This makes me so upset
You hate all outdoor cats because of one instance where a lost cat would have been found sooner if taken to a shelter- maybe redirect your anger then towards our huge stray cat overpopulation problem then? Rather than cats who healthily live both indoors and outdoors?
Because the consequences of your little anecdote goes both ways
My cat loves going outside- if we try and keep her inside too long she gets super wound up and tries everything she can to go outside (and yes, we play with her often, yes we have plenty of indoor stimulation as well ((especially when we have blizzards and super cold nights when it’s unsafe to let her out)) she is so well loved and even plays with my dog when we aren’t home)
One day though she didn’t come back home, and was missing for a week until we put up posters
Someone had taken our cat, who had lost her collar bc we have the slip collars or whatever they’re called so she doesn’t choke, and been mistaken for a stray and decided to keep her
They then had taken our cat inside and faced the same thing we do where she was constantly trying to get out, until they saw the posters and released her
She found her way back to our house easily bc she knows to return there. She’s smart, she’s been going outside since she was a kitten (as she was adopted and already loved being outside when we got her) and always without fail comes home
So I’m sorry if maybe I’m just reading your post the wrong way out of my own personal experiences, but to me it sounds like you’re doing the exact same thing as the ppl who caused that lady so much heartache by not handing the cat over to the shelter by keeping a cat after three days
You, out of spite, saying “my cat now” after THREE DAYS because of some vendetta for outdoor cats makes me sick. Because that means there is someone out there like you who could see my cat and just take her. (My cat is microchipped, so by your rules you wouldn’t take her, but there are others out there who do not check for that.)
You could be the very same cause of so much grief and heartache and fear because of the same ignorance you’re calling out
“Making it my (soon to be indoor) cat” is such a cruel way to phrase what you’re describing.
happy earth day. don’t forget that someone else’s outdoor cat is your indoor cat
