Hudson and Rex S02E17 - The Graveyard Shift - PART B

Well, I'm not even in the middle of the episode yet. I'm scared.

Mankiewicz: "That's what I like about you, Hudson. Cheeky. Even under the most challenging of circumstances". Makes me think that none of the criminals in St. John's are professionals, because cheekiness in this situation would normally get one pistol whipped.

Dude has thought of everything. Too bad that Rex is a superdog.

I can't believe they had the forethought to back everything up and then instead of locking the flash drive in a secure location, they left it with Jesse!

He really, really shouldn't. Nor should he expose it to extreme weather temperatures.

Rex: Second time, only tonight. I want a raise.

Poor Charlie. But I love Mankiewicz's sadistic streak.

"I could never hurt a dog". Why would Mankiewicz reveal that? Also, I don't think Kai over there has the same sensitivity.

I want it on record that Rex was the one to hatch the plan for them to escape. At least the camera work and editing are showing that.

So how come not one of the police officers recognized any of Mankiewicz's posse? Most of these guys must be in the system and a lot of them must have been arrested by this precinct, right?

I think this is the smartest Charlie has ever been in six seasons. I might call him a himbo sometimes but I have to give credit where credit is due. And they're actually showing us instead of telling us. Bravo.

I'm sorry, Joe heard a voice that sounded like Charlie but said about Jesse, "His girl is about to dump him" and he didn't get suspicious? Since when would Charlie be so mean when talking about Jesse? Also, I thought the point of this phone call was to get Joe suspicious but that's not what happened.

The next part needs a heavy dose of suspension of disbelief, as Rex pulls the fire alarm to get the doors to open.

Rex: Argh, why can't humans understand me?

Well, she snatched the flash drive from Jesse with three cops watching and no one realized.

Okay, we do not need any more of Charlie's weaknesses in that building. But for my own enjoyment, go ahead.

If I was Sarah, I'd definitely have a couple of questions about what exactly Charlie has been telling about her to criminals.

Well, of course she'd say that.

I love this line! It's my favorite line in the entire show. The sass!

"Let her go". Why didn't you negotiate before? Now you have no bargaining chip. They already have all three of you. Okay, maybe he didn't have time to think things through because Mankiewicz said, "I'm killing Sarah in ten seconds". Fair.

"You okay?" Ever since she started working in this precinct with you, probably not.

When Mankiewicz started leaving with Rex I'd seriously wondered if this was a two-parter.

"What do you mean, go with him? You go with him!"

Even more unrealistic part of the plot. While supposedly the criminals had been hatching this plan for sometime and we can assume they've gotten samples of Charlie's voice from various sources (the guy had already given one tv and one podcast interview that we saw), Jesse is now using Morgan's voice. Which he got from... where?

Rex: Ah, finally, I get to bite the dirtbag.

me when I watched the first time: Who could this boot belong to? (We don't get to see their shoes much.)

"Jesse, the hug was real". Shoo, Morgan. We don't accept ladies with criminal record who just fooled us.

Chapter 48: The Step-Mother-in-Law 15

The Li family had several servants, but if you divide them into different rooms, there are not actually that many. When the couple got back home, Master Li closed the courtyard door. The servants belonging to the main yard were silent and even their footsteps were muted. Under such circumstances, who dared to run around? What if they happened to be absent when the master summons them, wouldn't they be asking for death?

Therefore, Ge Gen asked several people in the back alley of the Li family, but only learned that the couple seemed to have quarreled last night, and Master Li seemed unhappy when he went out this morning.

There was no way of knowing whether the two people quarreled seriously or what they quarreled about. The harder it was to find out, the more worried Ge Gen became when he heard some servants speculating that something had happened to the main yard today. He kept lingering at the side door. The couple did quarrel. Yan Songyu had been in the Li family for many years and had given birth to two children. She and Master Li could be regarded as respectful guests. She felt that she could not be weak in this matter, so she argued hard. "The things given by the Ge family are not very valuable, and most of them are just trinkets." She said again, "I don't want to bother you with their family's affairs! If I had known you cared so much, I would have told you at the beginning." "How much did you accept from them?" Master Li only cared about his own face. If his wife asked for benefits from her former husband's family and people knew about it, they would laugh at him.

