they donât.
Luke Skywalker
His whole thing was kinda bullshit? He was the catalyst for the birth of Kylo Ren, he abandoned the galaxy when it needed him most, and he wasnât gay- those pussies. I didnât like when he yeeted his light saber, it felt disrespectful. Â I didnât like the way he died. I did like his personality and the way that he dusted off when Kylo Ren shot him all those times.
Leia Organa
People Iâve talked to keep bitching about her using the force and like... what? She was always force sensitive and she had a long time to learn between series. Plus, she lived with or around Luke for a long time before he decided to fuck off into a corner of the galaxy. She was a general and a Jedi and a gorgeously perfect woman. I also love the way that she was always ready to give her son another chance. The only way to get someone to come back is to tell them they are welcome and no matter what he did (HAN SOLO) she could always accept him if he changed. Adore.
Han Solo
He was also ready to help his son, if it was necessary. He had faith that Ben could do what needed to be done. Also, the version of him that is in Benâs memories is so sweet and fantastic. I loved that little bit. When Ben calls him âdadâ?? my heart melted. Plus, his mentorship of Rey combined with him and Chewieâs interactions? God, heâs cool.
I didnât like that he was so dispassionate though. That was bothersome, I would have thought he would have been more for-the-cause since he was connected to the rebellion the whole damn time. It would have been cool to have him havea moment where you saw that change.
Chewbacca, R2-D2, C3-PO, BB-8, and D-O
Obviously fantastic?
General Hux
rat bastard
Snoke
Weird thumb man
Palpatine
Aggressive tickle monster

Another note-
Rey/Ben
I saw it coming the moment I watched VII. I really enjoyed it. They both were so closed off to the world and so horribly alone for various reasons, both in and out of their control. They were tempted by the dark side and anger and hurt and betrayal. They were scared of their own burgeoning power. Where Reyâs powers and temptation were met with support, Ben was met with fear. That drove him down.
Because of their force bond, they were literally soul mates. Not in a romantic way! They literally were made with an unbreakable connection through the force and that allowed them to speak and know the depths of their hidden thoughts and desires and fears. Ben knew Rey better than anyone else did and better than he knew anyone else, the same is true in reverse.
Rey could see the dual nature of his mind and understood his struggle. She knew Ben Solo and she knew Kylo Ren. She also recognized that it was his fight to win and that all she could do was offer her hand to take if he wanted it. She admitted outright that she would have stayed with him had he been just Ben Solo when he offered her a place by his side. She was in love with Ben Solo as soon as she knew him and that was shown very explicitly in that moment by the fire, when they were both vulnerable and curious. In the moments that he was Ben, she would reach out to him. When he was Kylo, she had no interest.
I love that she had no interest in Kylo Ren. She wasnât about to stick around and fix him, that was his job. This sort of draws the line between physical attraction or shallow attraction and the true bond that she had with Ben Solo. She wasnât drawn to him out of interest, she loved him and understood him and was not going to be tricked by that love into falling for Kylo Ren. Super strong choice for her and it goes against a lot of Enemies to Lovers tropes.
When she stabs him, she kills Kylo Ren. When she heals him, she revives Ben Solo. She all but says that she loves Ben and that provides the momentum that he needs to move forward. She held out her hand one last time by saying that she would have stayed with Ben, then escapes for her own safety and the safety of the Rebels in case he makes the wrong decision once again.
Then the fight scene where she transfers him the saber? The way that he limps over to her and hold her in his arms? The way he smiles when he looks at her beautiful lively eyes? The kiss that said âYou saved my life/Iâm so proud of you/You are the only person in my entire life that truly understands meâ on both parts? Gawjus.

Danny Rand: An opinion.
Disclaimer: I did not watch The Iron Fist, nor do I know of his lore beyond what is presented in The Defenders; so mind my ignorance on that front. I wanted to go in seeing him somewhat developed and as part of a unit. The following input is simply my expression of what I gathered from my viewing of Defenders, in hopes to contribute to a larger discussionâitâs just discourse about a fictional character in a fictional show on my blog. Genuinely not a huge deal. Please be respectful in response. Spoilers for The Defenders, ahoy! (Highly recommend it, by the way).
When the first Iron Fist reviews started hitting the web, it was so disappointing. I fully intended to see the origins of the final member of the team seamlessly slide into place, and like a lot of people, was confounded at how Marvel could only execute 3/4 of the protagonists to such a high standardâand fall flat on the one who turns out to be particularly integral to The Defendersâ plot.
First and foremost: Finn Jones is not the issue. I donât think heâs ever been the principal issue when issues were present. He is a very talented actor; he was excellent on Game of Thrones (which is so unerringly good that I consider it to be one of the ultimate tests of a performer), and plays a similarly caddish character hereâthough thatâs where the resemblance ends. So Finn Jones is fine. Solid American accent, great stunt work; anyone who has to train to play a superhuman is already pretty cool. He canât help defective writing and politics, poor guy. I donât blame him for any former shortcomings (including his original haircut).
Now for an analysis of Danny Rand, as played in The Defenders:
. . . I gather that heâs had a rough time. I also suspect that he has evolved in a dramatic way; I saw someone say he was â100x more likable in this seriesâ and found myself baffled at how he might have been portrayed in his own to earn that statement. I think that his primary saving grace in both Iron Fist and Defenders is Colleen Wing, plain and simple. Iâm not the first person to say that, but itâs a fact. She fought and vouched for him when I didnât immediately, and it made me look him closer and ask, What else is here?
