nicole could never, would never forgive her inquisitive brother for giving into his worst nature; snooping through her phone after she refuses to give him details about the "friends" she's been spending most of her time with. to get upset over findings that he wasn't privy to in the first place. thankfully, she's smart enough to keep the contact info vague. mainly, nicky's pissed HE'S upset about the fact she's fucking an older man and doing such disgusting, depraved shit for him INSTEAD of the group chats she has with her girlfriends and other derelicts discussing buying and bringing the hallucinogenics to their little sleepovers, the raves they enjoy sneaking off to. what the hell are the standards? she's ranting about this to harely. coaxed to ardent, shrill pitch after she takes off to meet up with him after the blowout fight with her big brother. reassuring him james is a shit detective because he doesn't recognize his own boss is the man bedding his sweet baby sister, nicky gets a little caught up in the fervent desperation, the constant craving to be his. she's giving in to her petulance, the youthful notions of running away, and dipping her toes into hyper-independence just to be with him. though when she quiets and then blinks up to ask him if he'd let her live with him if she were to move out she's 100% serious and 100% heartbroken as harley dismisses that seriousness. like he’s insulting how devout she’s been of her own god. wordlessly, she’s off his lap and pulling her iphone out of the purse left on his coffee table. the fast-paced nature and convenience of modernity is a double-edged sword. the girl paces in front of him. silent as she solidifies plans with her friends by the time she’s scouring her bookmarks for that list of choice apartments. doesn’t take long to find a place with availability in such a bustling city. she’s sent the fees and deposits and was currently waiting for confirmation on her move-in date minutes since the start of her eerie silence. that’s when she’s turns her focus back to harley. pressing her lips against his in a wordless goodbye, nicole can’t help but loath the sudden burst of ire that now tinges on her feelings for him. she’s always hated feeling angry with those she loves.

she turns off her phone for good measure as she leaves, so he can’t access her location as she sneaks down to jersey to let loose for a weekend. nicky truly doesn’t expect him to find her, anyone really. not when she’s off at some random house party hosted by a friend of a friend instead of her usual clubs. she’s lonely, missing harley already, and blaming it on the m.olly so she can use that too as the excuse for wanting to sneak down to the basement to check her phone. claiming to need a break from the disorientating music, flashing lights, and the haze of smoke. when her stupid phone comes alive she’s got too many messages from james and none from harley. it’s not until she’s tossed the phone across the room with a screech in an uncharacteristic display of rage that she notices the masked, looming figure lurking in the corner of the basement, near the busted cellar door once. phone makes contact with the tip of a thick black, combat boot. her blood chills when she processes the intensity of the situation, “—- sorry, i’m looking for my boyfriend to leave,” she lies through her teeth, now hoping the very man she’s avoiding at the moment at least has a starting point where to look for her. “cute costume, you hiding because you got the theme wrong?” the question’s a red herring; nicky doesn’t miss a beat spinning around and sprinting back up the stairs. she’s almost made it, nearing the top of the stairs; hand grasping the doorknob so tightly she can feel the music reverberate through the door frame when a hand grasps at her ankle even tighter and YANKS her back. she screams mid-fall, yelps like wounded prey getting dragged back. the party a perfect cover for her audible desperation and terrified screams. her phone's just out of reach, well-manicured nails clicking against the plastic case as she struggles to bring it nearer; feeling the familiar weight of a man’s body pinning her to the floor like she’s nothing to them. an origami flower you could crush or tear apart with the wrong move. “PLEASE. my boyfriend’s the chief, he’ll know something is wrong if i don’t reach out. i won’t tell him about this! i won’t tell. i promise!!” she’s openly sobbing, though still trashing under him until he grabs a fistful of inky hair to immobilize and use as leverage against her. “a-are you going to kill me? please... don’t HURT me. i promise i’ll do anything.” a blinding flash of light leaves her even more distorted than the m.olly, seeing bursts of spots and colors before her hazy vision refocused; the fucking asshole took a picture of her, immortalizing her terror and desperation with her own cellphone.