Yan Songyu lowered her eyes: "After all these years, how would I know?" After a pause, she emphasized: "Zhang Manyue is the only one who cares about this matter. The Ge family really treats us as relatives and has never thought of taking back those gifts. Master Li was furious: "So you feel at ease taking them?" Yan Songyu fell silent: "Master, I also want to reciprocate the gifts with ones of equal value, but I... it's difficult. I married up when I married you. My mother-in-law doesn't like me, my sisters-in-law look down on me, and even the servants don't take me seriously, so I can only reward them more..."

Yan Songyu wailed and was about to bang her head against the wall: "Just as you said, I disturbed her life. Then I will compensate her with my life. Anyway, I can't live without you."

The couple quarreled, and all the servants retreated outside the house.

Yan Songyu was determined to stay, and she was very ruthless this time. Even though Master Li reacted and reached out to pull her back, she still hit the wall. Her forehead instantly became red and swollen, and she fell limply to the ground, slowly closing her eyes. Master Li never thought about wanting her to die. His expression changed slightly and he ordered: "Go and call for the doctor." No matter who it is, as long as they don't really want to die, when hitting the wall they will subconsciously hold back, not to mention Master Li also pulled her back. Even if he didn't pull her, Yan Songyu wouldn't be hurt that badly. Not to mention dead, Yan Songyu didn't even faint.

However, she lay still on the bed. The doctor came, took her pulse and said, "If the patient doesn't feel dizzy and doesn't show any signs of vomiting, it's fine." Judging from the atmosphere in the room, it seemed that the couple had a quarrel that caused this. The doctor wouldn't ask too many questions or say unnecessary words to persuade him. He just dispensed the medicine and left. Ge Gen, who was at the side door, heard that the eldest madam had invited a doctor, and saw the maid hurriedly came out to pick him up. Ge Gen spent a lot of money, and finally pried open a woman's mouth, and learned that the eldest madam had hit her head against the wall today and wanted to die. The moment he heard it, he felt cold all over. Master Li's face was ashen at this time. He had lived for half his life and had seen many doctors treating people. Most doctors will exaggerate the severity of the patient's condition, but the one just now didn't say a harsh word, only said that it would be fine if she didn't show those two symptoms... Generally, external injuries are most serious when they first happen. Yan Songyu hasn't vomited until now, and is sleeping peacefully. How could it be anything major? "Get up." I won't care about what happened before, and I will bury you in my ancestral land, and you will be my wife for life!"

Yan Songyu: "..." How could it be like this? She worked hard to be the eldest madam of the Li family to make her life better, not for glory after death. Her face was obviously pale. When Master Li saw it, he became more and more convinced that she was hypocritical. "If you don't leave, I will give you a divorce letter!" Yan Songyu's hands under the quilt clenched instantly: "Master, you are angry. Words said in anger always hurt people. I won't argue with you. If you want me to leave, then I will leave." Master Li said sarcastically: "I also want you to die, so why don't you die? " ..." She knew that this man was difficult to get along with, but she had never noticed that he was so aggressive. She immediately smiled bitterly and said: "If I am forced to death by you, how will the two children deal with it after they find out?" The implication was that she didn't want to trouble her children. Master Li saw through her thoughts and said: "Then you should die far away. Go back to your parents' home and die, then the children won't suspect anything." In Yan Songyu's view, after many years of marriage, it was too much for him to turn against her in one day. She said angrily: "What did I do wrong that you insist on letting me die? Even if I accepted gifts from others, I should just have to give them back."

