Hot take, the reason so many people think c!Dream is 100% pure evil is that term “morally gray” has been reduced by media to “commits atrocities but they were sad so its not their fault” or “perfect good hero but they make mistakes sometimes”
Like, as much as I love c!Dream and joke about him being a poor pathetic meowmeow who did nothing wrong, I know he has done some HORRIBLE things. But he has complicated motives, he does morally right things that don’t aid his motives, he has fears and trauma and acts according to his own moral code. He may be on the darker end of the morally gray spectrum, but the fact that people insist every emotion and action he takes is some directionless chaotic evil outburst just goes to show how much media literacy is failing people.
Fandom is so much more fun when you just relax and let yourself enjoy exploring the spectrum of fictional morality
#not to vent but#i am SO TIRED of people calling a character morally gray#when theyre either just ‘sad villain’ or ‘reluctant/imperfect hero’#especially in the dsmp fandom bcz some of the most INTERESTING characters are morally gray#obviously dream quackity sam and wilbur#but tommy steals and hurts people! he said to tubbos face that he cared about the discs more!#tubbo tried to have a retired technoblade executed and exiled his own best friend!#punz!! just everything abt punz!!#bbh is morally gray but hes also just straight up a wildcard which is great#honestly the only characters i would define as morally binary are#1 XD but that could change when we seem more of him#2 charlie slimecicle bcz he was far too gunky and goopy to do anything wrong#everyone else is complicated and thats good!!!#have sympathy for the devil and dont put your heroes on a pedestal!! theyre all human (figuratively anyway)#and that makes the story SO much more interesting#im very passionate about critical thinking and fiction theory if u couldn’t tell lol#dreblr