I think there are a lot of positive aspects of his characterâin this new environment, at least. Like most, I do think his treatment by the others is particularly funny, just because they have no idea how to handle this person and his weird stories, combined with his flippant attitude and high profile. I love that the writers allowed Luke to address Dannyâs privilege outright (in addition to showing them both in the odd position of getting their behinds kicked by one another). I like that heâs portrayed as having PTSD early on and that you can see tears in his eyes on multiple occasions; emotional vulnerability in âstrongâ male characters is something I have longed to see more of in film. He also does end up having some good conversations, especially with Luke and Matt, that really do challenge him.
I also like that he initiated the âteamâ mindset; he doesnât see an issue with it at all. Itâs like a group project for him; he hasnât always simmered in solidarity quite like most of the others have. And despite how irking his blind confidence can be at moments, I think itâs kind of great that he just walked into that boardroom and went all âI am the special immortal metal handâ on those folks, and expected to just kind of. . . deal with it. Like thatâs cute, sweetie. Good for you, honey.
Here is why I respect him more than I thought I would: He really does try, in the endâand not just for himself and Colleen. You get the sense in his conversation with Elektra (or I did) that at one point in time, he would have 110% given in and opened that door, based on verbal persuasion alone. You also see Guo trying to twist him around, and he tells her she cannot manipulate him anymore. Thatâs solid development. Also, he offers to use his resources to help the others, and seems almost sheepish about his status. Itâs endearing.Â
Within their debut seasons, his teammates all managed to: a) come to terms with their abilities, b) defeat at least one [branch] of a big bad, and c) ultimately come out as more of a victor than the oppositeâdespite losing people they cared about (or in Jessicaâs case, really kind of losing all sense of self, security, or control, which is just as awful).
I donât think Danny completed this arc, though. He lost. Like he straight up did not win his first boss battle. We picked up with him following a vague lead on the Hand (because Bakuto got away). A whole city that he was meant to command died on his watch (which we learn was Elektraâs doing, a person who he couldnât consider killing because of Matt). He never seemed to find real closure about his parents (Guo slipped out of his reach at the last moment). And above all? We hear frequently that he is nowhere near his full potential mentally or physically. So hereâs my big question that I am grappling with, as a writer and a fan: Why should this be such a problem for me?Â
I have always believed that characters should be allowed to screw up and be messyâto fail. I find that manner of explicit humanity far more interesting. . . and yet I approached this series discrediting this character. He really is not in the same boat as the rest of them; he has been directly handed (no pun intended) a legacy, a duty, a title. He had an ancient army at his feet. He was trained his whole life to be more than human.
Look at the others: Matt is the most similar (by a long shot); though his abilities were the result of the chemicals that blinded him, he received formal training via Stick. We know little of Jessicaâs past besides her accident and corresponding PTSD; she had no training of her powers. If anything, she does her best to mar them. Luke grew up in a city where violence and injustice were prevalent, given his abilities deliberately and without his consent during his adult life. Again, no formal training, just brute strength and a good heart. Now here comes Danny Rand! Twenty-something Caucasian bajillionaire! Batman-like fortune and parental demises! Heâs homeless with a side of memory-loss (cough Oliver Queen cough)! Who is he! Teach him kung fu with a pretty, determined Asian lady! He is still rich! Have some Asian culture! A blatant chest tattoo! A glowing fist he can only summon in very selective circumstances! . . . Itâs easy to mock, in context.
Itâs different, because itâs a riches to rags story. And now more than ever, thatâs not a conventional formula people seem interested in, especially with a white guy at the helm (and directly following not only the 2016 presidential election, but progressive stories like Jessica Jones and especially Luke Cage). A lot of people didnât want to like him. I didnât think I would like him.
Look. What ends up redeeming this dude for me is the fact that he is still actively developing after nearly twenty episodes heâs been featured inâall within a five month window. Matt is the only one who has had subsequent seasons released yet! Dannyâs unusually compact timeframe is the reason I am okay with his sluggish developmentâbecause Iâm starting to suspect it is at least partially intentional; the pace of his progression is to counteract the abrupt amount of his story unveiled.Â
Here is my verdict on Danny Rand and his arc within this new installment: I am tentatively leaning in, reluctantly intrigued. Kind of like Luke prior to his rescue (âI owe him that muchâ). I almostâalmostâempathized with him in his final scene, when he said he felt like he had found a home. . . Then again, Colleen was there, too  Iâm mostly kidding.
I canât say for certain if Iâll go back and watch season one of Iron Fist. I almost like it better having him introduced nowâas if this was his pilot. Either way, I hope by the time the second chapter of Defenders debuts (probably around 2045), Iâll actually watch for his individual arc, too, rather than tagging along with his story to see how the othersâ got on.
P. S. â The shot when he legit throws thirty people meters away with a punch and triggers one of the coolest fight sequences Iâve ever seen. . . Points for that.
#the defenders#danny rand#marvel#the iron fist#netflix#i spent... an obscene amount of time on this#this is my life#this is what happens when i'm not at college#it's a result of stress i know it is