"You're the one who said you'll die if you leave me!" Master Li waved his hand: "I'm too lazy to talk to you, get out of here."

He had a look of disgust on his face. Yan Songyu saw it and knew that she had to work hard to restore their husband and wife relationship. She had to take it step by step, and it was not appropriate to entangle him at this time. She immediately cried and asked people to pack her luggage and prepared to go back to her parents' home.

Ge Gen was worried and kept waiting in the alley. Then he saw Yan Songyu's carriage. He also saw that after her carriage went away, she stuck her head out and cried silently at the gate. He chased after her. The carriage was very fast, and Ge Gen only had two legs, so how could he catch up? Half an hour later, he arrived at the former Yue residence, which was now the Yan residence. The Yan family used to make a living by working for others, and they were not even as good as the Ge family. Now they have opened shops, and the three largest shops are doing booming business, which was a world of difference from the past. And all this was brought by Yan Songyu marrying into the Li family.

Seeing her return, the whole family came out to welcome her. "Songyu, why didn't you tell me in advance so that your brother could pick you up?" The gray-haired Mother Yan held her daughter's hand and smiled so hard that you couldn't even see her eyebrows. Yan Songyu was unhappy. Seeing the flattery on her mother's face, her expression softened: "I wanted to come back and stay for a few days."

"If you like to stay, stay." Mother Yan smiled and said, "I have someone clean your room every day. It's very clean. You can go to sleep anytime." Not long after Yan Songyu came in, the whole family surrounded her and talked a lot. She was feeling annoyed when Ge Gen arrived. Mother Yan frowned: "Songyu, you are the wife of the Li family now. Even if Guangping is in the Ge family, you should not associate with Ge Gen anymore." She said earnestly: "This man, no matter how generous he usually behaves, is actually stingy. If the Li family knew, I'm afraid they would be angry." At this time, Yan Songyu had no good feelings towards the Ge family and did not want to see them. However, Ge Gen was too persistent and would not leave until he saw her. There were so many people coming and going outside the Yan residence, if there was a real entanglement  there is no guarantee that it would not spread to the ears of the Li family. Mother Yan had no choice but to ask her grandson to bring Ge Gen in through the back door. Moreover, he insisted on staying and keeping an eye on the two of them, just to avoid suspicion for her daughter. Ge Gen heard that Yan Songyu crashed into the wall to commit suicide. He had been worried all along the way, and he could no longer hold back. As soon as he entered, he said: "Songyu, no matter what happens, you can't commit suicide!"

Yan Songyu had a white cloth wrapped around her forehead. Just now, the Yan family also questioned her, and she said she had a headache and couldn't bear the wind. After hearing this, Mother Yan hurriedly reached out to lift it. The movement was too hasty and rubbed Yan Songyu's injury, causing her to cry out in pain. When Mother Yan saw the bruise on her forehead, her face changed drastically: "What is this!?" She slapped the table: "Are all the Li family members dead? No, I have to go and demand an explanation." Yan Songyu covered her forehead with one hand and subconsciously grabbed her: "Mom, don't make trouble."

She said in a deep voice: "You were injured so badly, and the Li family didn't even give us an explanation." She scolded again: "And you. Even if the sky falls, your life is the most important. How can you seek death? What were you thinking!?"

Yan Songyu was already aggrieved and her heart was full of fear. After being scolded by her mother, the tears she had just suppressed flowed out again. From the corner of her eye, she saw the helpless Ge Gen beside her and said angrily: "It's all because of you!"

Mother Yan suddenly noticed something was wrong and asked in confusion: "What does it have to do with him?" Thinking of Zhang Manyue's recent departure from the Ge family and knowing her daughter and Ge Gen had not stopped contacting each other all these years... She was frightened when she thought of a certain possibility, and shouted: "Tell me clearly!" Ge Gen wiped his face and explained all the recent events. "I heard that Song Yu wanted to commit suicide, and I was really worried, so I chased her here." Mother Yan frowned, "It was all Zhang Manyue's fault? What does she want?" Yan Songyu cried and complained: "She was unwilling to leave the Ge family, and she deliberately made things difficult for me." She said angrily, "I didn't force her to leave, how can she blame me?"

On the other side, not long after Master Li drove Yan Songyu away, he was leaning on the couch and sulking. Two children rushed over, and their words were full of worry.

Seeing the children, his heart softened, and he felt that he had gone a little too far. Thinking that Yan Songyu was still injured, he ordered his attendant: "Invite another doctor to take a look at her." 

The attendant rushed over with the doctor, but was turned away. Because Ge Gen was inside. The attendant was not stupid. He was careful and bribed a child to go over and ask around, and he learned the truth. He immediately led the Li family servants over and forced his way in, and happened to bump into Ge Gen who was running out in a panic. When the attendant saw the panic on his face, his expression immediately changed. Ge Gen: "..." I can explain, really!

Okay so loved you using the "it's not right now" when Elena responded to Rebekah's question, just like what Damon said to Elena.

And...I wonder if Elijah would have given Stefan back his memories? I kind of thought maybe he did, since only another original could over ride another originals compulsion. Of course Elijah would have to know what the compulsion was though in the first place, which he shouldn't, but he's pretty shrewd so who knows.

Haha and I'm totally hating on Elijah too, I'm like just HOW DARE YOU the entire time, especially in regards to Elena and how he betrayed her. But I must admit I loved some of his zingers back at Klaus re you kept us daggered.

And OMG how will it play out with Esther back. Will you have her be basically the same as in canon or are there going to be changes with her plot and wanting to kill all of them?

Sorry this took a while to respond to, it got buried with all of the end of semester/holiday stress!

in seriousness, if anyone ever found out how much tvd affected my brain when I was like 21 no one would ever trust me with anything important ever again 

I think Elijah is real shrewd but he’s also much more of a manipulative bastard than the show so often tries to frame him as (he’s definitely not actually moral or honorable or all that heroic-- he just admires those qualities and does a great job of exuding the semblance of those things). I think if he thought there was any advantage to be had against his siblings, and he wanted to somehow outmaneuver them in that way, then he would give Stefan his memories back, but otherwise, like if he thinks he and his siblings are getting along/have common goals/Klaus can be persuaded to go along with what he wants, then he would probably just leave poor Stefan to suffer in ignorance. 

My favorite part of this chapter was probably the back and forth about Klaus lowering the bar for himself just a little further vs. Elijah building himself a throne up in the heavens as a monument to his vanity, etc etc. Every time I reread that during revisions I had sort of forgotten about that back and forth and it always made me laugh?? I hate-love them so much. 

The pretty universal hate for Elijah this chapter has surprised me. He’s such a fan favorite! I guess at this point, whoever has stuck around this deep into this fic has to be ride or die for Team Elena, and she very much so is NOT happy with Elijah. He’s definitely a threat to the niche she’s carved out for herself, plus, she’s undergoing very painful disillusionment. She had trusted and relied on him so much, and in a way, all of her problems can be laid at his feet because he’s the one who didn’t go through with his end of the bargain. It’s arguable that Klaus only found out about her at all because of Elijah trying to smoke him out in season 2/drawing attention to her (especially since Katherine, Rose, and Trevor were all neutralized well before Klaus caught wind of Elena’s existence... so it had to have been Elijah who outed her existence to Klaus somehow). To think she might have gone on living a (relatively) normal life if not for Elijah. 

My take on the characters tends to be “try to figure out what they said/did/expressed as their goals in canon and then use that information to figure out what they would do in a new set of circumstances”-- so, Esther definitely would want to kill all of her abomination children. She definitely hasn’t seen anything that would change her mind, and we know from the hints in chapter 10 that she was fucking around with Alaric’s ring and the Other Side business. It’s just a matter of whether or not she could succeed in offing her children. Finn certainly agrees with the idea that they need to all leave the mortal plane, and that the only possible way to actually save the lot of them is to end their unnatural existences and move on in the cycle of Life/Death/(Rebirth?) that they were torn out of.

I need to know something. why shouldn't people take allegations against Sabat whether they are true or not but should take allegations against Mignogna seriously whether they are true or not? Is it because there's more evidence on him then Sabat and Huber's claims have no weight to them and the fact he's defending Mignogna despite the guy actually works at FUNimation and Chris Ayers said something about FUNimation having worse working conditions, adding weight to some of the claims?

I think that is the main reason people are giving Sabat more leeway, yeah.

Keep in mind, the whole kickvic situation didn't come out of nowhere. People have been making claims of his inappropriate behaviour for over a decade. Multiple women, many of whom didn't know each other, had or have since come forward with accounts from awkward experiences with him.

He had a reputation among people running conventions as a "problematic guest", and him being somewhat of an invasive creep was apparently an open secret among fellow Funi voice actors, and pretty much no one seemed all that surprised by his behavior or jumped to his defense when it all went public, at most Monica Rial admitted that she hadn't been aware he'd acted inappropriately with more women than her and that's why she kept silent about her own experience.

Vic being fired and the kickVic movement exploding was just where things finally reached a boiling point and the wider anime community and general public finally started to take notice, probably helped by the fact the Broly movie had just come out so Vic was a very relevant talking point at the time.

The sheer amount of accusations and the fact people were becoming more aware of how long these stories have been going on was a big part of why so many people were ready to drop Vic so quickly. I know plenty of people on Twitter who admitted to being neutral when the controversy first erupted, but started to firmly believe the accusations the more people came out about it including hearing personal accounts of his attitude at cons from friends.

It was very easy for a lot of us to buy that he was guilty, because if there was no truth to the situation at all, then things wouldn't have erupted and accusations wouldn't have been made on the scale that they were, nor would everyone at Funi would have likely been so quick to drop him.

If one or two people had suddenly come forth out of nowhere making accusations against him and Vic didn't already have a reputation as a suspicious con creep, I think a lot more people would have been more lenient and willing to give him a chance. But that wasn't close to the reality of the situation.

I think with the current situation with Sabat, it feels a lot more abrupt to a lot of people and the circumstances a bit more murky. Especially coming out while that whole lawsuit Vic's involved in was ongoing and clearly not going in his favor, so I think a lot of people are just suspicious about the possibility of Vic's more rabid supporters making stuff up or twisting the situation to their advantage, especially in regards to the leaked DM.

Again as I've said before, I'm currently neutral on the situation and waiting to see how things play out. I don't doubt there's a possibility that Sabat might be guilty of some of these accusations, but I'm not a detective and based on the information we currently have it's an open question for now.

I think we should take things seriously and not just dismiss the accusations as something that couldn't possibly be true. But while I don't think Sabat is a perfect person by any means, before now I've heard nothing to suggest he's a real scumbag and among a lot of people, including fellow voice actors, he's pretty well liked and respected. So for the time being I think that's bought him a little more leeway with people by comparison.

I dunno, things could suddenly blow up and more accusations of inappropriate behaviour come pouring in and like you said, even Chris Ayers has suggested some people behind the scenes of the anime voice acting industry are involved in that kind of mistreatment so it's not like there's no basis at all for such a thing. It's largely why I'm not expending too much energy rushing to Chris's defense. But given the context, I can see why people might be reacting differently in this situation.

Ymmv on whether that's fair or not I guess. This is just me trying to make sense of things.

I have already read all the backstory about YW and still I don't like the guy at all (I really wish that HB goes to America and finds a person that really appreciate and loves him, not some a***ole like YW), once again sorry to all the YW lovers, but try to be realistic about him for a minute, the only good thing about him is his undeniable love for his mother, being handsome shouldn't be enough to forget all the damage hi has caused so far to wonderful people (JM and HB).

Why I still don’t like him? well, first: a shitty childhood can’t be enough to forgive all the actions of YW until this point, so If he steals his friend’s jar all shall be forgiven ‘cos he is a child and he’s just jealous?, sorry but nothing excuse a person to steal another person possession and what is more amazing is how he is totally incapable of some sort of empathy with other people feelings, he has always thought about himself and his mother without thinking about how all his actions have hurt a lot of people in the process (Semi, JB, JM) and he actually doesn´t even care, so why exactly should YW be liked? all because of his face? that’s all you look for in your SO? I don’t think so. 

Second: in ch 84 is evident that all for him is a game and he just want something fun to past the time, because he’s always bored and needs some new entertaiment (HB in this case T_T), he admits it “at the start, it was a joke” so he didn’t kiss HB out of love (be realistic, he wanted to make HB nervous and he succeded, he wasn’t think “oh, how cute looks HB or I kind of like him”, nope, everything was a big fat joke to him, har har ¬_¬).

Third: I don´t really care if after that kiss he began to fall in love or whatever, the facts are that he toyed from the begining with HB insecurities and feelings, is that a good start for a relationship? then, let´s keep going, they start dating, so why not use a girl and her feelings for me to date another guy without suspicions, great plan, ‘cos that’s what YW wanted at the time, meanwhile HB’s father finds out about their relationship and I’m totally sure he threatens his own son and beat him up a few times (ch 21 flashback can be a perfect example of what HB had to endure to be with YW), and after all that drama YW realizes that the most important thing is his mother and his future, so nothing else matters, even after all the suffering HB has to go through for his selfish whim. 

Fourth: so because of YW arrogance and confidence about HB’s feelings for him, after thinking for a while, he just breaks up with him in the most painful possible way for HB, and when he finally realizes about the progress in JM and HB relationship, YW finally understand that HB is not a puppy that will wait all his life to get his feelings returned, not HB, he’s a normal guy and one’s life should go on, you can’t possible expect that a person’s love will continue forever and ever without the right nourishment (and even less when he was throw away to be picked up later without even knowing the oh so great plan of YW), that’s not how it works and if YW really thought that HB will be his puppet and will dance to his rhythm he was awfully mistaken and now he has pay the price, what really satisfies me. 

To summarize I can’t like a person that starts an homosexual relationship with an innocent and lonely guy just for fun (YW has mentioned a couple of times that HB is funny and fun to be with), makes him go through rough times with his violent father, then breaks up with him but when someone else show interest in him, he just made up with him as if nothing had happened and expects that all goes just the way he wants until the end without really understanding the pain and sorrow of HB, and actually has the nerve to tell his mother that “I foolishly looked past how much she(he) was hurting”, sorry but he is just a pretty a***ole to me.)

OH MY LORD ANON YOU WROTE A BOOK I RESPECT YOU. okay hold on i’m gonna try and respond to everything i can cause this is really interesting! i’ll answer them in the order of the reasons you listed to make things less messy ^^;; i’m also putting this under a cut cause it’s gonna be SO LONG

1) for me, i think author-nim showed yoo won’s back story to really drive home one thing aside from furthering the plotline/giving insight into his background: it was to show that yoo won was a character with flaws as well. of course, stealing the jar wasn’t a bright idea, and it shouldn’t be something to be waved off because “he was just a kid”. but it showed that yoo won, this person we’ve been seeing as this perfect and beautiful guy everyone admires in the present timeline, also has had his low points. he’s made mistakes and that makes him more human. in terms of his lack of empathy, i put that all on the circumstances he was put through. i mean, this kid was in fifth grade when his so-called first friend beat him up in front of his class, got completely ignored by everyone, and even openly teased by others in front of the teacher without repercussions. his personality drastically changed after that, and i think that made him sort of numb to others around him ever since he started closing himself off from anyone getting too close. and we can’t forget the reason why he’s started to only focus on his mother is because dong rae, the person who completely changed his life, gave him that one piece of advice before leaving: to live for only one thing and bury the rest in your heart. yoo won undoubtedly chose his mother, and has been following dong rae’s mantra all the way into his college years. he isn’t intentionally ignoring how his actions might be affecting others, i just think he’s grown used to not attuning himself to others since he lost his trust in their sincerity because of past issues

2) i can see how this kiss could be controversial since it’s evident that yoo won wasn’t taking this whole “wanna go out” thing seriously, but i still think there was some genuine interest on his part when he went in to kiss hee bum. HONESTLY, i don’t think he’d planned on going as far as kissing him until hee bum asked “but why do you want to date me?”. his internal monologue proved that when he stated that had hee bum not asked that question, he would’ve just been another hoobae yoo won liked to tease. so yeah, although him starting it off as a joke wasn’t really a romantic (or nice) start, i don’t think yoo won did everything for the sole purpose of messing with hee bum, since he has shown a lot of interest in getting closer to hee bum prior to this. 

3) even if eldo’s claims that she was used as a shield were true, in the end i still think she still had the choice of breaking away from that role if she chose to. yes, yoo won might have had asked eldo to hang occasionally because it seemed more natural as a trio, but eldo also decided that she would pretend to get along with hee bum because she wanted to get yoo won’s attention. and in terms of hee bum’s dad (who i hate), i definitely don’t think yoo won was completely blind to the abuse. yoo won mentioned that even when the dad did find out, hee bum didn’t say anything about breaking up because he still wanted to be with yoo won. i can’t put the blame on yoo won for that, that’s all on his dad for being a terrible and abusive person. and don’t forget that yoo won did try to break it off with hee bum at the beginning. hee bum was the one who was completely in denial that they would break up, even chasing yoo won down to the academy to try and get back together. it wasn’t as if yoo won was forcing hee bum to stay in a relationship with him regardless of the abuse he was going through. hee bum was even more adamant on staying together.

4) this one confused me a bit because hee bum was the one who broke it off with yoo won, not the other way around. but you’re right that yoo won getting dumped was when he realized that hee bum wouldn’t be waiting around for him in the back, constantly giving him love. i think that realization is an important starting point for yoo won to address that he’s really closed himself off too much from others, even hee bum, while trying to prioritize his mother’s health and happiness. for me, i saw it as a precursor for yoo won to really develop in terms of how he treats others and putting the whole “throw away everything but one single thing” idea into a new perspective. i don’t particularly think yoo won is a bad person for this, though. just a pitiful person. he grew up believing he couldn’t really rely on anyone and followed the last advice given from a major significant figure in his childhood, and that led to the distant and whimsical way he was treating his relationship with hee bum.

5) but while it might have started off as a joke, like yoo won said, they did seem to develop to the point where both of them were equally committed to the relationship. i don’t think hee bum was forced into it, since he has the personality and nature to easily rebuff and back away from something he doesn’t like. i definitely don’t think yoo won made hee bum go through his father’s abuse. it’s not like yoo won told hee bum’s dad to hit hee bum for being in a relationship with him. even still, hee bum kept pushing to pursue the relationship even after yoo won broke up with him. for the last subpoint, i do think this only happens because of miscommunication on both ends. yoo won had the belief that hee bum would always be there for him and so he didn’t put much effort in maintaining that relationship because of it. but hee bum also never really voiced his concerns to yoo won. all those things about “feeling like he loved yoo won more than yoo won loved him” and being upset about it - these were all things he told jumi, not yoo won. i think yoo won was oblivious to just how much it was bothering hee bum because he never even mentioned it around him, which is why he kept thinking that hee bum was still in love with him and that everything was perfectly fine. that’s why i think they both need to talk to each other, fully and openly, so that these issues stop driving them apart.
